The only better way would be convincing the humans to work willingly through being nice and not killing a bunch of people, but most toys are too innately crazy for that.

>As someone who dabbles in fanfic and is still currently writing something off and on, my brain could not help but mesh the two. So this is something I needed to get out of my system.

Here's a rough outline of how I think such a crossover might work.

I'd mess with a timelines of both a bit, moving the events of Poppy Playtime delayed a few years, primarily because I'd like to think that before working at Playtime Co, Harley Sawyer would get picked up by Umbrella. I'd also like to think he'd wind up getting along very well with the likes of William Birkin and Albert Wesker. Before the Racoon city disaster, they'd move to jump ship and pursue their own agendas, and in a bid to lie low to avoid retribution for his role in the atrocities Umbrella committed (Let's face it, you KNOW he would have had a hand in that shit), Sawyer would accept a role at Playtime Co.

Years pass, the Hour of Joy still happens, but instead of a former employee coming to visit the factory, it's Wesker, curious about Sawyer and whether there's anything he might've left behind that might be useful and to figure out why a toy company would need a neurosurgeon. He finds Sawyer, who then introduces him to the Prototype and after some tense moments and explanations, a bargain is struck and resources begin to be pooled. Playtime Co is rebuilt and revitalized as another cover for new horrors.

Now we have the background for a crossover story.

I do think it's funny that two big horror mascot ip's both decided that a jack in the box that can move is the most terrifying thing ever.

If I had to choose one over the other the one from fnaf is more interesting since it tears itself free from it's own box to chase the player while the prototype has spider legs, which while neat and reminds me of the toys cid mutilated in toy story 1, it's still a jack in the box with spider legs. Here's a headcanon I hope gets proven true in 6: the Prototype's face looks like that because of an accident during his creation. The black eyes were supposed to be line-shaped or oval-shaped like Earthbound characters, and his mouth was smaller and movable; basically the face of a standard fabric jack-in-the-box, but with an open mouth so he could breathe.

However, since he was still a prototype, Oliver spent too long in the Poppy Gel (or there were just unintended effects), and his teeth grew too long, prying his mouth open, his red nose fell off, and his eye sockets became too large, causing one to fall out. Elliot rushes to get him out of the vat, but Ollie immediately resents him for not stopping things sooner and assumes he just didn't care enough, and soon after that is when we get their conversation tape.

Personally I see Chapter 5 as a continuation/expansion of Chapter 4's darkest hour to give it more personal weight to the player and make it feel like the beginning of a descent, rather than discrediting it; powerlessness is a theme throughout with losing your GrabPack, constant chases taking fate out of your control, being trapped by Lily and the Prototype, Huggy having no control in his memories, and in the end the Prototype ignores your attempts to fight back and things end as badly as they can possibly get, with Poppy not just missing but maimed and captured, Kissy likely dead or at least incapacitated, and you nearly dead and possibly infected with Poppy Gel cancer. However, now we also have a way out of the darkest hour with Giblet, Sawyer and the Negation Formula, which Chapter 6 can now entirely focus on.
