I think that Baldur's Gate 1 is boring and shit, and I dislike the realtime with pause combat. Firstly SCS doesn't count, you can make any game "good" if you mod it and it still doesn't excuse the faults of real-time with pause combat, which dulls the strategic and mechanical complexity. (as combat manuevers and more complex spells that don't involve inflicting effects on enemies become hard or impossible to represent) But I'd argue that Baldur's Gate 1 has boring exploration in addition to bad combat, which is bizarre to me as it's praised for being a "explorefag" game, exploration functionally revolves around either dungeon crawling (which is fine) or fog of war-painting and killing gnolls (which is extremely boring and gay) and the latter is not helped by the poor quality combat as discussed before. I wonder if SCS has coated some people's imaginations as it turned even boring "getting through the tedious first 5 hour" fights like the early assassins into somewhat interesting combat encounters, but the tedium inherent in exploration still remains. Oh and before you start spraying clitty juice in thread my last playthrough lasted around 10 hours before I got bored and I got to around level 4-5, I did basically everything up to Chapter 2 but I don't really remember that much (bad sign)
Also Jaheira and Khalid are prove that Bluehair demoralization femdom sissification tactics were in full effect to try to spiritually castrate the male gamer even when you were a child, you were just too retarded to notice. Also this goes for BG2 as well, anybody who's played more than an hour of BG2 should realize Dragon Age: Veilguard was inevitable.
I'm wondering if maybe Icewind Dale 1/2 might be more enjoyable since I finished Planescape: Torment and really enjoyed it and didn't find the combat "that bad", especially in the first half. I'm just looking for something to fill the D&D shaped whole in my soul that isn't just replaying KOTC2: Augury of Chaos, ToEE or a Shitfinder.

Trannies are desperate for 4chan to hate the thing they see as stealing their fur porn patreon dollars. They know 4chan hates jeets. So they try desperately to associate thing they hate with thing you hate, in the hopes that you'll do what they want. Very transparent, but a lot of people here are very low IQ, so we'll see how it works out in the long run.

No, this /vg/ thread is neither high quality nor on-topic for CRPG discussion. Quick breakdown:
OP properly starts the official /crpgg/ ("Immanent edition") with a solid list of CRPGs (Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment, Disco Elysium, Underrail, Pathfinder, etc.), a recs image, and a question about CRPGs as “high literature.” Intent is perfect.
What actually happens: The ~40-post thread immediately derails into low-effort cuckold/romance spam. Most replies are “proud cuckold/cuckette” jokes listing companions (Shadowheart, Leliana, Morrigan, Camellia, etc.) from BG3, Dragon Age, Wrath of the Righteous, etc. Classic 4chan meme spiral with crude images.On-topic posts (rare): One names Torment, Disco Elysium, and Pentiment as best-written.
Brief debate on whether “immanent” is pretentious.
One short defense of CRPGs vs. porn games.
Why it fails: 80-90% off-topic meme spam. The cuck bit is only vaguely tied to romance options but adds zero analysis, mechanics talk, builds, lore, or recommendations.
No depth on story, design, modding, or upcoming titles.
Typical /vg/ general problem: one joke kills the signal-to-noise ratio.
Verdict: Failed /crpgg/. OP tried, but the thread died to the cuck meme. Skip it if you want actual CRPG discussion.
>>
>>563347601
That's low level DnD. You can just skip to BG2 where the combat becomes more involved. It's a direct sequel but they summarize everything important about the BG1 plot in a paragraph at the beginning for you. None of the Iron Throne stuff actually matters.

One typical tranny strategy is to simply use repetition - because trannies are very online, and typical hold membership in various off-site groups they can use to coordinate messaging, it's not uncommon to see trannies attempt to influence another group by simply flooding the zone with the message at all times. Some variant of "you hate jeet? well then thing I hate is jeet!" will be posted ad infinitum, at least until the tranny expires.

