It's closer in tone and scale to F/SN and F/Zero.
It very much feels like an urban fantasy while Apocrypha doesn't feel like it takes place in the real world (but with magic). You could say the later entries jumped the shark going into full sci fi or fantasy, borderline superhero garbage with the obsession on servants.
Fate/Strange Fake is focused on servants (because it's a grail war) but these servants are culturally distinct with morals/personalities fitting for the hero they are based on. They are not just modern humans with superpowers and they don't go over the top into anime tropes to appeal to lonely Japanese men either.
Does any of this click or am I off the mark?
And for the rest of the thread; do you agree with this analysis? I originally thought Strange/Fake was going to be some sort of meme grail war but instead it feels more true to the original nasu work than any other writer's work.

FGO is scifi
FSN / FZ / FSF is urban fantasy + battle royale
Apoc is battle royale but more fantasy than UF
CF/Adventures is mystery fantasy
In fantasy, it's notorious because even 20 years of technological development is enough to throw people who don't like the genre off and a lot of people only like 1 genre.

ok but were the FGO movies actually sucessful?
I get the feeling all these years TM been aura farming their IP with FGO so they can gain enough traction and eyes on reworking old works and profit off of it. If Mahoyo were be released before covid, I bet people would be as excited about it as they are right now.
That being said Strange Fake is a very exception of the right time and pressure because if it werent for the fans who begged Narita for years to make the novel happen. SF is a huge risk for as a new IP and it is working, and hopefully it will steer TM in the right direction.

lol Nasu doubled down when Encore flop and ranted on his blog that the audience didnt try to understand his writing hard enough.
>>
>>286440172
The point of gacha adaptations is to get people into playing the gacha, not to adapt the whole thing and to earn money (and because the execs have likely stalled this shit for so long, it really impacts the integrity of the story). At least from Aniplex's point of view. From Nasu's point of view, he is probably just happy because he wanted to show off his favourite FGO OCs (namely Olga, Lev) on the screen. So it's successful on that front.
But I don't think these stories will actually get people into the franchise. For one thing, FGO is way too old and the continuity is convoluted. Self inserts and constantly getting new characters weaken the story
FSF is the latest instalment that can feasibly be read as a mainline story (of course, it is in a different timeline though. It can get new fans because it's standalone, effectively and I think it has been successful getting some newfags in. But regardless, I think after the grail dismantlement story, assuming that ever gets released, that's really pretty much the end of "mainline".) It's not a new IP. It's still a ""sequel"", but with extra steps because nasu can't help himself putting everything into new timelines. But it's not good to rely on gacha as the sole revenue source, so it's great to get new adaptations.
>>
>>286440368
>nasu can't help himself putting everything into new timelines
Nasu did that precisely because he wanted his friends to go wild without caring about canon
But all of them worship him like a god so they ended up sucking his narrative instead of making their own
>>
>>
>>
>>286440433
Nasu wanted to brag about his ability to expand on EXTRA bad end but then proceeded to embarrass himself because apparently writing a novel and writing anime are two different things that require different skills

God Hand may just him wade through enemies, given how many bonuses Nasu added early on.
>Fate/complete material III: World Material - The Servants of the Fifth Holy Grail War: Berserker, p.036-037
Noble Phantasm
God Hand: Twelve Labors
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit
Range: -
Maximum Targets:
A blessing of Gods, as well as a curse. It is a Noble Phantasm given to Heracles, representing immortality. This Noble Phantasm does not have an overt external manifestation such as a weapon or armour, but if you hazard to put a shape to it, the body itself can be called the Noble Phantasm. God Hand turns one’s body into a tough suit of armour and nullifies all attacks Rank B or lower, regardless the attack being physical or magical. It also has the effect of automatic resurrection after death. Because the resurrection effect has 11 uses, Heracles cannot perish unless killed 12 times. In addition, due to Illya’s immense magical energy, given enough time, the lives lost can also be regenerated.
Resurrection as well as attack-nullification. Besides these two effects, God Hand also possesses a third effect: rendering an attack that it has experienced before useless. Regardless how powerful is the Noble Phantasm that defeated Heracles, it would be completely nullified after he resurrects.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>286439315
Tone is correct, but the reason can be summed up better. FSF is a grail war. That is functionally what made Fate Zero successfully. They played into the war premise itself. Unlike Apo which turbo-focused on servants and made homogenous groups, FSF is appropriately divided because every servant team has their own agendas, even if they coincide. FSF does not ignore the urban fantasy aspect and keeps its masters relevant. You have more character with Zealot and Sigma than the bulk of Apocrypha, which was just servant vs servant.
FSF has its own issues though, but it's a definite step up.
>>
>>286440951
>Besides these two effects, God Hand also possesses a third effect: rendering an attack that it has experienced before useless. Regardless how powerful is the Noble Phantasm that defeated Heracles, it would be completely nullified after he resurrects.
This got retconned into just increasing resistance

