As for the karts, the red one is with rubies, the ice one is a regular gift, the rainbow one appears in the token shop and the yellow one is a gold pass gift.

The rainbow one is definitely the coolest one, like an anon said previously, depending on their future coverage, they might fill some annoying gaps, like boo lake r/t

First impression: Definitely not the worst case. Looks like the new karts might serve at best as gap fillers on tracks that need them. The drivers are just collector items. Glad it's not a big ruby drain.

for all anyone knows, one or more of the new karts could be coverage beasts esp. for new players not already committed to other karts. I'd almost even bet right now the rainbow one becomes the most useful kart a new player can dump tickets into to cover cookie land.

Week 2 next tour (Vacation) will be a good chance to invest in the new drivers, especially Mario Mechanic.
Peach Circuit R/T and Squeaky Clean Sprint R have very few drivers worth investing in, mostly just weak Miis. If Mario Mechanic covers both of these tracks, it may be worthwhile to level it up.

If you're a veteran player, meaning, someone who has been playing since the gacha days, it's guaranteed you will have plenty of that filler-ish coverage for tracks like that. For example, gold koopa appeared several times on special gold pipes, so he should be a high level staple and that track also has the dk suit that has ranked appearances and a good item.
Same case for the gliders, the heart balloons one constantly appears in random pipes.

I have Rosalina (Swimwear) at lvl 6 and the Yoshi Egg glider pops up a couple times in ranked and is only a super. Otherwise I probably wouldn't see any as great investments, so it's a good question for non vet players.

Petey Mii had a Mii boost in a tour in March.
Now I have Rosa Swimsuit (8/3), Prop Kart (8/2), Piranha Plant Balloons (8/3). DK Mii (7/2) is an alternate driver for token collecting.

More examples of awkward topshelves I had, these are more common for me on once-per year tracks (like these Sydneys) or really old tracks (like last tour’s Dino Dino)
I know there’s Gold Yoshi and Larry and Pauline there but none of these drivers have been very useful to me (although Pauline does have Twilight House and I’ve been making do with a lv 4 Meowser on that every time it isn’t mii boosted)
>>
>>1794310
level 6 dry bowser is better there than level 4 gold yoshi if you have the patience to pull off 2 meaty bowser shell frenzies. I'm assuming your nabbit mii is low level or it would be even better.
winter larry has been far more useful for me than cowgirl pauline. your level 6 gladiator dk probably overlaps with her a lot. personally I hate boomerang drivers for battles. on the topic of battles, if you don't already have coverage for new york minute b, gold egg yoshi is very useful there and would solve your problem on both these sydney courses.

I made Pipe Tour ACR! First time getting an ACR badge since I started playing in 2022 right before the loop tours started
I went from having around 350 item tickets down to only 30 or so, how do people who go for ACR regularly manage to have item tickets I wonder
Not too sure if I’ll try for ACR again since it took a while and used up so many of my item tickets

I buy the premium challenges every tour.

The nice thing about playing for ACR is that the investments pay off in many future tours, which makes it easier. Unlike ranked, where you might level up something and only use it once a year.

Update: Passed but regained 1st after spending tickets and regrinding.
Daisy Cruiser: Yellow Mii went from Lv7/2c to Lv8/3c. Boo Pipes was already Lv8/3c and I quad capped it.
Sydney Sprint R: Tuxedo Mario (Lv8/3c) got quad capped. I already have a Lv8/4c Astro Toad, but this is a terrible boomboxing track. I was also temped to take my Gold Mario (Lv7/2c) up to Lv8 because the top scores seem to be higher among my Tier 99 friends. But coinboxing is just easier.
Lakeside Park: No change.

I also took this awful Sushi Racer kart from Lv7 to Lv8 for ACR. It was a frequent reward in Gold Pipes which I never invested in.
I needed to unlock Cheep-Cheep Island R (Lv8 unlock) because I had no other decent kart for it, except maybe Yellow Offroader (Lv6/2c) which I rarely use.

They need to retard proof the shop. I bought a Mii and then went to hit the x at the bottom and my finger slipped and I bought it again at full price. I'm surprised they never made a 'confirm you want to buy this' idiot filter. I was going to buy Tropical Balloons, but now I don't know.

Daisy Circuit T: Still 7k below my personal best (71.7 k). Regrind if needed.

I have questions about the most used mii list, like how on earth is Black mii the second most used? (I’ve never used that mii) And why did Larry mii and ? block mii not make the list when Larry mii is one of the best miis in the game and ? block mii is given free twice during this time period

