Someone put out a 3 and half hour youtube video about it, go watch that.
>>
>>12426967
Is it out??
>>
>>12426967
What about it? Interesting premise wasted because of rushed development. Avatar betraying everything he represents just to save Britania is a great concept. The execution was abysmal.

Alright, which youtuber released a 7 hour analysis now sonny?

terrible maho sys.
i hope the Exult-based fan remake fixes it.
>>12427025
i saw it on the Ultima Dragons BBS.

I started playing Ultima 7 but had to stop because my characters needed a 3-course meal every 1 and a half hours...
>>
>>12427038
>3-course meal every 1 and a half hours...
there's item for that in Serpent Isle.
Otherwise Exult does add the "feed" shortcut key to Blackgate.
>>
>>12427048
My problem was more finding/buying that much food. I spent all my money on bread and meat and it was almost all gone before the day ended with just three party members. It felt like a bug or something, they would complain about hunger an hour (in-game) after feeding them.
>>
>>12427038
I had the same problem. I had to kick people from the party just to save on bread. Stopped playing shortly after I realized I was thinking of starting over with a more optimized route around food
>>
>>12426967
>>12427025
Internet discussions nowadays are so lame. Being subjected to getting lied to from someone pretending to have actually played the games in question and passing a youtube videos opinion as their own is really manipulative. Its like asking chat GPT a question and seeing how adamantly it insists its answer as the truth when in reality it just scraped some reddit opinion.
>>
>>12427075
>I spent all my money on bread and meat and it was almost all gone before the day ended with just three party members.
if you meant Blackgate, well you can basically bake your own bread for free. tedious though.
https://wiki.ultimacodex.com/wiki/Willy
you can also buy cheap beef jerky in bunk in Paws town.
https://wiki.ultimacodex.com/wiki/The_Salty_Dog
also you can kill all the horses and cows you meet for free meat.

i had a bigger problem with plot items disappearing from Avatar's backpack which might be a bug, or due to pickpocketing plot NPCs.
>>
>>12427101
kek. any time I hear ridiculous stereotypes about Americans I can just kick back and if I wait a moment it'll play out front and center with 100% certainty just as advertised. here's a tip: don't "write what you know" if you can't go an hour without craving fries, lmao
>>

is this an AI bot? that's nothing to do with the game!
>>
>>12427119
My Ultima Underworld playthrough ended when a bug caused by too many blades of grass and debris on the ground conflicted with the item count of my inventory, so it deleted a quest item I had buried in my pack and I never realized until after I had played for quite a while and already saved after the item vanished.
Apparently UU2 has the same bug but it forces the garbage items on the ground to be deleted before anything in your inventory.
>>

>>
>>12427149
...what? It's a bug. It's an unintended effect from something going wrong with the game code.

They didn't program the game intentionally to delete your inventory if the map has too menu blood splatters.

How many threads popped up on /v/ when he mocked Pagan like 15 years ago?

Those people were always retards. You are a retard for thinking it's acceptable behavior.

I played Pagan on my 486DX66 PC back in the day and fucking loved it BUT I was also terrible at gaming back them, though possibly because the internet hadn't been invented so there was no source for hints and cheats. During my play of the game I decided to drop every single portable item into the game into the river, on the basis that as I cleared out areas of all portable items, the items that would enable me to progress the game would become apparent. Needless to say that was idiocy and I only got as far as the wizard's house, also the jumping mechanic were sonic three barrel tier awful