I like APO but you're right, FSF has more developed characters and it feels like a true war.
I'd like to read the Apo sequel manga, though with Sakura being adopted by the Edelfeldt's instead of the Matou's and now she's the Lucha Libre tag team partner with ungodly proportions of the hot blonde from Lord El-Melloi Case Files. But they probably don't even appear.

Nasu still said immunity
>Q: Is Berserker's "immunity against an attack he has experience before" an ability of his Noble Phantasm, or is it due to his ability to see through the attack?
>A: The answer is that, it is a result of both the resilience of his body, as well as his techniques. God Hand has the ability to make Berserker's body immune against an attack after it has been damaged once by the said attack. Also, Berserker himself possesses the skill to see through an attack he has witnessed before. However, due to Mad Enhancement, this "technique of a swordsman" is sealed. As a result, he can only count on the ability of God Hand.
>>
>>
>>
>>286441255
Apo, when you think about it, was doomed from the start.
>Black faction is your typical arrogant mage group that understand nothing of servants or functional relationships.
These guys are basically the kayneth of the war, but it's literally all of them so none of them stand out and are made useless very quickly
>Red faction's masters all got the boot without even appearing
Doomed from the start. Fate is a story about growth at its core. The heroic spirits existed to foster growth in humans and achieve a fleeting, yet different conclusion for said heroic spirits who had been given a second chance. Zero understood the assignment. Apocrypha did not. The character element is mostly absent.

People still talking old lore, not realizing how godhand works anymore. There's a reason Saber alter could kill him a dozen times at the same time in HF movie. godhand can no longer give immunity to anything. Things can no longer be nullified, just "resisted slightly"
His NP lost its two biggest facets
>Q: With Berserker's Noble Phantasm God Hand, you gain resistance to an attack once you're hit by it, but do you only gain this resistance by having died once? Would the same attack be effective multiple times as long as it was before he died? <Madao Gingetsu>
>Nasu: You don't have to die. For example... if you were to take fire damage, once you recover you would gain +100 resistance to fire.
>Takeuchi: Oh, feels like it has been toned-down. Wouldn't it have completely nullified it before?
>Nasu: I said it won't work, but I don't think I've ever said it'll be negated. BB: "Mine is to nullify all attacks, Macho-san's is to triple his defense! What's the difference!?" Heracles: "It's not even close (to your hacked ability)!"
>Takeuchi: No matter how you put it, it's an overpowered skill.
>>
>>
>>286441395
That's a very good summary. The Red team got the shaft, FSF is giving us somewhat of what we were denied in Apo with all these Servants AND Masters. The Apo writer must have been lazy and just gave 6/7th's of the Servants to that guy.
>>286441425
I could have used more development for the Blacks. I felt sorry for that poor lad who was sacrificed by Caster for his golems early on. But Vlad was my favorite character on that whole squad.

