It's that time of the year, where we download an irresponsible amount of demos
Explore upcoming releases, discuss/rate what you try, wishlist the games you like, give some recommendations, and most importantly: Have fun.

An anon recommended me this and I wanted to enjoy it so badly however the controls are garbage (sprint should really be a double tap the stick and not a button hold, the jumping also feels sluggish and bad) and its hard to tell whats going on with all the random events (most of them are just there to put more bullshit on the screen), enemies that blend into the background throwing their active hitbox bodies towards you, the fucking tomatos with the giant hitboxes that force you to bounce up usually into enemies or spikes, etc. They don't seem to be accepting steam reviews on the demo either which is unfortunate.

How in the fuck do you make this good of a hack and slash battlemage game and then use the WORST words and visuals to market it?
It upsets me at how this thing's player count is inversely proportional to its quality. And it's probably because of how it looks like shovelware at first glance.
>>
I wanna like HYPNOSYNC so much but the dev is too much of a rhythm game autist that even basic mode beyond the first couple of songs is really hard. 4 directions + 8 keys is too much for new players. The hypnosis fetish visuals are pretty great though and I hope it actually goes somewhere with that. Here’s to hoping it becomes a proper game someday.

I can scarcely believe I'm actually looking forward to an Unreal Engine open world survivalcraft. These devs seem to actually have an idea of what makes a game fun. Not only are the visuals nice and cute, but the movements and gathering and general gameplay are also very smooth and decently satisfying. So many survivalcrafts fail at basic shit like making resource gathering painful and unfun, but these fellas have a good thing going.
They made these semen demons and then made them 6 feet tall instead of letting them be gobbos. I don't understand but I'm willing to forgive, since the models are quite cute anyway.

Someone finally made a Morrowind that's fun to actually PLAY instead of talking about. It also feels like it's better at being Morrowind than Morrowind itself, in that it feels a lot more alien and mysterious compared to the infinite brown swamp with big mushrooms. Doesn't have the same grit to it though, unfortunately. Very safe and sterile.
On the topic of safe and sterile, it's a shame the lead dev is a low IQ spineless faggot, but given how fantastic the demo is to play and look at I'm still willing to entertain the possibility of the full game also ending up good.

Several factors:
- Brazilians that not only flood the board with press preview threads, they actively take pride in ruining the next fest for most of the board, which is a natural byproduct of their brown brown animal nature.
- AI is rapidly gaining traction. During one of the first nextfests I gave a chance to one of the few AI games on it because it just had AI-gened skill images and everything else was hand-crafted, including all the actual sprites. That was about the maximum extend of sloppery you could expect back then and even then it was considered a sin worthy of the capital punishment. Now AI got so "good" that a chink/brazilian can tell it to make the whole fucking thing for him and then shit it out onto the nextfest page in the hopes that some 9 year old will download it and mine enough bitcoins for Chang/Pablo to retire.

I played about 20 demos. Only ones I came away impressed by were,
1) Hozy. Really nice style and feels nice to play. I won't play it again though.
2) Replaced. Promising, interesting story. Reminds me of Inside and The Final Station.
3) John Carpenter's Toxic Commando. Really enjoyed it which wasn't surprising since I'm a big fan of WWZ and other co-op shooters.

>looter shooter
No idea.
>only 1 starter mon
Probably something something demo scope limitations.
Looking at the kind of shit they're planning to do I find it forgiving. Down the line you'll be able to splice and crossbreed and genetically engineer shit to a frighteningly versatile degree, so I assume it's all mid-late game loaded instead of giving a fuck about your throwaway starter.
>>734069026
I don't understand the purpose of this post.
>>
>>734068376
I found it less fun to play than morrowind, it just doesn't feel satisfying if that makes sense. I like the style the world is going for, but like you said there's a lack of grit that makes it feel more like an amusement park, and the writing isn't bad but is just very bland
>>

