Thinking about giving it a shot again because I got premium and get Terran Armada for free. How many modders still mod for this game? Are almost all mods around launch broken?

guys, I’ve been out of the loop for a while. My newsletter told me that Starfield is coming to PS5, and there’s both a new free update and a new story DLC. I was taken aback by this.

That said, my original save file is borked, it takes too long to load and some of the moon locations are like wedged into the sun or are way out in space, so I can’t really access them anymore. This is also my completionist NG+10 universe, so I’d rather not jump to a new universe, even though I know it’d fix everything.

How many people will still be playing Starfield in 10 years?
>>
>>563265645
A lot more especially if it keeps getting patches and DLC.
>>

>>
>>
>>563266643
That’s to be expected. I wanted more Starborn stuff, but a secret army of robots from earth is lame.
>>
>>563262604
>it could be a disaster especially if the eso lore guy is in charge.
I honestly think that would be better than a pure Todd/Emil team. ESO has done a lot of stupid shit over the years but its also been willing to play with the weird, fun parts of the setting that Todd doesn't give a shit about, so they could offer him some much needed pushback when he inevitably tries to water everything down into a generic sludge.
>>
>>563267408
>the most generic MMO “lore” slop
>fun
ESO is a blight on TES’s world building. The fact they recycled Skyrim’s story for Elswyer is a joke.
Emil is a mixed bag, but he didn’t touch the MQ for Starfield, he only handled faction quests like the Crimson Fleet, which is the strongest part of the game.
>>
>>563267798
The sad fact is that they're all blights, there's no one left at the company that isn't going to botch the setting so its just a question of which method of botching you find least awful. I'd rather have ESO's questionable depictions than Todd just chopping things out left and right.
>>
>>563269610
Todd Howard was right at the end of the day. Elder scrolls stood out amongst a glut of generic fantasy games when it first came out but pivoting to generic fantasy on the height of Lord of the rings was a brilliant decision and why elder scrolls sold so many copies. In the end TESVI will have a more generic fantasy on the forefront because people havent gotten a good fantasy game in ages while putting the weirder lore in the background for the TES nerds.
>>
Can I not fast travel to a free lanes destination like I can a planet? Flying to it is boring.
It reminds me of running to a POI back when Starfield just launched.

At the time when he left the gaming industry was looking a whole lot healthier, now with all the flops incoming I really doubt that these EX AAA devs can make any real good games that would survive. Staying at bethesda would be a whole lot secure in terms of job security compared to making more outside of it.

pretty interesting read. it seems that a lot of nu-thesda's problems come from the fact that todd & co. don't have ENOUGH control, and that they're mainly being forced to work with middle managers instead of the devs to cater to modern AAA needs

>>
>>563271708
Todd Howard did say they couldnt find the fun in Starfield until much later. I do agree that it's better to push the game out and to improve it once you have players zone in on the biggest issues like with the freelanes update. As long as they keep updating and improving upon the game with player feedback, they can make something really special over time. Player feedback is key to great games now.

CD feels like the kinda game you'll come back to a year later and it'll have everything fixed up. The devs seem to be trying to change everything without proper testing so it'll take a while before things stabilize.
>>
>>563272472

>>
>>563272003
i doubt todd has been involved with starfield outside of a zoom call where he nods since 2023, aside from being a talking face repeating talking points he gets from the skeleton crew working on the game. he has the fallout TV show, TES6 and FO5 to keep him plenty busy.
>>
>>563272436
yeah but its not a real char creator. its just like using NPC faces as presets
>>
>>563272610
the game didn't ship in a complete state and it's obvious they're just working thru the backlog. the feedback being "listened" to is just the fact that the most egregious features are also things high up in the backlog.
>>563272472
i'm a fomo retard so i had to play it at launch, but if you care about having the best experience this is the way. that said the game just has a fundemental lack of actual narrative content (and meaningful side content in general) so depending if you like your open world games being narrative driven or not, CD either is or isnt for you

Dropped the game after release back in 2023, I basically only focused on the main quest, then did a buch of NG+ to upgrade my powers before burning out.
Coming back to it and basically ignoring the constellation stuff actually is way more enjoyable this time around (started from scratch on a new save).
I maxed out the difficulty options which really make it more fun desu, although i wish fuel was an actual thing (i'm cautious about using mods/creations), and I wish there was a way to completely disable fast-travel (even to quickly leave the ship).

I don't really mind the quick flashes to black when entering a building, but I really wish they would have made a better attempt at masking the transitions when landing/taking off from planets. Or gravity driving.
I'd like to be able to keep walking around my ship even whilst landing and grav-jumping, just to help immersion.
It's not a dealbreaker for me, but it would definitely make it nicer.

Sidenote, is it possible to upgrade the Starborn powers before you enter the unity? I don't really want to do NG+ this time around, but I'd still like to eventually upgrade all the powers.
>>
>>563275113
Seems like you need to at least jump once before being able to upgrade powers with Starbornium Cum.
>>
>>563275113
Look up a mod called Revelation, I think that will give you what you want, but the new Starborn power upgrade system (combining powers and so on) is only accessible in NG+

>>
>>563275616
There are two different systems. You can upgrade your powers like you're used to from NG+ without doing NG+, but there is a new set of modifiers you can do powers now. To access that, you need to do NG+.