>controller
it's not designed for it but some people have mapped game gestures to controllers using android apps or in chromeos. I don't think it's worth doing.
>worth playing
it's the biggest and best mario kart game. it's the only one with a combo system and inventory management including item levels that no other mario kart game has. but yeah if all you want to do is finish in first place all the time, play something else. in tour, you have to finish in first place while performing a whole bunch of other actions.
>>
>>
>>
>>1812470
>Mario Kart controls adapt surprisingly well to touchscreen
I disagree, the "arrow" controls have always felt too slippery and the only alternative is "always drifting" which I use but is still weird to always be drifting
I was hoping they would add bluetooth controller support too
>>
>>
>>1812537
>normal steering controls poorly, but it's only useful in very few instances
Really? I’ve been playing the game for almost 3 years and the only times I’ve ever changed the controls were to complete that purple mini turbo challenge in the Spring Tour each year, the default controls feel fine to me
>>
>>
>>
>>1812548
these are tough settings to drift with. you're only torquing into mini turbos during long turns. if you just make the steer/drift button visible, at least you'd add the ability to start drifts without turning when using the button.
>>
>>
>>1812582
yeah, you still do have to turn into the drift in order for sparks to build up fast enough to combo, but at least the drifting itself starts much earlier whether you're turning or not. as long as you've started a drift, you can even build up sparks (slowly) while leaning into a turn in the opposite direction. I do this sometimes to swing wide and touch coins on the outer edge of a turn.
if you start to prefer that steering method, you can turn on manual steering also. it makes drifting the default and puts normal steering on the button for when you need it.
>>
>>1812593
But I’m so used to the default steering style, when i switched to manual drifting for that Spring Tour challenge i struggled a bit with it, I might just stick to what i’ve been doing
Not sure why the default controls seem to be disliked by a lot of people when i feel like they’re perfectly fine and feel a lot better than say, water driving in MK World
>>
File: IMG_3659AC09F61C-1.jpg (1.3 MB)
>>1812548
I also leave manual drift off. Tried online tutorials, but agree (>>1812616) that it's difficult to manual drift.
Default drift doesn't hurt ability to compete in ranked because the game algorithm matches you against players of similar skill. But it will reduce scores, especially on tracks where it's hard to hold combo.
Smart steering tries to pull me away from track shortcuts sometimes so I just always leave it off. Auto item is a personal preference, but having it on drops your defense while items load so it should be turned off for battles and multiplayer.

W2 update: 1st place against 3 weaker Tier 99s.
Peach Circuit R/T is the worst ranked track of the loop. I was going to invest in Pink Mii, but probably don't need to.
In hindsight, I did a bad job with glider investment efficiency and have a constant need for glider cap tickets. This will be a focus the next time around the loop.

I am also collecting stuff for fun because there's nothing left to save rubies for after last tour's MKW promo items.
Drivers: I have 15 missing drivers left to collect (Mario Happi, Yoshi Egg Hunt, Builder Mario, Builder Toad, Builder Luigi, Penguin Toad, Penguin Mario, Penguin Toadette, Golf Luigi, Dr. Mario, Dr. Luigi, King Boo L.M., Gold Shy Guy, Dr. Bowser, Gold Chuck). Gold Chuck will be the last because of his greedy debut gacha pipe.
Karts: I'm not going for complete set, just the interesting ones that look cool. 24 missing karts for a complete set, and many are holiday themed for Halloween and Xmas.
Gliders: Impossible to get a complete set since some of the Hanafudas are unavailable. I'm hoping Nintendo eventually increases availability and decreases the price of shop items. I am missing all 12 Hanafudas and 10 other gliders (22 total missing gliders).
>>
>>1813819
steering layout preference isn't really that important as long as the steer/drift button is visible imo, unless you really never fall back on the control scheme you're locking out. I use them both so I need it.
I leave smart steering on for pretty much every course except daisy circuit
auto-item is automatically disabled for single-player battles even if you have it on
>>
>>1814091
Daisy Circuit regular and T have always been the only tracks I ever switched smart steering off on, the rest of the game plays fine with it

Collecting (>>1813832): Got the Gold Wild Slugger on sale for 70 rubies, and Dr. Bowser for 150 rubies in the Daily Spotlight. Luigi Golf is on sale for 105 next week.
Investing: Gold Home Field gives me coverage on some of the LA tracks, so I took it up from 6/2 to 8/2.
Spicy Zucchini keeps coming up for me in online coverage optimzer tools, so I took it from Lv1 to Lv8 (now 2c). It helps me for ACR this tour on Madrid 1R, Berlin 2N, and Tokyo 2N, and it's in ranked next week for Berlin 1R. It also overlaps coverage this tour with a lot of old crappy karts that I don't want to invest in.

Investments: The online optimizer tool (link below) told me that Gold Comet filled the most high end kart gaps in my account, and it noticeably helps a lot in this tour. So I took Gold Comet from Lv1 to Lv8/2c.
https://coverageoptimizer.pythonanywhere.com
According to the optimizer, I need a minimum of 36 high end Lv8 karts to cover all 425 loop tracks. Now I have 29. The remaining 7 gaps have some flexibility in which karts I choose, although Gold Driver seems to come up often, along with a few karts that I already have at Lv7 (esp. Black Sneeker and Firefly).
Baby Rosalina Detective is a personal favorite, plus she covers a gap on Tokyo 1T in this tour. So I promoted her from Lv4 to Lv8/2c. She is very unique and fun to use in multiplayer.

base points done and I'm at 6-2 to 6-3 on all items in my tier 93 account except I'll have to use red birdo in paris b. current 1st-3rd are serious players with underleveled equipment like me. they've been raising their scores all week and might continue today.
on the t82 acct, I'll have to use a level 4 driver even though my baseline there is level 5 items. just to get it to level 4 I still have have to coin rush a few times and buy an overpriced tier shop ticket. feels extra nice to win ranked in the face of f2p resource starvation, so I'll see what I can do. current 1st-3rd place are all using level 7-8 meta items, but going by their badges and low scores they seem to be casual old timers just hanging out permanently in the tier 80s. level 4 driver though, idk. score might be in the 20s on that course which will not do the job. 7% frenzy chance needs so much time to grind too.
haven't even done any bonus challenges or gotten today's extra coins yet. very busy past 2 weeks. I'll start ranked after collecting those on both accounts, and yet I'll still have more time afterward for ranked today than last tuesday.

