Best trainer harem fics? Preferably self-insert/isekai, but for the most part anything is fine.
>>
>>58954734
This question and image combo made me imagine some kind of post-apoc scenario where Gym Leaders/E4 are trying to collect women for their village harems, but they're all being outpaced at every turn by Erika who's become an unrestrained yuri goddess after the fall of society.

>How do you write a good fight scene?
For fantasy and historical and such it helps to at least have a grasp of how people actually fought, IMO. Looking at videos of people's interpretation of historical manuals and watching them hold the actual weapons and such. It kills me every time in a fantasy novel when both people have swords and the clinch, fight ending move is somehow kicking the other person in the chest.

I don't think I write good fight scenes, but generally I try to use the environment to give the scene a sense of weight. I don't want it to seem like characters are fighting in an empty void.
>>58955004
I'd love to read it.

>I’d love to read it
Chapters 43 and 44 of Prince of Po Town will feature the battle and I’m not done with it but I’m proud of it so far. If you want my thesis on good battles, I’ll prolly post it tomorrow (no longer sober).
>>
>>58954699
I like to think I write good fight scenes, but I've written a lot of 'brawls' more than one on one fights.
Personally when it comes to pokemon battles I tend to prefer righting them sort of inspired by in game battle mechanics. Both opponents act at the same time and are trying to predict and 'outplay' each other during a fight. Pokemon can't take that many hits unless they are built to tank so it really matters what moves you can get off. This keeps fights from dragging on, and lets each move carry more weight.
If using the same move often then don't write it the same way every time, try and come up with fun and interesting ways for the move to be used to keep battles engaging.
For bigger fights with lots of mons I don't let myself be caught up on every single action going on. Just take small snippets of different parts of the fight and try to have them flow from one piece to the next.
I shouldn't be writing paragraphs when I'm tired like this.
>>
>>
>>58954699
>TQ
I don't, I write bad ones. It's a massive weakness of mine. In general, I lay it out like a pro wrestling match: plan some important spots and the ending, then just write through with what makes sense at the time. Also I try to remember that it's still a scene and I need to be considering my characters' wants and beliefs and that I'm conveying information even as they fight. That's how I came to all of the fights I'm most proud of.
Though if anyone has any better ideas I'd love to hear them.

If you care at all about your pokemon then you'd go to any length to get yourself pokemon genes so you could fight alongside them.
Objective #1 after failing to unlock aura or psychic powers should be hunting down Fuji and cussing him out until he breaks down like a bitch and gives you superpowers.

Didn't the New Normal do some shit like this? I remember him "teaching" his Pigeot Reckless because for some asinine reason pigeot weren't competitive viable in the author's eyes so he had to semibreak the rules of his own fanfic setting to make it viable.
It was an ability that technically wasn't one but still worked anyways because the author said so.
Dumb as shit. Why not just give his Pigeot some staraptor genes?

FF1anon, whenever you think of Wol, and I know he doesn't have a 'canon' appearance due to him being from essentially a player class from the FF games, but do you think of him with a stoic expression, or with a smile? As in the first expression that comes to mind?(I personally view him with the intial professionalism before it falters into that kindness of his.)
>>
>>58956007
your pokemon can only hold one item at a time so, the opportunity cost of not having leftovers, assault vest, life orb, etc. doesn't outweigh the utility of being able to hit a single type super effectively
on top of that water is a fairly defensive type so chances are a water type would be able to withstand a taser hit, as well as the fact that fire is also weak to rock and ground both of which are more widespread than water types, even on non-rock/ground pokemon
that is to say, why would they bother

See this is why you need to be sneaky with your woke. Do things like indirectly show through skin and hair descriptions your MC is black. Or showcase a communal, anti-corporate lifestyle embraced by a major character without directly calling it socialism. Maybe even have a lesbian character that doesn't outright make a speech about her orientation but is clearly only attracted to other women.
Just little things like that, Elmo.

He tends to be stoic most of the time. He tends to come off pretty intense because he isn't usually very expressive, which is part of the reason other knights look up to him. He comes off as unflappable regardless of the situation, when in reality he's just bad at expressing himself. So people assume he is unshakable because he has an iron will, but in reality its more resting badass face.