Sadly it does. The result of not forcing a limit on the player means saves get bloated the more you explore and grab items, and it's a lot worse for Starfield with all the locations you can generate. Bethesda really needs to implement a means to delete locations you're not going to go back to, though there is a mod that can do that, but I think it's still largely experimental.

Hi, I personally recommend you stick to your character, and then speedrun to NG+10, at least. This way, you will experience the following by the time you jump 10 universes:

>each New Game Plus (NG+) iteration up to NG+10 increases the difficulty by making enemies deal roughly 10% more damage and take less damage from you, stacking to a total of +100% incoming damage and reduced damage output by NG+10.

This makes ground combat more rewarding, since you’ll have an excuse to use your Starborn powers. That said, it makes ship combat a pain in the ass and essentially insta-death, there’s no way to fix this except to go to the settings menu and lower enemy ship dmg to the lowest.
>>
>>563281949

Try relaunching the game and see if that helps. Things can sometimes have issue rendering properly if you freshly installed a mod from the Creation Club and didn't restart the game. Might be a good idea to restart your computer to clear corrupt data out of your ram, or even delete pipeline.cache so it can regenerate.
>>
>>563281985
I’m more worried about collateral damage. Fortunately for my character, he doesn’t care about it in the slightest, as long as it gets the job done.
Btw, anyone else feels like being an asshole is much more rewarding in Starfield than any other game? Too bad being a criminal doesn’t pay much to justify the ridiculous bounties, it’s like Bethesda hard-nerfed it because it was too easy to get rich during playtesting.

That's the addon that makes them all cyberpunk rejects. The base mod is very vanilla-y and fixes the abominations. Just don't pay for it, you can find it online. Souls of Cities works for me but you start seeing repeat NPCs after running around a lot, the Better Crowd Citizens modder even says that it does the fix better than his.
>>
>>563309949
They became the defacto standard by acting totally differently, and then once that standard was in place they changed. That has happened many times online unfortunately. Everyone wants to "don't be evil" until they're in a position of influence. There has also been a serious and coordinated effort to capture the commanding heights of the internet's culture, which are moderator spots on various chokepoints. It's why trannies are not even 1% of the population but over half the moderators on reddit, hugely overrepresented as wiki editors, etc. They do everything they can to spread out and capture the things in their orbit while normal people just go along to get along, which inevitably results in a level of control that lets them push and preserve mental illness. Even happens here.

I think most of the people here would. Broader population, who knows. But most players don't actually engage with mods to begin with, that's one of those things that seems more common than it is because of the sort of person you're usually talking to when you talk about games online. The more likely explanation is just a combination of most people not finishing games, and Steam taking a few days to begin showing real stats. I've noticed many times that all my achievements get the ultra rare border on Steam for a new release for a few days because everything is at 0.

They (somewhat) patched the legendary weapon farming exploit in which you freeze an enemy and then spam solar flare on them and quick saving just before they die.

Now, the weapon and legendary rank are fixed, but the attributes are rerolled every time. This is a good thing if it’s a weapon you want, a bad thing if it’s a weapon you don’t care for.

It could have been interesting, but it's failed by the writing and the presentation. It doesn't mean anything to leave all of my life choices behind in a game where those choices never really happened. To my knowledge I don't even have to choose between the Vanguard and the Rangers despite both being part of militarily opposed entities. Does it make me choose between Vanguard and Crimson Fleet? Sarah doesn't love me anymore but it takes nothing to undo that. The only real choice is a disguised choice on who dies, which I have to manipulate to make sure it's always black faggot and not somebody important. If you want to ask deep questions you need the writing and the presentation layer to support it, not a guy who plays Madden as your head writer delivered by characters that just stand still.

It's alright, they fixed many of my gripes like lack of interesting POIs and boring space travel. But my biggest issue with the ship builder still stands and i wonder if somebody made a mod for that. The useless structures. Right now structures, except those that add attachment points of course, are just dead weight.

That pisses me off because building a good looking ship is objectively worse than one without covering structures. Is there a mod that makes structures weightless or even adds any benefits? For example all those cosmetic "thrusters" don't do jack shit.

Another thing is previewing habs(rooms) before installing them. You either have to already know what they look like, run back and forth between the builder and your ship or install completely empty ones and decorate them yourself. All dogshit options imo.
>>
>>563314367
While a neat and perhaps novel way to do NG+, it actively prevented roleplayers like me from using the feature for my main character. Also like the other anon said the lack of consequences for choices in Starfield really detracts from it. Like they're trying to make the feature appeal to multiple groups and it has the opposite effect
>>
>>563314870
I like building ships, but yeah I definitely need a way to preview and control the interior while I'm building it. It's very difficult or impossible to know how modules will connect and what is being deleted in that module by the connection. There is or was a mod that gave you some manual control over the connections between modules, but it should be a vanilla feature.
>>
>>563314870
>Is there a mod that makes structures weightless or even adds any benefits?
Don't know about that specifically but you there are mods that multiply the power of engines and thrusters so you can make ginormous fat ships without a care. They also added, in the latest update, an upgrade that lets you have two reactors if you want to keep it mod free/vanilla/not-cheating
>Another thing is previewing habs(rooms) before installing them
I know there's a mod for that but haven't tried it myself. Once you have a great ship on the outside I don't see anything wrong with decorating it, it's basically your house/settlement.
>>
>>563315913
>They also added, in the latest update, an upgrade that lets you have two reactors if you want to keep it mod free/vanilla/not-cheating.
Is that something i have to unlock? Because right now i can only have one proper reactor. I can add a couple of those smaller ones for 1 power each but that's it.