I like tour's berlin march so much more than 8 deluxe's because the synth is more aggressive. maybe if it ever reaches world someday they'll improve on it.
>>1825477
I did
also for reference, when falling through water, there are three ways to prevent losing combo:
1. of course, use an instant-effect item or time a delayed-effect item in advance. hitting another driver gives you the most combo time.
2. charge a mini turbo with autodrift before falling, then release it in mid-fall
3. swipe up to nosedive the kart so it lands earlier to try to interact with whatever's down there or even start a new drift asap. I don't have any level 8 high end gliders so completing a mini turbo that late after a long drop never works for me, but for all I know it might work with +30% combo timing.
good luck all

I do have to agree in the end, I enjoy hearing the Berlin music in Tour whenever it’s around, the 8 version feels a little off now
And on that topic, whocj version of Vancouver is your favorite? There’s 3 versions now and while I think they’re all good, the original Tour version might still be the best because there’s something ethereal or otherworldly about the original that neither remix really captured; I kind of wish the World Vancouver remix was based off the original instead of the 8 version

38,446 - 81% acg w/lv6 gold egg yoshi
39,119 - 71% acg w/lv8 red birdo
47,777 - 92% acg w/lv7 light blue shy guy ninja

acct 2: 2nd place, avg ??% acg, now tier 83
27,019 - 63% acg w/lv4 gold egg yoshi
36,181 - 71% acg w/lv8 red birdo
39,710 - ??% acg w/lv6 light blue shy guy ninja (didn't note action counts because I didn't think I'd settle on this run)
102,910 (1st place - 107,569, 3rd place - 100,838)
I had much worse runs by acg than last week (avg 91% and 83%), but higher placements due to matchmaking. slim chance I could have been able to take 1st place on acct 2 but as soon as I got a run on berlin r with a coinbox frenzy, I moved on because I wanted to have enough time to play acct 1 into top 3. just that cb frenzy took too many tries to pull with a lv4 driver, as I worried. the gap was almost 5k and with the low score mulitplier from my driver even a much better run wouldn't have been enough.
egg drivers are a rough choice for battles since most eggs in an egg frenzy don't hit anything and the mushrooms that hatch are hard to pick up when they're right next to green shells. heat-seeking eggs hardly help battles end any earlier either, for the well fought bonus.

have you heard these?

I just gave the 3 vancouver arrangements a fresh listen again. I like them all a lot. the original is clean and the compressed drum samples are snappy. the swooshing sound representing the vancouver wind blends in with the rest of the song subtly. it's a more complete song than most small phone or tablet speakers can play properly because of the quiet bass line. those things probably contribute to the ethereal feeling you're talking about and I like it too.
I think I prefer the 8 deluxe version. they use a higher resolution version of that punchy instrument (whatever it's called) for the bass line as the original snes super mario kart, which is a killer touch for me and makes it more pronounced. same for the 3-note bell jingle they use as an accent, it's loud and clear compared to the quiet one in the original that people might not even notice. to me it's an additional hint at the crisp vancouver coldness. I bet nintendo brought all the instruments forward to improve how they'd sound on the small switch speakers in handheld mode after noticing what you can't hear on most phones in tour.
the full band arrangement of the world version is great. I like the bass break into guitar and trumpet solos. I don't play world but I can imagine how cool it would feel to be contending for the lead when that part starts. the biggest problem I have with this version is it doesn't play into the vancouver weather theme at all like the other two versions. it's just a bold, jazzy song that's really nice to listen to but misses the point of the original. it could fit in any other city course.
>>
>>1826198
>makes it more pronounced
>the 3-note bell jingle they use as an accent, it's loud and clear compared to the quiet one in the original
The 8 version is good yeah, but I think those are also why I like it a bit less than the original, they made those parts too loud and too harsh, if you get what I mean? I actually didn’t notice the 3-note bell in the original until I heard the 8 version, but after I did I appreciated it in the original more because it was softer and more subtle (adding to that ethereal feeling), same for the less harsh-sounding violins in the original
And yeah I heard those Berlin mashups back in 2022, I definitely preferred the mashups compared to the plain 8 version, I liked hearing the flute from 8 alongside the original too

Considering Ice World R this week and the upcoming double ranked Amsterdam 3, would it be a good idea to upgrade Volendam further past lv 6 for these tracks?

W1 status: 1st place. 3 Tier 99's - 1 tough, 1 mid, and 1 no-show.
I already quad capped Yellow Mii and Dark Hop Rod. If needed, the next move might be a costly investment in Morton Mii for Vanilla Lake 2. But I'd keep trying with Gold Wiggler first.
>>1827611
I tried running with Rosa Volendam on Ice World R, but couldn't get any coinbox opponents to boombox it. So Gold Petey was the better choice.
I think Amsterdam 3 is more of a natural boombox track, so I'd wait if you have another driver for Ice World R. But if you only have regular Petey (also boomerang), just go with Rosa V.
>>
File: IMG_7457.jpg (640.4 KB)
>>1828006
My Gold Petey and Volendam Rosalina are both the same level and uncap, but:
- Toolbox tells me that my maxed Pit Crew Toad outscores both, somehow
- I’m going to have to upgrade Volendam for anniversary Amsterdam 3 anyway

if I could replace volendam for amsterdam 3 based on how the rest of my lineup developed during the tour loop I would, but that would take tickets I don't have so I'll probably still her there.