>>734069608
I liked the gameplay and the visuals, primarily. Cool creature designs, cool environment designs, weapons felt good (used to be dogshit in older demo versions), etc. The setting has no grit but it feels a lot more genuinely alien and strange.
Calling it an amusement park is a fair criticism, I suppose, all of my positive impressions come from it being a fairly curated experience with limited scope, so they could totally fuck it up a thousand different ways when they just let you loose on the world in the full game, but after the progress that was done since the initial version of the demo where weapons were dogshit and the world was boring and the creatures were more generic, I'm at least willing to give it a chance.
>>734069487
Does look like shit in the screenshot, but those portraits are actually outdated. The ones I saw while playing were definitely different from the ones they show in promotional material and seemed more internally consistent between each other. Not gonna pretend like I properly analyzed them all though, but I felt like I was a proper part of the world during my gamplay. I can tell they use SOME royalty free shit, like the music, but I don't know if or how far that extends towards the assets.
>>
>>734069957
You get someone else relatively soon into the demo, don't recall how many exactly. The way they seem to be structuring this game it definitely seems like the kind to get better the longer you play rather than the other way around as it usually is.

Only survivalcraft in years that I'm okay with, and it's not because of the sexy tallgobbos, it actually plays nice.
>Alchemickal
A fantastic high tension action game by one of our fellow /v/ermin.
>Soulquest
Awful generic name but beautiful and engaging spectacle fighter. Dialog is slightly cringe, but I have some faith still because the setup for the main character is she lost her ass kicker husband and tries to get revenge using her swanky magic sword that basically does most of the work for her and is clearly slowly corrupting her. No girlbossing.

Speaking of which.
Very high effort spectacle fighter despite how generic the name and the banner look. The combos are fun to execute and aren't very tolerant of blind button mashing. Peculiar story setup, but the demo doesn't do it justice.
>>
>>734070742
If you haven't played this one - play it. Right now if you can. It's an action roguelite that feels almost like a fantasy Synthetik. The sheer chaos and mayhem between the swarms of enemies, your short lifespan, and the constant juggling of elemental chemicals is just mwah, fantastic.

>Goblin Nest
Management sim. Demon lady brings back goblins from extinction to wreck havoc on humies. Raid areas for stuff mainly women to rape and breed but also resources and blueprints. Demo had 4 breeding stalls and 2 pleasure stalls (oral and titjob). You can choose what clothes to leave on them so for me I made the breeding stalls show bare feet. I can't remember the exact specifics of every breeding stall off the top of my head but one was doggy and one was missionary, and they had some options for where to put their arms in the stall, say behind their back in doggy, under their breasts in titjob. There are also birthing and milking stalls. They get raped, they get pregnant then give birth then get milked. They birth a limited number of babies, you can sell them after but I threw a few shaman in pleasure stalls. The mask wins me over compared to nun and villager.
Different types of women give different goblin babies but I only saw two in the demo. Villager, nun, and shaman, with shaman and nun birthing the same unit. There is one hero type (minotaur girl with big tits) in the demo. She could birth more gobbos and be milkable without getting pregnant but they were 1 star and I needed a lot of 3 star units to even capture her so I just left her in a display stall fucking useless whore.

I gave it a try because green women with big fat knife-ears sets my dick of fire, unfortunately this game also tried to set my PC on fire.
I'm not a big fan of survivalcraft games either but I liked the idea of airships, floating islands and a harem of green women but I think I will wait for the full release (in 2064 or something).
>made them 6 feet tall instead of letting them be gobbos
Human-gobbo breeding and its consequences have been a disaster for the goblin race.

Super good rythm game. Forbidden difficulty is insane.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3936730/STARDUST_Wish_of_Witch/
Really well animated pixel art, great VA work. Decent tactical jrpg card based combat. You don't get to control the characters between fights in the demo so it has a decent tempo.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3817250/CICADAMATA/
holy shit this is one of the best combo of first person platforming/speed running I've seen so far, rivals the AVENGE MYSELF demo from last year
they totally cribbed on the marathon art style though, especially with that gun
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3568960/Valerie/
Endearing momentum based 2D platformer with great feel, music and abilities. Very cute and wholesome. Nice animation. Even seems to have decent writing. Art is pretty basic though.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3188510/Project_SEVER/
Really cool fantasy submarine simulator. You're helping the pilot operate the systems, computers and controls of a fantasy miniature submarine. Old soviet theme, computers keep rebooting and glitching. Very well thought out.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3913370/Nebula_Veil/
A bit more simple and less involved than SEVER but still cool. The ship AI sounded like an effeminate guy doing a robot voice rather than using a filter lol
A more tactile game since you get to directly pilot this ship per default. The ship controls in SEVER are hard as hell to use.
Still, seems decent. I flew around looking for the frequencies in the black box before moving on to more demos.

