It's that time of the year, where we download an irresponsible amount of demos
Explore upcoming releases, discuss/rate what you try, wishlist the games you like, give some recommendations, and most importantly: Havefun.

Armoured core but it's sort of a rogue-lite. The way it lets you opt in to extracting sort of makes it feel like an extraction game, there's even an option to lose your shit when you die (you can't change it though for some reason so I didn't enable it). Feels like there's too little breathing room between encounters, enemies just constantly spawn aggro'd to you so you can't really pause for a moment, so pacing's a bit weird.
It's okay I guess, I'll try and sink my teeth a bit more into it later. Might be worth a try if you like mecha games

For anyone struggling to get diamond ranks in the cicadamata demo, do not treat it like it's 100% Neon White or Ultrakill and you'll have a better time with it. Changing your focus from speedrunning efficiency to score attack makes a big difference

I kept seeing posts talking about how some demos would get removed by the time the steam next fest ends. Do the files get deleted automatically from your computer, or does the game just become inaccessible from your steam library? (and you keep the local files)
If it's the latter then probably getting a Goldberg steam_api.ini file (or steam_api64) and replacing the original with the cracked one should allow you to keep playing the demos, right?

Fun little game. Admittedly there are some things I'd prefer gameplay wise, like being able to choose which character goes first, or being able to push enemies around more to make more use of line attacks. The devs said the demo is on easy mode so the full game should be harder, but personally I'm already sold on the character dynamics and detailed spritework. There are some translation issues that I hope get ironed out. It's very much an anime game, or perhaps more appropriately for the continent, a webtoon game. Fair warning if you don't enjoy watching cutscenes, or trying to make sure you click through the dialogue boxes without skipping any animation. One of the first things I looked for in the options was an autoplay option.

Yeah it's pretty charming. Surprisingly high production value with all the sprite animations and full voice acting, I don't usually care for korean VAs but the performances weren't bad at all. Would've liked a bit of exploration but the demo was already long enough as it was, I can imagine the devs deciding to just leave it out and get straight to combat.
But I found Charlotte's kit to be kind of awkward to use. For someone with a massive zweihander she can't really do much with it unless she's in her defensive stance. Maybe that's just from me not being familiar enough with SRPGs to intuit how to use her. I like her design though, she has nice boobs.

Vultures was ok. The weirdest thing about it is that I dunno why your underground organization of badasses can't afford to send you out with more than a plinker with 10 spare rounds and you have to scrounge for loose ammo. Trying to get that resident evil vibe but you're not one person trapped in a surprise incident so of course you didn't bring your bugout bag and ammo can.

Don’t waste your time with this demo. The animations are amazing, backgrounds are gorgeous and detailed, the moveset is literally copied straight from DuckTales on NES and… that’s about it. The character design, especially for enemies, is straight-up ugly. The camera is so far out you can’t even appreciate the art (I played on a 55" TV), and there’s zero reason for it since the character moves at a snail’s pace. Level design is pure yawn fuel. The story just tries way too hard to be dark and depressing. Didn’t get far, but judging from the comments, the dialogue is insanely long-winded and boring. Dropped it after 30 minutes of a 90-minute demo.
Bonus: the MC’s wearing a kippah and the mom’s VA sounds kinda trans.

I think it’s great when a game has high-quality art, but man, it’d be even better if that kind of talent worked under a competent director. And with some more wholesome themes, imagine a Kirby game drawn like this. I made it to that part with the gross worm things popping up and down, and they just look nasty. I bet later on the whole thing dives straight into body horror.

>>

There's wuxia (somewhat grounded martial arts) and xianxia (cultivation, immortals etc)
The former is a lot more common and all these games fall into that category. Xianxia doesn't even have a Steam tag.
>>
>>733990712
Those games deep in Wuxia flavor are near-untranslatable. Also JinYong's Wuxia universe and even Water Margin have sensitive context under the current CCP.
They could do mythical themes like Wukong or Xianxia shit instead but those are interchangeable with any made-up setting.

