The more I play NG+ the more I realize Nioh 3 is the smallest scope Nioh game if not Team Ninja game in years. RotR commercially bombing despite having clearly several times the project scope and budget has had drastic consequences. Team Ninja will never be afforded more than breadcrumbs if they don't know what to do with it.

Not the first time an open world title from Koei Tecmo wasn't well received, people didn't like how that turned out in Dynasty Warriors 9 either. Nioh 3's attempt was more well received not only because it's world was more compact, but also because it's designed better and is more chock full of life and content around every corner.

Same. You do come across a number of friendlies in each timeline, but for the most part they're spread thin with a few story related characters hanging around near each other, and a few masters here and there. As the DLCs get released, I'm hoping more permanent human NPCs will fill up the Eternal Rift at least, all we got in there right now is Toyo, the Tea Guy, and the Dung Lover.

Nioh 1 still has bad enemy variety but the encounter design makes up for it, spawning 3 enemies at once sometimes and then locking you up, they really need more of that in 3.

Yeah i had to adjust a bit with my style. These dont have as much bullshit as i remember it, but they can really get to you in some of those long stages or when they add a bunch of cannon skeletons and stuff. I think in general 3 is also not optimized for the jump mechanic gameplay wise but it did add more freedom in how you do certain stuff. Some levels in 1 and 2 were really cryptic also, proper oldschool.
If you add a jump in 1/2 locking up would be much less of an issue. Its too OP.

From my experience it does work, at least the divine affix for it. The thing is that it's not really worth it right now unless you want more immediate (On Life Recovery) buffs, we don't hit hard enough for the lifesteal to let us health-gate in ways Amrita couldn't do. It does work on all weapon attacks, quick/light/martial arts.

66.2% with Fujiwara + Purifying Presence + Mysterious of Summoning, you can't roll this on armor pieces/accessories so I hope you weren't planning on using any of the 1x boss seals like the Demon of Pride, Hiruko, Bloodedge Demon or Ibaraki Doji unless you wanted to sack fast magic (and unlock a realm of infinite suffering). Why is it a 9 cost mastery option? Why does Onmyo have 3 masteries all tied up to itself? Why can't all boss cores start at 2x instead of this weird dichotomy? Why can't we set 2 soul cores per form? Yorimitsu and Kagetoki certainly had more than just 2 summons in their fights.
>DMG boosts
None work besides elemental damage on the elemental damage of seals. This includes the melee DMG vs poisoned if you ever thought Kyuzuryu was ever tested beyond a Sincere Buddha buildSoon TMand even ATK Mastery for the most base of damage boosts. Despite scaling with weapon dmg, Attack Bonus (stat) doesn't work because fuck you. Debuffs do work like Weakness Talismans so there's that to really help throttle their damage (don't look at Hellshock's DMG).
>Wandering Shrine's final bonus
Cringe it doesn't work with Barrier talismans but you can buy infinite stock of the waters from Rift Sudama for 400 a pop, when enemies drop thousands before items. This triples your seal's ki dmg from what I can tell, further stacks with Berserk from Nuppeppo which is actually pretty cool for a high risk/reward setup alongside Wind. Note Berserk doesn't boost your spell damage while Carnage does but does stack with it for melee if you're ballsy.
>Affixes
So your armor doesn't matter and your weapon barely does for spells. Accumulation increase is the best we got, can't even put generic elemental damage on them, maybe spirit focus affix is decent if you've good GS skills. Nothing for seals.

The game locked out the Demon of Pride arena on my new save, I was in a solo expedition at the time to level sync it. I went there as early as possible, died once, came back and there's black, swirly fog blocking the entrance as if I were a visitor waiting for the host to start the fight. It probably uses the same logic as the master fights but there's a strange exception because the demons spawn by proximity instead of talking to an NPC. That is a fucked up soft lock though, I know I can just skip it and grab the skill on NG+ but now there's a possibility more things will break in solo expeditions, I'm just going to put the game down for now with how buggy it is.

I just did it again recently and basically she's way easier to beat if you spend ninjutsu points on anti paralysis pills and have some lightning onmyo, and just play super defensively. Enenra or the fucking snake weren't easier in 2 I think.
Nioh 1 gets easier once you have enough base stats for decent HP and Ki/Ki pulsing.

Launch is always like this, the games always add new difficulty levels that fully revamp things alongside the expansions. I've been playing Nioh since the very first alpha of 1, I wonder if some of you guys are used to playing them when they launched on PC after they got all their expansions. They did a simultaneous console+PC releases this time which is a first for the series. The only thing I will say is that it sucks that there's no twilight missions.

It is much more likely and more fun that everyone comes back on dlc day. Can I please just become a demon? I don't care about whatever bad ending Yokai Itemistu gives because this complete failure needs help, a lot of help, more help than me and I see leashes as a wedding ring worn on the neck. If anyone has got advice, let me know because from my testing on combat scenarios in NG+ it is completely unsatisfying (at best decent burst down a 1v1 because of the onmyo spells you're still using here, seals bully humans on ninjas?).