Too true.
>>563349461
As stated, as demonstrated. Trannies as a rule aren't very high IQ, that's how they became trannies. So you'll often see them getting "stuck" verbally when they become angry, like a certain other demographic best known for anger and low intelligence. Repetition is all they know. Implying a connection between thing they want you to hate and thing you already hate didn't work? Imply again. And again. And again. And again. And again.

Every good story has some kind of romance, because falling in love and spending your life with the person you're meant to be with is a fundamental part of the human experience. It's absurd to try and tell stories in CRPGs without it.

When people bring it up, it's usually them wanting to remove romance from RPGs or not liking romance or whatever. Pointing out that romance is a universal part of the human experience and it's empty to try and tell human stories without it engages with that just fine.

They’re actually criticizing you for being an obnoxious retard who only values these games and storytelling in general as a way to grind towards your self-insert getting a single line acknowledging that he got to breed with his empty boring waifu who of course isn’t allowed to have any kind of personality or character drama you’d actually find in romance
>>

None of this is true though, it's just a fantasy you conjured up so you'd have an excuse to hate an imaginary person.

haha hey everyone, i have 2 more party members to select but im having trouble deciding. Currently bouncing around the idea of a double weapon user. that kind of limits my options though. Kurt is an obvious one, but doesn't add much role-play wise. I cant pick juna, i want her but there's no tonfas haha. Estelle kind of takes the shine away from Jessica so im slightly against her too, and then there's crow. I could try doing his double weapons. Theres also another slot for alisa or elliot. I feel like elliot is the better mechanical pick but if I select him and crow then the entire party will be reliant on Emma casting arts and Jessica jumping on people for ranged combat.
you can of course recommend a wild card character but I put forward the ones I have an immediate build in mind for.

The explicit meaning, yes. But its not hard to get a general idea of the meaning from context and also the fact that it shares etymology and a latin root with permanent. So you can figure it's talking about the existence of the world even if you don't get the specific nuance. The tricky bit is that the latin prefix Im- typically means "not," as in "Immortal," which would lead to reading it as "Not existing" here. But that doesn't make sense from context. So the part I had to look up is that the prefix is actually "In-" meaning "within" so "within existence" which does make sense. Its an obscure word for sure, but I think its a fun one to use here because the theological connotation is appropriate for Yrilet's mood.

Don't you hate neocons, let's vote in this totally corrupt New Yorker. Honestly his competitors really are shit and worse but that was not the attitude reflected in 2016 when he was pardoning illegal labor Jews even then.

I wouldn't call it incredibly difficult since I got it accidentally, but yeah it did. I had started playing once before, found the game not very good, tried again with toybox, had "her" tell me he was a troon, and just said fuck it. Was it the only thing that bothered me in the game? No, I was kind of sick of it already. Was it the last straw? Yeah.

Some higher-tier medkits can remove them
If I recall right you can get one of your colonies to manufacture batches of these medkits.
Bear in mind you can do most colony management, including collecting goods, using the Colony button on the right of the screen

Best way to remove traumas is not to get them.
>Go to the party formation and make everyone stand in the same square. Now you never have to worry about accidently stepping on traps. As a bonus, you'll never start combat with your team scattered all over the place.
>Invest in armor and health. Dodge is a meme that nobody actually uses. Heavy armor is better than power armor so you're not wasting a talent by going heavy instead of power.
>Get yourself a biomancer who can heal that way you can remove wounds before they become traumas.

The advanced medkits. They're not lategame or anything, you get them pretty soon if you build your colony correctly
>>
>>563375823
>So for now, traumas are "go back to the ship or enjoy a random -20% to your important checks"
I remember those early levels fondly. It had that heroic feeling where your team is battered and bloodied, barely manages to make it and you actually have to fight for your life. One of the feelings I love crpgs for.

