Make sure to get your Europa Universalis 5™ sweater from Paradox Tinto© before the next DLR drops! Show them some love, and maybe they will keep updating the game by changing modifiers by factors of 10-100 without play testing a single change.

Only Available Until: March 17, 4:30AM PDT

Releasing this while the game is in the state is in feels like Johan himself is trolling.
>>
even just sitting on speed 5 late game is painful. European borders haven't changed in 350 years. Colonial nations instantly revolt when they go under 50%, I just let everyone go, it's not like they do anything. Values don't matter, going 100% liberal vs absolutism I just make less money from trade, everyone is rich. 1m people still die in the bubonic plague. Money doesn't matter, nothing to spend it on, buildings don't matter. Nothing matters. The research in the last age sucks, it's just more gay "+5% trade efficiency!" "+10 pop conversion!" and more of the same stupid fucking buildings. Nothing interesting. Nothing good. I can't believe they managed to fuck up the late game even more than eu5. I don't think i can torture myself to actually play until 1837

The game runs so bad it freezes for 10 seconds each month tick. Bravo
>>
for that matter African, Indian and Asian borders have also basically not changed either. Everyone just alliance blocks each other off after the first 100 years of consolidating. For all intensive purposes, EUV ends before the EUIV start date
>>
Economy actually seems well balanced on the beta now. You don't get infinite money.
>>
>>2349945
>England still sits around with random bordergore not forming the UK
>entirety of America and Africa settled with a billion colonists in the 1700s
>Russia STILL broken
>Mamaluks STILL aren't fixed. not even a forced "ottomans take over" event until a more reliable fix
>global trade just does not work period. markets do not import or export long distances
inexcusable. admittedly red turbans now work properly which is nice
>>
>>2349945
Ok late game is shit, but for early game Holland/Netherlands can i ask a couple questions? Did you open your own market in Amsterdam? Also, is it worth moving your capital there? I feel like my income should be a little higher then it is right now and trying to find ways to boost it. Im still new at the game overall so i dont know if im doing the right thing just trying to meet demands with buildings/RGO's that meet them.

Why would England form the "United Kingdom" if they conquered Scotland militarily? They didn't form a United Kingdom with Wales.

A couple more points.the chinese and the occasionally the Timurids should not be blobbing into fucking Siberia. your points about money being worthless and the endgame being essentially unfun are entirely valid. But for me the clearly ridiculous lack of railroading with the ottomans and the pathetic balance of the mamaluks is priority number one, they should not be surviving until 1837

I think one of the main things we should have all known was a giant red flag was the beginning was
>Kyiv always overshadows any Russian state
>>
>>2350011
Just disable non-European colonizing.
>>
Game seems to be full of really obviously wrong things that aren't technically bugs, they just shouldn't be happening.
For example, from 1450 onwards Castile, Aragon, Portugal, and France will genocide their entire population colonizing Africa. Literally half of their population will die of Malaria this way.
>>
>>2350018
you misunderstand the point. With the ability to colonize on or off there should be no reason for the AI to expand over the entire Siberian plateau with zero control value over any of its "colonies" while tiny independent border gore statelets are unannexed. Same issue with any European colonizing of America and more egregiously Africa.

Yes I have two markets, opened one in Amsterdam, and took the one in brugge. I don't know if having only one is more optimized, I just auto trade the entire game. I started as friesland and moved the capital to Amsterdam. RGOs should always be maxed out. Trade offices is the best building IMO because you can spam them on other countries land and make a profit in their trade nodes, they also give you maritime presence i think. If you can max plutacracy and switch to a republic

The early game in the lowlands is actually fun because you can use diplo to play france and England against each other and take the land for yourself

The game rule isn't "non-europeans don't colonise", it's "non-europeans don't explore". Since China already starts with this much of China visible they're able to colonise it but they can't go out further east (which you can see in >>2350011)
The same goes for Indonesians colonising in Indonesia, etc. If they start with vision of it they're able to colonise it.

