So wait what’s easier to learn Board slides or 50-50s I feel like board slides are easier to step on but they harder to balance than 50s Also the risk of getting hurt is more for boardslides right?
>>256072 Yeah that's a classic in /esg/ as well as the real world. Who knew that Jeremy Klein was a fucking retard? I also kinda dig Destroying America, it is just so essentially skateboarding, what with the five-oh's (a vert trick) on very high ledges on which you have to get with kickers (street skateboarding and snowboarding too).
Ya'll see Brad Cromer is upset that Ryan Lay is making edits similar to his? I personally really like both of them. I mostly skate alone these days because most of my homies quit, so the style of static angles and exploring out on your own speaks to me
>>256207 I thought some bowls were just slippery I didn't know anti graffiti coating existed. Ps fuck big deep bowls and short steep ones, keep it mellow
I bought a Real board and it was bent. One of my wheels would be like 5cm off the ground it was totally fucked. Should have kept my receipt surely it was worth getting replaced on warranty
this is not skateboarding. seeing this shit posted on thrasher irritates me because its not really skating, these people are using their fucking hands to manipulate the board which is easier and not impressive. if your legs are gone, cope with videogames or art like a normal disabled person.
>>256430 I can't imagine anyone who would claim crippleboarding is superior and it comes across like you feel insecure about your ability compared to theirs. You could always cripple yourself skateboarding, problem solved.
>>256074 >50s : repeatedly train to land on an obstacle on your trucks (typically 5-6 inches between the wheels) with your feet both light enough to have precise movement and heavy enough to sustain your bodyweight >boardslides : throw yourself at something and see what sticks
>>256607 bambi legs are called that because bambi was a newborn and hadn't gotten used to standing or moving. practice standing and moving. push around and do squats while moving. learn to fall. etc
>>256662 Yes. And also just pushing and rolling and aiming to go somewhere.
Bros and broettes, when I am stoked on skating, I always go back and watch H-Street's Next Generation, the unedited footage of Danny Way on the Real Skate Stories youtube channel or any of Jason Rothmyer's parts.
>>256854 I skated for 25 years and never did a slappy, I quit right before they came cool. You could try a noseslide with or without a ollie those are pretty easy
More than anything in order to be a good skateboarder it seems you have to be good at falling. I got a fracture falling on flat ground, how do these guys do it?
Tried to drop in on a 3ft qp this morning bros Warmed up on a bank a few times until I got comfortable Fell off backwards 3 times in a row and psyched myself out. Ended up doing the splits, pulling my groin and landing on my palm bruising it all to hell, a very productive session
>>257193 I may try that next time, I'd just be worried about how I'd handle the roll back down if I'm unable to drop in, my presumption is that the exit from a tail stall is harder to control than a drop in. Also I'd need to up my switch game
>>257192 Sounds like you just aren't ready. How comfortable are you on your board otherwise? Can you push around and ride like it's second nature? Can you pump back and fore in a mini comfortably for as long as your legs will let you? If no, then do those things first and do them a lot, then go back and try again and it will be trivial. If you're slipping out on a bank when coming back down fakie, you just aren't ready. If you do luck out and make a drop in, you'll just get to the other side, panic and fall off or bail anyway (or slam before you evben get to the other side), it's just pointless. Get solid foundations first.
>>257211 I can come back out of a transition fakie fine, but I won't say I couldn't be more comfortable. There are no mini-ramp set ups around my way just isolated QPs, but I'll get down into the local bowl when nobody is around and do some more practice when I get the chance, it certainly couldn't hurt
>>257280 I can overcome the instinct on a medium bank but I think my lizard brain is wresting control back on the QP, I'm going to do what the other anon said and reinforce the forward angle of attack by pumping in the bowl before I try it again. Gotta let my limbs recover properly first though, I feel like I sprained my wrist and pulled a tendon in my knee and it fuggen sucks
Guys I just took a skateboard deck to the knee about 20 mins ago I’m in excruciating pain Should I visit a doctor I can walk barely but I have a huge ball next to my knee
>>257508 >become cool It's always been cool. When I was a kid I saw some guys doing flat ground tricks and thought "that's cool". I knew nothing of the "culture" or that it's edgy and alternative, it was just aesthetic.