Neat physics based racer/area fighter with Akira themed world. Very chaotic and unfair, in a fun way. Stays on wishlist.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2650780/Cavern/
unorthodox real time dungeon crawler with cute 3D graphics reminiscent of Little Big Adventure 2.
I couldn't get the item swap menu to work, so I got stuck after a couple of levels
A bit too much dialogue in the intro
Funky.

Very fun FPS speed running. Minimalist compared to CICADAMATA". I don't understand how the leaders get sub 1 min scores.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2663150/Valkyrie_Saga/
Cute platformer, felt like playing an old N64 game. I normally don't play 3D platformers but this was just cozy and interesting enough for me, especially after you get the slam + super jump
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4111040/Grgoire_Lefbvre_Investigati ons__The_Vow_of_Hate/
Really nice detective story based on a novel. Great voice work and writing.
Others have already mentioned:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1971670/Panic_Floor/
Anons game, very tricky platformer.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1148130/Divinum/
Starts simple but with a terrific feel. Slowly builds and give you more abilities. But the fluid dash, lunge and parries are the meat and potatoes. A 2D nu-GoW X Astlibra mix maybe?
I have a bunch more honorary mentions but whatever

Tried this game because I myself have had the thought that "Man a disco elysium style fantasy game would be cool" but holy fuck does this shit swing and miss the mark so bad. Themes in this game are a fucking mess; It's like they wanted a fantasy setting but were too afraid of it being too much of a fantasy setting so they added in a bunch of modern shit for no reason. There are bicycles and printing presses, news-stands and lightposts and way too much modern shit crammed into it for no reason. At one point you talk to a demon about the stock market. It's like they were afraid of being not enough like disco elysium, so they smashed all this shit in to hit an imaginary checklist.
The main character is basically retarded, which makes no sense because he's supposed to be some kind of high-ranking cleric in a government body that's basically the FBI. He's pathetic, can't do anything himself, and constantly fucks everything up like a retarded child. Even in combat it's you floundering around while your companion does all of the actual work, because god forbid you do anything cool or on your own.
The game also has some pointless election going on that you have absolutely no reason to get involved with, yet everyone bothers you about it. Maybe it makes more sense later in the game, but at the start it really seems pointless.
It has so much potential to be good, but the writing is just way too stupid for me. The main character is way too pathetic. I know you're a bumbling oaf in Disco but it's because the MC is an alcoholic who is also slowly going insane due to becoming psychically active. In this you're a cleric that's part of a much more powerful organization, not just some low ranking cop sent into a shithole.
2/10 Good idea but terrible execution. Won't be buying it. Thank you for reading my blog.

All right, after scrolling through thousands of demos and trying the few dozen that caught my interest, my verdict is:
Best demo: My Fav Chill Streamer Dies a Million Times
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3507880/My_Fav_Chill_Streamer_Dies_ a_Million_Times100/
I'm not even a fan of VTubers and yet I still enjoyed this time traveling murder mystery game. The demo itself is rock solid. I encountered no issues whatsoever, not even technical problems on Linux.
Most potential: Voice of Nature
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4256650/Voice_of_Nature_Demo/
A Harvest Moon knock-off with an isekai spin but something quite refreshing is that it's a hetero entry in a genre now taken over by LGBT and I feel inclined to buy it just for that 'cuz such bravery deserves a reward. As for the demo, it has some flaws but the dev has said they are working on them. English is not their first language but questionable English is preferable to a English "localization" so I'll overlook that part.
Game I most wanted to play that wouldn't load: Engram
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3928930/Engram/
This one looks interesting as an AI driven adventure game but it wouldn't load.

