I'm a returning player, and damn, they really ramped up those xp gains huh?
I guess the current event is carrying it a bit, but still, I gained like 800k xp just from walking around for a few hours with incenses & using 2 lucky eggs today. 6-9k xp per catch if I got an excellent.

Anyway, are Routes worth doing besides for the novelty / medals? Walking 30 mins for a couple super potions & 2k xp seemed kind of naff, but I guess it's kind of cool being incentivised to explore a bit.

Routes may give you a 7km egg (not guaranteed and you need to have an empty slot for an egg) from a randomly exchanged gift from a random place around the world. Also maybe a single zygarde cell but only the most gullible would commit to actually gathering however many hundreds are needed for the complete forme (which doesn't get one shot by Solgaleo's Solar Beam, just saying)

because it doesn't matter where you go with a route, it only measures distanced traveled and being at start and end points. the longer the distance the more cells that can appear at once. what you have is a commuter route.

Stats hardly make a damn and only really kind of matter in PvP. A 4* will only be marginally better than your 11/11/15 in PvE. Grinding zygarde cells will take a lot longer than you think as well. The 50 cells they gave us with this pass was really nice, but it took the better part of 2 years for me get the 50 to change it to its 50% form. That being said, I only really do 1 route regularly, so it was 1 cell a day at best. I don't think anyone is using zygarde in PvP anyhow.

It’s now one of each type, but since I’m stupid close to that goal (I just need volcarona really) I don’t know fully what to do next. I’ll probably just be walking my heracross since it’s mega can hit 5k but not without a stupid amount of xls. Niantic mismanaged Max Battles (end mega evos). They were hard pushing dynamax stuff for quite some time until they were told that the next mainline game would be ZA. At that point, they B lined straight to mega Pokémon and shoved Max Battles aside (which is still happening to this day).

That is correct, Gigantamax mons are released as a raid day, so they are up only for 3 hours every month or so.

Niantic is changing this for the next season (it seems) but the current "model" for Dynamax mon rotation is to spam the one mon from that week's Dynamax Monday everywhere. This week was Chansey (and excellent dynamax mon btw), which is why it's everywhere.

They were added to the released dyanamax non pool, let's say, and have a chance to spawn anywhere, anytime, but it's not frequent enough that it matters much. They were pretty common a couple weeks ago, though.

It's a "new" (like 2 year old) mechanic that Niantic introduced half-assedly. That plus the fact that you cannot use your old mons made a big portion of the playerbase not pay much attention to it. The best moment to get into Max Battles was during last year's Go Fest and Go Fest Finale where Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus and every Gigantamax mon were available.

Oh absolutely, anon. Other than what the other anon said if you had a samsung, most chink phones, like mine which is a Xiaomi, come with an app or setting called (something along the lines of) "Dual Apps". I use it to have my main and alt on my phone, and I can even open both at the same time, which is a huge help during raids and such.
If you don't have a chink phone, I believe there are alternatives in the Play Store (usually called something like Mirror Apps or Parallel Apps), but you should read up a bit more about them as it seems (at least according to the ones I saw) they are pretty privacy invasive.