>- Toolbox tells me that my maxed Pit Crew Toad outscores both, somehow
8-4 super driver will outscore even a 7-2 or 6-3 high end driver with the same skill, so unless you plan on taking volendam all the way to to 8-2, 7-3, or 6-4, I wouldn't bother yet >>1793567

played sky high sundae and ice world r on monday. reached 1st place with a bad run on rmx vanilla 2 and stopped to play acct 2, until 2nd place raised their score with 2 hours to go. replayed it for 15 minutes with bad lobbies, got lucky enough, and went back to acct 2.
acct 2: 3rd place, avg 78% acg, now tier 84

111,116 (1st place - 114,326, 2nd place - 113,064, 4th place - 110,890)
expected not to place in top 3 because of low-level equipment, but really it was terrible item box luck for rmx vanilla 2 that made it tough. tried too long to get better runs there to no avail. the other 2 scores were both 2nd place finishes. turned out 1st place for the week was possible.

Collecting: I bought 4 drivers this tour, so now only 9 remain to complete my collection.
6 of those who remain are on sale for 105 rubies in various tours: Builders Mario and Luigi (New Year), Doctors Mario and Luigi (Doctor), Mario Happi (Ninja), and Yoshi Egg Hunt (Yoshi).
The other 3 are harder to get. King Boo Luigi's Mansion is only available in 2 tours (Halloween and Space). Builder Toad is available in 9 tours starting now through January, and is often in my shop but I only have 78 rubies left after my buying spree. Gold Chuck is rare, but can appear in any tour except Princess. He can wait until last.

2nd place player could beat me easily by upgrading his Lv4 karts and gliders. He is a Top 100 with a 97k all time high score. If he passes me, I can take Thai Daisy to 8/4.

Alright, looking at your low level…. Finally got the glitch to trigger again, I observed that when done right the “GO” and its sound effect should appear before the countdown starts; alongside the item ticket button appearing
Seems like it’s very hard to time and you have to be lucky though, across what felt like 40+ races today I only got it twice

finally took a daily selects high end item to level 8 on acct 1, 8-bit star. it fills a gap for me in ranked play during the loop and you get one free every year without gold pass. my only other high end item higher than lv6 before this was light blue shy guy explorer at lv7. used up all my remaining high end glider tickets to do it now because I don't anticipate having to level up any gliders for battle tour, but I need to start lucking into driver tickets asap.
I'd had normal gliders maxed out for 10 months and will have normal drivers maxed in a few days (only 10 more tickets or dupes needed). super gliders are the next category to max, a million years from now since I still have level 5 and 6 gliders. I will probably never max normal karts without gold pass (need 610 tickets or dupes).

yep, played both accounts for 3.5 hours on tuesday
acct 1: 2nd place, avg 85% acg, now tier 97
46,814 - 83% acg w/lv7 light blue shy guy explorer
43,612 - 87% acg w/lv6 gold wiggler
40,932 - 86% acg w/lv6 thai dress daisy

30,191 - 68% acg w/lv4 thai dress daisy
107,982 (2nd place - 106,655, 3rd place - 105,702)
1. acct 2: started by playing acct 2. bad runs here but they were enough. got into 2nd place in 45 minutes (short of 1st by 399 pts) so started working on acct 1.
2. acct 1: got into 2nd place in 30 minutes. ran madrid 3 a few more times with no progress, so went back to push acct 2 to 1st place.
3. acct 2: spent 45 more minutes to improve upon poor athens 3 run (originally 68% acg) to take 1st place, so went back to work on acct 1. (spent that time on athens 3 instead of an equally poor 68% acg madrid 3 because I only had 7% frenzy chances there with my lv4 driver.)
4. acct 1: improved madrid 3 slightly (originally 81% acg), but there was no time left to improve athens 3 afterward. (a handful of lv6 gold mii runs came very close but didn't beat my quickly achieved lv7 blue explorer run.) 1st place's lv8 gold mii score in athens 3 (60,656) hard carried his total as I outscored his level 8 equipment on both other courses. maybe he wasn't pushed hard by his own ranked opponents.