What i want to do is build a gunship that looks like a large jet. One of those 3x habs, a small cockpit, cover ugly spots with cowling and place all the weapons on or below the "wings" but building those wings, cowlings and fins basically kills the project because they are dead weight. Which means i have to use a bigger reactor and that makes the ship too bulky.

And i kinda don't want to decorate the ship myself because i have no idea what looks good, or even what i want, until i see it and i can already see hours going down the drain just figuring that out. I'd rather scroll through rooms that already look good and pick what looks best.
>>
>>563314597

>>563314597

The safest one is a paid mod called Tiny Reasons to Explore Space, but that limits you to exploring destroyed space stations and asteroids. ZSW Airlocks is free one that allows you to place hatches for you to exit through and fly around in space, but it ends up activating Zero G in your entire ship, which can cause a mess because everything that isn't static ends up floating around.

It's not really a measure of anything. It uses language that sounds authoritative but doesn't actually mean anything, which is a common journo trick. What does it mean to be "filled" with issues? It evokes an idea in your head, but it doesn't actually have any real meaning. I've played a lot of games end to end with no trouble that are supposedly "filled" with issues, especially these last ten years as journos have done this more and more.

It "failed", how, by what measure? You'll often see games that turned a profit and for whom the producer of the game is on a shareholder call saying they're satisfied with performance and then you'll see some guy who works as an electronic entertainment gossip blogger assuring everybody it failed, who's right?

>>
>>563326415
Right, so pointless sentimentality. You'd have an argument if it was just polluted and COULD sustain life, then leaving it as it is would just be neglect, but as far as I remember grav drive mk1 was intentionally flawed to completely stop Earth's rotation or something like that, and fuck the planet forever so everyone would only have the option to leave.
>>
>>563326750
>pointless sentimentality
Human culture, memory. Nothing pointless about it. Earth is our home and it is absurd for it to be abandoned entirely in a setting where far more inhospitable places host life. If nothing else there should be a massive UC research drive to determine exactly what happened and how to prevent it from happening on Jemison. The idea that there are tens of thousands of grav drives out there and you're one malfunction or bad tune away from killing the planet is insanity.

>If nothing else there should be a massive UC research drive to determine exactly what happened
They know what happened, grav drive mk1 was flawed, the multitude of jumps performed in Earth's orbit as people made their exodus fucked it even worse than it already was. They fixed the flaw. The starborn who provided the schematics left the flaw in intentionally so that humanity would be forced to populate the stars, purely so he'd have more fun things to do out in space.
>>
>>563326954
That's correct. Landing is still the same as it always was. Cruise mode is just to replace when you would fast-travel from planet A to B within a star system and give you some random POIs along the way if you want.
>>
>>563327326
>They fixed the flaw.
Yes, but this is nonsense. It's great that they applied the macguffin valve to the drive, but you have tens of thousands of them out there and eventually that flaw will reemerge. That's just a mechanical reality.
>>

What pisses me off is that Aiza would have been a great antagonist. You could do the Mk.1 reveal about early halfway into the game, and show that our Aiza is dead but if you're not retarded you know that him talking to himself means that there is a Starborn Aiza out there. Specifically one who fucked with our universe because he is in it, or was in it in the future. Fighting the morally evil version of the guy you find who killed himself would have been a pretty cool reveal since he literally tricked himself and then most of humanity to death. Another interesting bit that I hope they get into is that this technically implies that Starborn was immortal. My belief is that killing them just sends them back to Unity and they have to go to a new universe now since it's random and there appears to be practically infinite number of universes. This would explain how Aiza is theoretically alive three centuries(ish) later.

What a waste.

What can they even do? Victor Aiza intentionally sabotaged the calculations of the first generation grav drives so that Earth’s magnetosphere gets affected, thus accelerating his fucked-up dream of humanity sprawling to the stars instead of taking it slow and just sticking to our own solar system.

Also, the UC was formed AFTER it was discovered (or rather, unclassified) by NASA that Earth is actually experiencing an apocalypse and humanity (whoever could afford it) had to evacuate fast.

If there's an infinite amount of Universes there's an infinite amount of possibility that one Starborn would step through the Unity and arrive at another Universe that has one or more Starborn in it. Just like with time travel there's various theories around it and we would have to know exactly which one Bethesda's writers are adhering to. From what we know and have in the game the Universes are, at the bare minimum, very much parallel and follow the same timeline (no time travel) and events unfold basically the same; so it's safe to assume that Person A will become a Starborn in basically every Universe unless an external force changes that.
What we can't safely assume, is that every other Starborn present in OUR Universe comes from another one, some of them could've found an Artifact just like we did and followed it the threads just like we did.