>>563378394
The traumas are fine as a concept, they just massively swing in terms of actual difficulty or fun. I don't feel the need to cure "-1 AP" but "lol here's 30% miss chance on your character who can't do anything but attack" isn't a fun type of difficult
>>563378443
>t. your mom when asked about loving you

Yep
You re-establish contact with four colonies, and one extra one right next to footfall. You then have a development minigame where you build them up with facilities.
Maximise the "Complacency" stat for each colony, and you'll get very rapid build times

It's pretty funny that the demongraft from the sketchy arena "healer" is one of the best buffs in the game and that getting it has no negative consequences in the story. The only downside is the berserk which literally doesn't even matter unless you play as a martial
+2 ab, +2 dc, + 2 to all saving throws, +2 to overcome spell resist all for the low low price of 30k gold
Don't get me wrong it does make sense that the graft doesn't physically affect you in particular. But why doesn't the hand of the inheritor have a reaction? What about Nenio? She doesn't have the taint of the abyss in her already

I love her.
It's pretty funny, you can see bethesda experimenting with features, Serana has tons of sandboxing compared to other companions, but that causes her to do random stuff like sit in corpse or destroyed object placement nodes. And they wanted to impress people by having the companion dynamically comment on areas you go into and the weather, but they ended up having her comment on EVERY weather lol.
It's cool seeing how they got better at all aspects of this for fallout 4. The companions more reasonably comment on stuff, the approval system was fleshed out, and companions even had side quests even if they were short.
Then they narrowed it down and gave the companions in Starfield more main story relevance or longer questlines.
Starfield didn't click with me for unrelated reasons, but seeing them improve the technology behind companions with each installment is neat.

True og Seranafags fell in love with her back in 2012 on vanilla graphics. There's quite a few mod visual updates over the years, some staying true to a "vanilla plus" look while others change her drastically. But the woman I fell in love with over a decade ago was vanilla Serana.
There's even a large overhaul that replaces all of her voice acting called SDA, but I think it goes too far in changing her personality. It makes her perform several anime tropes that the author is personally fond of and it started to feel stunted. After giving it a fair test, these days I play without it, and instead do the much more tame SDE which just adds in more of the things she would say in more places.
Serana really is a cool character, and Skyrim itself is a beloved classic. Always nice to reminisce about.

Executor seems to be better for any psyker or melee focused character while bounty hunter seems better for any ranged sniper characters. I can't think of any character that is better off as assassin.
>>
>>
>>563396321
imo it's not bad, but it was hit pretty hard in previous balancing updates. Lethality isn't as strong as it used to be, and getting lots of it is trickier. It still offers some neat movement and damange
iirc it used to be the best choice for ranged and melee, but now it's not that good for ranged, though I've personally never even tried to use a ranged assassin, all of mine have been melee
Assassin has essentially become something you pick for variation / RP / any other reason besides what's meta, though not to the extent of something like Vanguard

I use Assassin on Heinrix, though he doesn't tend to really get much use out of it, since I mainly use him as a buffer/healer that just happens to be able to dish out a good bit of damage
The extra damage from openings, the free extra hit, and the movement he gets from it are decent enough to make it better on him than Vanguard, though if you want to just make him a gigatank for one reason or another, then Vanguard is great for that

I don't get why people say that Act 1 is supposedly so good and then it goes downhill with act 2 and 3
Act 1 was boring as hell fucking Oblivion. I honestly thought I was lied to with this game. I was promised an edge and dark fantasy and save for a blood lake, nothing of that was a thing in Act 1. And most quests and interactions were too memey and ironic with millennial writing everywhere
To make matters worse I became absurdly overpowered like 1/4 through act 1. I was literally one-shooting every enemy in game. Combat is actually cool Vermintide copy, but I simply did not have to interact with any of it's mechanics like blocking, dodging, parrying, managing stamina or anything else since I just one-shooted any fucking enemy, ending any encounter before it fucking began.
I was on the verge of abandoning this game at that point.
Enter Act 2 and game is MASSIVELY superior. People now act seriously. There are tons of actually cool dark fantasy setpieces. Stuff about Fore-Dwellers, malicious Fae and Knights of the Round Table is now everywhere. Balance became much better and I get to finally duel with enemies. Also bdsm corrupted chapel with sexy nuns
Same thing with Act 3 now with plentiful dark fantasy issues, Giants, some curses and stuff like this. I'm now in some Inception/Matrix style dream into which entire tribe went where I argue with a Giant playing God for the fate of Mankind.
The only issue with act 3 is that I wasted so much time on boredom that was act 1 that I'm sick of this game right now and I rather just finish it