1. Roaring Racer Mii (Lv7-> Lv8): For Singapore 3N. Lv8 unlock on Singapore 3T.

>sydney 3rt
48,466 - 89% acg w/lv6 king mario

>final result
141,849, 3rd place, avg 90% acg, now tier 98
(1st place - 160,188 (japanese youtube guy >>1849919), 2nd place - 155,267, 4th place - 139,290, 5th place - 130,787 (see below))
had to use a boomerang driver, so I planned to set aside time on sunday, monday, and tuesday to play. by saturday I saw acct 1's top 2 scores would be unreachable, but 3rd place's 139k was achievable with lv6 equipment across the board. in total 9 players had loadouts that could have crushed me if they grinded for better runs. I just needed 3rd place to stay in 3rd, and they did.
I also saw that 20th place had a weird combination of the gold tier 99 badge, neither of the 5th anniversary badges, no ranked week 2 score yet, and an acr score of 155k. I realized that 155k was almost certainly just his ranked week 1 score, so he probably didn't play at all other than ranked cups any more, and only at the last minute. I was right, as he played all 3 courses very late on the last day, but he only ended up in 5th place in my ranking.
I was still stuck in 4th place with 134k on tuesday regardless of what other players would score. I'd gotten my sydney 3rt score on only the second or third run, but I had to set up and grind both amsterdam 3 and rome 3 many times.
on rome 3, I targeted the action count I'd gotten so easily on acct 2, but on acct 1 it took forever to improve on 77% acg.
originally I thought I could skip the long boombox grind on amsterdam 3 by frontrunning regardless of lobby and quickly grinding for 3 good common frenzies, but my best non-boombox run only got me 77% acg. needed to spend time boomboxing in the end, and it paid off with a podium finish for the week.
>>
>>1854536
acct 2 (tier 84):
>amsterdam 3
30,381 - 75% acg w/lv4 rosalina volendam
>sydney 3rt
43,729 - 90% acg w/lv5 king mario
>rome 3
48,228 - 83% acg w/lv6 gold mario
>final result
122,338, 1st place, avg 83% acg, now tier 85
(2nd place - 120,046, 3rd place - 119,111)
rome 3 score came on a very early run and showed me a higher score on acct 1 was possible. the other scores also developed pretty quickly. final amsterdam 3 run was a funny green shell/partial boombox/banana frenzy run that pushed me from 2nd to 1st in my rankings with 2 hours left despite not being that great.

it's been over 2 weeks since I took 8-bit star to lv8 and almost a week since I maxed out my normal drivers in addition to normal gliders. (final driver to receive a level up ticket: lil' bubble+ man, lemmy.) however the only high end tickets that have appeared in the glider and driver columns of daily selects are overpriced uncap tickets. not a single additional level up ticket, even after using quick tickets. another week like this and I'm going to take it personally.

ACR investments for this tour:
1. Heart Balloons (Lv7.2 -> Lv8): For RMX Choco Island 1.
2. King Boo Mii (Lv1 -> Lv7): New driver for Wario Shipyard N. I had Mario Samurai and Knight Luigi at Lv6 and decided to switch to a Lv7 Mii. I also need it for ranked coverage on Boo Lake T in January (Space Tour).
3. Cact R (Lv7 -> Lv8): For Wario Shipyard N.
4. Dixie Kong (Lv 7.4 -> Lv8): For RMX Choco Island 1T. Nostalgia driver helpful for new players.
5. Builder Toad (new): 8 drivers remain to collect (>>1833963). King Boo Luigi's Mansion is available next tour.
6. 8-bit Star (8/1c -> 8/2c): Added a cap just to bump it over maxed super gliders. Useful on a few tracks.
I am tempted but will resist going to Lv8 for Yoshi Gold Egg (Lv7.1) and Gold Koopa Freerunning (Lv7.2) because they are useful in this tour. Gold Mario (Lv7.2) might make sense for Battle Course 1 if needed. My goals are just winning ranked and top 1000 ACR.

got caught up with family stuff and other hobbies on both monday and tuesday, so didn't start playing until 3 hours left in the week. I gave 1:50 to acct 1 and an hour to acct 2.
acct 1: saved the battle for last. rmx donut 1 run was a boombox frenzy with 2 other frenzies. shipyard rt was coin/super horn/coin frenzies and I think just one coinbox. cookie land was a pretty good run but didn't beat my old record from months ago when my glider even had fewer base points.
acct 2: split the final hour into 22 minutes for each of the standard courses and 16 minutes for the battle. rmx donut 1 was only two basic frenzies with a basic boombox in the middle, as well as just a 4th place finish. but I had two generous coinboxers taking turns spitting coins constantly, so part of the run was just driving through coins without a boomerang. shipyard rt had two coinbox frenzies, another basic frenzy, and multiple single coinboxes, very lucky and and fun run. simply ran out of time on cookie land.
I don't recommend playing like this, but it's quite fun. I really should have been able to place top 3 on both accounts with proper grinding.

I'm going to relax and accept 2nd place. The game algorithm likes testing me with a tough ranked every ~3 months to make me spend tickets. I'm trying to hold back on going full Mii meta.

daily selects has started handing out useful tickets in useful amounts, enough for me to start needing to do coin rush to buy them. >>1863685
yeah I waited a long time for them to start appearing, then they kept popping up in the past week
my daily selects ticket unlocking history, if it's of interest to anyone:
- maxed out multiple daily selects super items and all normal gliders almost a year ago, started getting lots of normal and super tickets immediately
- maxed out a daily selects high end item sometime mid-september, started seeing high end uncap tickets but didn't see any high end level up tickets at all (even bottom row) for a long time, even using quick tickets on daily selects every day
- maxed out all normal drivers on 9/27, still didn't see any high end level up tickets, still using quick tickets daily
- high end level up tickets finally start rolling in, 10 days before this tour ends:
10/4 - bottom row
10/5 - unlocked
10/5 again, after quick ticket - unlocked
10/6 - bottom row
10/9 - unlocked
10/10 - unlocked
that's 3 weeks of absolutely nothing after unlocking the shop then 6 tickets in 1 week

The ice one got it, right now seems to be a good choice to invest because it also has squeaky clean sprint R that has a bunch of tiny karts and it will keep getting more tracks.

