I was just testing it out, because Gun Geist is top-tier late-game. But That's despite two of her abilities being basically worthless at that point (bomb and suck). Spirit Geist synergizes more with her kit overall, and still deals pretty ridiculous damage, and has much more self-heal. I like the game, but the deadlock roster feels kinda anemic so far compared to Dota 2.
Not design wise, that's great, but mechanically and in terms of their kits.
Like In Dota, as soon as the draft is done and yo use the enemy team, you just know that the game will have to be played a certain way, your build will probably be nothing like the last game and you're going through niche mechanical interactions that only apply to this specific 5v5 scenario. What characters are in a match is actually transformative and changes how you play.
But Deadlock feels like it lacks this.
Everyone is this vague hypermobile blob of damage and either their number is bigger than yours and they beam you down or you do.
And the kits pretty much all just come down to hovering mouse over enemy and clicking your buttons off cooldown.

Deadlock characters are severely lacking in the rule-breaking kind of design ideas like dota heroes have that create unique gameplay scenarios.

Maybe it's just that the game is early and the roster is small and Valve added the more straightforward characters first. But it's kinda samey once novelty wears off. Characters like doorman are a good step in the right direction, but I really hope Icefrog can do more with the 3d space than smite heroes from 2015.

yeah 1 is a little hard to hit. if you struggle with it, using expansion on pain battery instead of aura isn't a bad idea. your early damage/survival relies a lot on it
you want to use 3 a few seconds before the fights start to scale up the damage. if the enemies run away from you, turn it off to stop the ticking so you don't kill yourself. if they come back, turn it on

builds depend on how you play the character except some good core items that you'll build regardless, you can't just see a build and run it without knowing how that person is playing, it's the diference between staying behind cover and spamming abilities on cooldown or gunning people down from rooftops, you might have more success with a supposedly less meta build if it works more with how you play

In dota 2 you have a behaviour score that goes up to 12k iirc. the more games you play without getting reported the higher it goes, the more you get reported or abandon games and grief the lower it gets.

you get matched with people of similar behavior score as you, so if you have a low behavior score you will be matched with the most vile stereotypical MOBA players you can imagine. if you have high behavior score you get matched with other players with high behavior score so it's a lot less likely for you to be matched with a griefer.

Do you seriously think that Apollo or Celeste take any amount of skill to play? Their hitboxes on all skills are so generous, the cooldowns are all so low, all of their skills have like 2-3 extra passives tacked on to them. Celeste gets free spirit lifesteal and a massive shield that punishes you for breaking it, she's completely and totally overpowered and has been first pick/ban in many of the higher skill games.