I fucking love Admiral Koris. Everybody else hates him before you meet him so he's got an awful first impression, he's a slippery little shitheel in the opening portion of the trial, and he's got a vendetta against your squadmate so you obviously hate him. Then turns out he's secretly the most compassionate, practical, and well-reasoned of the entire Board.

The whole "Tali's father was experimenting on living beings and that's a crime" thing is so fucking silly in retrospect. Subduing the admiralty board by singing Touch My Tralala was peak kino but it's undermined by the fact that her father's only mistake was losing control of the ship.
>>
>>563428892
He's only reasonable because ME3 is the geth whitewashing game and this guy supports the geth. Meanwhile Tali's father's childhood friend does a complete 180 and turns into a cartoon villain that's even willing to kill Tali (and you) because the geth are bad and ME3 loves the geth
>>
>>563429627
tbf ME2 was already the geth whitewashing game, and their original idea for the game was to outright have geth instead of cerberus be the ones who bring you back to life

File: shut it down.jpg (338.8 KB)

Nothing he said was wrong though even in ME2. The Migrant Fleet was never going to be able to take on the geth by themselves, at least not in the shape they were in. Koris's point was twofold when you speak with him during the trial, both that he thought it was wrong AND it was a bad idea.
>>563429627
There's also the fact that if you do the independent geth missions in ME1 you learn they're performing recon on the quarians - but all they're sending back home is their music. There's obviously animosity and violence between both groups in ME2 but the geth aren't looking to wipe out the quarians, and at least to some degree even miss them. Finding a way to make peace is wiser than slaughtering themselves in war.
Also random aside but I love how thorough these replacement mods are in these games - even holograms mid-mission of video logs show the altered models of characters.
>>
>>563429923
>There's also the fact that if you do the independent geth missions in ME1 you learn they're performing recon on the quarians
They were obviously preparing to stage a major offensive into the Attican Traverse. Their very existence is an affront to humanity and their destruction was without question the imperative of the Alliance in order to aid the quarian race, our greatest allies.
>>
>>
>>
>>
Do you guys have any recommendations for class mods in DOS2 or anything that massively changes gameplay? Nearly every single one I've tried out feels weaker and less fun than the base class combination stuff you can do in vanilla.
>>
>>563429923
>The Migrant Fleet was never going to be able to take on the geth by themselves, at least not in the shape they were in.
They just took too long in doing it, before the reaper upgrades came online the quarians could have wiped out the geth easy.
The galactic war effort against the reapers needed the quarian fleet to run logistics, how exactly were they going to do that with their populations in tow all the time? The extermination of the geth is a necessity one way or another.
>but peace with the geth
no peace, only war
>>
>>
>>563429923
>even holograms mid-mission of video logs show the altered models of characters.
that's because these aren't rendered separately, they're screen duplications of models being animated in a space within the loaded zone, out of sight

Just went through that with Tali's. Garrus deadass doesn't have a single word to say the whole way through despite having history with you and her both, AND perspective on what it's like having a high-ranking officer for a father.
Also, this is one of the moments where Hale's voice acting really shines. Getting to play Mama Bear always brings out the best of her.
>>
>>563432528
yeah
ME2 is the least reactive of the 3
companions don't have anything to say after you recruit them and complete their loyalty quest
meanwhile in ME1 you can talk to garrus about c sec or saren before his loyalty quest and even after that you have lot's of dialogue with him you learn about his father and how he almost applied for the spectre program himself
by the end of the game you can even convince him to join c sec or join the spectre training program
>>
>>
>>563433620
they're mature but in a ends justify the means kind of way
for example both of them make no problem with you gunning down looters in the quarantine zone
and they both want you to kill the geth instead of reprogramming them
>>
>>
>>
>>563433565
oh wow he has one dialogue line or another dialogue line and then later he has one dialogue line or another dialogue line, super reactive lol
ME2 actually gives branching shit and choice and consequence in almost all loyalty missions which is far more significant than some lines of dialogue