The stuff that goes into medicine for Pokemon also works on humans. It just rarely comes up since humans getting hurt isn't the focus of Pokemon. Even in ancient history people could just squeeze out a medical leak to unbreak their legs. It's kind of ridiculous actually.

This is one thing I noticed while reading game of champions, it's very, very american. The Japanese are refereed to as a separate group by Red as he's expositing basic informaiton to Rocket Grunts and Brock's family are Ainu. Which is odd, especially since it would make more sense for them to be in Sinnoh rather than Johto or Kanto in this post-earth world of Neo-japan and Pokegods.

I've harped on it before but that is why you DON'T explain why they can get so much stronger than irl humans. How'd they do it? They trained to. But how can training make them so strong? Same way training makes a Pokemon strong. Why doesn't everyone do it? It's a lot of fucking worn and most people have other jobs/hobbies/passions than becoming strong.

The part that is annoying is that it becomes an insane dominoes effect of trying to apply logic to more and more escalating effect until people follow that logic to insist some absurd things are canon. And then they extrapolate on those absurdities to come to even more ridiculous conclusions. And it can be pretty fun to do, but some people take it seriously and suck all the fun out of it.

Like tanking a hyperbeam to the face? I would honestly just make every human comic peak human with only those that put effort reaching, I don't know, Deathstroke and Captain America tier.

Honestly I agree with this guy's logic. Pokemon rights shouldn't exist except as a means to support Human rights. Pokemon shouldn't have their own rights by any means at all. They should be seeking to support humans by any means necessary. It's asinine to think otherwise.
There's no reason for pokemon to have the right to vote when they'll just vote for what their trainer voted for. And if they didn't vote for the same thing then it's evidence they didn't deserve the right to vote in the first place.
>>
>>
>>58962469
No. I'm reapplying the logic to another equally marginalized and oppressed demographic: humans in the pokemon world.
You're a fan of pokemon? Cool: include humans. The only pokemon issues worth discussing are human issues as well in essence.
>>
>>58962478
Sounds like a joke but you're right, this fandom is divided between the ones that humans are the ones moving the world and the ones who think Pokémon does and that human plots should be from little to none always quoting PMD

The thing is you don't even need to do that. You don't need to try and explain the fantastical parts of fiction because doing so is more immersion breaking than just not bringing it up. Trying to quantify the power levels of everything is a relatively recent trend that ends up turning fantasy and fiction into math.
>>
>>58962213
Luffy isn't rewarded for disrespecting powerful people. He's rewarded for kicking the shit out of powerful people. Every time he hasn't been able to kick the shit out of the person he's disrespecting his reward tends to a near death experience..
>>
>>
>>58962710
Luffy's reward for standing up to authority is FREEDOM. People tend to look at him as a superhero or a dipshit, but the truth is he's a revolutionary. Everywhere he goes he goes out of his way to topple corrupt power structures, simply because good people that showed him kindness can't thrive where they are - even if in the short term he's imperiling them. Dude gave absolutely zero fucks about the consequences of breaking the face of a Celestial Dragon, because at that moment he NEEDED to be shut up and sat down for the cruelty he'd shown to the fish-people.
He's unironically the best way to write an idiot protagonist, and the secret is he's not actually an idiot - he just only cares about what matters to him, to the exclusion of all else.Gun X Sword also does this very well.
>>
>>
>>58962813
>Wait, wasn't that mostly a vengeance story.
Yes but it takes different forms for different characters. The MC and his rival are the only ones who are specifically out for vengeance on Clawand the show is double based because Van gets his revenge and straight-up kills him with no frills.
But Van was also an idiot in the sense that he legit didn't care about ANYTHING except vengeance, he was so single-minded it brought him through every challenge and obstacle.
>>
>>58962739
I'm aware of all this, but the difference is that what Luffy does isn't disrespect. Its taking action, which wouldn't really fit as the bingo. He beats the shit out of people. But when he can't beat the shit out of somebody then he ends up suffering the consequences and is never rewarded for just 'disrespecting' somebody. Off the top of my headhe got stabbed and buried alive by Crocodile and then later mummified and thrown off a building by him in round 2, he got frozen solid by Kizaru, and most note worthy is that punching that Celestial Dragon got his ENTIRE CREW ass blasted so hard none of them even saw each other again for two years.
>>
>>58962841
I would actually agree with you that Luffy isn't actually "rewarded" most of the time for that in an obvious sense. I mostly wanted to harp on it because it's such fucking good messaging that rarely gets focus among OP fans.
But half for the sake of a good argument I would still argue that, even if it's not to his benefit precisely, there is still a Narrative Reward for taking those actions, because his own acts end up inspiring others to act in turn, which ultimately leads to the Straw Hats prevailing. So even if he's not getting a direct positive outcome from striking at people in power, it's leading to betterment in the long run for the people suffering beneath them, because it's The Right Thing To Do.
>>

