>>220465750 It's extremely bad. I mean, the very idea of the film is baffling like "why would anyone make this or give money for this to be made?" And the execution of this this terrible idea is even worse The ONLY good thing to come from it are the memes
>>220466020 >I remember my father taking me to see this in theaters, but I didn't want to go because even as a child I knew it was shit. I wish I had your awareness as a kid, cause I bought this movie and watched it all the time with my cousins because I liked The Mask so much.
>>220465750 i remember seeing it as a kid and thinking it was terrible. of course the first movie is really boring overall on a rewatch. i'd like to see a more thriller/adult oriented faithful take of the source material
>>220466058 >mom and stepdad tell me it's going to be a movie night and not to tell my siblings >idk why they told ME >rare in that period of my life when it came to that side of my family >sitting and eating before we go and my sister is being a little shit >tell her she's going to have to stay home >she ramps into questions about "where are we going" and becomes even more of a little shit >i catch trouble for that >on the way there they announce we're not getting ANY snacks or drinks, there's a water fountain and we just ate >all of us kids reeee >get shit for that >get to the theatre >sit down and like 2 mins later a whole birthday party of 10 year old boys sits down >my stepdad looks like he's about to rip the skin off his forehead he's gripping it so tightly >movie starts >plays out with many a noise and disturbance from the boys in front of us >at one point my youngest step sibling cries and says she doesn't like the movie >during the end musical sequence all the boys in the birthday party go wild with exaggerated hype over the dated music and dancing characters >we swiftly leave >stepdad never joins us in going to a movie again >movie was pic related
>>220466257 the first time, yeah, but then the mask bits are less novel on rewatch and the rest of the movie is a bit plodding other than diaz being a smokeshow and carrey doing a great job of playing the hapless yet functional manchild
>>220466367 for a while i thought i played a genesis game but it turns out I was actually having old, hazy, mixed together memories of dynamite headdy and boogerman
>>220468460 It's the only part of the movie I find kind of amusing. He turns into a Looney Toons character, and the dog (who is jealous of the new baby) also somehow gets the mask and the two fight each other all ACME cartoony like with bombs and anvils and shit since the dog (with mask powers) wants to kill him. It's not done well, but that's what is going on. Like a really bad episode of Tom and Jerry or something.
>>220466020 I went to see it with my dad and brothers, we all thought it was hilarious. At the time every liquor/grocery store in the area had a Mexican guy with a big binder full of movie camrips burnt onto dvds and my dad immediately bought a copy of son of the mask. we went home and watched it again. Not even lying when I say it is a really fond childhood memory.
>>220465750 I actually watched this god forsaken cash grab when it was released. In short: yes it was that bad. >wife is barely even acting >Jamie Kennedy's retarded unnatural "duuurrr" facial expressions >hey here's a line from the first one remember that lolol >CGI is somehow worse than the 90s >not a single funny or memorable scene Jim Carrey WAS the mask. The character was changed entirely from the comic version to specifically for Carrey's acting demeanor. It doesn't work otherwise.
