No, this is much better, thank you. They will eventually shit this thread up with their blue-haired 'sexy catgirl' pervert faggotry, but it doesn't have to be in the OP where we have to see it in the catalog.
That wall of mugs looks good and I will post some OC of mine.

I've always wondered how tasting notes work, are they just from the cupping, from the producer?most roasters ship their coffee before it's rested so how do they come up with the notes that may be there round 3-4weeks later when the coffee ''peaks''?

>most roasters ship their coffee before it's rested so how do they come up with the notes that may be there round 3-4weeks later when the coffee ''peaks''?
They do several sample roasts when they get greens to determine how the coffee should be roasted. They aren't just guessing roast profiles or roasting everything the same.
>are they just from the cupping
yes
> from the producer
producers have no idea how roasters are going to roast their coffee

Do you guys also find that SL28 beans have a somewhat distinct aftertaste? I feel like I'm getting it with this type of bean from different roasters
Its a bit less noticable on the last bag that I bought, but I'm still not sure that I like it

Got hit on by a gay barista for the nth time. Really fucking depressing. Why can it never be a girl? I can't tell if it's me or if it's the hobby in general. Which aspects of coffee are manly? Moka pots? Espresso and v60 must be gay. They just must be.

You've been agonizing for two months about spending ~$70 on shit you'll use daily for years. You have zero need for flowrate on a pourover scale. You're not making espresso.

I guess we'll always have the anon that pushes really hard for robusta, or the anon that thinks nordic coffee that was invented in denmark is a british conspiracy.

Pulled some minmax french roast Lerida Loma from the freezer. Glacial water, little bit of buffer and magnesium sulfate + magnesium chloride. Oh its washed panama gesha alright. Exceptionally clean and citrusy. Delicate. Soft(probably more from the silica in the water). Can't wait to switch it up soon and bust into the 96hr anaerobic wush wush stash.
>At his washing station, Israel uses a proprietary anaerobic fermentation protocol he's dubbed "alcoholic" due to the crisp, winey cups it produces.

im new to coffee
bought some dark roast colombia decaf and it is supposed to be fruity and sweet and i think i pretty much nailed the brewing (v60) but i still dont like it.
at first when i didnt know dark roasts and decafs especially were supposed to be <=90C it tasted very acidic and over time i got to a point where it's very coffee like but a bit more interesting when hot and it tastes like an orange but a bit less sweet when it cools down but its not a pleasant taste to me. i know dark roast is not ideal for v60 but am i still ass at brewing or is it supposed to be citrusy and sharp?

Anyone ever get a toasted cumin note in your coffee? Brewed a pourover today and the toasted cumin scent was so strong I thought I had gotten some cumin in my grinder or brewer. I had to smell all my coffee equipment to doublecheck. It's funny 'cause yesterday's cup was pretty normal. It's not even specialty coffee, just supermarket single-origin.

Have to bloom HIGH (204 F or so) to get those notes, then pour lower (176-185F). Get the Hario Dark flow rate papers if you really want to get into the weeds. Otherwise try the above but French Press.

i've been doing hot bloom but the lowest i've gone with water is like 87-88C, i'll try 85C
my kettle only does increments of 5C below 90C so i kind of have to kind of wing it
I do 45s bloom 1:3 ratio and i'm not sure if i should pour it as slow as possible so it doesnt dry up or just pour, swirl and let it sit exposed for 20 seconds
>Get the Hario Dark flow rate papers if you really want to get into the weeds
i bought it before i knew dark roasts are not ideal for v60, by accident too since it's an espresso roast

I used my superautomatic to make a hazelnut syrup iced skim milk latte.
It was okay. I'm trying to finish off the syrup because it's not that good. I switched to skim milk for dietary reasons.. I might switch to Light milk, it's not that much different in calories but actually has some fat for flavour.
>>
>>21878329
The difference in skim and whole in a latte (~6oz milk) is only like 40 cals. That's barely anything. You could cut that out anywhere else and have an actually decent drink. Definitely less cals than in your syrup.

if you ask for espresso at a cafe anywhere in the world (except maybe coffee bars in italy) they will pull a double which is usually 18g.
even if you ask for a single shot there is a high chance they pull 18g but just give you half of the yield.