>TQ What examples come to mind?
For Pokémon Fanfics, Borne of Caution’s Moore fight’s gotta be my favorite.
But thinking outside of fanfics? I think I fell in love with “anime fights” when I watched Naruto vs. Gaara for the first time. I was pretty young and rarely watched the show so I had a faint idea of what was going on, but something about that fight just hooked me. From there, Naruto vs. Pain and Invincible vs. Conquest (I know it’s not anime) are fantastic to me. The momentum swings and the beautiful back and forth, not to mention the high stakes, all stand out to me. It’s almost like I want to emulate the spirit of those fights, not the fights themselves.
>>
>>58961669
I was thinking of trying some one-shot where my mc and the one from FF1anon's Biomon meet in some place between the fictions of both and simply rest before they return to the misery. Basically just a break from the bullshit, if only for a little while. But I just don't have the time as I'm trying to mainly reword/retool my wip to be more consistent as well as read PokeNormal and PoPT.
Maybe it's weird of me, but sometimes I imagine how much a (thread)fic would change if they had Vahnzimmig there, but I kind of stopped doing that as in almost every single instance he would be an active liability and assuming the protagonists of their respective works wouldn't do the reasonable thing and put him in some sort of therapy/insane institution/asylum for crazy Pokémon:
In CL, he would just not be strong enough and his fits would be undesirable in such a journey.
In IMO, he would at best just be a weak party member and only in a handful of situations provide some trivial help. (Like instantaneously knowing She- who-will-not-be-named is bad but that literally doesn't change anything.)
In PoPT, well, it's a damn societal breakdown and Vahn would be quite demanding. Ian would probably consider releasing him after like a week or something because lil' bro would not stfu about food.
In PokeNormal, he would... maybe this would be the only fic where he'd be not completely useless, but that's only due to Grand Eye, Estranged and Fox (internal voices.)
I haven't read Spice and Fox, Penfriends or Mahogany yet (sorry bro's :(. I just don't have the time.) so I couldn't tell you, but he'd be annoying there too.
Also, he would (if I understand them) absolutely HATE Pokéballs. I think the 'Mon turns into some sort of energy inside them? Well, this would probably mean he's seeing eternity, which he (is beginning to) hates.
>>
>>
>>58963853
The writer has to make me care about that moment in the past ahead of time for me to bother reading the flashback. Doesn't matter if it's relevant to the current moments in story, if there was no teasing and buildup to the flashback I'll skip it.

Yes, but they have all been vore fics. Sometimes its unclear who is going to survive to the end of a vore fic and so sometimes you end up hoping for a character you like to be alive by the end. By the nature of the fics it's usually a fleeting hope, but it does happen so even if their doom seems certain you still keep rooting for them. Just last night I read a fic like that where this one girl was seemingly the only nice person the loser MC had met recently. She did not make it.
>>
>>58964877
It would be funny if she's a non-pokemon actual alien, and since she can speak the human language she just got a job. Although, maybe her being a pokemon would be funnier. If only in a meta sense for fics with pokemon oppression or something like Hyphen where the MC is hiding the fact they're a pokemon. The MC is all worked up and then they meet someone who completely invalidates their fears, making them feel silly and also crushed.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>58965742I considered writing a fic where the MC was gender bent because arceus didn't want them fucking everything in sight once isekai'd.
It would have been a parody of transfics, and the MC wouldn't actually want to be a girl, but also wouldn't care too much, and would be perving on girls and messing with boys, but it seemed too close to pure smut when I got to outlining ideas.
I still think it would be funny to see how the community would react to a trans MC that isn't actually trans.