Last I checked, signing up for premium on Nexus gives you extra benefits, and absolutely nothing is locked behind a paywall. This is the most false equivalence you could have come up with.
>>
>>563340168
Nexus is a way for a middleman to extract value from somebody else's work on somebody else's IP. They've intentionally degraded service to the point that a free mega account is literally 20x faster than their paid premium service. It's pure rent seeking.

It also began all the behaviors you people lament. By doing the (miniscule) revenue sharing, they created the incentives that make mod authors such drama queens about permissions lawyering and asset reuse and so on now. It's not a labor of love when I make a cool thing and then you make a cool thing on top of it, it's money out of their pocket.

Journos are simply repeating whatever is the default statement the mainstream audience has accepted. What that statement is mostly has nothing to do with the actual intrinsic qualities of the product itself, and is more based on vibes.

"Cyberpunk is rotten to the core" is what I remember people saying about the game at launch to the point it was the general default statement about the game but normies love the game now despite nothing but surface level changes being made.

I think the same thing applies to how modern news cycles work. 90% of people, at least ones who spend significant time on social media live in a constant loop of being told what to think about X and then proceeding to follow that instruction. It's just extremely apparent when it comes to gaming discourse because the people involved are usually retarded teens, who share the critical thinking skills of the 60yo ranting about current news cycle politics.

There's lots of versions of paid mods in the world. The Bethesda model gives most of the money to the creator of the tools and IP, and some to the author in a pretty transparent way. The Patreon model gives some to the author in a pretty transparent way, none to the creator of the tools and IP, and is generally pretty hands off. The Nexus model gives some to the author in a really vague way that they routinely can't define, none to the creator of the tools and IP, and is generally very heavy handed. I'd rather it not exist at all, but if it's going to then one of these is clearly worse.
>>
The new forward momentum when you boost pack is really cool, combine that with sliding when you land you can almost get something going there.
Now that I think about it, wasn't there a mod that gave even smoother movement? I wonder if there's a mod that lets you jump/boost out of a slide
>>
>>563340623
Yes, but the mod authors chose to make their mods, and have Nexus host them, at no charge, which incurs costs. I have no problem with them having an option to provide you a better service if you pay, and using that money to subsidize the free users.
Do I like Nexus as it is now? No, I fucking don't. Was it leagues better years ago, before it was sold to a for-profit company? Yes, it was. But I can still go and download any mod they're hosting with a free account.
>>
>>563341132
Bethesda is probably the worst from a creator perspective, while Patreon is probably the worst from a user perspective. I say this because of it's subscription model and no limit to the price that an author can set to allow users to access their content, plus some authors might push for extra hoops to get access to their content in an attempt to fight piracy. With Bethesda, there's at least a $10 limit for Verified Creators, so you don't have to worry about getting overcharged. Bethesda might seem like the worst because at least with Patreon, you get access to everything an author has put out once you subscribe to them instead of having to individually pay for Creation Club mods, however unlike the permanent access with the Creation Club, you have to maintain your Patreon subscription to get access to future mods along with the updates to them too.
>>
>>563341940
The costs are hugely overestimated by people, and mostly comes from bloated staff rather than legitimate hosting fees. Not saying it's zero, but they sold for $20m+, it wasn't because they had a million in costs.

And it's not like Bethesda's platform forbids free mods, it's the same mods you want to upload for free that Nexus has, and then mods that would have been on patreon or just wouldn't exist. People make the assumption that every single paid mod would exist for free and in exactly the same form otherwise, but more likely they would be behind a patreon or just wouldn't exist. In that sense it's operating very similarly, just instead of a paid tier that subsidies a free tier and they both get screwed on speed, you have would-be patreon mods subsidizing everything else. Again, not my ideal world for modding, but it's not the originator or the worst expression of paid mods.

>>563343140
I could see it either way for an author. Patreon gives more latitude on pricing, Bethesda gives much better discoverability, and from what I've heard a better cut. Bethesda is also much more censored, so if your business is selling 16K Sarah Morgan anus textures you're sort of funneled out of it anyways.

For a user, patreon is pretty bad. The customer service is AI, and there's nothing really stopping you from subbing to something and then being told to join a discord and then being told you need to connect discord to your nexus account so they can purity test you (Community Shaders) and so on. It's the wild west.

Cyberpunks overhaul with 2.0 was a legit overhaul. The story was never problem, the quests weren't either. What was the problem from the start was the gameplay and performance (this includes bugs). They also adjusted some small things. That said, they're kinda lucky they fucked up so badly at the start. If the game had 2.0's performance, then we'd all be talking about what a letdown it still was due to the lack of a third chapter and cut content (they dropped the other careers for instance). Them timing Phantom Liberty with 2.0 was a stroke of genius because it fixed the game, and PL acts as a substitution to a third act given its placement in the MSQ.