now go ahead and call me a retard, etc

as goes for me, I don't like any of those know-nothing, know-it-all dipshits and I'm always disappointed to see 40+ yo posters ping back to them as if they ever mattered. stop watching youtube, don't read "games journalism", play the games you heard about et cetera. act your damn age.
>>
>>12427271
The Spoony reviews of Ultima 1-8 are supposed to be complete satire. They only exist to broadly talk about the series to create a background and explanation for his hatred of Ultima 9. Spoony admits he never even played all Ultima games for childish reason skipping the Worlds of Ultima altogether. Now the Ultima 9 review that's the stuff of legends. Even the current breed of reviewers all call back to his gripes with the game. And Spoony correctly accuses lord British of everything wrong in the world. Something that the games themselves always bend over backwards to not acknowledge.
>>
>>12427278
Pagan is a VERY interesting world. And I'm gonna say this even if everyone will disagree with me. But Pagan is the story and world building blueprint for Morrowind.
>>
>>12427283
You shouldn't be justifying this board getting drowned in engagement baiting just for the sake of discussion. See also >>12427293
>The Spoony reviews of Ultima 1-8 are supposed to be complete satire.

Noah's reviews were not serious. They were mostly poking fun at the games, and if thread were made it was because they wanted to discuss Spoony, not force some inorganic discussion about the games. And it's not even Majuular's review anons have a problem with, it's faggots like OP making threads without any sincerity.

Being ESL, it's not surprising you can't understand this.
>>
>>12427293
>Spoony admits he never even played all Ultima games for childish reason skipping the Worlds of Ultima altogether
In spoon's defense, he said he never played the Worlds games because apparently they were hard to find at retail, at least where he lived. That and his autism regarding the games using Ultima 6 as their foundation.
>>
>>12427309
If only Ultima 6 didn't have that border it would allow for 1 additional tile of visibility. I know the parser and party window must stay but that border man so close to making the game playable.
>>
>>12426967
>>12427025
Fuck off Eceleb faggot.
>>
>>12427318
the border is there because that one extra tile would've made raised the minimum system requirements too high to make it worth it
>>
>>12427259
That's the non-patched solution, to just toss items from your pack and other useless clutter laying around into water/lava so that the object gets deleted permanently. If you see an error message after changing floors, you gotta reload and get rid of as much crap as you can until the message doesn't show.
>>
>>12427339
You sure about that? The game still tracks at least 5 tiles ahead in all directions. Add 1 overworld tile on screen and track 4 instead.
>>
>>12427284
>act your damn age.
Spoony is probably older than most of you. and he's JUST LIKE ME! minus the alcoholism and rage against spinoff games.
>>
>>12427153
It's not a bug as such behavior still exists in modern Bethesda games too(from Morrowind to the most modern versions of Skyrim). Especially on consoles. But you can also get it on PC if you play on a single save long enough. It's all memory related.
>>
>>12427301
>Pagan is the story and world building blueprint for Morrowind.
wtf i hate morrowwind now.
but that's bullshit. TES had better game mechanics than most Ultimas, their stories are shit.
>>
>>12427345
>non-patched solution
i played the newer CD version so i guess it was patched?
>>
>>12427363
>TES had better game mechanics than most Ultimas
TES games have static non-interactive worlds. The most modern TES games still can't even do Ultima 7 level scripting for their NPCs. In Ultima NPC could create new objects in the game world, place them and then other NPCs could consume them which would never overflow the world tile limit. In Skyrim NPCs can't even generate or pick up in-world items. All actions they take spawn separate objects in their inventory which can actually kill your game on consoles.
>>
>>12427357
Memory issues adversely affecting a game is a bug.

There's a difference between
>I should've known this would cause an issue...
and
>This should cause this issue to occur.
The former (what is happening in all your examples) is a bug.
The latter could be considered sabotage.
>>
>>12427373
>TES games have static non-interactive worlds.
better combat mechanics, customisability,and leveling.
>>
>>12427367
Patched or not, if you are saying that you routinely tossed stuff in water to eliminate objects then you shouldn't be surprised you never encountered the bug.
>>
>>12427403
>The latter could be considered sabotage
did Dr Cat sabotage the games because he's an evil furry?
>>
>>12427410
i like seeing them go splash. also i hate trash.
>>
>>12427406
All added 13 years after Ultima 7. The Ultima 9 engine was more advanced than Skyrim. Bethesda still can't figure out seamless dungon or interior loading.
>>
>>12427553
>added 13 years after Ultima 7.
i thought the combat mechanics in Arena and Daggerfall were already superior to U7.
>>
The crucial flaw with Ultima is that you unironically need complete physical copies of the games if you want to play them correctly. If you don't have the maps, books, and extras they were originally packaged with, you're not getting the genuine Ultimate experience.