Only the cool one getting it sucks because the cool one was clearly getting both the least and the worst buffs until now because it was free, I was really hoping the regular one would get it instead because the shop items tended to get the best buffs and the regular one also has Battle Course 1 which I still need a HE kart investment for

>>
File: IMG_8360.jpg (661.1 KB)
Now I have a decision to make: what kart do I upgrade for Boo Lake RT? I’m reluctant to invest in Cool Tiny Titan because it’s consistently gotten less tracks than the other three. I thought about upgrading Blue Sub or Chocolate Mint Soft Swerve, but I realized that I really want to fully go in on both Swift Talon and Blazing Eagle come next tour, so the least costly upgrade would just be taking Huffin Puffin Egg from lv 5 to lv 6 to save tickets for the eagles (I also need the egg for VV 2N); I also don’t know if I want to uncap the egg any further because if I use any uncap tickets now, I won’t have enough to max both eagles next tour
Any advice?
>>
>>
File: IMG_8365.jpg (671.9 KB)
And another dilemma; should I upgrade 8-Bit Block Glider or Melon & Banana Balloons? I like coin gliders, but the ice cream balloons will also help me on LA 1T and both Riverside R and T in the next few tours, the 8-bit block is less immediately helpful in ranked…

I like the 8-bit block, but YMMV. 8-bit block is very high coverage (see >>1818180), but in hindsight I wish I had more lightning and blooper gliders for "tokens-from-damage" tours like this one.

Got my King Boo Luigi's Mansion in the Daily Spotlight today (Day 1) after using one quick ticket. Only 7 drivers left to collect.
ACR investing: I have only 2 tracks this tour without a Lv8 top shelf driver. Boo Lake T has King Boo Mii at Lv7. Luigi's Mansion R has several mid Lv6 high ends, but I'm tempted to do the Bronze Mii (now Lv3) to Lv6 for the added base points.
All my tracks have top shelf Lv8 kart and glider coverage, which might be a first.

I chose to max the Melon & Banana Balloons this tour, only 16 total ranked tracks (dang) but in the short run it’ll help me on LA 1T and the Riversides plus some extra ACR tracks (8-bit block glider doesn’t really help me this tour or next tour), but hopefully I can upgrade it by Animal

>battle course 1
40,680 - 70% acg w/lv6 gold mario
>final result
149,500, 2nd place, avg 84% acg, now tier 99
(1st place - 152,815, 3rd place - 137,747)
- final choco mountain rt run was just the second attempt, playing with my first all-lv7 high end loadout ever (coinbox/coin frenzies + 2 single coinboxes iirc).
- rmx donut plains 1rt was again coinbox/coin frenzies + a single coinbox
- original battle course 1 was fireball/coin/interrupted green shell frenzies for the frenzy finish and 83% acg but no well fought bonus, didn't match previous best score
- slid into 2nd place in 1h20m, moved to acct 2 with intention to come back and improve battle score if possible
- came back and improved battle score slightly with 6 minutes left in the tour thanks to a run with much fewer actions but a huge well fought bonus, not enough to nab 1st place but with time it would have been doable
acct 2 (tier 84):
>choco mountain rt
47,743 - 82% acg w/lv6 gold chargin chuck

>battle course 1
38,865 - 101% acg w/lv6 gold mario
>final result
129,078, 3rd place, avg 88% acg, now tier 85
(1st place - 143,797, 2nd place - 140,271, 4th place - ?)
- no notes for the first two courses as time was short
- final battle course run took too long to pull frenzies as well as a well fought bonus, so I just actionmaxxed while waiting for the last opponent bot to kill himself on a banana or something, then went back to play acct 1

as for this week, nintendo is telling me to score over 150k to get 3rd place on acct 1, which is presumptuous and rude. I just got here man, chill out. 1st and 2nd place are both on the edge of 170k and they're doing it in different ways (1st place has all lv8 equipment while 2nd place has a bunch of lv6 stuff thrown in, but his maxed larry mii score of 65k is boosting him). 3rd and 4th place keep passing each other. I already miss my 4th and 5th place buffer to keep my tier. the big city is scary and I want to go home. really the only encouraging thing is that 4th place's equipment is only a little bit better than what I'l be using tomorrow but he's so close to 3rd. maybe I have a shot at passing them both.

when I saw it would help me avoid using low-level, narrow karts for 2 weeks straight, I decided to pump it up and use it instead. crazy to think I can make a kart viable from scratch now, but the daily selects tickets have been showing up big time.
>>1865291
>fully go in on both Swift Talon and Blazing Eagle
those were karts #2 and #3 that I quad uncapped and I agree with your plan, take the cheapest option now to ensure you can max them
>>
>>1868906
3rd place is now 160k, a different player than the ones who were battling for 3rd over the past week. I really needed that 6th kart uncap ticket for next week. I'll see if I can even get 5 on my way back to t98 later.

nope. gave myself 3 hours for both accounts again while watching tv and had countless trash runs on every course. on acct 2 it even took 10 or so races before I beat one of my scores from last year, and that ended up being my "best" run of the night on that course.
acct 1 (tier 99):
>boo lake
38,112 - 75% acg w/lv6 king mario
>maple treeway rt
46,507 - 73% acg w/lv6 petey piranha gold
>donut plains 3t
43,212 - 76% acg w/lv7 gold chargin chuck
>final result
127,831, 8th place, avg 75% acg, back to tier 98
(1st place - 169,861, 2nd place - 169,432, 3rd place - 160,743, 4th place - 150,466, 5th place - 148,138, 6th place - 142,678, 7th place - 142,669, 9th place - 124,336)
since top 3 was unrealistic for me, goal was top 6 for the 5 kart uncap tickets. I was using all coinboxers, but I just couldn't pull any runs with anything better than one conibox frenzy and two junk frenzies on any course. on acct 1 that took 2 hours and fell 15k short of *7th* place. without yesterday's tickets I'll only be able to double uncap cool tiny titan for this week and next.
acct 2 (tier 85):
>boo lake
37,046 - 85% acg w/lv5 king mario
>maple treeway rt
45,865 - 76% acg w/lv6 petey piranha gold
>donut plains 3t
36,148 - 72% acg w/lv6 gold chargin chuck
>final result
119,059, 7th place, avg 75% acg, back to tier 84
(1st place - 127,881, 2nd place - 127,509, 3rd place - 125,675, 4th place - 120,381, 5th place - 119,682, 6th place - 119,380, 8th place - 118,931)
I should have given up earlier on acct 1 because I was much closer here. when I saw my t99 acct 1 score would have fallen short of 1st place in acct 2's t85 ranking by exactly 50 points, I actually laughed. my scores shouldn't be this close to each other but that's how bad my runs on acct 1 were.