NTA, but no it wasn't. Did they make changes? Sure. Did they make huge foundational design changes that would cause a person that hated the game to now love it? No. What really happened is it gave people an off-ramp to pretend like something changed so they could safely go from meme fagging to actually playing it.
>>

Which tells me...what? That some guy somewhere got an achievement in 2023. Not much else.

The game didn't fundamentally change. I played it at launch, I played it just recently, it's the same game. Some skills were renamed, moved around, but the biggest changes are infinity grenades and health items, and the change to the borderlands loot of the original. It's not substantial enough to justify the wild swing in opinion. It would be like some goofy faggot claiming he hated Starfield at launch but now that you can cruise it's a 9/10.

I'm not convinced focusing on the colony war or crusade would help much. War is inherently more interesting than what we got, sure, but Bethesda games kinda suck at war. They work best as smaller scale adventure/dungeon divers and need narratives supporting that, not "epic" conflicts that sound cool on paper but just give you awkwardly tiny battles in practice.

The post-treaty time period isn't inherently bad and could've been made plenty interesting. They just didn't, for whatever reason.

I haven't read the whole conversation, but the intro is the worst part of the game imo. It's just very obviously rushed with all the montage sequences to show you why you should care about your good buddy Jackie. There wasn't enough time spent with him in the story for his death to have the emotional impact it was supposed to on me. I enjoyed the rest of the game after that pretty well though. >>

>>563371301

>>
>>563371436
If I drag a mod to a separator to install it within the UI just stops responding entirely. When you double click a mod to install it there's a manual option i.e. to unselect a readme.txt, this now just opens windows explorer and also locks the UI. If you create a separator to contain the various bethesda creations, for whatever reason the tracker stuff is always sorted above it every time you close and reopen MO2. Probably some other stuff, I decided to just not chance it
>>
>>563371690
well, it is a beta after all. But it could also just be the new update not working well with MO2

>>
>>563375314
There are a ton of corporations in the game. The larger issue is that there are no people. Jemison is the capitol of the UC, and yet New Atlantis is the only thing on the entire planet (that isn't randomly generated). Paradiso's corpo gets into an argument with the generation ship because, despite occupying a whopping kilometer, they can't come to agreement as to where to land without the Paradiso corp trying to turn the generation ship inhabitants into indentured servants.
>>
is Starfield tech better or worse than Battlestar Galactica?
>>
>>563376040
>paradiso won't let them land on the other side of the planet because they might make the orbital photographs look ugly, because apparently even the most remote parts of the planet need to be pristine for a resort that occupies a microscopic spec of the planet to sell itself
>the colony ship won't accept having neighbors because they imagine they're going to use the WHOLE planet, despite having a population of maybe 100 inbreds who likely desperately need some new genetic material, and soon
whole questline is fucking stupid, I just blow them up to extinguish the life of the last genuine jew in the galaxy
>>
>>563376203
Depends on what side you're talking about. Humans? Starfield's tech blows BSG humanity out of the water. Destroyer size vessels are crewed by no more than 8 people. The level of automation there is absurd because it also applies to the manufacturing side of things. The shipyards are almost entirely automated, and can shit out vessels. Remember, the civilian fleet from the Freestar Alliance had enough numbers to overwhelm the UC, so basically even backwater rednecks can afford to own a fuckin' space ship.
>>
>>563376301
The colony ship guys are the only smart people in the game in terms in of correctly assessing human population growth, which is why humanity being so low pop in Starfield is nonsensical. Their giant war that they mutually agreed to ban certain tech only had like, tens of thousands of people die, and it was viewed as a major loss to their numbers. This is only explicable if humanity has a Children of Men tier success rate with conception.
>>
The spaceports are pretty stupid too, I'm the only ship there, it stays there forever, the path is right in front of my ship so the whole thing just feels very bumpkin even in major cities
>>
>>563376523
It didn't exactly overwhelm the UC according to Sanon. A bunch of commanders refused to engage civilians (even though they weren't civilians at that point but whatever), fucking up all their fleet formations and allowing them to get picked off.
>>
>>563376742
It's heavily implied that billions died with the Earth, as comparatively few people were able to leave, and that most of the galaxy's current population is actually independent and lives outside of the UC and FC.

>>
>>563377474
It's still two centuries. Two centuries at exponential growth due to tech and governmental directives for population restoration would have solved that so quickly. They are at the point that they can make clones of people in this setting. Jemison not being covered in cities (even if you can't visit them) is preposterous. I recognize for LUDONARRATIVE DISSONANCE that the cities must be small (in terms of exploration) but they need to be massive. Bethesda has the gall to call Akila a city when it's not even the size of a village from the 1400s.
>>
>>563376523
>Remember, the civilian fleet from the Freestar Alliance had enough numbers to overwhelm the UC
UC destroyed the FC navy in the Cheyenne system and were over Akila space, as in they held an entire planet under siege. It was then that the civilian ships came out in swarms, like bees protecting their nests, and while Sanon wanted to shoot down the civies, his commanders outright refused, even though UC ships were being downed and destroyed by civie attacks. Sanon then ordered a retreat, then the UC declared the war was over.