Are cheap Walmart boards really entirely worthless as a beginner board? I know that the decks snap easily, but I haven't heard any serious complaints about the trucks, and cheap decks are always floating around on local used markets. Could be a decent starting point for someone who just wants to get to get the tip of their dick wet and see if it feels good before blowing all of their money.
>>257615 Depends how much money you have. I reckon most people 30 and up with steady jobs own about 2-3 set ups. I have 2 8.25's, one is my normal set up for general use and one has cruiser wheels for getting around. The cruiser one is almost pointless though and I've probably used it a handful of times in the last 5 years.
>>257627 You can get a perfectly reasonable complete setup for like £40 - £50 in the UK online. Cheaper if they're on sale. Just spend a little extra dough the difference is worth it
>>257280 >>257364 >>257364 Got back to the bowl this morning and ran into a few Vet skaters, they were kind enough to give me some pointers and got me doing some better pumping Haven't tried to drop in again, but my confidence is build ing back up again
I know the Tony Hawk Sig Series boards are shit, but could they still be worth if you get it for $15 second hand and only use it for basic board handling (pre-trick beginner board)?
>>257642 It makes sense to have a cruiser and an actual skateboard, but i mean in terms of skating on a real skateboard. Id imagine different wheel sizes/truck tightness depending on street or vert but idk i never got really into skateboarding where 2 or more skateboards made sense.
Beat a younger dude in SKATE today, first time I've played in ages, had to dig deep in my bag of tricks. Got him with a 360 flip, fakie heel, double kickflip, half cab heel, and a fakie tre was the dagger. We both had SKAT. GG homie.

I'll fix the bad joke >>257745 u meant "clock running slow" dorknut
I can't seem to transform my stationary ollies into rolling ollies guys, when I'm in motion I always seem to have too much weight forward or back and I can't find the sweet spot like I can when I'm stood still. Is this just a case of I need to feel it out again from scratch while rolling? I keep hearing people say that a rolling ollie is like a stationary one but the world is moving around you but it certainly doesn't feel that way
>>257816 >I can't find the sweet spot like I can when I'm stood still. >Is this just a case of I need to feel it out again from scratch while rolling? But you already know it, just do it.
>>257823 Just do your reps. How good are your stationary ollies anyway? Do you really have them down? I don't recall how my own progression from stationary to moving went, I put zero thought into it.
>>257816 Start off as slow as you possibly can. You need to readjust and compensate your body jump to follow with the board as its going forward. Thats how i did it. I cant ollie going really fast, but i can on a decent push.
>>257825 I can get some kind of pop and board lift 90% of the time, not perfect form though. I wouldn't say I "have them down" more that I *feel* like I'm comfortable enough with them to really try rolling. Perhaps that's hubris >>257826 My issue is that when I roll slowly I either end up coming to a complete stop before I csn get comforrable enough for my attempt or I end up rushing it and the board flies out in front or behind me because my centre of mass is off the back trucks
I know I just need to practice more and stop expecting miracles, I just get a bit frustrated when my progress seems to stagnate
>>257827 >My issue is that when I roll slowly I either end up coming to a complete stop before I csn get comforrable enough for my attempt or I end up rushing it and the board flies out in front or behind me because my centre of mass is off the back trucks Easy solution, gain enough momentum to have time to set up. But before that you need to go home and do your carpet ollies.
Is it realistic for a 24 yr old man to return to skating? Is it one of those things you never forget to do? I haven't skated since I was 14, but I went hard from ages 11 to 14. I just wanna know if I should give up on my dream of impressing cute teen girls at the skatepark with a kickflip...