The writers have the perpetual modern writer problem, they can't let their audience believe the world is serious. Something has to be ironic or make a quip every two minutes or his twatter clique will laugh at him for being a tryhard nerd

My impression exactly, and the planescape torment-esque opening got me kind of excited, after the worries raised by the modern slang in the character creation screen, but then it's exactly what you said, plus wayyy too much text that's not particularly engaging (the books...)
The other DE-like, Zero Parades, managed to get me hooked and left me wanting for more but this one I started skipping most of the text after talking to the mortician, skipped all the dialogue after the dwarves and alt F4'd at the goblin queen

I agree with you about me being dumb here because if I navigated the store better I could've gotten this done two days ago instead of having so little time remaining.
While I'm at it I'll give an honorable mention to Donutal. It's a friendly game that does a great job at addressing immigration by basically having the player play as a member of the Men in Black. The demo however ends a little too soon because you don't get to see the outcome of your choices on the last stage of the demo.

I liked stick of truth way better than fractured but whole, mainly because of the combat presentation. In sick of truth when someone casts fireball they light a firecracker, in fractured but whole when a character does a super speed punch they just do a super speed punch. It completely lost the charm of kids playing a pretend game.

a: operation eventide - a true indie vn that has soul and fun art, dark vn about magic girl killed and brought back as robot
b: sakura arms - fun 1v1 card game based on a board game
ghost roomate - surprinsgly charming and hot vn
annhilated - has soul, has some potential, just needs a little more grounding
c. ace strategy - very bland, felt super rough around the edges, deckbuilders already crowded
big beautiful women. wasnt a fan of the art style, the guys writing is actually super aware/otaku. despite liking the fetish, felt tacked on
d. soul trigger - combat takes way too long, and 'card based' doesnt feel goo here
ashes of sigularity - too much stuff is going on, way too many resources and buildings happening at once, very bad ui glitches too
preledomena - didn't hook me, typical 'meta' story
witchs apoc - a deck builder that is super rough and barely translated. the theme seemed interesting but couldnt even play demo
rise of cones - should have known based on title, super basic and uninspired tower defense

Actually I change my mind about Inquisitor Shepherd. I thought it would be of the Devil or Psycho-Sleuth of this fest but it doesn't reach that quality.
My gripes with it are:
-most of clues are irrelevant in a demo
-game repeats some obvious stuff too many times because sometimes your MC decides to do summary of what you just investigated
-game sells itself as you being fresh inquisitor going to investigate the village in signs of heresy which was apparently detected in there with hints of narrative that some cult killed your parents and I thought we would slowly uncover the cases which would be related to that one cult but so far it feels like it focuses too much on MC story and the cult. I understand that's what devs want to focus on a story but I still felt disappointed
-demo ends "mid-trial" and with big cliffhanger
-weirdly enough it is quite buggy for a VN. I tried to repeat one section just to see how other choices change dialogue or if they matter but I couldn't progress past one point because puzzle would give me error no matter what I did. Overall got 4 errors which one was locking me out of playing the game.
Overall I think it has potential but I am not hopeful

Good:
Divium:
Satisfying combat, no fluff.
Okay;
Everything is crab:
Decent mindless numbers go up kind of game. Actual game would need a lot to make me want to buy it though.
SoulQuest:
Prettier than div, plays worse
Mighty Reya:
Bad camera, very basic combat, suprisingly somehow a step down from assault spy in terms of how it felt to play the character even if its better in basically every other aspect
Ariana:
Neat but you can just spam fireball and water repeatedly to stunlock basically everything. System is fundamentally broken.
Blood Vial:
Splatoon 2 lets play
Kingdoms Return: 2d sidescroller mixed with town builder, both are very simple, but its okay
Bad:
Runeomicon
You just fill in shapes. No, the giant busty lady doesn't make it good, those are a dime a dozen now.
Blade of Wiz:
Its a hadies clone
I don't like Hydeez
Awakener battle tendies:
Tiny moveset, wants me to grind the demo to play anyone else or use the blatant coomer skin, fps nearly died on using the not-musou v a large crowd
This is actually a remake or sequel or something of a nearly identical game. Was hoping they made it good this time.
Grime 2: Its just kind of boring and boss fights are still parryslop
Vamp Crawlers:
boring as fuck, you just count to 3
Seth:
Ran like ass
Platyguard:
Mobile game
Galactic Vault:
Bad ai, 1 weapon, no real appeal
Don't lose aggro:
Fails at the core fantasy since you can't lose aggro once you get it at all

There's too many hack artists in the world and it seems that hacks are who also end up teaching art because the good ones make a living off their art or starve trying. Add that to art for games being this subset that needs a lot of special considerations that normal artists don't need to bother with and you get this fucking mess of 90% of games looking like total ass. Even the ones that technically have quality art often look like ass because there's no direction or aesthetic sense to it.

