You realize this isn't enforceable, if you decide to make a general you have to be open to all subjects relating to that topic. You are not a moderator.

Dude i literally just remembed my love for lego and wanted to see some community and discuss mocs and shit and i come to /toy/ and THIS is what i see. IT'S THREADS ABOUT PLASTIC TOYS NIGGERS. Can we get some civilised conversation and share our hobby?
>>
>>11707563
In what way are upcoming Lego sets off-topic in the Lego thread?
>>
>>11707617
There’s less esl spam than /dbg/ and /shf/, but thats about the only positive here, and yet here is a better lego discussion area than anywhere else on the internet. Sad.
>>
>>11707627
I’m asking genuinely, and I’m not the supposed frog you fucking schizo.
Intuitively, it seems to me that “news” about upcoming Lego sets is practically by definition on-topic vis a vis a Lego thread. How is it not?

Rules exist for a reason, thats why we use the toilet around here, cleaning up the septic of all the posts with only “New #### When?” as a usual crossline in between them and seeing all the posts that disappear in an actual wipe, and how the one “providing” them does it to mainly stir up shit. Simply put, nobody’s playing your game anymore.

Yes it is. The OP determines what on topic is. Posting off topic is against the rules. This is very obvious.

>the lost themes
>medieval
Why does everyone seem to love castle/medieval lego themes? Isn't there enough of it already?
>>
>>11707642
Ok, so that doesn’t answer my question. I’ll assume you concede that Lego “leaks” are in fact relevant to the discussion of Lego (again this seems practically tautological).
So my next question is, with respect to the rulefriending, why ought there be a prohibition on posting leaks? Is there any actual utility to the rule, or is it just one sperg enforcing this as a matter of personal preference?
>>
>>11707663
Because in the days of classic LEGO castle themes and sets, LEGO was actually putting out original intellectual property and not just creating building sets from movies and popular culture. They were actually original and fun.
>>
>>11707664
It’s off topic, advertising AND spam technically.
>>
>>11707668
you can’t seem to describe how it’s off-topic, so until I’m corrected, I’m going to go with my intuition that discussion of Lego is in fact on topic in a Lego thread.
I don’t see how it’s advertising either. Is posting a newly released set also advertising? Is posting lego bricks advertising? Is the very existence of a thread (or board, for that matter) dedicated to consumer products advertising?
And how is it spam?

Its simply put spam, he COULD do a concession and just upload them all into one site link and just post that once or twice per thread, but NO, he MUST flood the thread with shit nobody replies to like he was promised this general 3000 year ago. >>
>>11707664
>I assume you concede
No. Not when the OP clearly dictates what is on topic in the OP. Literally no one cares about an upcoming movie license no one is going to watch. No one cares about a license for a musician no one has heard of. You pretend you don’t know what we are talking about. You pretend not to notice leaks of set numbers and prices but nothing else.
>Guys serial number 19476-829$3)-37839292! Is going to be $4999 who else is HYPE!????!!???!
This shit is empty posting. It’s advertising. It’s spam. It’s off topic. No one wants to read this. No one wants this.
>>
>>11707678
I’ll concede the obvious samefriending with low-effort posts (“very cool” or “exciting!” or whatever else) to bump his threads is annoying and bordering on spam. My question is about the posting of leaks themselves.

All you retards have said is, effectively, “it’s off topic because the OP says it’s off-topic.” I’ll give you credit inasmuch as this isn’t literally a circular argument, but I’m asking for more of an explanation. If a non-frogposter posted a leaked set (the otter or whatever), that would be considered off-topic? How?

That’s how a thread works. The OP is literally the topic. Deviation from the OP is off topic.

The Loch Ness monster is awesome. I really wish a third party manufacturer or stl site would recreate it as it exists in that image

I don’t understand. I said, “how is X off-topic?” and your reply was “liberals can’t do pattern recognition.” How is that responsive to my post?
Also you retards need to do either more or less Noticing, because you’re getting an awful lot of false positives with your current frog identification process.
>>
>>11707737
So, again, if an image of a hot new set leaked (say the Ganon final battle or whatever), and I posted the image, that would be considered off-topic?

Lego Prototype stuff is so interesting.

It's so strange to me that Lego went balls in 80s and 90s nostalgia with licensed properties or have done some licensed properties for so long like Harry Potter and SW that they wrapped around and became nostalgia properties. They do their own nostalgia with remakes of 80s and 90s sets and minifigs but they will probably NEVER make any thing actually look and feel like classic Lego playsets (I.e. toys) ever again. Not even out of nostalgia. No one even does it I LEGO ideas either they're always gigantic MOC type things.

I remember in the early 2000s they rereleased some black falcon sets and I got a black falcon inn and thought it was the coolest shit ever. They even accidentally gave everyone one of those cool indian western horses and sent a free regular horse with it.