W2 status: 2nd place so far. Top 6 including me are all Tier 99.
My opponents are weaker (no Top 100, no ACR, lower high scores), but I still can't beat them. It feels like the game has been holding me down lately. Fewer frenzies, bad luck, blue shells at the finish line, etc.
>>
been lucky with pipe coins on acct 1. in the few weeks since I started buying the additional level up tickets in the daily selects shop, I've pulled 10,000 coins from the daily pipe twice, within 5 days of each other. last time was months ago when I had plenty of coins. I don't think having fewer coins increases your chances of getting it, but it's a welcome coincidence.

If I can only fully upgrade one of the Blazing Eagle or Swift Talkn this tour, which should it be? I’m leaning towards Blazing Eagle right now for the better ranked coverage in this tour, although the Talon has felt like it had better overall coverage over the year

Blazing Eagle has slightly higher coverage than Swift Talon (see >>1818180), but not by much. It may be the case that Swift Talon is better for you, depending on your inventory.
FWIW, I have both at Lv8/4c and feel that I use Blazing Eagle slightly more, but they're both pretty good.

1. Weekly ranked competition is your main focus. It gets harder as your player Tier level increases.
2. The initial account building strategy is to get full top shelf track coverage with high end drivers/karts/gliders.
3. Don't try to max out (Lv8) stuff right away. Start with lower ceilings (e.g. Lv3) until you get the top shelves covered with high end D/K/G, then start leveling them up.
4. Use normal and super D/K/G to cover high end top shelf coverage gaps until you can collect more high end items.
5. Coinbox, Giant Banana, and Lucky 7 are the Top 3 high end driver skills. Focus on collecting drivers with these skills.
6. Start collecting the Miis when they're on sale for 70 rubies, since each Mii purchase raises the base points for all of your Miis. It doesn't matter as much if they're not Top 3 skills. Miis dominate the game.
7. Drivers matter more than karts and gliders. Balloons don't matter at all.
8. Add friend codes: https://gamecodeshare.com/mario-kart-tour (or ask here)
9. Use cap tickets to give items a base point boost. Like with level tickets (see #3), don't overspend cap tickets right away. I suggest Lv3 = 1 cap (1 cap ticket); Lv6 = 2 cap (+5 cap tickets); Lv7 = 3 cap (+10 tickets); Lv8 = 4 cap (+12 tickets)
10. Monthly Gold Pass is optional, cheap, and a good value. But don't overspend on any other stuff.
11. The game is very generous and easy for new players, but gets harder as your Tier rises.
12. Many players burn out in the Tier 50 to 80 range (max is Tier 99). It takes about 2 years to max out and the game is currently in maintenance mode (no new content), with speculation about end of service. But MKT is still a great mobile game and expected to survive in some form past EOS (e.g. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp).

ACR investments for this tour:
1. Bronze Mii (Lv3/1c -> Lv7/2c): For LA Laps R/T. I almost invested in it last tour (>>1865663). Nice plus skill Mii.
2. Cool Tiny Titan (Lv1/0c -> Lv8/3c): For Vancouver 2N. My second Lv8 Switch2 promo kart. I hope it gets a lot of tracks this winter.
3. Gold Hard Hat Balloon (Lv3/0c -> Lv8/2c): For Vancouver 2R/T. High coverage glider (see >>1818180).
4. Silver Surf Master (Lv7/1c-> Lv8/2c): For Vancouver 1R/T. I wanted to do Rainbow Bells (see above; #2 glider in the game), but didn't have the tickets. Coverage optimizer tells me this glider covers the highest number of open tracks lacking Lv8 coverage on my account, so it's not a bad compromise.
5. Luma Parafoil (Lv8/3c -> Lv8/4c): Just because it's Rosalina themed. Lots of ACR tracks and 2 ranked tracks this tour.

W2 status: 1st place. 6 Tier 99's including me; top 4 shown. I am trying to avoid taking Gold Egg Yoshi from Lv7 to Lv8 on the NY battle track, but can if I need to do it.
The secret to NY Battle: Use your max level top shelf coinboxer (Gold Egg Yoshi, Santa Bowser or Pauline Party Time). Go back and forth between a pair of item boxes on one of the two straight sections. Grind until you get lucky with frenzies and single coinboxes to build a super long combo. Try to avoid hitting any of your opponents so the battle goes all the way to the time limit.
>>
File: Autumn 2025 - NY B plan.png (1.9 MB)
>>1881553
New York Battle Plan.
1. The short loop pattern (orange) is preferred to the long pattern (blue). The orange loop will not reflect green shells back to hit you.
2. Items boxes will load 4 times each time around the loop. Backspam the items in a way that you can avoid them while holding combo.
3. If you fill the short orange loop with bananas, move to the long blue loop.
4. Using a shell to destroy a banana counts as an action.
5. Constantly do mini turbo boosts.
6. Avoid the long curved sections unless you get a non-coinbox frenzy, especially mushroom or banana frenzy.