Anyways China almost certainly would've gone into Siberia had Russia not already taken it before them, Yuan/Ming/Qing had already been slowly creeping north for centuries and they had just as much interest in eliminating the steppe for good as the Russians did. It's entirely reasonable to have Chinese Siberia in a scenario where Russia fails to form, the problem is really just that Russia never fucking forms not that China is able to colonise north.
>>
>>2352808
>The game rule isn't "non-europeans don't colonise"
See pic related, there are 2 rules, one disallows exploration, the one you're talking about, the other disallows colonization.
Sadly this means Ottomans with their capital in Constantinople can colonize, because they refuse to make it tied to culture group.
But Indians, Africans, and Chinese can't.
>Anyways China almost certainly would've gone into Siberia had Russia not already taken it before them, Yuan/Ming/Qing had already been slowly creeping north for centuries and they had just as much interest in eliminating the steppe for good as the Russians did.
These are three separate points.
1. The Yuan and the Qing were of the steppe, they weren't "trying to expand into it", they came from there in the first place.
2. The Ming couldn't establish power over the Northern Yuan, though they did establish nominal control over the Manchurian tribes. It was similar to the Tusi states though, they weren't integrated parts of China proper.
3. There would be no reason for them to expand into the forested area, the reason they wanted the steppe was to pacify the hordes who were raiding them, no raiders were coming out of the forest. Russians by contrast were compelled to go into Siberia because of the lucrative fur trade. This precondition didn't exist for China.

Remember, China didn't even colonize Taiwan until the Dutch and Spanish landed there, and even then it was only due to the Qing invading the Ming that they moved there. If they wouldn't even take a relatively tiny island with a habitable climate because they didn't see the value in it why would they move into thousands of miles of artic tundra with nothing they wanted? Similar story with Japan and Hokkaido.
>>
>>2352822
It's kinda dumb that it even needs a rule like this. The systems should naturally push European nations to colonize and disincentivise Asian ones from doing so.
>>
>>2349945
Get a better PC?
>>
>>2352828
Currently the AI mass suicides by colonizing malaria-ridden Africa.
There's no way to make the AI understand and weigh up cost/benefit for colonizing, they either colonize everything or nothing.
Personally I'd just have all of Africa except the Cape as uncolonizable. Europeans should be able to build overseas buildings that can act as forts and ports, but direct control of any locations other than in South Africa should be impossible.
>>
Im doing some modding and ended up looking at assassination cost, if anyone was wondering
The spy cost is based on the target character total stats, with x2 if ruler/general/admiral/close relative of ruler, x1.5 if heir/regent, and x0.5 if peasant estate, capped at 100
So basically you need 100 spies to murder anyone relevant unless they're a drooling retard or a newborn
>>
>>2352822
>Sadly this means Ottomans with their capital in Constantinople can colonize, because they refuse to make it tied to culture group.
The Ottomans DID try exploration and colonization. They were contesting the Portuguese in the Indian ocean in the 1500s until the Portuguese utterly shitrolled them out of the region permanently.

It's because unions like 90% of other systems don't work right and the game just lies about shit. Union partners can and will drag you into wars automatically constantly
>>
>>2353477
Everything about them is truly broken as shit.
I had a personal Union with Portugal as England, had passed most of the unification laws, but some tiny French shitlet state was also in the union some how.
Anyway, I suddenly get 2 alerts in the same day:
1. Castile has declared war on France
2. We have a new random king from a generic auto-generated dynasty.

I still don't know entirely what happened, I suspect the same king can't be at war with himself, and the way the game solves this is by just spawning you a new ruler when it happens, so because Castile declared on France and called me in I was now at war with the tiny OPM French vassal, so I lost my union with Portugal. Portugal and this tiny OPM kept the same king and union, I got a random Cockburn dynasty.
>>
Is there any reason not to just have every character possible join a chivlary order? Seems like free skill increases.
>>
>>2353520
It has a 10 year cooldown, so you can't just give it to everyone
>>
>>2352074
18 years later and my borders are both more and less hideous. Operation Crane Game was a success and I've forcefully moved Castile's capital, absolutely destroying their control. Since lower control = lower warscore cost to take, I'll eat them even faster in the next three or four wars. This move is even more effective in 1.1 because local governors are instantly deleted if they don't have a direct road connection from it to the new capital.

