he excels at corner pressure and suffocating blockstrings. getting cornered by bedman leads to suffering
you sort of pay an FD tax for blocking his pressure since if you don't, it's very easy for him to loop his mix forever. big thing on defense to keep an eye out for is when he jump cancels from c.S or 5K. when he does that he's leaving a gap to become plus, usually resetting his pressure and looping it for another blockstring
I think this MU is a 5P matchup. since bed is a fat fuck with a low jump height it'll clip him a lot. bed's 6P is high recovery so representing j.S is good. rainwater is decent in this MU. bed gets clipped trying to jump it sometimes, and most bed players will autopilot into hover which is usually too slow to punish

What's the barest, most generalized way to play against Nagoriyuki? It feels like he does literally everything and he can kill you in two touches. If I try to zone him I get clipped by his projectile and he gets a full combo off that, if I try to walk my way in I take a ton of chip damage from his normals, and if I try to play patient he goes in and kills me with high-damage mixups. The main question I'm asking is what range should I be playing at, what blindspots does this character have? I know he has to fill up his blood meter to go in and filling that is almost guaranteed to get him killed, but I don't feel like I can just watch him do that without taking huge amounts of damage.
I ask for general tips but if it matters I'm playing Jack-O, in case there are things most of the cast would do against him that she can't

The thing about Nago is that you have to be extremely comfortable at the matchup to even have a fighting chance at him.
You have to either IB or FDIB his f.ss strings, you have to be able to react to fukyo forward, and you have to be good at fuzzy jumping.
The general way of playing against him is to concede neutral until he's at higher blood, then try and either setup offense using projectiles or getting to commit to a button so you can close the distance and start pressure.
Historically, barring the last version, Nago has been a perennial top tier for the exact reasons you mention. (He actually used to be even more egregious)
The only characters that kind of solved the matchup where HC pre rework, and Zato in the early seasons (because they could safely start real offense on block from a range)

Unironically just dont finish combos. When you use c.S on someone's wakeup, dont immediately go into another normal or special. Instead try running back in and using c.S again. Or halfway through a combo, just grab them. Don't start doing wildly dangerous specials and supers just willy nilly.

Got my Sin number up pretty high and I feel I can say that Sin is in a strange spot. He feels downright terrible, but it seems that other characters are in poor spots as well to varying degrees. His resource is frustratingly hard to manage in a way that allows you to keep the pressure on and typically leads you to have to back off completely just to take a bite. Also with how much Sin relied on his supers to wallbreak and continue pressure, now with the meter penalty after super wallbreak, it is effectively a hindrance to do it
This has put into perspective what Sin's biggest issue is though. It's that he has no way to actually make people scared to get hit now. Obviously there's an intrinsic fear to get hit, but Sin flatout cannot make people regret getting hit nearly as much as before. His overhead leads to nothing without meter thus rendering it less useful than tap dust. Elk Hunt doesn't combo without meter and thus isn't a real worry in neutral or pressure. Both of those are also negative on hit without using at least 1 stamina so he is forced to use resource to stop himself from getting the tables turned on him. It's just very tough to work with
I Feel that I play Sin in a rather unique way that is funnily enough somewhat in line with how he plays now, but it's never been a particularly "powerful" way to play him. I always felt that Sin was a character that won from defense since his neutral was and still is really shit so he would have to win from landing a DP and trying to snowball from there. That is flatout gone now and while I appreciate that the gameplan where people refuse to block and are rewarded for it is gone, I can't help but lament that Sin really had to play like that in a number of matchups. Already he struggles immensely against what I can only assume are the top tiers of this patch and I fear that it's only going to get worse as people get more familiar with the new stuff
TLDR; Sin is mid and is only going to get worse as the season goes on

bomb has gotten a lot of buffs over the years, there is a bunch of setups and block strings you can do with it now and they are all worth to learn. probably a simple one that doesn't require you to get good at the j.S > j.P fuzzy is

and from there you have a strike throw mix, where if you throw them the bomb will allow you pick up the combo