Did you find a lot of games that caught your interest or were most of them not good? What game from this fest are you looking forward to releasing. Found this one randomly, I dont think anyone talked about it. It's 2hu civilization and it's pretty goode. I didnt get how to properly play it until my second game where I realized I had to also focus on leveling your hero to get another hero slot to deploy. You can deploy about 3 different heros maximum after leveling them up. I mainly played as remilia's egypt faction using sakuya which leveled up from clearing up fog from exploring the map herself. Then I got china which did a lot of damage by just walking around and flandre last, though the game ended before I could use her last upgrade which let you 3 more copies of her. The game is pretty quick in that it ends in about an hour compared to civ games on a 4 player map. There's a lot more civilizations other than the 3 you get, which you fight against and im looking forward to see the updates for more mechanics as it's pretty simple so far. It seems best to just focus on conquest but there's also other ways to win like having 100 gold, or find 4 pillar barriers of the map and build a wonder which I'm not sure if it's properly working.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3127770/ACE_Strategy_Mecha_Nova/
My favorite cardslop so far, the grid system is pretty fun as you summon drones which gives buffs in which ever direction pointed to. If you chain them together, you can pass down all the buffs to each other with the last getting all of it. If you beat one of the mini bosses you also get a very strong mech summon with 3 choices of passive/skill that lets you have an edge over what your fighting against. You also have to be smart with positioning as if the mech summon dies you dont get to summon them again until the next battle. Though most attacks will target the front row unless stated, so the normal drones(basically infinite unless the card says removed from deck) can cover a lot of damage from squishy targets.
>>
Whining incessantly is traditionally the best way to get people on your side. People love whiners so much. When your wife tells you to do the dishes 500 times, it makes you love doing dishes and love your wife. Hearing the same thing over and over again is music to people's ears.
>>
>>734105923
continuing from word limit
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4335250/Rainbow_Legends_Demo/
Other cardslop im looking forward to. You flip up tiles with cards and try to have the most tiles to deal damage, or you can also hit their core with cards for damage. Most of the normal battles are too easy but some of the elite battles are really hard, especially for the pink faction as she focuses more on deployables. The deployables dont feel strong enough compared to the blue mage character where you can just easily paint the map for advantage. I think they just need too many protection cards which ends up with you not able to paint the map effectively. There's a million other characters locked for the game so definitely looking up to when they make the game available.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3668060/Down_with_the_Ship_Demo/
Backpack battles in space. I love how the game focuses more on items/weapons using resources to work. Getting bag space, or hull space in this game is pretty easy however going over every 20 tiles will increase the time required to activate stuff. Some hulls can be finnicky where certain parts cannot be connected, same with some weapons where it needs to be placed at the edge of a hull. Had a run where I deleted the enemy with a big ass bombs and guns, effortlessly deleting about 18+ enemies in endless before getting deleted from better builds. However it does feel a bit too samey in the demo where characters are extremely limited to 3 and play almost the same with focus on weapons.

I suppose that if I found zero good games during the festival, I may consider it a failure, but I'd probably take a more reasonable stance of understanding I don't have to like everything I see.

Single player maple story without nexon forcing down shitty microtransactions and decisions on you. If you still like mindlessly grinding this is what you should get, its releasing on early access later on the 12. The start is pretty simple as you dont get much moves or skills other than simple slashing, dodging and shooting your slingshot when it charges. You get to place a machine on 1 map where it automatically spawns enemies and also collects loot+exp from the entire map. You can also place down traps to kill them to passively get exp while off that map or help you kill mobs faster if youre actively grinding there. I found navigating the map a bit hard to get to a specific area and the world map doesnt really help at all as there's more than 2 portals on some maps.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4113050/Wabisabi_SushiDerby/
Umamusume but your horses can get eaten in a race. You lose your racer but get money instead and exp to raise better sushi. In races the customers will randomly order a certain type of sushi and if it gets targeted you have to use the speedboost to escape. The speedboost is basically infinite but takes time to charge so there is some action you can do instead of just watching. You also can get random skill on your sushi from training, with them being random stuff like ink splash or a big explosion which stuns everyone except you. All of these skills are up to you when to use them in a race. Your sushi also dont last long, just about 4 days so it's better for them to get eaten at the end as they lose stats each day.