It’s like the Soviet Union storming Berlin and nearly planting their flag over the Reichstag, only to retreat when german civies came out and started pelting rocks at soldiers.
>>
>>563379134
Hey, I'm not saying it makes sense and isn't retarded. I'm saying that's their justification for the pitiful state of humanity in the setting.
Decades of making Elder Scrolls games, where cities can be small and still make some sense seem to have left Bethesda unable to make anything big. The way I see it, they should have taken the Witcher, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, among others, example and made a city that you can't fully explore, is 95% set dressing, but gives you a convincing illusion of being huge. But they're way too set in their ways to realize that what works in one setting may not work in another.
I mean, we're supposed to believe that a faction that hosts the majority of ship-building corporations won't even pave the streets of its capital, for fuck's sake.
>>
>>563379134
>>563379564
Not to mention all these places that are mentioned in dialogue as existing, but physically don't, such as the university that your character's father lectured at, if you took the Kid Stuff trait.
>>
>>563360745
The "main issue" was that the side quests were shit. Anyone who played W3 expected more. But this was never part of the complaints. The majority of players thought it was going to be a futuristic GTA or some kind of revolutonary RPG, neither of which applies to the current game. Nevertheless the biggest shills of the game had just finished watching the high budget anime/advert for the game when the big update dropped that didn't address none of the actual "main issues". Yet, public perception is mainly based around vibes, hype, recency bias, and nothing highlights that like a game being praised after a massive concerted advertising + surface level tweak campaign.

Don't get me wrong though, I always liked the game from day 1 when I played it. I aggressively disagree with anyone that claims the game was a "buggy mess" on PC. I don't know what it was on consoles but considering it was pulled from marketplaces, I can see how most of thet public perception is related to the console version being fixed.
>>
>>563379134
The problem is that the homesteading act and the pseudo-manifest destiny act enabled two things:

1. People can now freely set up settlements wherever they wish, meaning a significant portion of humanity is isolated. This can range from things like mining colonies, greenhouse farms, and research facilities, to things like Paradiso or The Red Mile, which are completely out of any federal jurisdiction whatsoever.
2. Led the way to factions like House Va’ruun and Freestar Collective. The former has totally isolated themselves, went on a religious crusade, calmed down, then went back into hiding before suffering from a huge calamity. The latter isn’t even a real government, it’s just four corporations in a trenchcoat with an even more dispersed population.

Both New Atlantis and Akila City should’ve been bigger, but I honestly do think humanity’s population has been reduced to slightly below our real world figure.
>>
>>563379789
The main difference between Cyberpunk and Starfield is that the latter came out of the box with excellent side quests, the former is just a whole bunch of derivative “go to X, do Y (stealth: optional)” and feel like filler.
>>
>>563380113
SF had maybe 2-3 good sidequests. The UC/FC joint mission, and the colony ship. CP77 was similar. The secret room house mission was good, but half of side quests in W3 were like that.
>>
>>563379564
I just pretend that Akila is a preserved historical site, and along with the rangers' silly cowboy shtick is part of a long term propaganda effort by the council to play up the rugged frontier vibes over the corpo dystopian reality.

Do you think at some point they were writing the Terrormorph questline and someone went "you know this is way better than our main questline that everyone's going to see"
>>
>>563383429
I think Terrormorphs were more integral to the main story in a previous script. The very first alien creature you see is a heatleech, and the very first dungeon you enter is a research lab on Kreet from the war focused on taming and weaponizing terrormorphs, which turned out to be a huge failure that killed everyone in the facility. Also, Terrormorphs have a chance to spawn outside Starborn temples, even on virgin planets with no human presence.
>>
>>563383429
to be fair side quests in bethesda games tend to be way better than the main story quests
>>
>>563383429
main quest is probably the weakest part of bethesda games in general, if you mean the nonsense timetravel shit. the research lab where you flip between realities is probably the only good thing about it. bethesda had the ingredients to make this probably their best narrative if they just went the distance and put out a giant UC vs FC DLC to finalize the story on what happened in the latest war between the 2. so much is left on the table. why did FC offer peace so easily and why were the terms so lenient. was londinum an inside job? if you think about the setting for even a little bit the FC starts to seem like controlled opposition.
>>
I have no idea how to play the game anymore, should I just restart?
>>
>>563385458
>>563384317

The MQ isn’t weak, what are you guys on about? It’s actually pretty solid, all things considered. It doesn’t handhold you and tell you what’s right or wrong, but rather asks an existential question about what kind of person you are, and if you’re willing to make peace with your past and leave everything behind.
>>
>>563385623
No, I suggest you continue on your character. I also forgot how to play and had to ease back into the controls and lore.
>>
>>563386173
that's fine if you're writing for high school drama class. the msq isnt really related to the setting. a great msq like FONV msq utilizes the full extent of the factions and the setting lore. the msq could easily have been framed around UC and FC and the various religions and minor proxy fractions
>>
>>563386173
I found the MQ fun once you start getting going but the first half was really dull. Going on a space cruise, negotiating something with ryujin in akila city, warping between two realities on that planet were really fun. I can see why people get turned off by the beginning too.

