BJJ is a legitimate martial art and self defence system, as long as you train at an MMA gym since they include instructions for how to capitalise with striking when in a dominant position as well as how to defend and get out of bad positions (e.g. guard). You can train pure BJJ for self-defence as long as it is combat oriented bjj, and not sport bjj.

The way I see it BJJ shouldn't be about lying down to kick someone's ass, but knowing what to do when you're taken down.

I like Jocko's mindset here: if someone talks shit, punches, kicks or shoves you can always just walk away. If someone starts wrestling you then you're forced to fight and BJJ is what saves you.

This situation unironically happened to me once. A small folding knife that I use mainly to open packages saved my life, or at least my belongings (there is no guarantee that a nigger won't just outright stab you even after you surrender all your valuables. Martial arts are cool and all, but weapons are extreme force multipliers and not having a knife or expandable baton as your EDC is just asking for trouble. I bet that a manlet with a knife and a mindset of not giving a fuck would mess up even heavyweight MMA champion.

It's the style of wrestling practiced in American schools and colleges, and it dominates MMA. Even the Dagestanis go to the USA to train it. The "Dagestani handcuff" is mostly a folkstyle thing, doesn't happen much in freestyle or greco.
