Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.

Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.

10kg down in 3 weeks, first week was very rapid with glycogen and water now it slowed down to -0.3kg daily. Turns out I was basically doing what was written in this book, only had to increase protein intake but so far so good. 1200kcal daily as long as I hit my 130-150g protein and almost no muscle loss. Good read, retard proof, would recommend.

So how do you guys fast or even just eat less?
I'm getting this weird feeling if I don't eat enough for a few hours. It's like my whole body is aching a little bit, I feel weak, and there's this bit of chest discomfort that progresses to much worse eventually that may or may not be just a panic attack. It isn't just feeling hungry (in fact I don't even remember the last time I felt hungry), but like my body is depleted and cannot function.
Like today I woke up and felt I need to eat but slept for a few more hours. I already ate three small meals but it only gets better if I absolutely stuff myself. I shouldn't be deficient in anything, I should have glycogen, I ate normally yesterday, I'm not even really on a diet.
Do you get the same, do you just push through, or do you know what could be wrong? Or is it as simple as just not eating for others?

Anyways, in how big of a deficit are you? The OP says do -500 to -1000, which I don't agree with, take it slow and do -300 to -500. Life will be a lot better, and you will have a lower chance of a relapse.

my Rhuematoligist is putting me on keto to help head off some pre-diabetic markers.

i've mostly been doing okay with it, but i have a question for anyone who is more familiar with it. whats the story with diet sodas? i had heard from some sources that they still trigger an insulin response, and from others that they dont. i cant ask my doctor because my next apt isnt for another 2 months. do diet sodas interfere with keto at all or are they safe to have?

i've already cut out all the sugary or sweetened drinks, pastas, breads, rice, grains, even the higher carb veggies and legumes like beans. pretty much just eating eggs and dairy, fish, lean chicken no breading, tofu, nuts.

keeping the carbs under 20g total a day has been my goal so far.

also any general advice for cooking on keto appreciated. my Dr recommended me a website but it has a paid subscription to access to im dubious

As I said I'm not even dieting because of this shit. I'm probably above 1000 calories already today. My TDEE is around 1500 so a 1000 calorie deficit would be just eating my 100 g required protein which is something I've never done. Mostly I've been just trying to do cardio and not overeating, I have lost around 15 kg in the last half a year somehow and it's just the finishing touches left, but I had this problem when I was fat too.
I'm just curious how normal it is, since I've got it again without really forcing it. Do other people get it, is it just the body not really switching to fat burning, do I need to do something or just wait, or is there something wrong with me and what is it? I've asked doctors, they couldn't help.

You say you had this problem before, how long did it last?
Try to wait it out, and in the meantime, eat low calorie snacks and drink water to make yourself feel satiated. Then record for how long it lasted, compare it to the previous times, see if you can find some connection as to why you fall into such a mode.

Artificial sweeteners are fine for keto. Do whatever you need to do to avoid carbs. Tastes change over time so if you choose to cut out sweeteners you will get used to it.

Dr Eric Westman has a relaxed attitude about clean eating. He is one of the most experienced keto doctors in the world. He treats real patients.

As far as cooking goes, chaffles are top tier for burgers and breakfast sandwiches. The Dash mini is the best waffle iron for making them. I like the basic cheese and egg recipe because it is keto and carnivore.

I mostly just eat burger patties on their own cooked under my broiler on high because I am too lazy to make chaffles all the time. I eat them with cheddar and sauerkraut. I like ready-to-eat side dishes like sauerkraut, pickles, and cheese because then I only have to cook the meat. I put aluminum foil on the pan when I am broiling the patties for easy cleanup. ~6 mins each side for a 1/3lb burger patty. I eat 3 patties (1lb of meat) each meal. Costco/Kirkland green (80/20) or black (70/30) patties are best. Lower fat is kind of unappetizing. Or make your own patties with regular or medium ground beef. I like frozen premade for convenience.

Bacon and eggs are also a great staple. I cook bacon in the oven for ease and consistency.

One of my best cooking tools aside from my Dash mini is a Vobaga egg cooker. I like it because it is all stainless steel. Cooking soft boiled or hard boiled eggs is great because there are very few dishes. The egg cooker cleans easily with vinegar or citric acid and the eggs are in their own shells. No mess.

If you like doing complicated recipes check out Chris Cooking Nashville on youtube. He creates crazy recipes like carnivore rice, carnivore noodles, carnivore potatoes, keto/carnivore pizza, etc. All very clean and his results are some of the best of all keto channels.

I reached my goal weight with keto long ago and now during maintenance I eat butter croissants with scrambled eggs and bacon on them sometimes. They aren't too fattening if they are mixed with plenty of high quality food like eggs, bacon and cheese. Not optimal during weight loss obviously but long term you will be able to eat occasional croissants and other treats. I also like creme brûlée and high quality ice cream.

Brothers I have never been so fat as I am right now. Really let myself go and for no good reason too, seems to be anytime I get an office job and no gf I fall to food for comfort. When I was a meat cutter at a supermarket I would sneak out basically ALL of the expired steaks that didn't look disgusting and freeze them. Like an electrician stealing copper, my lunch box was often heavier leaving than arriving. Mostly ribeyes which were my favorite, I'd be able to have a $15-20 choice steak twice a week.