Ranked is a mode where you queue up and get matched into people of (hopefully) your rank. You gain points if you win and lose them if you lose. There are ranks depending on how many points you have and once you get enough you enter vanquisher mode where you have a rating that goes up or down to compete with other people
Tower is a place where you can match into anyone you want. You see someone on a station? You can play them if you want and the same applies to others. While there is a tiering system to vaguely determine strength. It hardly matters since you can always go to floor 10 even if you're ranked floor 1. There is the Celestial floor where if you win enough in floor 10 as a floor ten ranked player, you get the celestial challenge where you must win 5/6 games while there to get access to the floor. It's probably not something you'll mess with too early on since you seem new, but it's there and you can use it to gauge skill

I accepted that fact in 2019, during a long ass break from fighting games, but it didn't dawn on me just how flawed of a game it was until strive came out.
My biggest gripe, even back when I hadn't yet decided that the gameplay itself was bad, was the art design. People shit on strive for not being metal and guilty gear, but Xrd was just straight up blazblue garbage crossed with a generic fantasy anime.

It's like trying to learn tennis and the only way to learn is getting matched up with players infinitely better than you and nothing else. A closer analogy to this would be trying to learn tennis and getting matched up with Serena Williams. You can most certainly learn things from playing against better people, it's just that there's an obvious limit to that which makes it something that isn't definitive.

In all likelyhood the connection drops because it didn't meet your minimum connection quality setting. Set your preferences to any region and connection quality 2 or higher then screen your matches (eg don't match 150ms wifi, unless that's normal for your region).

I keep hearing this but I don't have any trouble. It's possible there's a load related issue but ranked release had a ton of people in queue; it's possible it a bug with the update or recent infrastructure issues but that's impossible to know. I speculate that most people are labing or playing park / friendly matches to re-learn their character rather than being in ranked. It's also worth noting that most of the game's population is in NA where it's currently 4-7am on a Sunday.

Well she does certainly have a neutral focus, and it's to the point where her neutral is impressively hard to beat. On top of that, she has really good ways to combo and convert from those stray hits in neutral and on top of even that she has great ways to set up more offense from those stray hits like safe jumps and really strong strike throw. I will say, there isn't really counterplay for her since her movement and buttons are so good that there isn't really a way to really counter her outright other than catching her

Honesty (scalar) is essentially predictability where a honest character cannot use game mechanics in order to create situations that are beyond the scope of the game
Throwing a projectile as Ky and DPing someone jumping over it is honest
Stealing the corner with Baiken and having the matt land just before it is dishonest
Usually characters that have lingering effects that they can do while still being able to move

They could block every mix, tech every throw, and bait every defensive option and win. The thing about character choice is that characters do different things and that means they will inevitably have strengths and weaknesses. And if a character has abundant strengths and minimal weaknesses, that can make up for any flaws in the player themselves. Normal Dragon Kick. Fast, and hits hard. Just the same move since forever for Jam. Nothing surprising.

Getting hit by this does not feel good at all. Even the Clean Hit version, which only activates if done in a combo fucks you up so bad. This version is vastly strong (imo) than the XRD version.
>Gekirin
Overhead Kick. GGST version is way slower compared to previous versions. It's relatively safe, but I honestly think it's kinda meh. If you can get away with it that means the opponent is not really paying attention.

Now this move is cheap. You'd rather want to card up Ryuujin or her Ryuutsui. That said, it's not worth to card up this move solo. But if you can get it while charging for all 3 moves. Then yeah it's nice.

Her new slide special. This is honestly her best special. It's so versatile in neutral and combos and it will almost always catch anyone. Also helps that it's almost the same animation startup as Gekirin.

Well Guilty Gear is kinda over now, Daisuke seems intent on just side stories like Urieka and formulating a new world with Daemon and Baby, a world where Guilty Gear and Blazblue have become intertwined and characters who existed in both are here, through as far as I know only Ragna has changed significantly, Happy Chaos and I-No are in it but I haven't seen their scenes as far as I know those two could have shown up via time travel

What are some good ways to utilize negative edge with Zato? I hear it's crucial to his kit and I understand how it works but the only use I'm getting out of it is holding down my HS for Zatos HS to come out and then pressing and letting go usually either K for drills or S for Frog, instead of getting the HS oppose I normally would have gotten for pressing HS.
What are some classic zato set ups or high damage situations that incorporate negative edge?
Should I always be trying to get Eddie behind the opponent first and foremost with drills? I just need to know where to start my offense, I'm relying so hard on 6p into invite hell then summoning Eddie into some bullshit halfhearted combo. I want to do so much more...