Are you in NG+10? Enemy damage is increased by +5% and player damage is decreased by -5% for each universe you skip, capping at 50% on NG+10.
This applies to both ground combat and ship combat. I suggest you go to the settings and lower enemy ship dmg to the lowest possible rank, it’s borked.
>>

Is all the stuff you can get on NG+ cycles documented in one place yet? I'm still on my first playthrough doing a lot of the major questlines and barely understand how anything works, I know they let you bring 50 items and your levels though
>>
>>563392437
ng+ is a meme. the items and powers you gain don't make up for the increased damage you receive, it just makes it incredibly unbalanced
>>

Now that powers can be upgraded using essence, there's little reason to go beyond NG+1.
You can always just increase the gameplay/difficulty options if you want increased damage etc.

this. I have never done it for a few reasons, I played at launch but skipped the msq and deliberately spoiled myself to see if it was worth my time. It would have been better if the whole Starborn thing did not exist, Constellation had MUCH better characters, and the MSQ involved Constellation going to various places to do various things (since the msq in this game is really Bethesda saying if you MUST have guidance on what to do in this game, do this)

its going to be cheaper and quicker to hunt for them, since x-tech allows you to reroll effects (and after 5 rerolls you can pick whatever you want if you did not get it), so x-tech allows you to find a good weapon and make it great cheaply, especially if you find good legendaries that are low quality level.

>>
>>563411784
well...
>>
>>563411216
Shattered Space is considered a Story Expansion while Terran Armada is considered a Story DLC. Chances are anything that Bethesda labels as a Story DLC means that is going to be a short story that's insignificant to the main plot much like the Trackers Alliance and Escape.

>>
I liked the congestion of Neon's main area. It made it feel busy.
>>
>>563433634
for a night club set in the worst city in the settled systems, it's weirdly inoffensive and safe. lore wise astral lounge is a den of upper class aurora junkies, while in the game bunch of aliens dance in the middle to the tune of mediocre edm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws0ufhrgWJw
cyberpunk did a much, much better job in that regard.
>>
>>563433209
>Astral Lounge
What were Bethesda trying to do there?
They showed the dancers off in the deep dive before the game was released, as if they were proud of them:
https://youtu.be/uMOPoAq5vIA?si=nDr5bJje_WZBBPFS&t=672
What was the plan, exactly?
I was expecting the dancers to change form if I consumed Aurora in there, but nah, no change.
>>
>>563433634
Like 90% of the people complaining about it expected it to be a full on strip club because they've never been to or even heard of a Go-Go Bar. That being said, the dancers should have had some sex appeal, and there should have been a stronger indication of drug use considering Aurora is basically MDMA. Mods have since fixed that though

Its not that it wasn't a strip club, its that the narrative treats it like a relatively sketchy place yet it goes so far in the opposite direction it feels jarring. Its kind of a misplaced joke, you're clearly supposed to have a giggle at the silly outfits, but it would've landed better in a different context, like making it a UC-approved club on NA that NPCs laugh at too.

>>563445319
the IP is made for millenials or gen X's mainly. it's referencing stuff like the running man and starship troopers. i think the 90s eurodance aesthetic is kind of apt in that sense, if that's what they were going for. besides i think the whole neon is sort of undercooked so this nightclub being sorta half assed doesnt really bother me. its just a scenery you run past without really stopping like most of neon sadly.
>>
The real problem is that Neon is obviously supposed to be planet Cyberpunk, just like you have planet Firefly and planet Federation, but then you have Night City right there to compare it with.
>>
>>563445087
It's less about the fact that he is clothed and more about the manner in which he is clothed. He looks extremely, extremely retarded. Like that other guy said, if this was a dancer at some UC-approved club in New Atlantis that NPC laugh at, that'd be fine. Plopping that retarded shit in Neon, in the Astral Lounge, is just... irritating.

They don't have to be strippers they just have to not look like retarded space jesters.
>>
>>563445087
That was how I interpreted it, but I also think that including such a thing is lame as the central experience of Neon that most players get. There's a better club called Euphorika in Ebbside that fits a bit better with the idea that most people have of "drug den". It made sense to me that the Astral Lounge is a somewhat sanitized and corporate-feeling bar because that's exactly what it is in the lore. I had the Kid Stuff trait on my first playthrough, and meeting your very WASPy boomer parents there felt like another indicator that the Astral Lounge was a place for wealthy and naive posers looking to blow money in a safe and controlled place, and I assumed there would be other places that sold aurora illicitly. That isn't really played up in the game, but seems to be what they were going for since you can encounter a lot more illegal activity in other parts of Neon through other quests.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkBGMqLIhuY

