it's because that whole challenge backfired so spectacularly, that they didn't do it again. no more "winning team gets their winning build as a set!" how hard would it have been to make a giant cool spaceship? unique, imaginative shape? some cool color scheme? maybe a colorful planet under it? A neat name for it? something like that would have sold zillions of copies and become an inspirational legend.

Lego ideas nowadays is pretty lame, you're not voting on that particular otter build, you are voting on the "idea" of a lego otter in some form or another. Of course that's just how TLG justifies changing the design so radically every time.

If you want to actually get the design you're voting for, the Bricklink Designer Program is much better. BLDP sets have very minimal changes from what you're voting on vs what you're actually buying, the only downside is that there's no new minifigures and the instructions are digital.

So what's the etiquette on Brick Links. I bought my first thing late on Christmas day, seller sent it promptly enough ut I haven't opened it and I got annoyed with the site because I couldn't buy from some sites or message others because I was "new." I made two orders of sets and MFs and noticed I had praise and assumed it was the Christmas guy, but he didn't even say 'payment went through' or the typical BS sellers on eBay post. I realized I hadn't left him any so I literally just did that even though his box is still taped up under some other holiday boxes, and for all I know it's full of uncooked pasta.

I have two third party lego stores in my area but not an official one. One is a Bricks and Minifigs and one is a small time store. The small time store has a much better selection with better staff, but is in a crappy building. The bricks and minifigures is a nice building, everything is laid out so their large inventory looks small. It felt empty even though more people were there. I also thought the staff was odd. they were imitating employees at The Lego Group Stores are, but they clearly were not doing a great job. It was like uncanny valley creepiness. Smiling without the any effect on the eyes.

I'm sure this has already been discussed, but does Lego not have the license for audio from star wars? I was watching a video demonstration for the tie fighter and it doesn't make the iconic noise at all

Yeah it kinda sucks (if that is how all this works) but I guess it's simpler this way, and kinda cheaper if you can just buy one or two expensive sets with smart bricks and then it works with all the compatible sets (Star Wars, pokemon, future lines) Maybe Lego also thinks kids won't care about authentic sounds and just be happy that it lights up and makes cool noises when they swish things around.

I didn't see this or I would have posted the Spyrius robot to you. I used to have a keychain and carried him around with me everyone. 2nd would be Ice Planet captain. Technic guys were fucking awesome and I loved my Green Majisto you could make with a Timmy Freestyle hat and forestmen parts.

I do still like new minifigs but nostalgia makes those my favourites.
