Endgame Watch - Edition.
Post your will-be endgame-watch. Did you already buy it? Tell us more because:
This thread offers a forum to discuss and debate wristwatches, pocket watches, and clocks. Several members here are highly knowledgeable in specified areas of horology, so please contribute to the thread by asking questions and/or asking for advice if you are planning on purchasing a watch from an AD or the grey market. Please post pics of your watches here; it doesn't matter if it's worth 5$ or 50000$, because there might be someone who wishes to eventually purchase the same model that you own and would love to hear some real-world advice regarding ownership. The experience matters the most, not the price.
Everyone is welcome in this thread, because we are all Frens here.

There was this Brazilian guy in late 2010s who convinced many /wt/ users (through sheer spam and determination) that a specific store in Tokyo, Japan sells cheap non-franken vintage watches and that he bought quite a few from there. He guided many users from here to that specific store (I think it's closed now, can't find it on c24 anymore) and well, after a while and many, MANY sold watches later, an experienced user opened the watch and found a different movement inside his vintage grand Seiko than what was supposed to be in. Other users later found out re-polished cases, different backs, wrong crystals etc. turns out this Brazilian guy, whuertantonio, was working there all along. Brazil has a big community in Japan so it makes sense. And obviously many users here are still mad about it.
Some users believe that antonio is still around and spams specific watches for people to buy them. Notice how it's only Japanese watches? Especially the Weekdater guy. It's a team of 5-6 people on a discord server selling watches.

NTA, but how the fuck are you actually DEFENDING your goddamned Citizen spam? I didn't know you could even post normally and interact with us regular people.
I'm always on the look out for new words, but 'Tsundere' was fucking embarrassing to even see. There's a fucking anime drawing right there next to the faggy definition. Bishojo?? What the fuck?
You're officially way too into the weeby stuff when you're just throwing around sad, made-up words about yourself from another culture.
Stop being so heavy handed with that one fucking watch you can't stop posting.

Actually, I'm white; and I only wear "Citizen Promaster" powered by advanced solar-cell technology. I don't know why you're going on about judaism. Are you perhaps a hebrew? It would explain your short, coarse, animal like arm hair - and insufferable, juvenile personality.
You see, I've owned and sold more watches then you could possibly hope to buy on your benefits card - that makes me not only an informed buyer, but an expert in the subject.
Take note of the precision, tool grade titanium on my "Citizen Promaster"; I knew buying this time-piece on discount was smart move. With full box and papers, its value would only increase after it was discontinued; and by my wearing it, my personal reputation and status would only add to its provenance.
I pay in full, in person, at an authorized dealer; ensuring I get a quality product.
I would never buy a time-piece on a shady platform like "Aliexpress"; or support international freemasonry in any way.
Maybe you should take a long look at yourself, and think about making better decisions with your money - and your mouth, before someone - like me - decides you need to take a nap.
- Citizen Promaster Owner, Outdoorsman.

It just dawned on me; Tudor is actually better than Rolex.
Tudor is a master chronometer while Rolex is "superlative". What does that mean in practise? Rolex doesn't even do third party certification on them, instead they do their own testing and deem it "better".
I'm so glad I went with my BB54, after getting it, I don't even think about Rolex. In a world where Rolex screams status, Tudor whispers taste. A Rolex is the billboard of success, but Tudor? It’s the secret handshake of those who know better. You pay less, yet get a sibling forged in the same fires—Swiss precision, timeless design, and none of the "look-at-me" hysteria. A Tudor is a poet's watch; a Rolex, a salesman’s pitch. Why spend double to impress strangers when you could spend less and impress yourself?