Every step in this grace is pain and suffering, multi-second long animations of no dodging that it expects you to do continuously with no worthwhile animation cancels. Seals are sluggish because of the 3 second delay for the attack + 2 second cooldown after its done. Sacred Waters are sluggish because of the casting animation you can't speed up even with Guardian Spirit animation cancels (go through 80% of it to get the buff). All of which while accounting the need for positioning just so your seal isn't wasted. Permanent Lightning/Sloth helps with all of this but you don't start missions with full ninja and you want to wait for dark realm to dump onmyo spells so the confusion might last. And this frame data means even trying to splash this as "Sam Ninjitsu" for ki-regen is folly.
>Quality/Quantity
Either you get too little to work with that even a NINE cost mastery + 60% untouched doesn't fix, or trying to empty it out isn't worth it because of the extreme whiff potential they have and long delays in every step of casting them.
>Advice
Otorashi and Onmoraki are the best for this if you hate yourself. Both have easy positioning requirements (ranged/flying), former is solid lingering ki DMG while the latter is Poison application so your hatchets can do more damage when trying to play the range game this can't fucking support. Alternatively just use go for some Kato+ Ninjitsu build and never look back.
At least I can say hatchets are cool after using them.

Got some sets so here's some numbers
>Himiko's set
DMG buff is 10% like the others and the ki regen I think is around the 15% mark? Hard to eye it but I wouldn't be shocked if it was the same as the other ki-regen boosts. Really good set to splash a grace on for ninja, main weakness is that you aren't getting a boost on top of the amrita DMG boost but easy ki-regen on ninja's nice as can the little extra damage/status (7%-ish on 99 Magic) for the guardian spirit skill if you lean on it.
>Shock Troops
Prepare to be disappointed. The agility is about 2.5% more damage even with a light helmet because this is medium armor and no, 99 STA won't let you have A Agility. Now for the enhanced bonus. It seems to be over 1% per enhancement you have (I got 2.8% more damage on two on-amrita buffs, elemental weapon is considered a buff).

So baseline is over 20% when you have Stealth from the title, what about adding on more stealth from your gun and accessory? AA Stealth is a nice 25% more damage, and technically you could get more stealth as I didn't max the familiarity on my bow, just baseline with the accessory (2 c- stealth boosts). Think I found what I'll do for a hatchet build because fuck Kuzuryu with Date's Infinite Living Weapon Hat.

This boosts most instances of elemental damage, sadly I can't find too much a rhyme or reason onto what this fucking himbo works with but here goes. First some numbers because he only deals with BIG NUMBERS. The elemental boost? 125% to both damage and accumulation, 553 goes to 1249. The spirit force cost? Also a lot, typically 25% of your bar but that's if its boosting a big number versus something smaller. Shami-choro's light GS skill had a 50% price increase, Tengen Kujuku was almost the entire bar, but elemental weapon was much less in comparison. And yes, you need to pay the spirit force to actually get the boost, can't commit tax fraud.
>Doesn't work with
Hellspark Talisman/Thunderous Calamity (either bug or just the cost too damn high for 129.5 to pay out), heavy guardian spirit skills, even if they have a physical component to it, and summoning seals (because fuck you). Paralysis/Poison aren't counted as elements so no accumulation there.
>What it does boost
The splash from imbue weapon/talismans/shadowclad/tengen/elemental martial arts work. So do light guardian spirit attacks even if they don't have a physical damage component. There's also the other onmyo spells like Thunderbolt, hellfire, hellgust, and both parts of the familiars (the contact damage, which brings you back to Nioh 2 accumulation, and the heavy attack, where 4 boosted balls equates to Hellspark but requires nigh a full bar of spirit force to do). Lastly Ninjitsu. Shadow arts that isn't Thunderous Calamity (uncanny bolt works) get boosted with glacial calamity being pretty efficient (quarter of a bar instead of half like the others). Also applies to all fiery explosions (fire shurikens, biggest bomb, shrapnel bombs), with smaller explosions asking for less while big bomb is spirit force hungry.

It does the damage boosting while in Living Artifact, AT NO COST (this means 125% more magic/ninjitsu damage with free boosted guardian skills on the side). So if there's ever a Living Artifact build, good shot this is the place to look at even if it doesn't help you get there (and the best way to get there is mostly through samurai abusing the charge amrita gauge on guardian skill hit + Guhin's multi-hit beauty).

Underworld are 108 set dungeon floors and bosses, depths are after that. Depths have the first 5 floors change daily, the next 25 floors are random every time you go in. After floor 10 your boss fights are two bosses one after the other, after floor 20 its three bosses in a row. In the underworld you can get the orange graces to drop, and some Grace's can only drop on certain numbered floors.

Almost finished with NG+ now and my thoughts are settling after playing the game for quite a bit
Nioh 1 with all DLC = 8.5-9/10
Nioh 2 with all DLC = 9.5-10/10
Nioh 3 with no DLC = 7.5-8/10
So I really hope the DLC doesn't pull any punches. I still like the game, it's very fun and there's lots of cool new stuff, but compared to the other games post DLC it's not as good.