Been skating for more than 10 years and there are still shit I am discovering. For example, my backside tail stalls were hail mary-stick it wherever. But today I was more determined than ever .and realised you have to look throughout the whole motion
>>257827 >My issue is that when I roll slowly I either end up coming to a complete stop before I csn get On some carpet try moving from pushing stance to both feet on your skateboard and ollie as fast as you can. Lrn2 quickly adjust your feet for an ollie
I couldn't wait to get home from school and practice my carpet skating. I was born into the carped, molded by it. I didn't see pavement until I could already kickflip.
>>257714 >>257715 there's a bunch of tricks that I've never had like tres, but I love pulling my bitch ass special moves like nollie 360 shuv or fakie varial heel
>>257850 if you do it for pussy you'll fail but I went back to skateboarding at 27 and I'm having more fun than ever and my fitness is peak
>>257921 Doing new things. You did a front blunt? Cool, now kickflip out. Now bigflip out. Now do it switch. Now get weird with it and try to inward bigheel out.
>>257905 Varial heel is one of those sketchy tricks that intellectually underdeveloped children are fond of, you're not supposed to say anything about them, just ignore it. When a child performs an impossible, boneless, front 50 to boardslide, any varial flip, you have to pretend you didn't see it and carry on. Whether it's harder than a 360 flip or not is irrelevant. But I love popping one of those ugly sonsabitches to save a game of S.K.A.T.E.
>>257906 >>257919 I whole-heartedly agree. I think I shall be practicing my nollie varial heels today, in my baggy work pants, listening to American 90s rap.
>>257921 Skateboarding doesn't attract the kind of people that possess the cognitive real estate you'd need to conceive of boredom, we're just content with getting to play with a piece of wood
Hi gang I'm still pretty new to skating, and the most advanced trick I can do is rolling down fakie and doing a full 180 so I'm back in my proper stance while going down a slope. I'm bad with some terminology though. I can do that both backside and frontside, whatever it's called. And I'm really great with tic tacs and I get more confident on my attempts to do manuals everytime. Yesterday I held a manual for .5 seconds it was pretty cool. Anyways what should I be practicing as I start to transition from just basic tic tacs and lifting the nose and going forward on the board. I'm very comfortable now skating with even just one foot on the board, so I think I've advanced enough after the past few months to start trying stuff. I can do that thing where you put both feet under the upside down board and you hop up flipping the board and landing on it, and i can do it without feeling like the board is going to zoom out from under me or that I'll break my spine or something. What I'm trying to ask, is other than the inherent constant practice you get just from casually skating, where should i start looking to get practice? Likenisnit too early to start practicing Ollie's? I'm almost certain there are fundamentals I'm missing before I do that. Like I have trouble jumping straight up while on the board. Every time i try to jump up, my feet are like kicking the board forward or backwards. Are you guys staring straight at your feet or just hoping you land right? Thanks for listening to my blog.
>>257940 >Likenisnit too early to start practicing Ollie's? Not at all, do them at home on the carpet. You can watch a tutorial where someone explains it, but in the end you'll only get it after many repetitions, and not a sequence you try to follow. Your brain already knows the sequence after seeing countless ollies.
>>257657 >go skating for the first time since monday >pull groin within 5 minutes >walk home god damn it i felt so good pushing. how long is this gonna take to heal
>>257940 It's not too early to learn ollies, but learning hippie jumps (just jumping off the board while rolling and landing back on it) is super useful and will help you with ollies later on.
Shove its are pretty easy for beginners, especially fakie. You can practice them on a carpet, or landing in a patch of grass at first if you just want to focus on landing on the board after it rotates.
Have you tried doing kickturns on banks/ramps? It's honestly one of the most useful things you can learn how to do on a skateboard if you have a skatepark you can go to. Actually, have you skated transitions at all? Going down slopes, pumping back and forth in a half pipe, etc.