I think that's subconscious stuff and you can ignore it. Most people are fat and have no idea what a healthy weight is like, or they've convinced themselves they are healthy despite that not being the case, so if you are a lesser weight than them, it makes you underweight and unhealthy. Or they subconsciously don't want you to be losing weight because it shows it's possible and they could do it if they tried which they might've convinced themselves it's not.

Why does my knee hurt when I stop running on treadmill? tl;dr I keep losing even though I'm eating above maintenance so I wanted to see how far I could push it and took a week off twice. What I find is that my knee starts acting up but then when I start running again it goes away. So now I feel like I'm forced to treadmill for life

your knee is getting stiff and running is alleviating it. you could probably do any kind of exercise to make it feel better. why is it stiff? i dunno, weight loss does weird things to your body and itll prolly go away on its own. but it could be exercise related. i used to get a stiff shoulder if i didnt go climbing once a week. climbing, similarly, made the stiffness go away. took a really long break from climbing and the phenomenon to stop. take it as a signal to get back to exercise but dont take it too seriously.

Just weighed myself this morning, down to 274. December 2024 I was at 411 pounds. I’m at the home stretch, just gotta drop that last hundred and I’ll be at my target weight. 5lbs in a week doesn't make sense at this point. When I started at 424, and the first few weeks were 6 to 8 pound drops, that made sense, people said that a lot of those initial pounds are water.

Yeah man, at 1800 calories a day you’re just under half your BMR for 424 pounds, of course you’re gonna lose a shitload of weight. It’s gonna taper off when you get around 300 pounds, don’t freak out you’re still losing weight. I do 1200-1500 a day and it’s no issue for me at all but the best thing you can do is pick a target intake and stay there. I know a lot of people will talk about TDEE -500 but the issue with that is it’s not an exact science and your calorie usage can fluctuate throughout the week. The big issue with the TDEE method is people always overestimate their physical exertion.

No, that's the hard truth, it depends on your starting weight unfortunately. If you're above ~33 BMI starting, you're almost gonna 99% have loose skin. Your skin is already so stretched and it isn't going to naturally suck itself back in no matter how much collagen you take. If you're like BMI 28 maybe you won't have any... but generally if you're obese, you're just gonna have to face it.

You can search up "tummy tuck" which is a good example as women regularly gain excess skin due to pregnancy and some need surgery to remove that excess loose skin. You can also search up pictures of younger fit men with it, it's almost always at the abdomen.

But for real, just do surgery when you get to that stage, tons of people have had this done. Losing weight means gaining countless opportunities from your looks, wear a nice sweater to hide all that loose skin and ride it out.

Am ~174cm 25 yr old dude and ive been going to the gym 3x a week fullbody program, cardio is cycling every 2nd or 3rd day, my lifts have stalled at beginner tier and the scale has been stuck at 65kg for ages, so im not sure if im meant to continue dieting or get more calories in and start muscling up. But if you don't care for or have no hope for that in the first place, I'd argue the time cost of a lifting routine simply isn't worth it. Okay so I'm a chronic binge-eater getting confused about CICO. I weighed 141lbs 2.5-3 weeks ago and in that time went on a bingefest. 5 days ago my weight was 150lbs. This tracked for how much I'd overeaten and is honestly about what I was expecting. Assuming the loss is water weight, and maybe generously 1lb from deficit + exercise + job, there is no way I only gained 2lbs from my binge-eating. I'm not kidding when I say it's chronic and basically a mental disorder, I will eat to the point of sickness and keep pushing myself. I'm talking like 300g easter egg (1,600 kcal), 125g multipack chocolate (easily 1,000kcal), Pringles tube, plus my regular food and odd bits here and there. I can easily be eating 3500 (1lb) surplus per day on a binge if not more. I don't purge. So how is it possible to have not gained more weight?

I'm wondering if I'm the only one that cared about retaining as much of my lean body mass from being fat as I could. There is a lot of muscle under all that fat. Losing weight should be thought of as a massive cut after a bulk. Retain that fucking muscle so you can be a chad when you get down below 20% body fat. Hit protein macros and add some degree of resistance training. Sometimes, you can get away with that just being your job if it's physical. Learn to carry things in ways that activate various muscle groups. Half the time it's how you lift something, not the weight itself. And for the love of God, eat enough fat. Without it, on a cut, even with protein, you're gonna lose T, thus lose lean muscle mass regardless of the protein. Get fat to at least 55g daily. Also, consider a refeed day (a carb refeed if doing keto on the other 6 days, which is optimal) each week to keep metabolism from going into starvation mode, which also creates threats to lean body mass.

The fact is that you have a mental illness and you're not thinking logically. There are a myriad of factors that affect weight, weight gain and loss and metabolism and you know that, but because you're unhappy and trying to fill the void with food, you're trying to hyperfixate on numbers and exact mechanistic properties because you think that if you can isolate all factors down to repeatable predictions and measurements, that it will give you a sense of control and you won't feel so helpless.

If you want to lose weight, track your calories, eat less and exercise. You will lose weight, the rate will vary, and you will have ups and downs due to fluid retention, ambient pressure, mood, and amount of sleep. But the scale will reliably go down.

I would recommend seeing a therapist and a doctor to get help for your condition.