It's Spirit Ascension, from my understanding it's a flat amount per GS hit so multi-hit ones go really well. Murakumo for a ninja one is also not half bad even if a bit pricy/too slow to brute counter (tragically).

He's complaining about the blurry picture, which you can fix somewhat with more res and sharpening and changing DLSS presets, contrast issues are a different thing, and yeah it's a bit fucked, the biggest issue is the crushed blacks, in SDR the best thing I've found is increasing the brightness a bit to around 55-60, but that'll reduce the overall contrast a bit.
in HDR mode you can tweak more settings there, and I found something that works for my strobed Oled and it fixes the crushed blacks without killing the contrast so that's the best way I found to fix it. There's renoDX's mod too which should be even better but I can't use it.
Honestly on a good hdr tv with the draw distance mod and dlss 4.5 it looks pretty good, works on my machine. Someone still need mod the game to reduce the anti soul gas a little bit, even Nioh 2 needed it and did get a mod for this.

Probably, happened to me when I switched from the 8bitdo Pro 2 to the Ultimate 2, actually, so I think something about Xbox ergonomics just makes it easier to grip too hard. So I taught myself to not do it to not ruin the sticks. The first game I used it on was Ninja Gaiden 4, so the game being intense probably doesn't help getting used to being more gentle.

Drops I think is decently find, it's like a kappa but scaled for NG+ (in that it drops divines), I have gotten a yasakani from one before. Got no clue on why I consistently get a random batch of level 11 weapons (challenge runners?). I also just wanted to fight one for the sake of stress testing my Swallowtail build (was fine, not too squishy and the onmyo was able to burst him down a bit after the half-way mark). Do hope they maybe place one on a battle scroll so that it's not a goose egg chase that you have to exit missions for.
Also for funny things on those more in-tuned with ki-DMG. Sam Murakumo could be something to look at, he extends your buffs when you final blow. If you can break shins consistently enough than this can be a way to have infinite uptime on buffs, also consider you could do it on Ninja if easier before style shifting to Sam to keep Ninja buffs active.

Odd choice to put final blow buffs on the samurai guardian spirit when the grapple damage skills are on ninja. I don't remember if those final blows on knocked down human bosses count as a grapple but if it does you could abuse constant knockdown parries and spear leg sweeps to make the most out of that.

Its a single player game and many people in the thread are at the end game farming to fill in the corners of their builds, just the cycle. Once the first DLC comes out the thread will come back for a month or two while everyone works through it, update builds, and farms.

Welcome to attack bonus (stat), it's a healthy bonus to things when the stat's 99 (and I'd argue probably beats your crucible weapon martial arts dmg if you have other sources of it). Also 2% life steal looks questionable, experience is mainly on faster weapons but even on a build wanting to go for big healing, amrita absorb has done so much more even if delayed (unless the idea was fast procs on the (on Life Recovery) effects, then fair enough).

I've got a bunch of ideas for builds themed around respective spirit guardians. Nothing optimal that requires grinding but it will encourage me to use different weapons, elements and ninja weapons with other skills than what I am used to so I'll probably have reason to play the game for a while. Actually, the axe's attack was already higher than the odachi's before the attack bonus magic. That was the point of the post, so that's a whoops on my part
As an aside, the attack bonus magic seems to be bugged: either it doesn't work at all or actually reduces the attack of all my weapons while I have the axe equipped. The displayed attack on my stats screen is lower for both my weapons than their displayed attack on the equipment screen. When I unequip the axe the stat screen attack comes up to match the equipment screen attack.

I was a massive Kusarigama fan in 2. Really fell in love with the entire moveset. It was the first Ninja weapon I chose in 3. I miss my 3 stances and having actual choices in active skills. Why is Deadly Mark on "quick then heavy"? It is a gap closer. I shouldnt need to waste time and ki on a move that will miss. It also shares the slot with Tangle Strike and Retreating Strike - 2 moves that I liked to use after Deadly Mark.

A note to add to your fantastic write up. Fire Calamity will chew through the Spirit Force bar with the AoE DoT it leaves behind. I swapped it for Fire Shuriken. It does great damage with the buff, regens fast, and causes Burn quickly for Confusion purposes.

All debuffs. If there's a red icon around the enemy's health bar, it can extend it.
It's incredibly broken with calamity ninjutsu arts and onmyo, since you can easily stack all 4 elements and keep them near permanently on the enemy. The only issue is when bosses go into the yokai realm since that removes all debuffs from them.

It reminds me of my Nioh 2 Ninjutsu build. I had Sloth, Defense Down, and Blind on Ninjutsu hit and would use the Caltrop Bombs and Hell feathers with the recharging Ninjutsu. All those debuffs were basically permanent because of how easy Caltrop Bombs were to hit. It was pretty fun. Lilac could be as fun too, I assume. Would be fun to mix Onmyo and Ninjutsu and swap to Sam. Seems like a good way to make use of both entire kits.