Mostly agreed. They are remaking Playsets now. They are just GWPs. Which is annoying in and of itself. These should be on store shelves for 20-30 dollars. But you have to spend 150 dollars or buy from a reseller.

lol with the blurry pic

this made me think to do a bunch of posts, for a MOC, that mimic'd the official leaks but I'm too lazy to make any, but just in case I feel like doing it later, let me see if I can get the official leak pattern down:
step:
1 - theme code-name, Summer 20XX
(color text over blur screen)
2 - theme reveal, number of sets
(color text over blurred image of the theme)
3 - set numbers with part counts, maybe list of minifigs?
(more color text over a blur screen of brick-ish builds)
4 - super-duper blurry image, ridiculous blur
5 - crispy close-up view of a minifig part on a corporate wooden desk
6 - somewhat clear-er picture of the set, with a watermark stamp over the whole thing (I forgot what the stamp says, you know the stamp, right?)
7 - finally the good picture of the set!
8 - picture of the set in diversity caveman's loft apartment

did I skip any steps? I feel like there's more steps...

yeah, that's a lot of work for a joke that would probably be... not worth the effort

Heres a modular lil beach village I made last summer. Its a taffy shop with a rooftop bar, a surf shop, and a lifeguard tower.

Theres 3 interchangeable beachfronts for the 2 shops that can be attached in the front or back of each shop, a sandy beach, a tide pool, and a dock. There's also a boat ramp that can be clicked onto the side for the lime green beach Jeep and boat trailer.

TRVE Technic™ enjoyers do spend time to align the pins
>>
>>11708930
Holy based.
Also, do you guys hide your sprue marks (or injection marks or whatever they are, I know the pieces don’t come off sprues) when possible?
It disgusts me when this or that Lego Youtooober places their plates with the marks out (and when they put no care in aligning, say, 1x1 items, such that they’re not sat at a perfect right angle)
>>
>>11708935
I always do my best to hide injection marks and also do align pins and other non-design features of pieces. I'm grateful I don't also have the thing where you have to align the lego logo on the studs.
>>
>>
>>11708935
Yeah, I make sure they face the bottom or the inside of the vehicle
If they have to be visible then I try to have some sort of symmetry

Lego DND was such a waste

The gimmick is fucking redundant. Nobody cares if they can't make their OCs, and there's barely any trademarked DND races. Who wants a minfig of *generic elf twink that can be turned into a tomboy* or *dwarf but black, because fantasy creatures have to have human races*?

it's literally impossible for any new Star Wars movie to "flop"

no matter how awful it is.

enough people will buy tickets to "check it out" due to loyalty, nostalgia, curiosity, hurhur ironically, pick any reason, it will sell a ticket

Rise of Skywalker was the most garbage piece of trash you could think of. almost every story beat was worse than the one before it. a true lesson in terrible-ness. it's an embarrassment to the very nature of movie making. but... it STILL made a zillion dollars.
>>
>>11709547
The Han Solo movie bombed incredibly hard so it wouldn't be the first. The marketing for this has been abysmal and the general reception appears to be negative. The movie doesn't even have Star Wars in the name, no one even knows what a Grogu is, they just know Baby Yoda.
They will need either a miracle or a masterpiece of a movie to make this not flop.
>>
>>11709547
tros got fucked with because disney needed it to make a billion, even if just to appease their shareholders
i 100% believe they cooked the numbers on it
>>
>>11709579
>The marketing for this has been abysmal
advertising is the most expensive part of making a movie. they are just saving bucks right now. the movie doesn't come out until May (I think? heh, I guess I don't know, maybe they need to advertise that?)

>the general reception appears to be negative.
based on one Superbowl Ad. they tried to be cute and spoof a Budweiser commercial. (Beer! hey I thought it was cool they did a beer ad) nobody had any idea Star Wars could do a spoof-y thing, so that was very unclear and confusing

>They will need either a miracle or a masterpiece of a movie to make this not flop.
nope. they just need every fan or person who's familiar with Star Wars to buy 1 ticket each. maybe take their girlfriend (heh) which she will roll her eyes at. that other fan is taking his two kids. it's a scale of numbers. if a million people give you each a dollar, you have a million dollars. $10 tickets, 100 million people = 1 billion.

You severely underestimate the power of apathy retard-kun. People are more likely gonna watch the low budget film in theatres than the s4 tunicated shitshow or any other slag that yidsneed is putting out with shart wars. yeah, I'll give you that. if the movie is BAD then it will halt some of the fans. but my point was more like... there are SO MANY blind sloppity-slop-slurping fans, that it wouldn't matter.

it's only $10, might as well go see for yourself (is the logic behind the low-risk multiplier to the profits)

it's almost charity at this point. like a bum on the street. awww... my poor Star Wars I used to like. here's ten bucks, I hope you get back on your feet...

Nobody is going to watch it and it will be a massive flop, as per usual.