>>563434630
wtf are you talking about?

every companion has something to say after you complete a mission even if it's just a side quest even though most of the dialogues were lore dumps I was better than ME2 and it's "comeback later i am in the middle of some calibrations" meme

Realistically speaking, why didn't the salarians just cause the krogans to produce fewer eggs? If they seriously just wanted to reduce the birth rate, surely they'd have accounted for the species-wide psychological damage of every female having to suffer through countless stillbirths?Mordin gets the best loyalty mission regardless, sparring with him on the genophage is always fun to listen to.

If you can't imagine your character smooching another character without video game devsv implicitly spelling it out for you, I don't think I can even pity you.
I myself have a mapped Idira romance within my head. For me, it really happened and i have imagined all involved reactivity too.

Because the SI is a Technocracy front, and the Tremere were the clan they were most concerned with. The Tremere then proceeded to remain, by far, the strongest clan around which is why nobody can remove them despite everyone supposedly hating them so much. The shitmissy clan tried to do it when the Tremere were at their absolute weakest - brand new to vampirism, no magic, little to no thaumaturgy yet - and still just got turned into gargoyles for their trouble. The Tremere are so obviously head and shoulders above everyone else it's almost a little ridiculous.

It doesn't make sense that people doubt Arueshalae so much when she undeniably has Desna's stamp of approval.
The knight commander is arguably more suspiscous on most paths because anyone with a brain can probably tell that your powers weren't given to you by Iomedae.
If Arueshalae's past as a high-ranking demon in the abyss was revealed that would of course cast some heavy doubts over her sincerity, but you can't even learn this until act 4. And in light of the available info in act 3 others should be annoyed by her at most.

Most people don't know this, and it doesn't mean anything, not everyone is going to trust Desna or any deity for that matter, or did you forget about act 1? Demons are treacherous so the first reaction of most people will always be to assume that they're lying.
Then again it's not like you know the opinion of random npcs, only a select few people in your party don't trust her, the rest either do, or they don't give a fuck. Who is there besides them? Galfrey and Hulrun don't, Anevia and Ramien do

Ventrue are old money aristocracy
Tremere are mage the ascension rejects who conned Vampiric society into pretending they're a part of the team and blamed everything bad that happened on the Salubri

You're a servant no matter who takes you. The difference is that with the Tremere you're a servant with a nice room in a nice house, taught magical powers, and part of a sect unto itself that will keep you much safer than any other clan would bother doing. What do you think happens to the newbie Brujah?

Idk her being magically protected by Desna's aegis and able to dream and communicate intelligence to the Desna worshippers via dreams through her connection with Desna is a pretty clear-cut case to me

Staunton didn't get any pussy nor did he want it, he just used Minagho as an excuse to defect and betray the crusaders. This is a common misconception because most people read the game's dialogue with haste turned on
>>
>>
>>
>>563449926
There is a big difference between Minagho tricking staunton through regular demon powers and Arueshalae being directly under Desna's care and protection. A world of difference in fact.
There is not a single demon in-game that can do anything similar.
>>
>>563449926
The problem with this argument is that it's reductionist and basically boils down to
>okay but what if demon 4D chess
Not anyone can communicate via dreams without Desna's input, and as Ramien says, in the Worldwound, if a demon were to try Desna would definetily stop them, and Arueshalae herself is proof of this as she got BTFO by Desna when she tried to do just that (to say nothing of literally turning into a bunch of butterflies when dying)