Alright I tried the other game you could get for free when finishing the demo as well. Didn't have enough travel resources to enter the boss room anymore, so I just lost the first run. Tried it two more times but got so bad RNG rooms and don't want to play another hour to get all the skills back and stuff. Yeah I won't bother anymore.
It was an alright tactical turn-based game but I don't like the artstyle that much. It's hard to distinguish between your characters and different enemy types. Everything looks too samey

You collect blood points after finishing a stage and need 400 to enter a boss room. I'm not sure what happens after that or if that is the end of it because you need 50 memory points to travel to a new location but I didn't have those left once the boss room was in reach

Well at least not for the first half hour, I wanted a puzzle platformer and this isn't it.
Pretty competent 3d platformer/battler though, perhaps if it lets the cooldown finish from demon tides I could see picking it up. Character is certainly more attractive than beebz 2.
It suffers from "not a vertical slice" demo though so I have no idea if it gets actually hard or interesting later.

I just finished the demo and it's exactly that. the protagonist is OP, he becomes sect master of an all female sect immediately, then they just give you high level techniques and every character is a damsel in distress who immediately goes "let me sleep with you."(no 18+ content, don't get your hopes up anons)

The Glued takes the cake for being the worst demo I've ever played
it's less than 5 min long, you do fuck all in it, and it just abruptly ends, asking you to check out the dev's other games
>I'm at school, goodbye friends
>wha? I don't remember coming to this place
>huh? I have a phone? what's this emoji? someone's asking me to go to school? they have a mask glued on and they can't remove it
>THANKS FOR PLAYING THE DEMO
there, I just saved you 3 to 4 min of your life
>>
>>734003808
Yes. There are devs who seriously think that they should only have a demo available as a limited thing to entice people to care about their game above all of the 4 thousand other demos.
In truth all it does it expose them as people who don't care if you're a late comer, if you aren't a diehard fan on day 1 you don't matter to them, just buy the game instead if you want to form an opinion. This backwards logic literally only works if the demo is not representative of the final product (game shouldn't be undergoing major changes) or if the game depends on an active online playerbase to even be played.
Only big name publishers could actually swing their popularity around for shit like this.

Spooky atmosphere but by the end I felt disappointed as that's all it had going for it. In the demo you walk around picking up keycards until you get forcibly decommissioned. Would love the dev to team up with more people to create a real game out of the setting because he did a good job on the sound design and the flashlight made me feel like I was a robot. But it's missing too much in the gameplay department for me to recommend. Maybe the full game will change this.

Here's your Danganronpa-like bro.
Presentation wise, it's good. Mechanically it's your standard investigative visual novel. Collect evidence, talk to witnesses, and then a big inquistion/trial set-piece at the end.
I think the worldbuilding is really good though. It's some kind of theocratic cyberpunk dystopia. Your character is an inquisitor investigating heretics and lovecraftian monsters. It's reminiscent of the Project Moon universe, if you enjoy Limbus or Ruina for their worldbuilding you'll be right at home.

The graphics are very nice and the gameplay has some extra gimmicks (compared to Gungeon) but the dungeon is just this basic "clear Room A, choose between Room B or Room C" format which is a bit disappointing, and the menus/translation needs some extra work.

Just started playing some demos:
The dungeon experience : Unbereable Reddit/Millenial writing. I don't know why I expected more out of this.
Hozy: It's a nice interior cleaning and decoration game.
mole: Decent horror game but with cheap jumpscares. Good atmosphere and in world interactions with machines, but fairly linear - at least in the demo. Doesn't handhold much.

yeah the developer mentioned that in one of his updates that he thinks the open ended nature might not be making for a great demo.

I love Rhythm games but I did absolutely not vibe with the control scheme of Hypnosinc. I tried with both a stick and keyboard and neither felt good. If anything stick felt even more awkward. The dev shows his fingers and how he uses his stick in one of trailers on the storepage and it doesn't look any less awkward there.
Now Falsus, which also opts for a unique control scheme, that game I loved, big recommend.