float still sucks. just oppose into drunkard. You will have to guage whether your opponent threw themselves into oppose before you drunkard and start ng them. You can also end with oppose after comboing. Oppose will use no Eddie meter if you drunkard before the actual attack and Eddie will fly towards the opponent, even behind them at some ranges. Also just break the law if you have no tension or Eddie Meter, if you have tension but no Eddie Meter then Execute to resummon Ed. Also make sure to start flying sometimes with Eddie behind the opponent, all they will get is the icon of their own location, they will not know where Eddie is and likely forget to block. Yeah, I'd be happy to see Raven but more focused on his excitement gauge. Granted, this is Strive so there's a non-zero chance they would just make it so he just has a stance that has a high and a low and that's more defining for him than his excitement, but I'd be glad to see him still. He's actually more of a spam nonstop character than before because his mana regen is so useless that you'll either want to go all out on offense and just accept the mana break, or you'll fish for auto-regen just so he can do anything. Auto-regen is so easily his best card now, even if it's not as good as his best cards were before, that it feels like there's no reason to not be going into test case 3 to get it.

Forcing mana break is definitely the way to go I agree on that but that means you need to decide when to spend mana before the break and when to make the choice to cash out the break.
These choices are going to differ greatly from player to player and it opens the door for so much more decision making than old Asuka that in all honesty was an almost solved 1 player game character that you were trolling if you didnt just spam the entire round

His regen is abhorrent even at close range to the point that it feels less viable to rely on it than even the auto-regen despite it being readily available at all times. With how expensive everything he does is too, it feels to me like the way to play him is to disregard any cool setups he could get with his new staves and focus just on either ending your pressure on a very safe spell like Tardus or Arpeggio, or mana breaking mid combo so you can spend as little time as possible in the state the game is constantly trying to push you into. I think both of those strategies encourage being on the offense, particularly the latter, which I'd also say is the more reliable of the two anyway.
I don't think fishing for auto-regen just so you can slow staff and spam is the way to go either, but even if you just play normally with auto-regen active it's such a huge buff to how he plays that I feel like a fool for being Test Case 1 at all over 3. Test Case 2 at least feels a bit better to be in now because the mix-ups are a bigger deal when you're so desperate for a spell that will reliably hit and put you in mana break, and High-Pass staff is good in some matchups as well, but it still really seems like 3 is the way to go still. It's just more mana efficient and that's a bigger deal than ever before, on top of having the best cards to go into mana break with. In any case, even if the offense is a lot weaker, I do think he's going to an all-in offense character still, just with much weaker offense.

If you spammed spells without paying any attention to what you were actually sending out before you would eat shit against anybody that knew the matchup before, at least for most of the cast. Some characters like ABA just had to sit there and take it, but plenty had ways of destroying cubes and advancing on you, or just circumventing them. The braindead thing with him before was Speed Staff because it made it so he actually could just spam spells without thought as they were too fast to reliably destroy and punish him, and they were also punishing on both block and hit. He wasn't ever a character who could just throw shit without thought or setup and the opponent would be left with no recourse for it though.

I like it personally but can acccept it feeling like shit for some. Mana management feels a lot more about "Is this really worth it to cast right now instead of something else? Why am I casting this?" decisions which is cool to me.
Particularly since before with health transfer once you got good enough at weaving it in every time you were positive enough mana basically didnt exist on the character outside of after you got combo'd maybe and your mana was low upon a reset to neutral.
Using on cooldown I dont think is the way to go personally but difference of playstyle perhaps

I'd love to land this in an actual match, it would feel great to do a full combo and all have my resources afterwards like in the old days. A lot of these cool staff setups and combos feel a bit unrealistic to me because they ask for the price of the staff, the cubes and they assume you have plenty of mana once you get in or get a hit which often isn't the case in my experience. Still, this one doesn't seem that unrealistic, I've landed combos with the repel staff in matches and this isn't that different from that.