>Leave all the servants to me
King Hassan and Shiki can kill him with the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception
Azrael can just inflict the concept of death on him
Literally any servant with an anti-fortress / anti-army NP can kill him because Hollow Purple, a city block level attack, was capable of killing Mahouraga
>>
>>
>>286441176
It's basically the same. He abbreviated it to "triples his defense".
So suddenly doing 66% less damage per. Pretty good cut. Something that kills him 6 times over the first time can only kill him 2 times the next, and won't even kill him when used a third time.
>>
>>
>>286441447
Shirou already killed multiple lives in one go in Fate Route with Caliburn.
God Hand only gains immunity after resurrection, but Caliburn burned through multiple lives in an instance, because it dealt multiple instance of lethal damage before resurrection finishes.
Sort of like FMA's anime Greed's weakness.

Is Sigurd related to Siegfried in the Fateverse. I listened to a Norse Myth audio book a few summers back on the Volsungs and it was some depressing shit. IIRC Sigurd was the son of Siegfried and Siegfried's sister conceived while he was under an illusion. That's where the Excalibur movie got a similar scene with Arthur and Morgan Le Fay who had Mordered.

In the VN it was never clear how many lives Saber Alter took
People always assumed she only took like maybe one or two lives with the Shadow's help and the Shadow did the rest until he got absorbed

Their stories are intimately related but they are not the same. Gram and Balmung are different swords, Brunnhilde and Brynhildr are different people as well. But they are both dragon slayers who killed Fafnir. How can two men slay one dragon? Well it turns out Fafnir is more like a phenomenon, anyone who is utterly consumed by greed to the depths of their soul becomes Fafnir.

>Kokku's Question: If Shirou's Nine Lives Blade Works projection managed to mortally wound Berserker, why didn't Archer, who can make more projections than Shirou, use it when fighting Berserker, even in other routes? Is it because normal Berserker would just block it?
>Nasu: Think of it like this: the only reason Berserker's own sword techniques could be turned against him is because he has been darkened, which caused him to lose both his reasoning and battle instincts. On the other hand, normal Berserker's instincts would make it possible to counter Nine Lives Blade Works with the exact same techniques, effectively turning all the nine strikes back on his opponent. That's a scary thought!

I want an adaptation of the Lostbelt Prologue and Lostbelt 1.
18-24ish episodes. Start right after Solomon with Gudao covering up his involvement in the Singularity Crisis so he doesn't get a Sealing Designation put on him by the Clocktower.
Then jump to the slaughter of Chaldea, focus a lot on Anastasia's involvement (build her as a big bad), Da Vinci's sacrifice, and Gudao fleeing the damaged remnants of Chaldea as they take in the post apocalyptic landscape that the world is now.
Open up on the next episode with Kadoc's speech about him and the rest of the crypers betraying humanity to side with the Alien Goddess so that they can forge a new path for humanity. While Kadoc is getting his speech, there should be flashbacks to the alien invasion and the slaughter of humanity.
Then have Gudao and his companions travel to Russia to begin the process of dismantling the Lostbelts so that they can save humanity.
Swap to Kadoc's pov and establish his inferiority complex, his time in the Singularity Crisis simulations, his romance with Anastasia, and the anxiety he has that his Lostbelt King isn't listening to him.
Swap back to Gudao and focus on the bond be builds with the civilians as he and his servants work to destroy the lostbelt. Atalanta should get a lot of screentime so her eventual betrayal hurts
Fast forward to the final battle with Anastasia and Kadoc. Drop the bombshell that Gudao will have to genocide the populace of each Lostbelt population to save humanity. Focus on how it mindbreaks him. And how even despite this, Gudao will soldier on to save humanity even if that means he must become a monster
End the final scene on Twinkle Twinkle little star as Saleri plays it for the Lostbelt Population as they wait to be wiped out of existence.
If done right, this could be KINO

I don't get how you're supposed to counter Nine Lives, when it's literally nine simultaneous attacks.
There's literally no time to react. Zero. I could understand reacting to one strike. But it should be impossible to dodge the other 8 blows, especially when Artoria, a top tier swordsman with Instinct (supernatural battle instinct), struggled to block 3 simultaneous sword slashes from Kojiro
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>286442040
Living Kojiro doesn't just do three slashes but 'infinite', so he could probably counter Nine Lives.
Then again, Nine Lives got wanked to hell and beyond in SF, to the point that Herc could probably kill the machine gods or possibly Tiamat or Bat King or White Titan Sefar.
>>