I love the square hands. In fact, I think it's an incredible design decision, in an esoteric sense. The hands being straight lines with corners over a round dial which has round hour markers anchored between rectangles at 3, 6, and 9 with a triangle tethering the 12 up top is fantastic, to me. Nature loves curves, spirals, and circles, whether in living things or physics. The dial and round markers being the backdrop, the "world", for the straight edge geometric designs of man's designs (which are mostly square, cube, and grid-based) giving structure to the telling of time on the dial is perfect, for me. The dial and the round markers are the world in its rotations and orbit, the square parts anchor our time telling and points of reference on it. It's great.

the word manlet is really funny to me because i've never heard the word "manlet" uttered from the mouth of anyone who was ever much of a man. it always seems more like its projection coming from deeply insecure individuals who hardly even know what being a man means because they didn't even have a dad around.
men worth actually looking up to and respecting to be focused on themselves. normal people don't even know what a "manlet" is. it's really only the söyjack looking redditors, sukeban women, r9k incels and fatherless brownskins who use that vernacular. if i'm wrong post a timestamped face pic.
does anyone ever ask themselves: why would i ever take the biggest losers who ever lived seriously?
i can't imagine.
z0mg some kissless loser called me a name on 4chins im sad ;_;

the guy you replied to is a zoomer jeet twink who shits up this board constantly because he has nothing going on with his life. half of /fa/'s posts per day are made by him.the earliest i can find of him, he used to plague the watch thread for years rambling about "schizos" all the time and obsessing over some anon in florida that he didn't like.then he discovered doug and started spamming doug threads constantly.jeet anon is known to sit in threads like skincare general and balding general shilling tranny hormones and misdiagnose people. he's also known to samefag and encourage suicide in the thinspo thread. and stuff like that.he thinks he's on some tard quest to "make the next lolcow" and he's clearly been groomed by one of those 764 style COM cults.and then one day he started fixating on me because i called out a bunch of posts in the balding thread that were giving bad medical advice and misdiagnosing people.doug stopped posting around that same time, so he's been obsessing over me and dedicating like 6-8 hours per day to ruining the denim thread ever since because he has nothing in his life.at some point he started spamming my pics and saying he would "kill me in one punch" and started commenting on how i look "weak" and "like a ftm" and calling me a manlet all the time.i let him do his gay cringe little internet tough guy routine for a year or so before i mentioned that i box and i would murder him lol. go find his pic on the archive if you're curious i would literally break this kid in half haha.i just laugh at him because i know he's brown, incel and has a sad life.

If any of this "lore" about any of these legendary former posters was true, there'd be evidence. You'd have saved up screenshots of all the stuff these people did and posted.
But it all just exists in your mind. There were never any 'drunkwhorebittertadellos' or whatever here. No one knew one randumb poster from the next.

shittercel was seething about discussion of old anons in the op of his latest shitter thread. now whines in this thread at the mere mention of something from the /wt/ past. this is just one facet of his annoyance, in fact he is annoyed whenever discussion does center around him, he thinks because he now has amassed a large collection he should be center stage at all times and generally popular, possibly even treated as some sort of expert. our validation means a great deal to him, which is unfortunate since he is a bumbling retard and enormous faggot.
his sobriety is next to fail, i think, hes beginning to spiral.

It's real.
It's frightening to me that A. People can't tell a real one from a fake one.
And B. I don't think I'd be able to tell from a picture myself.
I'm glad checked everything registration wise at the AD's... –I had it fitted for my right wrist -they use a Rolex app or something like that – and now I began using on my left wrist maybe I should check with the AD if there's any difference...
The look on their faces when I told them I wanted to have it engraved...
"It'd lose a lot of value!"... I don't give a flying fuck about "value" I'm never parting with it...

Man, it’s been a LONG while since the last time we had someone try to play off a fake Sub as real.
I think it was that guy who claimed to be an airline pilot and said his mom bought him the watch?

>I don't even think about [insert watch here]. In a world where...
well its been 6 months, ie: the six month test, and low and behold, yesterday was looking into the Red Trump watch, and was curious about the value appreciation or retention, wjen I compared Trump watch. 500 USD vs Hamilton Murph watch, 100k USD. Over the six month period I though about the Hamilton Murph watch, MAYBE ABOUT 10 TIMES in six months. Hamilton Murph passed the 6 month test, so I'm going to pull the trigger on the Hamilton.
BTW: Trump red watch parts are made in china, and while the movememnt seems respected, the china movement does not command 500 USD. btw: Not a political post, just a watch post.

every once in a while a reviewer says something that changes how you look at a watch. for the Tudor it was calling it slab sided. you don't see it in their website photos, but find a video where you can see it from various angles it shows up more. not sure how much of a problem it is, but it is the weak spot.

i was just going through some of my grandfather’s old antiques and came across this watch. as far as i know, it’s some old soviet, belarusian brand named luch, model from the 70s or 80s, a hand-wound rubin 17. i might be wrong, though. could someone more knowledgeable and experienced tell me exactly which model this is and what its value might be?