I remember thinking the original Diablo was like some completed version of Ultima 8, given how rushed 8 even felt maybe the staff left EA and made a spiritual sequel complete edition.

I only recently learned I played through the earlier "bugged" version of 8 that had more difficult platforming. Maybe it was the rushed development and incompleteness of the game which made it more interesting, as it was sort of leading the player to be the avatar mastering water, earth, fire, and air to bring peace and balance, but the player only masters earth after committing atrocities with the others being practically impossible to master leading to the player just ultimately leaving the realm to die because fuck that place. It is an interesting conclusion and somewhat non-heroic path that brings complexity as the game is sort of a hollow victory, continuing the tone that not all Ultima games end with killing the ultimate evil being.

This, OP made this thread only because a big internet reviewer mentioned the game, I don't think OP has any interest in the game or ultima past what was said in the retrospective, I'm sure OP doesn't even want to bother playing the game ever in his life, just mention it on /vr/ because starting a thread like this is the easiest way to get guarantied replies.

Ultima 8 has amazing atmosphere. It really captures that feeling of a strange alien world because everything looks like it's hostile and it's against you, as well as things looking and feeling off. It maybe has the creepiest looking monster sprites of the era besides maybe stuff like Super Metroid.

With no difficulty settings other than making your character better, you're starved early game. Getting magical pieces of armor and equipment felt like it was a big deal, when other games would dispense them like candy.

I kinda wish Ultima 8 wasn't apart of the series, but I guess what works about it (like the intro of the game) is dependent on it being tied to Ultima, and to be honest, I cut my teeth on U8 growing up and trying to go back to U1-U7, they felt way too archaic for me.
>>
>>12429418
U7 is archaic to you? It's the most easily accesible of the series. At least with the Exult software with hot keys for feeding and unlocking doors and chests and health bar monitoring.

U8 has goat atmosphere and I come back to it every now and again for that. Yeah it's incomplete, and pretty bad. But I like it. Only Diablo 1 matched it when it comes to the vibe. Not many reviewers talk about this. They just repeat the Spoony opinion and bitch about the controls which aren't even that bad because they're awful gamers. Spoony was awful too but at least he was entertaining. It'd be better if U8 was a side-game before the finale.

>Only Diablo 1 matched it when it comes to the vibe.

Bro I was gonna mention that in my post but just didn't feel right.

Being able to explore with being able to jump/climb into near everywhere in a semi-3D feeling environment, I often reread the manual and player guide books.
>>
>>12429473
I own U8 but I haven't played it because I could never get it to run on my PC. in any case, it's terrible, disappointing and dispiriting that lolcows like Spoony are checked for their judgements when classic games are discussed in oldfag havens like /vr/.
>>
>>12429486
Spoony made it nearly impossible to talk about Pagan and Ultima back then. Well now it continues to be nearly impossible with cawntent creators like Yawnjuular. Except we get boring deep dives on behind the scenes company crap that no one is going to remember once 3 hours of their lives are gone, On top of listening to an emotionally detached canadian goy picking apart a game no modern gamer will ever touch in a million years with the precision of an autistic barber. What I'm trying to say is that I'm pissed off and thinking about re-playing Ultima 7 again because it takes me back to a time where I was actually happy
>>
>>12429512
>it takes me back to a time where I was actually happy
a bit OT but an easy way to improve your quality of life is to take something that's a daily chore and delegate it away or figure out a way to enjoy it. for us guys something like switching to shaving with a safety razor is enough to give you a good morale boost right away, and as you move closer to your ideal setup it flips around into a source of satisfaction.
