Dan will absolutely not be promoted with a single yusho at Ozeki. It could be the most dominant zensho the JSA has ever seen but it simply wouldn't matter because two yusho at Ozeki is a hard rule. One can be a strong yusho equivalent (see: 13+ wins) if the JSA feels like it, but nothing Dan does could make him Yokozuna for March.

What a stupid comment. Many active rikishi have a better career win rate than Hakuho. Hakuho's career win rate was 82.7%. Right now Dan's is 91.3%. Kazuma is at 93.9%. Win rates are fleeting and in the moment. A rikishi can be mediocre for a long time then suddenly hit their stride, making their earlier poor win rate completely irrelevant.

WMH is actually a big (!!!) here because it took him 7 years to hit Juryo, and he immediately tanked back down to Makushita for 4 of the next 5 basho. Even Zak spent about three years grinding Makushita.

When you actually look at it, most Makuuchi guys spent a lot of time grinding their way up. Sato and Dan are huge outliers.

The biggest late bloomer in sumo is probably Chiyonofuji. It took him over 10 years just to make sekiwake for the first time, but after that he was yokozuna less than a year later and is now considered one of the GOATs.

Onosato and Dan are not comparable, Onosato was a tsukedashi, its common for those guys immediately level up to Juryo. Someone climbing from the bottom rung to the top without ever faltering even slightly is unheard of. Dan's early career trajectory is an outstanding feat which will probably never again be matched. Even the most dominant yokozunas were never capable of doing what Dan is doing, but if you want to watch the next guy to have super hot start to his career to see if he can equal Dan, Kaki's makushita debut is worth paying attention to. Going for his 4th consecutive yusho at Ms21e