>Nine Lives and Tsubame ain't the same thing at all.
Fundamentally they are. Nine Lives is nine simultaneous sword slashes, while Tsubame Gaeshi is three simultaneous sword slashes.
The only real difference is that Tsubame Gaeshi is explicitly done with the Second True Magic since it's one slash + two slashes from other dimensions all being launched at the exact same time.
Nine Lives is the same shit. There's just no True Magic element to it.
Silly, I know. I used to think Nine Lives was nine concurrently slashes done in rapid succession until I saw the Heaven's Feel movies and saw Nine Lives portrayed as ONE sword slash. I pondered around, talked to some other anons about it, and did my own research and I found that Nine Lives was basically Kojiro's technique but 3x better.
It makes sense when you think about it considering that Hercules created that technique to kill a Hydra before it's heads could regenerate.

I wasn't making an argument, and there's no argument to be made. It's from the gacha, nobody knows why, and it looks like indiscernable overdesigned shit. it's not worth a second thought because gachas are objectively trash. And FGO is notorious for using sketches and concept art submitted by artists as final versions.
>>
>>
>>286443845
Every writer writes their own characters in FGO
Higashide writes Apocrypha characters
Narita writes FSF characters
Sakurai writes Prototype characters
Meteo writes Requiem characters
Each writer pretty much ONLY writes their own characters with a few notable exceptions.
Pretty much all Fate information and lore for the past ten years has been from FGO
People here try to massively downplay FGO and call none of it canon, and all of it should be disregarded, that's mostly just cope.
The Richard Lion stuff is explained in FGO despite what people here say "there is no reason???", also its alluded to in FSF itself. Saint Germain talks about if Richard was summoned as Rider or Berserker he wouldn't be as noble.

Adapting game mechanics to lore implications, the ability would be something like sealing a servant's personal skills until they use their Noble Phantasm, essentially powering down any foe until they agree to reveal their trump card. If it did indeed work like that, that would mean that anyone who doesn't immediately go all-out against Herc would be kneecapped until they show off their best move.
Given that Nasu said that no technique works against sane Herc twice, likely due to his individual skill and Eye of the Mind, this means that you would NEVER get to fight Herc at full power because he locks you out of skills unless you use your NP, but once you use your NP it's unlikely it will ever work on him again, so you won't get to use it in concert with your skills. It'd be one hell of a combination, and that's setting aside the valuable info you gain by baiting out NPs.

Giljobber was indeed about to counter the Hydra stuff but against Gugalanna we are told the Nine Lives that Alcides uses against Gilgamesh was some weak shit compared to the ones used against Gugalanna even before using the River NP from King's Order. That battle was far from decided.

>Alcides couldn't touch Gil without a God's help
Gilfag blatantly ignoring for the thousandth time that Alcides damaged Giljob's armor in their first encounter, even with his lightning system activated.
>>
>>286453172
I think it'd be fine if he didn't have King's Order. King's Order are HERACLES' accomplishments. In throwing away his name and legacy, Alcides should have to build a new legacy using Reincarnation Pandora rather than just getting all of his other half's things as well. It'd be thematically interesting if the only thing he had aside from RP was the martial arts style ingrained in his body in Nine Lives so that he had to build his stock of NPs from the ground up. Just say something like he has to have, in essence, defeated a foe to steal their NP and give him a limit of 12 of them at max as a parallel to Herc's Labors.
>>
>>
>>286454355