She has hearts, so yes. She's a little crazy and the one who accidentally summoned the player character. She says it will take her 2 years to find a way back so I guess that means if the player doesn't settle down with anyone by then, the game ends with the player character being returned to earth but that is just my assumption.

>Nox Mortalis
I was about to make a post about this one.
At first I thought it was a dungeon crawler where you need to harvest resources in the surface and craft equipment and healing items before your dungeon crawling (the demo has 15 floors), but turns out that most of the game's content is actually on the surface, including some of the best items in the demo (you can find a sword that is better than any crafted item very close to your house). Don't explore the world without the "return to spawn point" tool from the dungeon, though.
It's hard to recommend it due to the slow-paced combat and movement speed, but the amount of secrets and magic items that are basically cheat codes makes it entertaining (I'm running faster than normal in this webm because I found a speed mushroom and a speed ring).

Ok Fags heres what I played and what i thought.
"hark the Ghoul'- good shit. wants to be fantasy system shock and im for it.
'Bombun' Wants to be bomberman 64 with bunnies. not bad.
'Cthulu the cosmic abyss' fuggin sucked. Pass
"Super beast world' Annoying precision rage inducing platforming bullshit. Really fucking fun though.
'Luna Abyss' Fuckin wierd FPS game. Unreal slop but actually looks good. Seemed fun to me.
'Guns and Nuns' fuckin retarded. Kinda amusing but fuckin retarded.
'Interdimensional vending machine' Dont know how to play it. I starved and apparently nobody gave a shit. If there was some greater point to the vending machine items i didnt find it though at one point my girl looked slightly diseased though it cleared up.
'Withering realms' Ghost girl piggybacking on a creepy doll. Control is sluggish and stiffer than my dick on my wedding day. Still if you can get a feel for it this seems pretty good.
'Ariana and the elder codex' Visuals want to be Afterimage but gameplay wants to be Tevi Its fun and has potential but feels like something was missing...
'Rig riot' Barely played but seemed a clusterfuck. Definitely not on the same level as Armored core or Dolls nest but someone might like it

>Fantasy Sys Shock
NANI???
>Dolls nest
How is this? Shitty cashgrab with lolis or actually decent mecha game?
So far I've played
>Esoteric Ebb
Have posted multiple times on this already, very good disco-like (their words) that doesn't lean too far into either direction politically. Very open world, you can easily end up dead by just wondering off like I almost did kek. Fun way of doing combat where you get initiatives and have dialogue options for different actions based on your attributes and you can even cast different spells mid-fight. Did a really good job of fleshing out the world, really want to see more anachronistic stuff like the bicycles and jukebox.
>Parasite Mutant
Parasite Eve-clone that seems kinda basic. Very smooth UI that's got SOUL and the enemies look really grotesque and monstrous. Gameplay is easy though so hopefully enemies get quicker or more dangerous attacks that you can't just run around. Blasted through the demo's final boss by just unloading your one megabuster magic attack and then using the 10+ fucking ethers they give you to recharge MP. Neat aesthetics too.
>Audiomech
Played this back during it's initial announcement. Need more music games like this and Beat Hazard I can connect to youtube/spotify/my own music. Breddy fun but sometimes your music choice can cuck you since sometimes certain enemies can only be killed with certain weapons. Has that roguelite item-choice between rounds that mite be kewl but so far the gameplay is kinda basic, just mellow out to your music.
>No Vacation for an Exectutioner
About to play this one but from what I've seen looks breddy cool.

Kind of funny. The character classes are all ridiculous, like fishmonger or sous chef. There's a menu option to disable random encounters. That's a new one on me, I think. Don't know if I've seen a game with that option before.
The snail thing they are referencing is this:

Just a ripoff of It Follows, but with a snail instead of a monster who follows you at a constant steady pace, basically.

