go to a used section of a disc golf store or a play it again and have him grab a few putters and midranges. cost effective, tons of variety, and he will have a better time with lower speed discs. once he finds some stuff he likes/doesn't lose then buy new.

the quick, cheap & easy entry point is the Innova starter kit (aviar, shark, leopard version). walmart.com or amazon always has them <$25. Well rounded beginner disc choices and they usually come in lighter 150g weight for kids. I could think of a few autistic gripes about this set, but they don't really matter for a 10yo. Best selling set for 30+ years for a reason.
If you have a small boutique shop nearby, I'm sure the staff would be happy to help find good discs for a kid and give some tips.

if you wanna do the cheapest option, just get him a straight flying midrange and if his interest keeps up, buy him a few more different kinds
if you wanna spend a little bit more, get a lower speed fairway driver like the latitude explorer, and compliment that with a straight midrange like an innova nova or a latitude claymore, then a basic putter like the discmania p2 or p1. with just those 3 discs you can go very far, especially as a kid
