Thrasher should accept that most people consume skating via video and that the video should come out FIRST before the photo.
Imagine if he dropped that and we learned about it right then and there? Would have actually been shocking.
Also, they need to be self aware that this is only appealing to old-heads at this point. Some ripped jock who looks 35 isn't a selling point to some teens who want to get into skating.
Actual core brands seem even further and further removed from mainstream skating every day. Ask a new skater what his favorite brands are and he'll say Enjoi, Mystery, Girl, Powell Peralta, and Plan B instead of Hardbody, ec melodi, limo, frog, hockey, bronze, whatever.
Isn't that how EVERYONE got *actually* into skating?
For example
>doing shitty garage kickflips and casper flips my whole life, only aware of mainstream red-bull-esque skating
>stumble upon a LurkNYC video or the 917 videos in the 2010s
>Actually get good at skating and devote my life to it.
>Skate companies print money because I go through a deck once a month, and multiple shoes a year.
It's so easy
It's so easy.

The fact that there's kids getting flow from companies when they're still learning how to do 360 flips because they happen to live on the same street as some company's team manager was insanely demotivating as a kid who lived far away from any skateboarding hubs. For someone like me, my only real chance was impressing people at a demo, but fate conspired to ensure I was injured the few times anyone rolled through.
Looking back, it was for the best, because now I have a fairly cushy job that's given me steady advancement and allowed me to own a home and a nice car.

As much as I like some of the other skaters nominated more than Joslin overall, I feel like the legacy of what he has accomplished can't be denied
>>250583
Easier to flip, Less stability. You will probably have an adjustment period where you get used to having less surface to land and ride around on
>>
Joslins treflip crossed into the normie-sphere, he will win it but.. eh SOTY is gay now. I think it should be Simon or Baekkel, someone on the come up who put themselves in the spotlight. Joslins been there. I think after the Foy/Deshaun bullshit and Phelps death SOTY is a bit of a nothing award now.
>>
>>250598
Joslin won. They posted it today. I look forward to his SotY trip video. Those are always fun. The award might be less hype than it used to be, but its important to keep it going. A lot of these guys push themselves super hard because of it.

I am a Patreon member for Gifted Hater. Proud to say I've been a day one fan since he was under 3k YT subs. He's gotten a lot softer over the year, but he's still better than Ninja or Dumb Data.
I don't even skate anymore btw. I pushed around the neighborhood a couple weekends ago and my legs were so damn sore.

This made me think is there any superstitions in skating? Beyond Reynolds autistic OCD? E.g. I don't wear green n the ocean because picrel will come and drag me under.
>>
>>250757
Everyone has their own little tics and preferences. I only skate my wheels with the graphic pointed in, and if the wheels are blank I'll mark one side with a sharpie or something so all my wheels are facing the same way.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>250924
99% of all wheels out there are white or off white, and having colored wheels usually means you intentionally sought them out rather than just using what would have otherwise fit your needs.
Think of it this way: if there's a guy at work who dresses normal aside from a really flashy belt or shoelaces, you'd immediately file him away under the odd category before even talking to him, right?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>250928
>>250941
The real answer, retards, is that pure urethane isn't colored. So making them colored changes the structure. It doesn't seem to matter as much for softer translucent wheels but for harder opaque urethane it absolutely does.
This is why black wheels are the worst and fall apart, because they are the most molecularly compromised.

Just got my hands on a pair of Nike PS8s and despite my initial misgivings, I'm loving them.
They look like a running shoe and have a partially knit upper plus a carbon fiber plate in the sole, so they don't look or feel like proper skate shoes, but they're so insanely grippy and what little board feel there is feels like just enough.

Property damage, mostly. Do you know how expensive handrails, tiles, cement work, etc. is? And then because the way most of you act, it's like having niggers around, so they don't want you there anyway. Why the fuck can't people just skate skateparks and be happy? Street skating is a meme dating back to when there weren't any skateparks because they were all shut down in the late 80's. No reason street should "count more" just because you fucked up someone else's property to do it.

By the time I could've done it, I had spent too much time in school as a "backup plan" and wasn't good enough and pro skating was just starting to unravel. I also never liked stairs or handrails and it really became a requirement starting in the early 00's.