Made the worst coffee I have ever made today.
I wanted a coffee that didn't filter out the oil with a paper filter. Think french press, but I wanted pour over flavour so I busted out the chemex and a re-usable metal filter.
Forgot how bad it chokes, and I ground for V60. Choked the metal filter almost immediately. Fuck it, how bad could it be? Well, 10 minute draw down and it literally tasted like fucking grass.

It's time I finally graduate from my entry level hand grinder
Do I got ZP6 or DF54 if I don't care about espresso? No I don't mind hand grinding every cup so the DF54 doesn't gain any points over the ZP6 for being electric I just want grind performance
Are these two grinders even comparable? They're around the same price and are both talked about a lot as being amazing value for money and making great cups
>>
>>
>>21889096
Common consensus I've seen online is that it does pourover and brewed coffee very well and I guess looking around the Ode 2 is actually only another £50 compared to the DF54 so I should probably be asking about that compared to the ZP6
>>
>>21889107
Theyve said the same thing about baratza encores for 15ish years. Id be looking at a df64 with aftermarket burrs(ssp, lebrew) if youre not going hand grinder. Zp6 will be a very different presentation.
https://espressoaf.com/guides/burr_catalog.html
https://www.robertasami.com/burrtopia
>>
>>21889125
A DF64 with SSP burrs is in a completely different realm in terms of budget though. The DF64 alone is double the price of the ZP6 never mind the burrs on top of that
The ZP6 and Gen 2 Ode and especially the DF54 are at least comparable in price

I'm not against spending good money to get something good in return but from what I've heard there's extreme diminishing returns once you approach the $250-300 range and you don't see many big improvements until you spend a whole lot more than that so I'd rather stick around that budget if the performance is there I mostly just want to know what the difference between the ZP6 and similarly priced electric grinders is because I already know the ZP6 is evergreen in terms of quality that's why I'm using it as my sort of benchmark because I don't want a small improvement from what I have, I want something good
I've got a shitty Timemore C2 and the grind distribution is so terrible I can't get a consistent cup no matter the brew method or the coffee used. One cup will taste great and then I'll grind the same beans on the same setting and brew it the same and it'll suddenly be way more bitter.
>>
>>21889216
>just want to know what the differece is
Zp6 is designed with large outfalls. Thats means at its finest setting, its still spitting out pourover sized grinds and minimal fines. Excels at clean, hyperclear, light roast coffee. This is very different than a high fines high rpm blender of a df54 thatll spit out tons of fines for textured, muddy espresso that may be preferable for dark roast milk drinks. Ode 2 is a fancy looking box with a weak motor(wont hold up to grinding espresso fine) and a burr set that targets more middle of the road, medium roast pourover coffee. Youre paying for the Fellow name and get an american company to bitch at if shit breaks prematurely. Your c2 will be most similar to the df54.
>>
>>21889245
I've got nothing against the flavour I'm getting from the C2 when it decides to grind ok and not give me a bitter cup for no reason. I'm mostly seeking a consistent grind profile and better burr adjustment since the steps on the C2 are enormous which I suppose every grinder in this price range will get me those things
I don't exclusively drink light roasts but I never go any darker than a medium light/medium roast brewed either pourover, moka pot or the oxo rapid brewer so maybe the ZP6 isn't the best choice for me

I think if you drink first thing in the morning both your brain and your tastebuds aren't fully woken up yet and you'll likely a bit dehydrated so the flavor is more dulled. Even waiting an hour or two after waking up makes a big difference.

light roast, v60 02, abaca white, 15 clicks timemore c3s (~550μm supposedly), 1:2.5 bloom 45s bloom 95C rest at 93C

Atomic Coffee Roasters are solid roasters for a reasonable price
Think ~50 bucks for 2 lb of a single origin ethiopian compared to ~65-70 bucks from "better" roasters like Onyx (their Tropical Weather is usually my go to) or Verve (my favorite roaster)