The "intended" progression is
>harvest tree
>craft pickaxe
>harvest rock
>craft sword and new pickaxe
>goto dungeon and and find new materials
>craft keys
>open chests
And you will repeat this this loop as you find new materials, but you can just skip most of it by finding a pickaxe, a sword, some explosives and the crossbow in the surface. Walk past the dungeon's entrance and stay close to the wall, be careful with the ruins and keep moving forward until you find a cliff and a NPC (talk to him until he runs out of dialogue lines) to get the sword.
I forgot I was on the other side of the map so unfortunately I can't give you better instructions right now (my stone is teleporting me to a new spawn point close to this church).

I was surprised to see the 45-degree angle lock as the default. Only thing I wish they did was pick an art style closer to the original's. Ok Here's some reviews from random demos I've played so far:
>Dive or die - children of rain
Fun game mixture of Darkest dungeon style art/permadeath with solo diving mechanics. There's only ~10 days/dives in the demo but it seems to nail creepy lovecraftian vibes.
>Fogpiercer
Another fun game deckbuilder FTL style maps with tactical positioning in fights, you're a train fighting bandits and you get to choose which carriage types/cards you want to get or upgrade. Very recommended
>Ex Sanguis
Not recommended, turn based tactical game where your abilities can change how often attacks occur. Art is very white and red so its hard to see and understand what's going on. No real world or character building I can see
>Withering Realms
Mixed on this. I liked the dev's previous game but I felt like most of the time I was fighting the camera not the enemy, combat is clunky. Using a young girl doesn't seem great for having deep character interactions as well.
>Tides of Bladefall
Fun mix of sunless sea and disco elysium

There hasn't been much "hype" for video games in general for a while now. /v/ has been a relative for some time and it's only getting more and more apparent by the day. You'd have thought the Switch 2 would have reignited something, but not even that has done much.
All to say that no, it wasn't any "press preview" that killed hype. The whole industry is in a downturn ever since the effects of the covid bump started wearing off.

>>733995015
Looks decent but combat is easy and simple. Needs more work on the lore and mechanics in general. World isn't that interesting to explore, it's mostly linear with one or two secrets per section.
Camera and dodge are stiff with a controller.
Has promise but needs a ton of work. They have already worked on it for over four years or so...

Honestly the stupid amount of spikes and giant dildos of death, randomly losing 100% of my cash after dying and being forced to play a 2D game with the analog stick (aiming the dagger with the D-Pad sucks) was far more annoying me more than reading the flirty dialogue lines of a wholesome slut who wants to fuck space lizards and purple dudes and brown ladies while her ex-gf is watching on the other side of the room because she forgot to put a door in her bedroom. But yeah I don't disagree with you.
You need to fight enemies to farm money and buy passive effects in that skill tree ("+10% melee damage" in a game where you 10 damage per hit), so it's not "completely" useless (it becomes completely useless when you accidentally die trying to complete yet another spikefest room and lose all of your cash instantly).
But the teleporting dagger was a very cool idea, at least.

I think that's an unlockable feature or post-ending content because there is no option to disable the futa content in the demo. They all have dicks and balls and you have to fuck them whether you like that balls-on-balls action or not.
Also the actual gameplay is balls shooting balls at balls (and other shapes). At least it's not a vampire survivors clone (even though it looks like one).

Missile defense is beatable. Simply get good.
The game is fun if a bit simple. The "recover your body" gimmick is interesting. I like that you got a selection of weapons at the end, the sniper rifle had a fun mechanic where it basically hitscans if you ADS for long enough but it needs a way more impactful firing sound.

I played more than I remember but here's the ones I liked.
>Parasite Mutant
Competent PE clone. Maybe a bit too easy? I did 3 playthroughs and never did once, two of these playthroughs I didn't even get the SMG.
>Cicadamata
This just feels insanely smooth to play. Everything about the presentation is excellent, and I like that the scoring isn't solely focused on speed.
>Withering Realms
ToT ghost cunny erotic!
>Infalsus
Genuinely fantastic barring some visibility issues. I wish the notes on the sides were of a bit brighter color.
>Bellagarth's Quest
I don't even care about the fat fetish stuff, the game just oozes soul. The animations are just so well done, and there's so many little details, you can just feel how much passion went into the game.
>Panic Floor!!
Good stuff but I don't know if I'll get it. These types of games aren't my cup of tea.
>Mighttreya
Good but I really hope the final game is a bit more complex. The trailer mentions 3 weapons and in the demo you only have acess to 1 so hopefully the final game is a bit deeper because right now it's very, very easy.
Special Mention:
>Mörk Borg
On this one I'm torn. I love the art style, and I appreciate any game that tries to be Dragon's Crown and looks halfway decent, but the combat is so incredibly slow, it's painfully slow, and the fact that you have to constantly backtrack as there's lots of dead ends with no looping paths just sucks. Actually, I changed my mind, I didn't like this one.