I'm thinking about leaving Aragon and Castile alive as tiny buffer states between myself and France, who have finally decided my century of slave raiding and forced religious conversion is antagonizing to them. All of Europe is getting in a real Crusading mood about it, which is obnoxious for me because the wargoal of every crusade has been to take the holy land, which I do not own. The owners aren't even part of the war, making the goal impossible. I don't even get a ticking defender bonus. Just years of killing armies as they transport ship onto my land until I can white peace. If I hold a direct land connection with France there's a risk of all 170+ thousand of them forming into a doomstack instead. I'd rather fight France in 60 years with my special age 4 Iberian culture units, or not at all!

Oh look, now they fucked up np
>>
>>2353989
It's funny how many different ways they've accidently fucked over England for 1.1. The Hundred Years War means any nerf to England is an indirect buff to France so they certainly aren't trying to cause these outcomes. They're losing control of the simulation, every knob they twist has knock-on consequences they never seem to anticipate.
>Everyone was going naval for control so we nerfed maritime presence and port proximity, making rivers more important
>We intentionally didn't add a bunch of rivers but without them there's no reason for some historical capital locations, so we're adding more, but none for Britain
>Everyone says 1.0.X's early game eco was too fast and snowbally so we nerfed the wool into fine cloth industry everyone was using, but did nothing to help Britain who should have a strong wool industry
>We added governors to give countries more control but the majority of them require a road to your capital, so islands have less need for local govs and more need for naval govs

They fixed a bug that was making England always swap to some Welsh tag, which is good. But it doesn't even seem strong enough to become Great Britain anymore. Anyway fuck you, we'll fix it if you pre-order the EU5™ The Auld Alliance™ Chronicle Pack™ for only 14.99! Be ambitious!

The annoying thing about this is China, India, and Indonesia are always the great powers and hegemonies, but it won't be changed because you get a horde of redditors saying
>that's historical, europe didn't eclipse asia until the 19th century!
Whether that's true or not that shouldn't effect how gameplay in Europe works.
Oh, you can't form the empire of Britain, why? Because you're not a great power. Why aren't you a great power? Because Chen, Vijayanager, Majapahit, and half a dozen other states we don't know are higher rank than you.

The whole concept of "great powers" is a solely European phenomenon in the first place. In East Asia there was one China and everyone else revolved around it, India fluctuated between being a battleground of various random states and being ruled by a sultanate (Delhi, Mughals), and South East Asia was largely autonomous trading states with no overarching central authority.

Only in Europe did you have numerous powerful states that each recognized each other as equals and gave reverence to each other. The great power system is supposed to represent this balance of power that existed, not simply be a "has the most pops" award.

Furthermore there's no way to effect it without actually changing material conditions. That is to say, if you as Portugal go to India with 10k regulars, kill 500k Indian levies, utterly whoop their ass, and then humiliate them in the peace treaty then at the end of it they will still be the 3rd rank great power and you will still be the 24th rank. The only way you can change it is by spamming ships you don't even need to artificially boost your score. That sort of fleet-in-being doctrine wouldn't be relevant until half a millennia after the game starts.

Maritime presence/naval proximity is so incredibly OP that I don't mind England and Japan being fucked over with rivers.
You start with more proximity in Newcastle than Oxford because of it. They truly don't need rivers on top of that.
If anything they should nerf shipyards, wharfs, and protected harbors giving harbor capacity because provided you have a sea connection by the age of reformation you can have any coastal province within a thousand miles of your capital to 50% proximity.

Maybe a retarded historylet but why was South America colonized but Africa wasn't?
>malaria
South America had terrible malaria, see the Darien scheme. But in South America they just plowed on ahead, but they didn't even bother with Africa.
>>
>>2354016
I don't mind this, but if I'm playing as austria and I put my trade on auto, inflation to max, and expense sliders to minimum, then I expect at least a profit every month at game start. How am I supposed to make money if I start the game with an irreversible deficit and no oppurtunity to invest?
>>
>>2354041
Both of them had diseases that kill you, jungles that suck to work in, and various levels of hostile native societies. So with all that in mind, would you rather go to Africa where long, historical trade routes from Europe and the Middle East could have sold them guns, or South America where your germs magically kill most of the people opposing you. Sure you need to cross the entire ocean to get there, but at least your boat was made by your countrymen, who are capable and don't want to kill you.