I don't really understand people who are proud of paying for an extremely overpriced watch, and feeling good about it.
Let's be honest, the watch brand won, and you lost. They got you.
>b-but I am not poor
Bullshit! Even if you make decent money, the chances are extremely low that you are so fucking rich that paying tens of thousands of dollars extra on overpriced shit doesn't affect you.
If you were that kind of rich, you would be posting your watches and flexing on everyone, but instead you are "saving" for it. I really don't get it.
If a brand is trying to milk me dry for shit that obviously isn't worth that much, that whole thing feels dirty to me, I can't buy that watch and feel good. It's not even about the actual money itself.
I could feel disgusting paying $1k for a shitty Seiko, and feel great paying $2k for a certain Christopher Ward, or The Citizen.
I don't agree at all with the people saying that you should only buy shitters, but on the other side of the spectrum you have the disgusting brand simps and posers.
>>
>>18661119
Are these guys even saving for nice watches? It honestly seems to be more about just a board to hang out on for them, nothing to do with watches at all. Some just criticize everything.
If they don't post any watches then they can say whatever they want. As soon as they post anything they open themselves up to criticism. And these are little bitches who can dish it out but can't take it. Chickenshits.

I think it’s pretty interesting that a major company would not only sell a completely unfinished movement but also have the gall to have it visible behind a display caseback.
Interesting in the way that seeing an unusual animal dead on the side of the road is interesting.

No. It's considered the max that works for everyone. Never too small for even the biggest wrists. You'd have to be 6" or smaller for it to look out of place, which would usually be women and children.
Just watch some videos and you'll see how they look on wrists.

I'm looking for my first automatic dress watch around $200, preferably 38mm, with a white dial and blue hands, no date window, and a clean minimal look with nothing printed on the dial face. I want something that feels and looks genuinely premium, built to last a lifetime. Here are my two choices, what do you guys think?

Can't you find an Orient that looks like this and has sapphire crystal though?
Orient starts having it slightly above that price, maybe in the $250 range.
Either way, a cheap watch lasting a lifetime? Ehh, maybe if you don't wear it much.

$139.00, all titanium case, scratch-resistant ceramic coated, sapphire crystal, screwdown crown, 100m WR, 72 hour power reserve movement. That last one is unheard of at that price, as is are most automatic titaniums.
And the small seconds and dial and everything look awesome. There are other colors too; less extreme.
This has the best specs for the price, and blows most $300 watches out of the water. It's what I'd get.
But it's not really a dress watch. It is, however, a fine example of what kind of hardware and design you can get in a budget watch without a big name. There would be something that fits the style you like at a better price with better stuff if you look.
But the other stuff like the brand status is more important to some people, and maybe you're one of them. Most watches will keep the time; the other stuff depends on your priorities.
There are fancy sports cars that go fast and look cool, but you wouldn't survive an accident in one.

>>
>>18661418
I complain about them. You can't buy replacement movements for them like you can with seiko sea-gull etc. so when its time to service you're gonna end up spending more than the watch is worth. At least with a cheap seiko 5 watch you can just chuck the old movement and pop a new one in for not much money.
>>
>>
>>18661489
As someone who was arguing against Orients before, I'm going to mention that watches just don't routinely require servicing. They say it's pointless to service even luxury watches ever unless they actually break down. And if a watch doesn't break down pretty soon after getting it it's probably not going to for years, decades. And once a watch at the price of an Orient dies, just replace it. If you get five years out a watch you got your money's worth. But there's no reason to assume it wouldn't last much longer.
>>

That's a bit much. I would never own that Boderry because of the 50mm lug to lug. It looks ridiculous. At that price wouldn't I fucking own one by now if I really wanted one? Honestly. Pay attention.
I would sooner consider pic related. But it's ugly to my taste despite the size and style. It has an 80 power reserve though. And I am interested in scoring that at a low price plus with good looks. I'm going to have to drop over $300 for a Farasute or something though if I want it. Or search harder or buy used. For some reason most of the power reserve watches on Ali are 42mm. It's probably hard to make them small AND cheap.
Eventually I'm going to buy better watches. I'm just deciding what I like enough to justify more than $500. I won't be collecting those as I'm collecting these.

