>>220464632 Truly. Arakawa did an temu EoE, hatecrimed our short king by making him grow before he could get with Winry, and then offhandedly wrote herself a plot element with greeling (tho he’s based) and alkahestry that makes the scope of the story feel smaller, the events irrelevant globally.
>>220464578 I always played the comedy down when reading it. Manga/Brotherhood is kino for being intensely occult with a perfect ending. 2003 is kino for Bratja, superb animation, and the emotional melodrama if you let yourself enjoy it
>>220465393 >well it actually represents the authors real vision Not necessarily true. She could’ve just been miffed the anime staff guessed at some of the plot, and / or unconsciously distanced her writing from objects that near 03 as she wrote.
>>220465609 03 had a better ending for the occult aesthetics, philosophical underpinning. Brotherhood had a good battle shounen end if you liked it for that kind of thing.
>>220465393 No sane person believes the military commander was supposed to be Wrath, tranny. >I'm Wrath because... I never get angry. Makes perfect fucking sense.
For some reason this stupid show became complete shit when they had to turn back towards the town and save it. It was like the author decided that they couldn't think of a proper story and immediately decided to end it with the last arc.
>>220464578 The humor really does just fucking ruin this show. I love everything else but every time they do that obnoxious anime humor, it immediately takes me out of it.
>>220465637 Nah, the whole series is full of redpills and he gets the 1488 ending with the girl next door. The whole story is a 'chop wood, carry water' for enlightenment, right up to subduing the 7 sins. It also contains Arakawa's study on the 'messiah' bloodline and her name is a direct reference to Araki- who posits his own theories via the Joestars. It's not a coincidence that their names are next to each other on a bookshelf.
Roy killing envy in Brotherhood is a high point of all anime, as is Ed crashing through the gate after seeing Al's real body. Roy killing Pride in 03 is also great. Conclusion: Roy Mustang is the best part of FMA.
>>220464578 Yeah the original anime has it's flaws, mainly that it goes into some weird shit at the end because the anime finished before the manga did. There's a dragon for some reason? It's befuddled but well presented. Although the story is better and less ambiguous in Brotherhood, it goes heavy with the cringe anime moments. This is a problem with many animes, they don't seem to understand tone. One minute we're watching this grim tale about two children who were mutilated in an attempt to resurrect their dead mother investigating a conspiracy that involves sacrificing the entire population of a country to create a powerful magic rock , the next we're watching a Saturday morning cartoon with bugs bunny hitting other characters over the head with a mallet. It's jarring, it's something you get used to if you watch a lot of anime but I've never liked it. FMA 2003, better tone FMA: B, better ending