>In throwing away his name and legacy, Alcides should have to build a new legacy using Reincarnation Pandora rather than just getting all of his other half's things as well.
Why? That's just retarded. He should have everything except his divinity.
>>
>>
>>
>>286454595
Because they aren't his accomplishments. Everything Heracles did was under his name, in the honor of Hera, for goals that Heracles himself cared about. Alcides should shun them just as much as he shuns his own name and blood because they are proof of the accolades of a man named Heracles.
>>
It's not hard to understand
>Gilgamesh found a way past the pelt and was pressing Alcidies, managing to damage him
>Alcidies was cornered and had to go all in on nine lives hydra mode, he had to take a gamble to overturn the situation
>Gilgamesh claims he has an NP that can block it or negate the poison so he's not really worried, he starts to pull out the NP
>The gates get locked, so Gilgamesh can't pull it out
>It's the only reason he had to take the hit, but even after being poisoned he's still in pretty good shape
>He says he can use the weapons already out of the gate to counter the the poison and deal with this, but then Huwa uses its panic voice ability thing
>And the other two jump gilgamesh
If ishtar hasn't stepped in Gilgamesh would have blocked nine lives and would have had a pretty decisive advantage
The entire irony of the character is despite hating the gods he still wins through divine intervention mostly
Story says Gilgamesh would have had the advantage of nothing got in the way

>Gilgamesh found a way past the pelt and was pressing Alcidies, managing to damage him
Gilgamesh begins to attack differently, so Alcides begins to evade differently, causing Gilgamesh's new attacks to have no effect again, as indicated in the novel. And as usual, you lie by saying that he damages Alcides. You won't find a single paragraph in the novel that says Gilgamesh managed to hurt or even scratch Alcides. In fact, it's the opposite. Alcides is the one who lands the first blow in the first encounter, and you'll have to live with that, which is why it angers you so much.
>He says he can
Once again proving that you never read the novel and are trying to fool us.
Gilgamesh does not say that he is able to counteract the poison with the weapons he had already released from GoB. IT IS THE NARRATIVE THAT SAYS, “Gilgamesh, refusing to despair, TRIED to gather his already used Noble Phantasms to counteract NINE LIVES.” This is before he hears Huwawa's scream and is hit by the arrows. Why are you lying?
>Even after being poisoned he's still in pretty good shape
As the novel narrates, Giljob had to make an effort to stay in place while fighting the pain and sweating cold, and what's worse, Ishtar orders all of Alcides' arrows aimed at GILGAMESH'S VITAL POINTS to be intercepted. The poison was the least of Giljob's worries because he was already going to be dead before the poison even took effect.

First encounter? It was a sneak attack. It wasn't a fight and Gil managed to wear his armor and raise his hand to block it. Alcides is confirmed slower than UBW HUMAN Shirou since he managed to cut Gil's arm off.
>This is before he hears Huwawa's scream and is hit by the arrows. Why are you lying?
Backtracking already? >>286454707
>Giljob had to make an effort to stay in place while fighting the pain and sweating cold, and what's worse, Ishtar orders all of Alcides' arrows aimed at GILGAMESH'S VITAL POINTS to be intercepted.
So Alcides' Nine Lives+From Hell+Hydra Poison was so weak that Gil was still able to move and struggle? And why are you ignoring the point that Alcides only managed to hit Gil due to Huwawa and Ishtar's inteference?

Optimistic chivalry, some madness, some decent MR and luck. Basically the same chivalry and knight skills package as other knights but there is not the self-blame like KotR. Common decent stats and riding from knights. Astolfo and Roland and maybe others are kind of insane so who knows if that helps and they luck into good situations for some reason. Fortune favors the bold, probably. All have decent MR which is common to knights but Astolfo and Bradamante seem to have special skills/NPs for it. Maybe resisting random magic nonsense is important.