It's not very good no. I was hoping for more despite the low budget visuals but the combat feels off and the jumping/stomping mechanics are awkward. Each level chunk is about as uninspired as you can get too. It's MAYBE a 6/10 at best but that means you might find something in it I couldn't.
>>
>>734037712
It's unfortunate that the initial reaction to using a tool that can help lower the barrier and equalize a bit for smaller indie companies and solo developers to compete with these bigger companies is what it is. I really don't care if AI tools are used to help make the game as long as the art direction is nice and the game is fun and interesting. Anything that can help out these smaller teams who actually have passion for making games, I'm OK with them leveraging it.

Yeah, there's no reasoning with those idiots who are aggressively anti-technology. But you don't need to reason with them, the fact of the matter is AI is cheaper than humans and low cost solutions will always win, no matter how much you whine about it on the internet.
Sure, it lets people make games with minimal effort, but low effort games have always existed as RPGmakers or Shovelwares. You can just ignore them instead of throwing a tantrum every time.
What I'm really looking forwards to is when the people with talent start pushing the boundaries of AI. Then we might see something special. There's a bit of novel use for equalization already, with some indie games generating entire radio station soundtracks so they can mimic the GTA car radio but avoid licensing fees for real songs. That's just the tip of the iceberg though. There's so much more that can be done with AI, I can't wait to see it.

How come developers of the past could put out real stealth games, albeit mostly very flawed compared to their counterparts in the double A side and yet an indie developers quality is generally below even this? none of them will even attempt layered stealth in which clone Thief or Splinter Cell, light and sound meter based.
Let alone indie devs don't even do the stealth genre mostly except for the rare exceptions of: Neon Struct, Gloomwood, Filcher and Intravenous. But these were the exceptions to the rule to have really attempted something proper. I'm fairly certain that it's not working as intended in Brush Burial. I will keep bitching about this until someone in these threads who is a developer sees what I'm complaining about and decides to make a game. It doesn't need to be replica of Thief/SC but it does need to be good in it's own way. It needs depth to mechanics. I don't list MGS because the management of layered stealth is reduced.

This demo is very very short and there's not much to it but I want to shill it because I'm a big fan of the devs, it's an interactive vn with some metay elements, you interact with a cute girl in 3 minute intervals, there's only one solution to the demo right now as far as I can tellminimizing the window and then bring it back up over and over or dragging it around and shaking itbut I actually have faith the devs will include a lot more neat stuff in the full version

Protip if you end up falling down the hole from digging too far invest in a jetpack first. Then use the bong sitting by the couch at the front of the yard to enable low gravity. Does it use light based mechanics in regards to Neverlooted? I'll give the demo a shot.
From my research i think Peripeteia, Corpus Edax and Transience have some loose form of visibility based mechanics but i can't remember how deep and whether there's some real form of trackable light levels throughout levels, that's a design thing. Light based design is a real thing and it's apart of the level design. Peripetia also wanted to be Thief at the same time if I'm recalling correctly so if that's one i misjudged then I'll stand corrected on one more being there. It's just i can't remember how well it worked and games like Neon Struct stood out more to me. Don't remember if it does sound propagation properly or not. There's some upcoming Thief/Dishonored clones like Terror Type Alchemy and Disavowed. But i also don't recall anything sticking out in either one of their demos. The sound part didn't really seem that deep or nor did the hiding through shadows and moving through areas of light seem apparent to me.