Other shit that comes to mind: >learning to roll off of a curb (small manual with speed) >learning to roll up a curb (tiny manual to get the front trucks over the curb, then tiny nose manual to get the back trucks over) >nose & tail stalls on curbs >running and landing on your board with speed >cavemen >learning to slow down by dragging your back heel on the ground while holding a manual >pushing and rolling switch >nose pivots (you can already do tail pivots, right? If that's what you mean by rolling fakie & doing a 180)
Honestly try and spend some time on your board and "come up" with tricks, too. Obviously you'll find tricks that already exist, but part of the fun of skateboarding is learning to do something and thinking "oh wait, what if I do that the other way?" and that turning into something else.
>>257968 >>learning to roll off of a curb (small manual with speed) >>learning to roll up a curb (tiny manual to get the front trucks over the curb, then tiny nose manual to get the back trucks over) >>nose & tail stalls on curbs >>running and landing on your board with speed >>cavemen >>learning to slow down by dragging your back heel on the ground while holding a manual >>pushing and rolling switch >>nose pivots (you can already do tail pivots, right? If that's what you mean by rolling fakie & doing a 180) All of these you know how to do after you've learned to ollie and accepted yourself as a skater. >pushing and rolling switch This could be good though.
Mitchie Brusco and Skate IQ as a whole is the coolest shit man. I've never seen someone so seemingly genuinely interested in helping people. I've never bought any of his packages but his free shorts and videos are so insanely helpful. I think he'll be remembered extremely fondly in a few decades as a pillar of skateboarding.
>>257940 Watch early skateboarding videos, it's highly motivating to see pros doing super rocketed ollies because they were still getting a feel for the technical nuances. Makes me wanna go out and enjoy some sloppy rockets too. https://youtu.be/w3QqCkKwa50
I fucking hate Luis Mora's Erased and Aura and Lakai bullshit. All three of them are gay, reddit, and retarded. Erased and Aura especially have no direction or identity or a theme or anything at all. It's almost as dogshit as Revive. Looks like shitty Walmart shit.
>>258002 Economic forces shape society. That is the current superstructure of skateboarding, that's where we are. Jockified, sportified, red bull capped. Who can turn the tide but us?
>>258029 You don't need to confirm it. You already know it. It's called human communication. It's not codified like a legal argument. It's multilayered and it carries your history of experiences in interactions. You can already tell, I come off as someone who you wish you'be half as stoked or stoking.
>>257981 Think he’s already a pillar. Anyone learning how to skate will lean on his vids. He demystifies skating with chillness and kindness when historically the attitude in skating has mostly been “fuck office kook” or “get gud fag”
Is it possible to have started skating and gotten used to it with the wrong foot? Like I always rode goofy but what if I'm actually a regular prodigy? Or just in general I wonder if I'd have better control of everything with my right foot pushing and pivoting. Shame I can't even stand on the board with my left foot
im thinking of getting knee pads to skate But I’m afraid it might make my skating bad and I will look like an idiot Anyone else uses knee pads? Does it take a while to get used to them?
>>258225 A picture of young Netanyahu and the poster was urging the poster to whom they replied (the antihero link) to have the link connecting you to a picture of young netanyahu killing "retard child soldiers".
Obviously a troll post and we always remember Ryan Lay who made a part in Palestine (West Bank) with the local skate liaison who was also interviewed by Jenkemm.
>>257981 He's honestly great to watch even just as a teacher honestly. It's rare to see people who are so clearly one of the best in their fields (or were at a time) be so interested and passionate about teaching people, even complete beginners.
His skate clinics are honestly really interesting to watch just in term of pure pedagogy - he is incredibly good at 'abstracting' a situation, looking at a student and being to tell okay, this is the one specific thing you're doing wrong, and then being able to come up with different ways to help the student see in what way they're not doing it right in the first place, and then a plan for how to fix it.
I don't know, there's something cool about watching a great teacher be great at his job, be it teaching skateboarding or mathematics or music or whatever.