>Arthur the Less or Arthur the Little (Arthur le Petit) is an illegitimate son of King Arthur ("Arthur the Great") found only in the Post-Vulgate Cycle. After Arthur forces himself on a daughter of a knight named Tanas, he orders the child to be named either Guenevere or Arthur the Less. Having been abandoned and raised by a foster mother, the boy appears at Arthur's court on the eve of the Grail Quest when his arrival is miraculously prophesied at the Round Table. He is knighted by Tristan and soon proves to be superior to even Gawain and Perceval, defeating both of them. However, he is publicly known only as the Unknown Knight, keeping his lineage secret as to not shame his father with the story of his mother's rape. Loyal to King Arthur (who is eventually informed about his son's identity by Morgan), he fights in the late wars against domestic and foreign enemies, and is one of Galahad's companions during the Grail Quest. After his father's death at Salisbury, Arthur the Less is a candidate for the heir of throne of Logres, however, he obsessively hates Lancelot's renegade faction, blaming them for the disaster. When soon defeated by Bleoberis in a duel to the death, he curses the entire kingdom in his dying breath. His curse manifests itself through King Mark's devastating invasion which destroys almost all remnants of King Arthur's rule.
They've got Saberfaces lying in wait that the average man can only scarcely imagine.

Sacraments depend on the user's belief and Ciel is something of a reddit atheist comparative to Amakusa being a devout true believer. They both get mogged by Kirei though

Every servant should be able to in theory, though it depends on the master and the conditions of their summoning. Servants affirm human history whereas DA reject it, so it depends on who's got more mystery behind them I suppose. Maybe some shit like A+ rank Noble Phantasms only (Rip Garcher)

Vampire shit is so obnoxiously overbearing in Tsukihime that it's rather impossible for the two worlds to coexist. Even Mahoyo and KnK can't really exist well within Tsukihime because Vampires act and are written about like they're the number 1 priority 24/7.
>DA of high rank walks into a town
>casually eats all the citizens overnight, walks off
The Clocktower shouldn't even be able to exist in Tsukihime with the same impunity that it does in Fate/ even with Zelretch being a superior DAA to everyone save Altrouge, Primate Murder, and ORT

>Every servant should be able to in theory
Most Servants won't be able to kill a fully fed rank VI. A rank VI DA is powerful enough where even if the Church sends multiple Executors it doesn't matter, they simply destroy the entire city and move to their next hunting ground.
A decent Executor is already Servant-level, as seen by Karabo in Case Files who explicitly surpassed Faker in actual combat skills.
DAA are on a different level compared to Servants.
>so it depends on who's got more mystery
The rejection of the Human Order is so strong in TsukiR worlds that Servants are impossible to summon. So that alone tells you how a Servant compares with a DAA in terms of rejection vs affirmation.
There is a reason the anime entry on DAs literally states you need something other than a Servant to defeat a DA.
DAAs have also been accumulating power for hundreds to thousands of years whereas Servants have a bit of power from the Grail + their Master. So it would be laughable to compare them as far as energy reserves goes, which is the biggest factor in these kinds of fights.

>A decent executor is already servant level
>Kirei loses to the weakest servant of the 5th HGW, Assassin, despite being a prodigious executor
Maybe Executors are just more powerful in Tsukihime. Faker is also kind of weaker than your average servant I think, on account of not being proper history.
Fair on your 2nd point, though I think certain servants like Grand Candidates might have a decent chance if they could be summoned or if some giga-mage rolls around.

Kirei had a really good performance against Cursed Arm, and even bested him more than once. The reason given for him being unable to kill Cursed Arm was because you need an NP-equivalent like a Scripture to kill spiritual entities high in mystery.
>Maybe Executors are just more powerful in Tsukihime
This is something Narita stated, but also Kirei himself is stated to be a B-ranked Executor with there being three tiers of Executors above his own.
>on account of not being proper history.
That would apply to Emiya too.

Vlad has more weaknesses than an average Dead Apostle due to human imagination. For example, Nasu said garlic does not work on Dead Apostles but will actually harm Vlad. This is why Dead Apostles in Tsukihime can eat curry without dying while Vlad would shit himself from eating curry.

Before the English took over the original Celtic / Welsh version of King Arthur, Arthur was merely the leader of a band of hunters and rangers that protected the land from monsters and there was no adult drama like adultery. The English decided to nerf everyone once they got their hands on Arthur from the Welsh. For example, Kay could turn himself into a giant and have solar hands as a Celtic but once Kay turned English, he lost most of his magical powers and became just a sarcastic shit talker.