The skatepark was already a semi illegal DIY where everyone in town ignored it so long as the people there weren't making too much noise since the alternative was more people skating in places they'll get kicked out of more often.
The guy's idea was to completely ruin that by making it a huge event, forcing the city to close the place down for his own personal short term gain. Beating the shit out of him would have been a moderate response, but they tried to be diplomatic and he threw a complete tantrum and pretended to be a victim.

At a local park near me there are really nice ledges, and its become something of a skate plaza over the years. The ledges there have been skated for over a decade now. The city understands that letting skaters use the space deters homeless people doing drugs. The public understands this too. People are friendly and I've seen little kids get stoked on watching me and others skate. There is a lot of foot traffic there and everyone is really good about yielding to pedestrians.
The local university near me is also soft on skaters. I'll be skating a completely blackened ledge there and a security guard has come and talked to me about how nice the weather is. When I was a teenager you could get a ticket for skating there. Ever since Covid they have stopped caring as much.
Street skating encompasses so much more than just one type of property. There are different rules for different places. I think the anti street skating poster likely can't even skate street competently. We all know that if you can't do a ledge trick on a street ledge you don't really have that trick. Skateparks are for training. The streets are the real proving ground. Nothing compares to landing a trick on a spot not designed for skateboarding. Every real skater knows this. Every real skater is chasing that high.

Vans pop cush is fucking awful, holy shit. How did this get past the testing phase?
>Remove insole and all associated padding
>Place almost an inch of foam directly on the top of the outsole
>Call it done and sell it
It feels like you're balancing on a Jenga tower and I've worn work boots with more board feel. Not to mention, they didn't adjust the shoe at all so there's just less room for your foot vertically and you're going to need to deal with the top of your foot being pressed against the top of the shoe like the whole thing is a Japanese train during rush hour.

Vans is a trainwreck, they lay heavily on the lifestyle marketing while the company is actually owned by one them mega investment funds, VF corporation. Outside of some flagships pairs (not that I have worn any, like the half-cabs) they essentially sell coloured rolling- paper flip-flops.

The Authentic. Doesn't help that the heavy stitching on the canvas creates an awful rub point.
I somewhat fixed it by tossing the insoles in the trash and replacing them with the spare pair that come with some Janoskis. There's way less cushioning now because the shoe doesn't have a midsole, but at least it's wearable.

Should "rolling down a hill" really not be considered a skateboard trick? Ninja and his fans always call out ollieing into banks as if it's not a real trick.
On the contrary, I think it actually takes a lot of skill to assess a sloped obstacle in the streets and ride it, depending how steep, bumpy, etc. it is. Of course, it's different than doing a flip trick into a ledge or rail or something, but the skill of those types of technical tricks are more easily transferred from generic skatepark obstacles.
Riding big slopes, banks and the like requires the more fundamental skill of assessing unfamiliar terrain, visualizing your ability to ride that terrain and then using your balance and board control to enact that vision. That's something you can only really get good at by riding the streets, not just prefab skatepark obstacles that were designed with tricks in mind.
Doing a flip-in, flip-out ledge trick requires a lot of different technical skills stacked on top of each other and all executed at once. There's skill to that, obviously. In contrast, riding gnarly, difficult terrain and not falling basically only takes one skill, that being balance/board control. But, limiting yourself to only that one skill allows you to push the limit of that skill much further. I think there's a place for that kind of accomplishment in skating just as well as there is any other kind of skill.

Some skaters are just narcissistic assholes that don't care about others and skate in public areas where there is risk of hitting people going through their day so it's not surprise that some people hate skaters. One time a friend of mind responded to me "skate and destroy" when we were talking about it, carrying such mindset getting hate at some point is only to be expected and skaters themselves would be pissed if some idiot did something that could be dangerous and threatening to their physical well being for completely selfish reasons snd with complete disgregard for others. Specifically a clip of some dude skating in a long ass ramp in the underground that nearly hits a woman that's probably just commuting and doesn't want to get her ankles broken by some random person doing unexpected things in a public area. Now that society and cities are completely massive such behaviors are overlooked, but if communities were smaller and more tight I would guess people doing such things would be quickly taken care of as having a nuisance that contributes nothing wouldn't make any sense. So yeah, I think irresponsible selfish people partaking in potentially dangerous activities for others are universally disliked. I doubt I have ever heard "oh man I hate rock climbers so much" "these damn painters they are so annoying" but you will hear people hating on skaters and cyclists, why? Because some of them are bothersome because their activities have the potential to be so if not done mindfully.