Well that's interesting because you're admitting that indie developers make games that only they know will sell. Rather than making games that have a niche audience like how gaming was back in the late 90s and early 2000s.
>>
>>
>>734044275
To be fair it's not really stigmatized to the point people will stop using it. Even now, despite the knee jerk response in some online communities to AI specifically in illustrations and music, the majority of people either don't care one way or the other or like/utilize AI in their tasks and project workflows. That's only going to keep growing as the technology gets better and more people better understand what they have in front of them to use.

Most of the time, you'll probably be able to play the demo after the event ends.
Sometimes they remove the demo from being downloaded, but if you've got it on your pc you can still play it, other times they'll push an update that deletes the files (I've seen it happen like twice), and then there's the ones that require a connection to steam, which means when the demo becomes unavailable to download, the game won't work. I haven't tried the goldberg thing, especially since having to go out of my way to play a fucking demo just puts me off, but you can sometimes just delete the steam_api file, and it'll work.
If I really like the game, I'll just make a note of the game, and sometimes, they put the demo up again in the next next fest (another issue, games should be limited to one appearance per fest to limit bloat but wtv)

Kingdom's Return. Normally Inti Creates can at least be trusted to put out a 7/10 that maybe squanders a good premise but everything about this thing except the sprite/portrait art sucked. The pitch seemed like it was trying to be a take on Actraiser but Actraiser had actual level & enemy design.

I played an asset flip horror game that had no options, defaulted to a small window, and would hard close with the press of the escape key. There is no opening sequence or even floating text to give direction to the player. When I tried to talk to the only NPC in sight a second time, the playable character got stuck trying to line up with them and I was forced to close the game.

I told myself I'd either play each demo until I got to the end, or until I got bored of them, but this one is really damn long. I'll put it down for now so it doesn't siphon all my time.
It's tagged as a farming sim, but really it's also half-mystery, but all the moving parts don't really become super apparent until about two weeks into the in-game calendar where a bunch of shit starts to hit the fan. It has the chink hallmark of the MC being super-competent and good at almost everything, and the girls fawning over him after one interaction, but they are cute and have nice sprites, so I'm not too sour over that.
The farming aspect is simple, but just about engaging enough for me to not be bored as I progress to the next breadcrumb of narrative, which is interesting so far. Definitely keeping an eye on it. A bit buggy though.

says it has AI but it's for the backgrounds only, the first game didn't have any disclaimer so i'll believe that disclaimer for this one completely.

Zero Paredes is basically a cargo cult version of Disco Elysium. You know, like those pacific islander tribes post WW2 that kept making mock airports and wearing coconut shells as helmets in hope of once again summoning crates of supplies from US army?
It's a pale imitation, fumbling with rhetorical and narrative tricks and tools it does not really understand to try and fail to evoke the same emotional impact that DE was so well known for.
It's not like DE is a perfect game, there's plenty of legitimate criticism of it, but it was a uniquely impactful title.

>Also actually playable solo
how? you need 1 weapon, 1 torch, food, slot for key. you can't hold shit and have to run back and forth between loot piles like a retard with t-rex arms
>just craft a backpack bro
>just spend 45 minutes hunting for leather before you start playing the game for real
it needs a lot of work besides that, combat as you said

>Denshattack
it's like playing the old Hugo games, on rails QTEs
>down...South
isn't it just hold right to win? I only made it to saladfingers before quitting
>Notably Good but only if you're down for the genre/aesthetic
>Titanium Court
both the match 3 and the combat is mid, i don't get it
>Jenny the Witch
some promise but needs a lot of work, it's like a bad ps2 action game from 25 years ago

Hopefully this will end better than the anime
Overall a good run, but my main complaint this fest is how lackluster the H-games have been. Is this the influence of steam censorship or was it just a bad turnout this year?

I only died to two things: one of the bottomless pits, and the boss fight on my second playthrough, because if you choose tokill the green guythe boss gets a second, harder phase that's actually a challenge.

Has anyone else tried Kisaragi? It's a short demo and a very basic/amateur third person shooter but it was pretty fun. Here's a clip of some gameplay.