Also think about the propaganda difference of going down to Africa vs sailing to the New World to settle an unknown frontier. The past is a different country, but I feel united to it in our mutual understanding that Africa is a miserable shithole.
>>
>>2354032
That's true. Great powers in general don't make much sense when you don't even have the whole map uncovered for most of the game. I feel like it should be more regional. It truly shouldn't matter if China is extremely powerful or not if you are completely outside of their influence - no diplomatic nor trade range to reach that far.
The whole system seems kind of arbitrary. I've had situations where the most powerful countries in the world were not counted amongst the great powers, just because they weren't Empires (a purely arbitrary term and concept, really) or for some equally bogus reasons.
>>
CAN THEY FIX THE PERFORMANCE HOLY SHIT. I can run any AAA game at medium settings at least but apparently this map based GSG runs like shit
>>
>>2354073
It's absolutely an arbitrary system, and that will screw up any changes they try to make. The problem with regional powers is that you eventually end up with an arbitrary line where on one side you compare yourself to France and the other where you compare yourself to China, leading to all sorts of stupidity for any country on or even near the line. It's a videogame problem that history didn't have to bother answering, because the entire Great Power / Hegemony system is entirely video game design. I fully expect there to be a patch where you get punished for discovering China and youtubers make videos on how to stop your map from passively filling in like a pro.

Any attempt to change these systems needs to answer the questions "What is this system designed to do?" and "How does this change improve that?" and I'm not sure Paradox has put any more thought into that than Biggest countries get special buttons to press but need to pay more cost of court, because 99% of consequences in this game is forcing you to spend some ducats (the easiest resource in the game to gain and snowball, because you also spend ducats to make ducats).

Does anyone know if the historical institution spawn stops Asia having the same tech as Europe?
Played with dynamic on, under the assumption that because only Euro provinces qualify for institutions they'd have an advantage.
What actually happened is every shithole from Timbuktu to Tokyo got "eligible to spawn institution", so they all just grew there anyway, with the end result being global parity à la EU4.

This fucking sucks, I thought maybe the scientific revolution could spawn in Amsterdam instead of London, not fucking Zimbabwe.
>>
>>2354165
>Does anyone know if the historical institution spawn stops Asia having the same tech as Europe?
No.
The problem is that institution spread is WAY too fast.
>>
>>2354157
>I fully expect there to be a patch where you get punished for discovering China and youtubers make videos on how to stop your map from passively filling in like a pro.
I think it would make more sense if it worked the other way around. China is a great power for you when THEY are close / powerful enough for their influence to reach you.
But yeah, as you mention, the whole system needs to make sense from the gameplay perspective in the first place.

The westward drive was a combination of many things that Africa didn't have
>biggest one was the trade winds and the shorter distance; it's easier to get from the Netherlands to Suriname to Nieuw Amsterdam then return home, than it is to get down to Cape Town and back (especially well-supplied)
>several regions of temperate climate (usually after escaping the lowlands or by draining the swamps) that somtimes had...
>large, organized populations that could be put to work for the benefits of the empire
>while there were no indegenous beasts of burden, there wasn't the tsetse fly
>rumors of gold, trade routes to china, and profitable (slave-driven) extraction plantations spurred fortune seekers/explorers
>faith missions led conversions of native peoples as well as spiritual outcasts
>american diseases wiped out a large portion of contact natives, meaning points of contact (ie, coastlines and riverine highways) were free real estate for colonies to grow and become sustainable, with less competition/raids as well
African missions were often generally just a fort, a trading post, boat matinenance docks, and a church, because few wanted to make a permanent settlement out of them, nor were they given the attentions to really expand. The Americas offered many opportunities, via charters and rights, that made them attractive to European lower classes. Not going to say the American colonies were a cakewalk, but in comparison to the heart of darkness, it's much more pleasant

I've been playing imperator rome out of curiosity and because I have slowly grown to hate a lot of the design decisions in eu5. It's actually fun, btw. But, the real reason I did it is to see how it compares to eu5, because clearly Johan wanted to ape that game in eu's timeframe. I can say that with 100% certainty imperator is a better EU5 game if you literally just changed the countries and pops to 14th century.