I don't feel like it's worth it for me to buy any more shitters.
Now I am saving money for something a bit nicer, and will save for at least 1 more year, probably longer than that. I am saving while I also have a family to feed, so it's not a lot of money per month, but it's something.
I also don't want to buy a watch with a credit card, or a loan, or any of that kind of stuff. That seems way too retarded to me.
>>
>>18661572
These are the roles I have in my collection.
>daily (something on a steel bracelet, for work or social gatherings)
>beater (cheap Casio digital or Timex for hard work, chores, or exercise)
>diver (water activities or casual outings, sailcloth or NATO strap)
>field (legible and tough, on brown leather strap)
>dress (gold case with white dial on black leather strap, no complications, preferably no seconds hand)
>chronograph (optional but super cool, I use mine for cooking more than anything)
>statement (also optional, but for that oddball watch you love that doesn't fit any other category and has pizzazz)
>temporary spot (watch that I'm trying out while I figure out whether or not I want to keep it and replace another watch in the roles of my collection)
I have an 8-slot watch box so this works really well for me, and it prevents me from overspending because if something wants to come into the collection, something else has to go and I have to feel okay with that.
>>
the time only watch segment is massively neglected. date complications are like a cancer spreading to every dial and metasticizing. nobody can tell me why a dive watch shows the date. nobody has ever been underwater and said 'i wonder if its the 3rd or the 4th'.
>>
>>18661609
You don't "need" any watch. I don't get why people act like you can't or shouldn't wear dressier watches with jeans and a t-shirt or other casual clothes, no one makes the same argument towards divers or pilot watches. A dress watch is just a field watch with no numerals and a leather strap. If you like them get them, just don't feel like you need to check off some arbitrary box if they aren't for you.
>>
>>
>>18661802
Its because cheap mass-produced movements almost all have date-wheels. Even lots of watches without date still have a "ghost" date complication underneath the dial. I do agree that they never improve the look of a watch and just make them more annoying to set the time.
>>
>>
>>18661802
>nobody can tell me why a dive watch shows the date. nobody has ever been underwater and said 'i wonder if its the 3rd or the 4th
Because dive watches are meant to be used not just for diving. You take them on your dives, but your trusty watch goes everywhere else with you as well.
Or if we are being honest, 99% of dive watches don't see any diving, it's just a cool design.

how normal is it for water resistance to degrade over time? I'm looking at a 20ish year old watch that was originally rated for 15 bars/150m but the store says it currently tests at 3 bars/30m. This even though they claimed to have fully serviced it. Obviously some loss is expected over time but is that big of a loss in water resistance normal? Could I have it serviced and the gaskets and seals replaced and it would be back to being a 15 bar watch? Or am I just fucked?

Just don't swim with that watch. You weren't going to anyway. As long as it's a little water resistant that's all you need.
No one here is a watchmaker. We can't answer your question. We can tell you it's kind of pointless though.
>>
>>18661986
im not worried about that, im just concerned about the shop claiming to have fully serviced the watch yet it's only rated for 3 bars. Theoretically if it went through a full service by the manufacturer and all the faulty or degraded parts were replaced, it should be restored to its original 15 bar rating, no? Now obviously they didn't do that, they just did the service in house with their own guys, I'm just wondering if the lower water rating despite the in house service is a normal thing for old watches or potentially a red flag for other issues, like maybe they never serviced it at all or parts were swapped out sometime in the past leading to a lower water rating. I don't want to spend thousands on a watch just to have to send it in to the manufacturer for a full service a year later and pay them another thousand just to have them tell me that the movement got swapped out for some chinese one or something