I can also see why they took this aurora-use animation out, even though it really would have helped give Neon that gritty gross feeling. They probably were worried it would too controversial having what looks exactly like a "fentanyl lean" with people recording black NPCs doing it or something.
>>
>>563446292
The problem with that is that Neon is more so a pleasure city built onto a fishing rig rather than an outright cyberpunk experience. It's got a cyberpunk core for sure, but it's more so a tourist trap like Las Vegas rather than a corporate dystopian body modification hellhole like you would expect from the cyberpunk genre.
>>
>>563447307
its a corporate bar. rich people that invite their board partners there don't want to see tits and ass, unless they request it so instead they're getting served some abstract art "performance" trendy shit. and for whatever reason 90s eurodance costumes are what's trendy with neon corpos.
>>
>>563448408
>its a corporate bar
It's not, it's just the best available revisionist head canon to try and reconcile how it's described vs. how it's portrayed.
>>
>>563436556
The key is to find where two or more biomes meet, land there, and then hunt around with the outpost beacon out to see what pops up in the to left corner HUD until you get everything in one spot. In my experience, it's way more difficult or almost impossible to do this with higher-tier resources, as they tend to span more within the core of the biome than the edges, and only really useful for the lower tier stuff spread across multiple biomes. IMO, you're better off focusing on a single resource family in one outpost once you have a starter base or two supplying you with the basic metals for outpost construction.

This guy explains the multiple-biomes thing well around 1:40
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKTjyx-1ES4
>>
I remember watching the Spider-Man cartoon on Fox back in the day. Spider-Man wasn't allowed to punch because they would be too mean and violent so he's always just swinging into people. Nobody could have a real gun because that would be too mean and violent so everyone has these stun lasers, even spandex Punisher. It's really comical to look back on, especially when you compare it to entertainment in the same format and genre that was running at the same time.

Anyways, that same mentality is Neon, whatever word you have for it. They wanted to do sleaze, but in a kind of schoolmarm, HOA, G rated kind of way. Neon is like one of those movies where all the swearing is edited. This is what happens when you meet a stranger in the alps, Larry.
>>
>>563448134
I think 100% that starfield should have been grittier and more mature, it's aimed at the dadgamer audiences after all, but I also can't see bethesda pulling it off. There's a very clear line that they don't cross when it comes to their themes, and you can tell that since Emil's a dad and his kids play his games that's affecting his judgement.

Also Neon is just another of those things about SF that's a bit too ambitious for its own good. A whole new asset library and art style, which is cool but you can tell how it's outsourced work and the budget wasn't there to take it all the way. I think it's the same with atlantis and why it feels off. The game would probably have been better off with more standardization when it comes to asset variety, even though that sounds negative but considering how much the locations struggle with scale I think it would have been warranted.
>>
So which parts of StarUI are functional right now and which aren't?
I know Inventory had a patch made by a third party and I've read about Ship Builder working fine, but I'm also using HUD, Workbench and Outpost. Any idea about those? If they aren't working, are there any replacements, currently?
>>
>>563448408
Like I said, them being *clothed* is fine. The absence of tits and ass is not the problem. The whole game is light on tits and ass.

They just shouldn't be fucking space jesters. If they wanted it to be an upscale corpobar they should have aimed for a more... "ethereal beauty" vibe. Instead some drag queen apparently smuggled the ugliest Rio Carnival costumes he could find off of the dying Earth, and corpos inxplicably decided what the Settled Systems really needed was a bar full of fat dudes wearing those.
>>
>>563449840
A lot of the shit I'm running into in cruise mode feel ripped right out of CP77 NCPD hustles with how fucked up some of them are. I love it. The edge is in the game but you really got to look for it.

It's the ultimate Bethesda game. The only major way it would be better is if it had the crazed worldbuilding of Morrowind, but as it stands it has the smooth ease of play of something like Skyrim or Fallout 4 with the sandbox of something like Daggerfall. In fact the non-combat skills are more useful than most of the non-combat skills in Daggerfall. I do wish it had VATS though, that's one thing I enjoyed in Bethesda Fallout games and I do miss it in Starfield

tracker's alliance is basically bethesda learning from the complaints about starfield's OG quests and massively improving it.

>Yet another UI mod
Its been two (2, dos) years since the game came out and people can't group under one project and just keep polishing it instead of forking/reinventing the SkyUI framework every month, why?
>>
Apparently the whole ship gets deleted during this scene? And then.. loaded back in? You can see the shadow of the docking ring with nothing behind it.

that one was the second quest next to the initial one i've done, and i'm hoping the others are as good cause so far it's worth the purchase.

Tracker Alliance and the side quests (NOT the main quest) from Terran Armada were written by Kris Takahashi, he's a Skyrim MA who eventually got hired and back in Skyrim had a pretty good reputation, a shame Bethesda leadership would never ever put "fresh" (dude is like 35 lmao) blood in charge of a main story or major faction

How feasible would it be to expand the POI pool with a mod? 'cause flying around getting in fights is fun but the fact that they're always happening in copy-pasted facilities is really silly. Outdoor bounty POI locations could be a really fun change of pace just because you'd have the surrounding terrain to work with.

I dont think anyone can make a beloved main story quest in a bethesda game because people will shit on them no matter what and everyone has completely different expectations on what they want out of the main story quest no matter how well written it is.
>>
Did they at least ad variations of the POIs? Or are we still finding hte same bodies and slates half way across the galaxy from each other?

>go to Shinar a few weeks after the exile ending
>expect a corpse with a sad note
>he's still fine
I'm getting him exonerated next time, clearly those colonists were idiots and deserved to die.