Some of the best sense of speed and control when it's going well. Even how fast you shift your weight on the speeder makes a massive difference in control.
The physics based movement both on and off vehicle has a significant initial skill check but an even higher skill ceiling on a level way surpassing rainworld's.
This and ExoRally will have me satisfied for a long time in terms of scifi vehicle racing.

he's obviously trying to deepthroat AI usage in game development because he's painfully brown
literally no one interested in the hobby should want more low-quality garbage being churned out, and they certainly don't give a shit how ~efficiently~ it can be done if the time savings doesn't benefit the player in any way such as reduced costs.
If a technology doesn't offer improvements to the play experience, it's worthless to the hobby. there is no further discussion to be had

Played the demo during the last next fest. It wasn't featured then, but the devs released the actual demo just before the las fest in October.

I like more arcadey FPS games but I don't get the appeal of The Last Salvage but I see people wishlisting it.
Is the game gonna have more than just arena fights? Like the one weapon limit seems kinda crazy to me but I'm assuming there's going to be stages where more weapons drop or something but I dunno.

I called it a night with playin demos and got my list.
DAY 1/AMAZING
>Titanium Court https://store.steampowered.com/app/2364580/Titanium_Court/
Probably one of the best strategy games ive played in a while with a good amount of depth to its mechanics, writing can be a miss sometimes but its still a absolute blast.
>Lost Wiki Kozlovaka https://store.steampowered.com/app/4018950/Lost_Wiki_Kozlovka/
For a demo that only lasts 15 minutes it hooked me with its detective mechanics and it does not hold your hand after the two tutorial puzzles. Gonna definitely pick up
Wish-listed/Great
>Last Gas Station
>Retro Rewind
Two really good store sims, First one is more story centric and the second is just good and comfy
>Denshattack
>Scriptorium:Master of Manuscripts
A goofy art game where you really have to work with limitations in a good way
>Blast Cats
If you like WarioWorld level design and neat movement mechanics get this one, it does a lot of its own thing well even if the first boss is a bit bullshit
>Elevator
May get on sale/Good
>Scritchy Scratchy
>Bobo Bay
If you REALLY want a Chao Garden game here ya go
>Beyond Words
>Eternal Afternoon
>Antivirus Survivor 2003
>Wasteland Bites
Probably will pass on/OK
>Simpliplanes2
>Weather Dragger
>A Stupid Game About Pouring Drinks for the PTA
>PLUTO
>MMO98
BAD
>Deadline Delivery
>Rewind99
Its Retro Rewind but dogshit
>Project Liminal 2

Trannies don't get that the original was like 90% posturing and 10% function. All the women in armor were just lumps of flesh wrapped around vaginas made to look like soldiers, much like that girl with two moms from a US military ad.
Regardless of whether they're originals or not, women are useless soldiers and playing as them ruins immersion unless it's some funky fantasy land where most of the work is done for the woman by magic, like >>734098893
Vasquez in Alien 2 was shit. Ripley in Alien 2 was shit. Show me one retard who though it was cool to duct tape a flamethrower and an assault rifle together and I bet you a bent shekel that he'll suffocate to death in 3 minutes if you tell him to hold his mouth shut. Older movies with girlbosses were shit, we just weren't as aware of it at that time, most of us weren't even born back then, and those that were had bad tastes and an environment that has been propagandizing false ideals on us for no less than a century at least.

Actually pretty much. It's much more deep than WoL as well, makes a far better use of the card mechanic. That second WoL was supposedly not even made by the original devs. No idea what they were thinking.
>>
>>734110674
The technology itself is useful, it's just that if you let it make a whole game for you - you end up with garbage that nobody plays. And if you use a little bit of it to supplement an area you can't cover as a solo dev despite having a rock solid game otherwise, you'll get piled on by screeching transgenders who want to virtue signal to artists.
On one side there are browns, on the other side there are trannies. Never thought I'd actually unironically be thinking about both sides being bad in the current political climate.