Assume for one second that the buff bar doesn’t exist or can lie to the player.
What proof do you have that Arue is actually under Desna’s protection?
We learn later on that she actually did exactly what she did with us as a lie, just to someone else
Minagho first appeared to Staunton in disguise to trick him to marching the banner out of the city
>>
>>
>>
>>563451027
>What proof do you have that Arue is actually under Desna’s protection?
The literal butterflies that appear out of nowhere to protect her? The fact that she can use the dream phone? That you heard her voice back in act 1 when you were a nobody?
>>
>>563451027
>What proof do you have that Arue is actually under Desna’s protection?
Her being whisked away to safety by Desna's butterflies whenever she is about to die despite the sword of valor preventing demons from teleporting. You might say, how do we know that is Desna? Well butterflies are her symbol and demonic powers cannot circumvent your banner.

Many of the people here are closeted faggots. It's why you'll see them go for tomboys, body hair, smells, etc. Even when they're sexualizing women, they're doing so in a way that reveals a preference for men.

I'm trying to play Wizardry for the first time and can't figure out how to play it. I'm an absolute beginner to this game entirely, I'm playing wizardry 7. I can't figure out how to find anything, I get to the beginner dungeon and no matter how much I search I don't need anything. I have a thief in my party because I heard I need a character with skulduggery, I don't know what to do. How do I find things? How do I progress the beginner dungeon? What do I do to go to New City when I'm high level enough? Any advice would be appreciated. If anyone could give me like an absolute beginners rundown on this game that'd be great.

The demons in WOTR are so comically evil that it's totally retarded for anyone to serve them in the first place. Join our cult, if you're really evil you too can become a swarm of flying roaches, or enslaved in a torture pit. Oh boy!

Been playing Expeditions Vikings the whole weekend, and oh boy! That game power curve is wack. I was struggling lots at the beginning, but once Rebuke>Strip and Deathblow comes online, it feels like another game entirely, the fact that you can easily craft "magic" gear that will outclass everything you get before you even leave Denmaek is also something..
Does the Homestead upgrades affect anything besides the flat buffs? Have anyone played this? How reactive is the world and whatnot?
>>
>>
>>563454819
Homestead upgrades affect your ending depending on if you went with Power or Prosperity. And yeah the power curve is off. Also the game loves to start you in combat situations where the enemy goes first which often leads to squishier teammates going down before the fight even begins. They fixed this with Rome.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>563455278
Yeah, that aspect sucks, the fact that I can't select the deploy order, nor have some control of the pre-round, annoys me a lot, lost many reloads to ambushes with archers who would kill everyone turn one or set my healer on fire. The huge number of enemies in some encounters also suck. I don't know how you can win the prologue raid or the tomb fight when it's a 6 vs 20 situation. Almost lost my units to those fights because my whole party adquired severe injuries due to it and there wasn't enough meds to patch my crew, nasty stuff. How's Rome overall, better? More reactive?
>Affect endings
Only that? Thought power ranking would represent a bigger army or something, and that would help me do the whole British conquest later
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>563456040
Rome is a lot better. There's a handful of ambush battles but majority happen in the final act where your party is more than prepared to handle it. Vikings in general has pretty punishing mechanics and their previous game was even worse.

The difference isn't about that you have time to stop and think
It's that turn-based lets everyone take a pot shot one at a time, completely breaking the difficulty and making it trivial. With real-time, even with pause, speed remains of the essence.

>Deliberately avoided the flirt option, but tried to intimate I still would appreciate linking suits platonically
>Tali now thinks I want to smash
I fell for one of the classic blunders. The most famous of which is, "never get involved in a land war in Asia," but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never be nice to a BioWare companion if you're not trying to fuck them."
>>
>>563465503
X vs Y gives the shitposter easy ammo to argue about trivial things, red vs blue, rtwp vs tb, romance vs Saywer, when actually what makes cool gameplay like an actually intelligent AI who uses potions and tricks just like you is too vague to be tribal about