Although I haven't red the fic itself,I'm waiting on you other anons to report on it.Reading the authors comments and what other people have to say on his fic is crazy. It feels like he's somehow taking his own fic out of context.

The MC of the comic "Out-of-Placers" is that, sorta. Guy gets forcibly trooned by being turned into a female alien creature, and the story deals with a bunch of consequences of that.

You say you worry about shipping autists, but to be honest, 99% of the time that happens is because the person using the "shipping autist bait" character is going out of their way to purposely use the character in a way to poke the hornet next. They never use the character because they want to, only because they wanna piss off other people.
If you're like that you deserve the autists jumping on you.

I don't think I've used any that weren't in the games in any capacity yet, but I'm not intrinsically opposed to it. My Brock's gonna be closer to the anime's than the game version because I like that guy, fuck strict adherence to a single canon.
And I'd say go for it with Yellow. I'm not even sure most of my readers have picked up the hints that my Serena's bumping uglies withEmma

Before things get chaotic tomorrow, are there any isekai fics where the person actually still has the console they played Pokemon in? The console doesn't have to have any special powers, but its just straight up a regular console that the MC brought them with.
Might be interesting if it hasn't been done already, might write one myself if it hasn't.

Since the world is ending tomorrow, anybody wanna admit they have story where a human transforms into a Pokemon and gets adopted into a Pokemon family they've been hiding from me?

In my middle school fanfic my SI's best friend played Pokemon in-universe. It was treated as basically Madden or Guitar Hero, and my SI was too good for it.

And the one time it did mean Self-Insert it actually caused whiplash in the community. TMET's protag was revealed to be a gay middle-aged neckbeard and the author had a public crash out because he was afraid he was doxxing himself with his character's background.

If it's an Isekaijin why not? Besides who gives a fuck it's not like its important either way. Just do what you want to do and don't think so much about audience reaction, unless you're doing this for a job like Fuggman does.
Seriously people need to stop being insecure about this, this is barely actually advice. Instead of asking if you should do something, how about asking how to go about doing something.
>>
>>58967292
If there's an extremely small change I can make to the tags that'll get my story in front of more eyes I don't think asking about it is a bad idea. I don't want to do this as a job, but I do want my stuff to get read by as many people as I can get

Ash gets mentioned as an easter egg twice in my fic so far, neither by name. One is a news article surrounding a controversy surrounding the morality of the Galar fossil mons and how one was on the winning team of the Masters 8 Champion. Another was during an online argument about which pokemon champion was the best. When somebody mentioned the Masters 8 champion being from Kanto another person pointed out that he was the Alolan champion.
Have possibly more planned.

This. Most fossil mons are just, if we were to use some theoretical real science, clones of ancient species. The Galar fossils are Resident Evil levels of monstrous experiments with a cute coat of paint. The fish has its head upside down and can't breath, one is suffering constant hypothermia because half of its body can handle the cold the other half produces, and another is literally the lower half of a bisected body with a head grafted onto the tip of its tail.

SIOCs are about to get a massive buff from being the first to discover the new gimmicks and pokemon.
What's that? The gen 10 region was already settled by humans and it has a rich history of using the gimmick dating back hundreds if not thousands of years? I'm going to ignore that, sorry sweety.

Of course, the MC must be the source of everything. It wouldn't do for that credit to go to anyone else. Hell, the MC boostrap paradox'd his own isekai by creating Arceus. Everything's actually a bootstrap paradox, shamalamadingdong.

Alright, I got an idea
I'm going to write out all the smut scenes that come to my head and see if it's worth writing a story around them once I get them on digital paper.
Worst case I have a bunch of individual pokesmut that works together.
I haven't posted stories, but I'm guessing A03, QQ, and FFN are the places I can post it.
>>
>>
>>58973843
I don't think FFN allows NSFW even if you can find it there. SV is similar to QQ, but I think they also have restrictions?
Someone else would have to comment on that.
A03 and QQ are good for anything, I read a Mushoku fanfiction on QQ were the main character was sexing up Sylphy at 7 and it was quite long and engaged with

The entire animeverse is nothing but frauds, they got dominated by Leon of all people and their legendaries are regularly chumped by nets.
I'm convinced the animeverse is one of Arceus' jokes where he set its level cap to 20 just to see what would happen.