I didn't go through quite all of the list but from what I looked through I didn't find many demos this time around. Maybe in part I just wasn't feeling it but somehow not a lot caught my eye.
Fests three times a year makes sense for the developers. It's such a big part of your road to release that it would suck if there were only 2 a year. Like imagine having to wait for months just to be able to do a fest before your launch because you just weren't ready for the last one.

Anyone playing Hark the Ghoul. Cool game (too easy imo) but I'm having some trouble with this jump
You can use the gust spell with a jump to get up there and I've done so twice, but now for the life of me I can't get back up here. This is the only way forward I've found
I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm just short every time
>>
>>734105329
>were you able to finish all of the demos you downloaded in time?
I've downloaded a bit more than a hundred games and played them the whole week, just to realize I still have 70 left.
>Did you find a lot of games that caught your interest or were most of them not good?
At first look they are all mediocre, but somehow I already added a dozen of them in the wishlist. They still mediocre, don't know why I added them. They are just a bit more than mediocre. They are could be good, at least if a miracle happens.
>What game from this fest are you looking forward to releasing.
Previous fests had a few games which I was hyped about at the download stage. This fest is completely mediocre, I didn't spot a single game which I wanted to play first. I just keep playing demos in alphabetic order.
>Also would you prefer Steam did Next Fest Twice a year
Every festival I download about a hundred games. It's a lot for a single week. If Next Fest were be twice a year, that would be two hundred games for one week. So fucking impossible to check them all. But of course there will be more good games, not just mediocre.
Especially now, when AIslop games have flooded Steam and with each Next Fest there will be more and more of them.
It would be better if Next Fest stayed the same.

I almost didn't notice there was a demo for a new Amanita Designs game! Phonopolis, apparently a sort of dystopia where music is banned and people are brainwashed and made to work through loudspeakers. Seems a little more story-focused than most of their recent stuff, closer to Machinarium than, say, Creaks, but with narration and everything.

The hours are running out. What demo do I try I next? Picture related.
In return I'll shill Boost Vector Ex. It's basically F-Zero GX on legs, starring anime women. It does have some physics jank with some collisions, but broadly speaking the game flows and controls really well and the game really manages to sell the speed.
Drifting and boosting is very satisfying in this game.
Also. That People of Note game is actually a pretty decent RPG.
It's a shame that the explorable region/section you got to explore in the demo was extremely linear and simple. Which perhaps doesn't bode super well for the full game. But the combat was solid and slightly above average. The puzzles were also decent.
It's a real shame that the random mook NPCs and half the enemies look extremely lackluster though, because the 2D art is on the opposite end, stellar. Kind of sad to step into the town and see real stylish and expressive 2D portrait art, represented by the most basic, faceless, minimally textured, basic 3D models.
At the very least the player 3D models and boss models look a lot better.
The game might not be nothing too outstanding, but it really excels at marrying its theme with its gameplay. I haven't really played another RPG that goes all in on music like this aside form say, the Ar Tonelico games (those are masterpieces unlike this game though).
But my hopes for People of Note is that the characters get more Songstone slots, allowing for lots of customization across the entire party. And for other regions of the game to be a bit more interesting. But the game is actually kind of solid.

For a FF6 ripoff it appears very well polished in the sea of SNES era JRPG knockoffs. The demo is appropriately paced with playable segments that serve as a hands-on tutorial for in-combat and out-of-combat mechanics without being a 1000 word manual, and the story doesn't vomit exposition at you, so you can clear it within 15-30 minutes without feeling like it drags on.
Only real gripe at the moment is that it mixes HD portraits/UI with pixel spritework.

Out of the games I tried that worked on my Linux machine, the ones I liked were these three, My Fav Chill Streamer Dies a Million Times, Voice of Nature, and Echo Isle.

9/10, excellent. I will keep playing demos for a few more days.

I still have 200 demos downloaded. I've played about 180 so far. Wishlisted ca 20.
Three times a year is perfect.

I was about to ask "did anyone else feel like Galaxyz Neo was an offline EoS version of a gacha game" but then I googled it and sure enough it's got a google app store listing.
I guess they must have realized in development that it wasn't the kind of thing anyone was going to whale in and just skipped to the single purchase model.

now that I think about it that's a most played cheat code.
even if the demo and servers remains up you have no guarantee it'll have enough players so you have to play it within the next fes period.
