Was this as bad as people say? Or is it just memed here? Did people hate the movie because the lead was a rapper?

Yeah it sucks. I didn't know Jamie Kennedy was a rapper outside of Malibu's Most Wanted.
>>

>Did people hate the movie because the lead was a rapper?
Yes, chuddies hate that. And they're doing it again!
BAKA

>>220465750
It's extremely bad. I mean, the very idea of the film is baffling like "why would anyone make this or give money for this to be made?" And the execution of this this terrible idea is even worse
The ONLY good thing to come from it are the memes

Watch this anon, it's worse than you can imagine
Though, it can be said it's ludokino
>>
I watched this a lot as a kid and I’ve never seen the Jim Carrey one
>>
>>220465944
Oh, it's just propaganda.
>>
>>220465750
It's pretty much the "she stops being ugly after a couple of drinks" of movies.
>>
>>220465750
Film isn't just bad, it's also HIDEOUS.
>>
I remember my father taking me to see this in theaters, but I didn't want to go because even as a child I knew it was shit.
>>
>>220465944
Only good part of this entire abomination of a scene is the cars at the end dancing. Kind of funny.
>>

What did your dad think of it? My dad got mad at my movie choice once and screamed at me on the way home
>>
>this is the part where you boogie

Bros, is maskposting... back?
>>
Do you think the actor realized how fucking shit it was 1 week into filming the movie or was he unaware the entire time and thought it was good?
>>
>>220466058
He knew it was shit too, but he thought I wanted to see it because I liked the first one.
>>
>>220466020
This was in theaters? I can't believe that

It cost 90 million dollars to make.

I wish I had your awareness as a kid, cause I bought this movie and watched it all the time with my cousins because I liked The Mask so much.

Hahahah what
>>

I never actually watched this scene until now.
God fucking damn that was embarrassing.
>>
>>220466119
That's absolutely outrageous. I know Jamie Kennedy was paid 5 million for it

>>
>>220465750
i remember seeing it as a kid and thinking it was terrible.
of course the first movie is really boring overall on a rewatch. i'd like to see a more thriller/adult oriented faithful take of the source material
>>
>>220465750
What the fuck is with Jamie Kennedy's acting in this? Why is he talking like that? Why does it feel like some weird ventriloquist act?

At least Traylor Howard is cute in everything...
>>
>>220466247
The first one is entertaining

>mom and stepdad tell me it's going to be a movie night and not to tell my siblings
>idk why they told ME
>rare in that period of my life when it came to that side of my family
>sitting and eating before we go and my sister is being a little shit
>tell her she's going to have to stay home
>she ramps into questions about "where are we going" and becomes even more of a little shit
>i catch trouble for that
>on the way there they announce we're not getting ANY snacks or drinks, there's a water fountain and we just ate
>all of us kids reeee
>get shit for that
>get to the theatre
>sit down and like 2 mins later a whole birthday party of 10 year old boys sits down
>my stepdad looks like he's about to rip the skin off his forehead he's gripping it so tightly
>movie starts
>plays out with many a noise and disturbance from the boys in front of us
>at one point my youngest step sibling cries and says she doesn't like the movie
>during the end musical sequence all the boys in the birthday party go wild with exaggerated hype over the dated music and dancing characters
>we swiftly leave
>stepdad never joins us in going to a movie again
>movie was pic related
>>
>>220466257
the first time, yeah, but then the mask bits are less novel on rewatch and the rest of the movie is a bit plodding other than diaz being a smokeshow and carrey doing a great job of playing the hapless yet functional manchild
>>
>>220466356
Did you ever play the snes game?

for a while i thought i played a genesis game but it turns out I was actually having old, hazy, mixed together memories of dynamite headdy and boogerman

I totally forgot about that game
>>

Funny since a part of the plot is about the unconditional love between a child and his father

I dunno, it seems so embarrassing. I can't imagine anyone was laughing, I wonder if anyone got up and left.

I only know this film because it aired on cartoon network so many times in the mid 2000s.

This sound design and dialogue sounds like early some 2000s top-down RPG/point and click shit

What does a baby with the mask on do?

It's the only part of the movie I find kind of amusing. He turns into a Looney Toons character, and the dog (who is jealous of the new baby) also somehow gets the mask and the two fight each other all ACME cartoony like with bombs and anvils and shit since the dog (with mask powers) wants to kill him. It's not done well, but that's what is going on. Like a really bad episode of Tom and Jerry or something.
>>
>>220465944
This scene is kino but the rest of the movie is just boring unfortunately. No wonder it's the only part people remember.
>>
>>220465960
Anon... you're a victim of child abuse
>>
>>220468460
It's not the baby that wears the mask. The baby was conceived by the Jamie K. character while he was wearing the mask.

>>
>>220466020
I went to see it with my dad and brothers, we all thought it was hilarious. At the time every liquor/grocery store in the area had a Mexican guy with a big binder full of movie camrips burnt onto dvds and my dad immediately bought a copy of son of the mask. we went home and watched it again. Not even lying when I say it is a really fond childhood memory.

This movie is truly something, not saying its good, but definitely worth a watch just for the experience alone

>>
Family friendly cashgrab sequel with nothing that made the original good. Of course it is bad.
>>
>>220465750
I actually watched this god forsaken cash grab when it was released. In short: yes it was that bad.
>wife is barely even acting
>Jamie Kennedy's retarded unnatural "duuurrr" facial expressions
>hey here's a line from the first one remember that lolol
>CGI is somehow worse than the 90s
>not a single funny or memorable scene
Jim Carrey WAS the mask. The character was changed entirely from the comic version to specifically for Carrey's acting demeanor. It doesn't work otherwise.