I do not usually post in this general, but does anyone have any information about new Lego Toy Story sets? Are we going to get sets for the fifth movie?

I collect a lot of Pixar items, so I am very curious. Toy Story is my favorite movie of all time. I bought the sets from the fourth film and also last year’s celebration set.

Thank you.
>>
>>11709808
Only 3 sets are known right now:
>43301- 18+ Toy Story: Slinky Dog Book Nook - 1311 pcs - $150
>43304 - 4+ Toy Story: Wild West -$50
>43306 - 9+ Toy Story: Lotso Cuddly Bear - $40

There are 2 sets that are unknown if they are Disney Princess or Classic Disney:
>43302
And
>40857

The rest are sets based on different Disney IPs because all are under Disney theme now. It's possible those 2 sets are either Toy Story or Moana.

What do you think was the most inventive and unique theme that you've ever had the experience of building and or playing with?

I think it was insectoids for me. It had a great mix of futuristicness, set complexity, high-tech themes, and the overall basis that it was robot insects was pretty cool. Plus, a lot of the sets had electronic light-up functions.

Oh I see what you’re saying. You’re doing an iteration in the “thing < thing but japan” formula. >this actually is so much better than the lego pikachu
I wonder how many people will regret not buying the Mega Bloks Pokemon sets?

I wonder at what point does it cease to matter, if the bricks have little Lego logos on them, or not?

Lego, themselves, have proven that you CAN have a "different figure" other than "THE MINIFIG" and succeed (Friends created the Minidoll) and big-thing-with-bricks can be done by anybody. Lego is flat-out showing the other companies what to do. (keep an eye on Brickcraft? they seem to be gaining ground)

the main, glaring, obvious complaint about Lego? price. that's the only thing the competitors need to beat Lego with.

>>
>>11711358
Thats not what a good deal means. Thats you having an unreasonable fondness. Me paying 10 dollars for a piece of taffy because its from the boardwalk I went to as a kid with my grandma doesn't make a piece of taffy being 10 dollars a good deal. That makes me blinded by bias.

Lego has lots of white and black bricks in many shapes and sizes. you might already own lots of those, if you've been steadily collecting Lego sets over many years
>>
>>11711258
>“Thing but lego” now refers to fictional characters and settings? I thought “thing but Lego” was supposed to describe mundane physical objects (phones, typewriters, rollerskates, and so on)
It's more the lack of compatibility with anything else and lack of play value (ie statueshit) is the main criticism behind it. Minifig scale sets are all compatible with eachother, even if it makes no sense like Luke's Landspeeder next to a castle, because the minifig is the common reference point for both. This is conducive to play. So for example the UCS Landspeeder is boring because I can't put characters in it and put it in some place. It's just a shape made of Lego. I'm not a fan of the Mario sets and they aren't minifig scale, but they do still offer a system in which they work together.
The Snoopy set does have movable characters plus a location which is a step above the rest, but I doubt they're all that playable. I mean it looks like you have to actually rebuild Snoopy to change his pose.
This set is a one-off and offers nothing to expand on any of my other sets/MOCs. It has low value as a parts pack because it seems to be a bunch of specific rounded parts that I wouldn't find a use for.
At least a Lego City set of a car or building is useful because it either gives me a car or building to add to my displays, or it gives me parts I can use to make my own car or building. But unless I specifically want to build a building with a white dome, Snoopy offers me very little.

Is there some kind of deal particle we can objectively measure? And is this particle just absent by nature in building block dogs/doghouses?

>unless I specifically want to build a building with a white dome, Snoopy offers me very little.
this is exactly why the set needed a minifig Snoopy with a tiny molded Woodstock to stand next to it. then, you could make other Lego sets for them to interact with

I’m mostly playing devil’s advocate. I don’t care at all about snoopy or peanuts. But $90 for a licensed set with ~950 pieces doesn’t seem like a “bad deal.” It doesn’t seem like a good deal either, it just seems pretty typical.

It's my favorite theme. I understand why space post the cassic smilely era isn't as looked back upon with the same love as the late 80s and early 90s themes but I really love the pulp aesthetic of UFO and Insectoids. Sets felt so much more complete before conflict in a box became mandatory.

>nobody had any idea Star Wars could do a spoof-y thing, so that was very unclear and confusing

Only because Kennedy has been vehemently anti-spoof wars with Lego Star Wars specials being the sole exception. No more Star Wars dance parties in the parks, no more Jedi Mickey or Darth Mater, Detours was shoved deep into the Disney Vault next to Song of the South, that Pigs in Space YouTube revival wasn't allowed to release some Star Wars based sketches, and Wreck-It Ralph 2 was banned from making jokes about Kylo Ren in its Disney circlejerk sequence.

I loved the Lego soccer sets as a kid, really miss them. I always wanted the big stadium add-on things but never had them, just the field and the team bus. And yes, I used the gimmick.
