Decades later, gun nerds on the internet started doing the same thing as a joke, but instead of a picture of a 3D woman, it would be a picture of whatever anime girl that they liked, as in "waifu". This ended up being a meme because it is so silly. I think it is very funny. Plus anime girls and guns make a good combination.
