I think my issue with Jam's high low is that she can innitiate from her shallow hop, which by reflex will instinctively made me block high, but then she just chose "rmao here low" option that shit feels incerdibly fast.

I play Order Sol in +R and Asuka in Strive and they're two of my favorite characters in fighting games in general. They're not really alike, but I feel like if you like +R in general then you might be more drawn to one of the one-star characters because I think they just feel like they have a lot to learn.
Chipp is also worth considering because he has a fast run speed and gets in your face with suffocating pressure like HOS does. In +R something that makes those two feel different is that even though HOS is fast, he's also very heavy, whereas Chipp is very light. In Strive everyone feels kind of heavy and though I'd say Chipp is still light relatively speaking, that his air mobility and weight feels different from his +R and Xrd iterations makes him a bit closer to HOS as a side effect.

Just had a session where I focused a lot of mental stack onto anti-airing with this. Granted I'm only bronze but it seems too slow for a lot of situations which is a bummer. Also people are just hopping all over the place in all 8 directions so it seems like you instinctively do it you will eat shit a lot of the time.

I'll be honest in saying I was dooming over the H kabari follow up not causing a hkd initially but having played with Baiken now I don't mind the change. Ending a combo with a grounded tatami allows for tatami oki still. Parry is fucking useless now. I hope they increase the damage next balance patch. I'm fine with the added recovery and pushback. I just want a parry to be rewarding.

I'd personally prefer more active frames than damage as a buff to parry. It's so fucking annoying when you react or make a read correctly to something that is slow and reactable, only to eat a big fat counter-hit because you were few frames too early. Also removing the random exceptions of shit that isn't projectiles but it can't parry for some reason.

strive has the best moment to moment animation, animations for normals and specials is consistently fantastic. you can compare faust's moveset in both games as an example to see how much they improved. granblue has better flavor stuff like intros/outros along with WAY better supers. dnf duel looked boring idk didn't play it. xrd had the best stages though strive's are pretty good now

That’s probably fair. I think I have a hard time nailing down what Strive’s aesthetic throughline really is. Like early GG obviously very millenium rock and metal vibe. Xrd for better or worse really leaned into the anime of it all. Idk where Strive falls. Characters like Goldlewis feel like they slot in so naturally they’ve always been there but then I look at Asuka and Unika and they feel painfully and generically anime but on the other end of the spectrum like you said Gio just kinda feels inoffensively there.
Honestly feel like Leo is under-hated and one of my least favorites though. He always felt out of place to me even in Xrd.

I don't think there's ever been a full explanation of the factors that affect ranked placement, but from what I've seen it's influenced by either the sum of your character levels or your highest character level (likely the latter). If you don't have a character over some level X then you're getting placed Gold 3 or below depending on your placement matches (AFAIK only [RANK] 1/3 are available for placements, never [RANK] 2); if you do have a high level character you get placed Diamond 1 or Diamond 3 based on how many placement matches you win. I don't know how ranked standing on other characters affects this (if at all), but I would expect it's another condition that can trigger higher placement default.

His cubes do have different properties. Howling Metron is preferable for starting combos, Delayed Howling Metron is important for pressure, MS Processing is very useful for controlling space for people who try high jumping over your projectiles as well as attacking from the air and Bit Shift Metron is a jack-of-all-trades but you have to wait for it to level up. That's just for the elemental cubes, but then he has Arpeggio, Delayed Tardus Metron and the non basic cubes like RMS, 808, Terra and Accipiter, and I assume those at least are obviously different even if you don't play him.
If you do play him the utilities of his different spells becomes apparent fairly quickly, even before when you were able throw spells out less thoughtfully. I remember the first month or so I played him I just treated all cube spells as more-or-less the same thing, but they aren't and anyone who's even intermediate with him will recognize it.

why is there a macro for faultless defense but not one for deflect shield? i play on pic rel and i use my thumb for the face buttons and only my pointer for the right shoulder buttons usually. annoying as hell that i can't just have dust on my face buttons because then i can't deflect shield

He's a hard character to deal with in general. Hard to anti-air, easily gets in the range he wants to be in, great buttons and even though he does have a few gaps in his pressure, he also has a lot of options to keep it tricky. You can punish him severely when you get him at least, but he's a very strong character.

If he's doing Master Hammer, which so many bad Slayers do constantly, just jump during his pressure. It's a very safe out and you can get good reward once you've jumped out of the way too. He has options to punish you for trying to jump, but upbacking against him still goes a long way.

It's so insane how this patch made me feel like things were different this time around. I actually thought that maybe the top tiers weren't gonna be ignorant like they were before and that characters who had actual flaws would be actually playable into the former top tiers. How fucking wrong I was for thinking that. They are all almost more ignorant than ever and it's even more apparent since if you're unlucky you're playing a nerfed character that has to deal with that now. Nago and Leo just get flatout buffed despite being gigabroken for the entire game's history, Chaos gets "nerfed" by getting a rework that just makes him broken in another way, Pixie characters are more toxic than ever since they keep their same absurd movement and buttons and mix while taking less damage than ever. But hey, at least Sol got a new move that they had to gut his entire kit for since it would be too good otherwise, right? It's just more of the same with a different packaging. And on top of all that, the matchmaking is complete shit and makes you wait an eternity just to play some guy that either is vastly worse than you or ranked way higher. Fuck this shit game and I hope the Jap retards who make it go broke and homeless

I was trying to land this in a match earlier but didn't get it, still seems pretty realistic compared to most other setups I've seen with him. I think the way to go is to be in Test Case 2 so Screamer can set up the throw and you can have Tardus Metron for the OTG, then you just need 50 meter and enough mana to fish for the right cards in Test Case 3 and you're set.
The only real difficulty is that it can be hard to be in a position where you have enough mana at that point to fish because of how his mana management is now, but it still looks very doable and I do think you'll see this setup in real matches.

Burst safe combos are fine so long as they involve different routing and thoughtfulness in what you're choosing to route with but too many Strive characters just got to be Burst-safe by doing what they were going to do anyway. You complain about having to win neutral twice against zoners but without the fullscreen Burst you'd both have that and you wouldn't be able to Burst their fullscreen combo when they get a hit on you. I think it was a completely understandable change, especially given how volatile the game is.