I don't even bother trying on normal days I stick with two item only or single item only days because frenzy chance is based on how high your character or mii suit is leveled. The Yoshi Tour next year starts on the same day as the movie’s release and that’s all we’re going to get; with maybe some statues in Mario Run if they do that

It would be fun if the new tracks were substituted for highly repeated courses in the loop. Like instead of getting DK Mountain and Riverside Park in both Animal Tour and the current one, there is a new Bowser's Castle variant.
Also hoping that OctoPot is a new battle track. Cookie Land, Twilight House, and Battle Course 1 are too heavily repeated.

1. Hot Pot Hot Rod (Lv7/1c -> Lv8/1c): for Royal Raceway N. I rarely use this kart, so 1cap is OK. It covers some of the Bangkok ACR tracks.
2. Daikon Rocket (Lv7.3/1c -> Lv8/2c): for Royal Raceway R. I love the handling of this kart, but rarely use it. 2cap for the chance I can boost it over a worse kart.
3. Sunset Balloons (Lv8/3c -> Lv8/4c): for W2 ranked on Peach Gardens R/T. Very useful glider for Twilight House and Sunset Wilds.
4. Gold Umbrella (Lv4/1c -> Lv8/2c): for Neo Bowser City R. New investment. I want to invest in more coin, lightning, rocket, and blooper gliders.

1. Gold Mario (Lv7/2c for me) seems to be the best choice for Tokyo 3T (coin rich), but is not really suited for Singapore 3N (combo killing dead zones).
2. Roaring Racer Mii (Lv8/2c) covers both Singapore 3N and Singapore 3R/T next week. Dash rings are a useful skill for the dead zones. But then I still need a Lv8 driver for Tokyo 3T.
3. Koopa Clown Mii (Lv7/2c) covers Singapore 3N and Tokyo 3T this week, but doesn't help for Singapore 3R/T next week. Also it's not very useful in ranked over the next 4 tours (>>1793593) because it overlaps my other Miis (>>1929796).

I already set personal records on all 3 tracks. If I need to improve, I can either grind Mushroom Bridge R, or cap my Larry Mii (Lv8/3c) and try to boombox Mushroom Gorge R/T. Morton Mii seems to be the best driver for PP Cove 3, but I'm doing OK with Bowser Mii (8/4). I wouldn't mind leveling up my Morton Mii (Lv2/1c) because it is a very useful driver.
Larry98 was a great contributor of online resources to the MKT community. Apparently he no longer plays the game.

The Green Mii is a big driver improvement on Peach Circuit N in W2 ranked. Fire Rosalina has a track boost. Lots of players still use Red Birdo because the top shelf is weak.

Morton Mii is a big driver improvement on Peach Circuit T in W1 ranked. I was using Astro Toad. Poochy is also popular on this track.

Interesting.
I remember in the early days of MKT that players were upset when they discovered that their opponents in regular mode were offline "bots" and not real live people. This eventually led to development of the multiplayer mode.
Now it turns out that the bots were mostly just recordings of runs from real people. Maybe the whole purpose of MKT was to generate large datasets to feed Nintendo's AI.

Gap filling: Only 8 more tours remain in this loop cycle (M vs. L, Night, Pipe, Sunshine, Vacation, Summer, Sundae, Anniversary). Time to save cap tickets to cover my last kart/glider gaps for Lv8/4c in ranked.
Karts:
1. Gold Warrior Wagon (Lv8/2c) for next tour (Mario vs. Luigi) W1 Mario Raceway 1N, unless one of my Titan karts (>>1792462) gets a buff. I am using Desert Tiny Titan (>>1848288; 8/4) on Daisy Circuit this week.
2. Either Spicy Zucchini (8/2) or Cact-R (8/2) for Summer Tour, W2 Berlin R. Summer Tour comes after Sunshine (>>1792451), so no more Titan kart buffs.
Gliders: [Next few tours are tough on glider cap tickets!]
1. Luigi Hat (8/3) for next tour (Mario vs. Luigi) W2 N64 Luigi Raceway 1N.
2. Piranha Plant Balloons (8/3) for Night Tour W1 Rome 1N. Also needed for Vacation Tour W2 Bangkok 2R/T.
3. Calico Toe Beans (8/3) for Pipe Tour W2 Piranha Plant Cove 1R.
4. Smiley Flower (8/3) for Anniversary Tour W2 Sydney 3R/T. Royal Flush glider (1/0) would be a great high-meta alternate if I can save enough level and cap tickets between Pipe and Anniversary.

I used DK Mii (now Lv8/2c) on Luigi Circuit T last year (pic), and Rosa Chef (still Lv8/3c) on Luigi Raceway despite having Goomba Mii (Lv8/4c). Both of those tracks are hard to hold combo, so giant banana is helpful. Gold Knight Luigi (Lv6/2c) has both tracks and is a tempting investment, since coinbox is also good for combo holds.
Waluigi Stadium T is maybe the only time every year when I regret not having Gold Chuck, but DK Gladiator (Lv8/4c) is OK.
