>>220463974 It's all based on Disney stuff, not the actual original folk tales. The filter of Disney is what turns it into a sanitized bureaucratic mess, and that is why Shrek stands out, he actually does act like the ogre he's supposed to be.
So it actually makes perfect sense for them to see Europe as a foreign place, because they're American fairy-tales now, saccharine and lacking the original historicity and character, but brighter and more aggressive in their roles because of the cultural vigor that suffuses them.
>>220468634 That's because America has bears and mountain lions and shit like that. There's basically zero threatening wildlife in Europe, because the Europeans killed and ate them all.
>>220469104 >There's basically zero threatening wildlife in Europe, because the Europeans killed and ate them all. Then why do my family in EU5 keep getting killed by wild animals. They're in fucking Constantinople where are they running into these beasts that their bodyguards somehow can't take care of
>>220468634 >muh spoopy cryptids I’d fight a skinwalker barehanded before I even got within spitting distance of fey fuckery. Cryptids in stories are at least straightforward: they want to kill you, eat you, or maybe just fuck with you. Fey would do all of that and worse as an either a lighthearted prank or because they decided the way you wiped your ass on the second Thursday of the month was an insult according to one of their rules.
Fae can be evil. Native European folklore has plenty of negative entities, vampire accounts, witches, dragons and other things that can kill you, even childsnatching creatures. It's not that impressive on paper but I've had a weird experience in Scotland myself.
>European cryptids >Awww it's so cute and whimsical >Promptly tricks you, humiliates and sexually assaults you and transforms you into a hideous freak or kills you