Zinnia is a feral human who probably has powerful pokemon genes in her blood thanks to her ancestors fucking their dragons. That and Pokespe Fugg probably didn't want to actually kill a descendant of the lorekeeper he once saved the world with.
But the legendaries are too often frauds, yeah. I really wish that wasn't the case, but alas Gamefreak insists on directly involving major legendaries in each game.

Maybe in Gen 11 if the Ohmori getting kicked out thing is true.
I seriously wonder why Ohmori is so obsessed with vacations and tropical settings. Maybe it is yet another thing rooted on his daddy/mommy/family issues. They never took him to vacations as a kid so this is how he copes.

Gen 10 getting announced has somehow made me more "free".
Like, I can think more clearly about my ideas? I'm not sure how to explain it. I feel oddly energized and with more desire to work on my projects. Like if a weight got lifted off my back about "Pokemon" as a whole but specially so in regards creating fanworks and things related to it.
Am I weird? Anyone else feeling this feel?

Logically I feel like the teeth should at least do some incidental scratches or punctures even if they fold out of the way. Also 'The swallowing began' is a lazy transition. There should be some short, punchy sentences of the Seviper knocking her over and the initial physical contact prefacing it. Probably some real desperate fighting before the head even goes in. Come on, anon.

Funny thing I’ve noticed after posting a double-chapter battle is a lot of people are dropping “likes” on the 2nd part when it’s confirmed the hero wins before they put a “like” on the first part.
So in essence, if you’re writing to get engagement, your readers will decide they’re enjoying your content as long as the hero wins.
>>
>>58981727
If you post multiple chapters people will concentrate on commenting on the latest one.
It's the same all over. It's easier to make one comment rather than two and the content of the second chapter will be fresher on the mind.
>>
>>58981752
I specifically said “likes” not comments. I’m able to see “likes” in the sequence with which they were placed, and a vast majority of the “likes” have been given to part 2 before they’re out to part 1 (moments later). Which is why I wanted to inform people of the interesting trend I was seeing.
>>
>>58981954
>Two chapters are published at the same time
>Read the first chapter
>Read second chapter immediately
>Give it a like because I'm still on second chapter page
>Close tab I already gave a like pressing back on the tab is too much effort and by giving a like to this "second chapter" I've already given my appreciation as a whole
Same principle.
Next time post the chapters individually and I guarantee you none of this will happen again.
>>
>>58982003
I think you’re forgetting the part of threads on SB and QQ where the like button is at the end of each chapter, so people are literally liking the second chapter, scrolling up, and liking the first retroactively moments later. Meaning they purposefully passed up on showing their enjoyment (a largely retarded, vain thing overall, I’ll grant you) until they knew the end result. Mind you, I’m taking note that 20%ish of readers are hitting that button before they get to part 2 (and these all have the same time in between, coincidentally enough).
It confirms a suspicion that’s been passed around this thread for a while but I wanted to see for myself (the protag MUST win). Regardless, this note was intended for authors who do care about engagement.

>>
>>
>>58982582
It's pretty retarded because at the end of the day you know the real reason for it to exist is not because they didn't think "wouldn't it be cool if your Pokemon could pull a carriage?" but because they're too incompetent and too lazy and too cheap to properly implement following Pokemon and riding your Pokemon. Despite somehow them getting it perfectly in Let's Go just to them fuck it up every single time afterwards.
And of course they have to fucking shoehorn Rotom on it again too further diluting the concept and making it feel artificial and forced as fuck.

I just updated my fic yey.
Now this is gonna be a funky question: what's some fanfictions that use Pokemon as an element in a different setting entirely? Not like a crossover, but a "what if" or a worldbuilding project kind of deal, like that ancient /tg/ thread about what if WW2 Pokemon. Not asking if good or bad, but where these kinds of fiction exist.
