Nah it's a hodgepodge, like look at Ironhide. Color scheme kind of a mix between his G1 colors and the grey draped over it which is close but not quite black like his Bayformer counterpart. His vehicle mode closely resembles his Bayformer version but with an extended rear end and his head design is basically Energon Ironhide but wearing a different helmet. His personality is also closer to Energon Ironhide only by going off on his partner 'Jones' and the only 'Jones' out there in Transformers is Kicker Jones.

They definitely take minor design inspiration from Blackout, with the rotor sitting at his back like a cape. As for Ironhide, having his vehicle mode as a pickup truck, and the pickup truck's front splits to form his shoulders.

Let's not go in that extreme, SS86 has a lot of great original molds, and only 2 shitty ones (Steeljaw and Astrotain). It's lack of consistency is what made it bad, especially the lazy reuses of WFC and Legacy molds degrading S86's aesthetic style (or lack thereof).
Starscream and Cliffjumper can be forgiven since they'll get new molds this year
Springer and Shockwave had some necessary retooling done to them, so there at least there was an attempt made
Blaster, Eject, Ratbat, and Hound were already good enough
Sunstreaker and Wheeljack the offensive reuses, with no attempts to make them look better
Expect a HasLab Unicron made-to-order repaint, let's see how well that will go...

I worked real fucking hard on this for a real long time for it to look this shitty once photographed. Why so blurry? Why am I seeing streaks now I never saw before? whatever.
The camera is also really not capturing how vibrant the clear-indigo-over-silver is, but it's fucking nice in person. I've wanted to do this one forever, it was just hard to get clear cool-gray paint.
Weirdly, it obliterated the stripes on his tiger thighs, and ONLY those stripes. How could those be a different kind of paint than the rest?

the camo pattern on his robot head is unintentional and I have no idea how that happened, but.. sure, let's go with camo pattern. I might just go back over the gray

I redid some details on the blue and yellow tigers too, so here they all are. I didn't feel like transforming them, and then takara and mutant tigatron, to get the full tigerarray, too tired.

yeah, instead of silver, I actually put the clear indigo over gunmetal.
next time I want to achieve this look, I'll stick with silver as the base. I didn't realize how dark it would end up, mixing ultramarine blue with a bit of pink. Clear paint is a real... testy load. It's testy, I tells ya.
But I at least tried to cover every exposed white surface this time.

Okay, ideas, ideas... When we get the Studio Series 86/Comic Starscream 2.0 at some point between this year and the next, do you think they will give us a new version of the Coronation set with the same chair? As I heard none of the old Coronation parts, not even the shoulders and crown, could fit the SS86 Seeker mold, the Coronation parts need to be an entirely new mold to fit.

Anyway, the biggest issues you seem to have here is that you're A) not using a primer first and are just slathering your paint onto him until it sticks (creating those streaks you couldn't see before, because the paint is applying and drying unevenly), and B) you're painting with glosses instead of mattes, hence why all of your stuff looks slimy even when it's not.

Just pointing out why everything looks goopy and streaky - while I get that you want to keep the original stripes, that's just not how it works. Generally speaking, you'd put down a primer, paint over it with matte, then manually redraw the stripes before covering them in a sealant, otherwise it's always going to look like they took a goo bath, especially when you photograph them.

The only real excuse I can give Siege is the whole idea of Cybertronian alt modes for many of the G1 cast. We just didn't get Bumblebee, Wheeljack and Jazz back then because they want to wait until Legacy to make designs more faithful to the first episode (though the Siege Tetraseekers... Hard to argue why they can't have sharp nosecones without third-party kits). The rest are fine, but they're more worth it for the weapons.

I haven't gotten SS Megs because of his colors, and I haven't opened SS Soundwave yet, so I'm seriously considering saying fuck this scale revisionism and returning SS Soundwave and sticking with what I have. Pic semi related. My Megs is the 35th deco which I adore, and I have the clean Soundwave, but overall I'm happy with how these scale. I do like the new Seeker mold, and it looks to be the same size, so I still planning on getting those for the main trio and inevitable coneheads (which I have no version of because I hated the Earthrise Seeker mold). I do still love the Seige Seekers though, so my Rainmakers and other repaints will continue to populate my Decepticon army.