It has
>Slight railroading
>A pop system
>Trade goods including surplus goods effects
>Province/region level management
>Automation for everything toggle-able
>Levies vs regulars military system (heavily influenced by roman legion systems, but available to anyone with enough manpower)
>Pop class systems
>You are able to pick and choose which cultures you WANT to enslave/allow as citizens/etc, giving you the ability to enslave just Jews or blacks for fun
>Working combat and naval battles
>Character system actually matters because having a disloyal governor or legion leader can totally fuck you in the ass
>Dynamic struggles between your country's powerful families
>Characters can buy and run independent holdings inside of individual provinces
>Non-nation pops/armies as barbarian raiders who can and will go buck wild on you if you don't stamp them out (what the fuck happened to natives killing your colonists like in eu3?)
>Colonization is actually kinda fun and has some reward vs being the nothingburger it is in eu5
>The UI is a dense autistic clusterfuck and map modes are like eu5-tier granular
>Pop migration actually matters and isn't arbitrarily limited to "inside the same market"
>Events aren't just fuck you vs fuck you options
>A shit ton of flavor for each different country/culture group
I think if Johan just tries to fix eu5 by making it more like imperator, it will be fun. I'm actually kinda mad playing imperator and enjoying it so much, because if it had the market autism and economic depth of eu5, it would be the best gsg I've ever played since v2

>historical fact
Why does the myth that non-Europeans had military parity with the Europeans before some arbitrary Victorian era date persist?

Europeans BTFOing Africans:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_conquest_of_the_East_African_coast
Europeans BTFOing Indians:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_conquest_of_Goa
Europeans BTFOing South East Asians:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capture_of_Malacca_(1511)
Europeans BTFOing East Asians:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Fukuda_Bay

Yes, these places were all as rich/richer than Europe, because they had more people and better resources, that can be simulated through them having more pops and better RGO. They did NOT have technological parity with Europe. Not even close. Quite frankly if the game simulated history it would be incredibly boring to play as Europeans, you'd just blockade Asia with a few caravels and get whatever you wanted.
>>
>>2354626
This is all Portuguese though. Going by the evidence the Portuguese should get military buffs on par with Timur, but the rest of Europe doesn't get to piggyback on their achievements. PortuGOD military power only filtered down to the rest of Europe centuries later.

>>2352830

>>
>>2354626
This could (mostly) be solved by giving Europeans (and maybe chinks) sole access to heavy ships and good cannons before the 18th century or so. Europe was on par with China Proper as the richest part of the world per capita by 1400, which isn't something that the game reflects very well at all

1. Yes. Unironically.
2. Euros never attack any part of India or South East Asia anyway, so even if they were stronger it wouldn't matter.
3. Having Euros be an actual challenge instead of just pwning them with your European tier troops would be fun.
>>
>>2354694
I'm fine with that. It makes the game more challenging and makes each region more unique, rather than letting everyone use the same optimal strat.

Like in EU4 when all Asians would rush colonize one province next to a Spanish mexican colony to westernize ASAP.

Johan didn't make the version of Imperator you are playing now. They fired him and had somebody else tard-wrangle and overhaul the whole game to the very decent version we have now.
Imperator 1.0 was a huge, stinking piece of shit.
>>
I really want to know what gives some of you people hope. Because looking at the beta-debacle so far paradox tinto seems completley unable at actually measuring second order effects, so they will just keep breaking the game and endlessly patch out the small new bugs they make

>>2354708
that's true but I think it's undeniable that EU5 is based more on 2.05 imperator rome than it is on the one that Johan made
>>
Wiz should take over EU5

>>2354723
>I really want to know what gives some of you people hope.
Just like Imperator Johan will eventually be tard wrangled and the game can be saved from his dogshit directing. But unlike with Imperator Paradox won't just drop support for the game after a year because it's one of their main flagship series.
