>Who is /fat/ for?
For Drumstick Destroyers who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/
>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).
>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html
>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

New Doctor wants me to follow dash diet.. I guess I could lose weight on this, but doesn't look like protein is a high priority

full fat dairy and fatty meats are fine in moderation. nuts and seeds are high fat and not great protein limit those, beans similar they're carbs and protein. Limit. Vegetable oils are shit tier, throw those out use avocado oil or olive oil, and even then use those in moderation. Sodium intake is not a problem if you avoid processed meats like beef jerky, canned beef hash, charcuterie, and extra salty meats like pork belly. If you eat at a deficit sodium is almost never a problem. Cut sweets and soda out entirely. They are addictive, make you feel bad, and make it hard to maintain a deficit.

Oh yeah stall is over. It seems like my stall pattern has revealed itself, a full week of stalling out and then rapid loss to about the amount I should have lost during that time. Ill hit my goal within a month, gonna keep going beyond it down to 215 to 210.

I’m going to take the home gym pill. I already consume enough protein, take vitamins, take 10k steps a day (most days) but I’ve been weak and sedentary my whole life and am probably within the 20% weakest males for my age.

Genuine question, why would they want you eating non-fat dairy but then simultaneously tell you to eat a bunch of fatty foods like fish, nuts, and sneed oils? I don't follow government-sanctioned meme diets, so I'm not up to date on the latest contradictory bullshit. Is it really just coming from the "muh saturated fat" scaremongering?
>mfw I get more omega 3 in my breakfast than most people get in a week
>>

Fat is very easy to overshoot and you need to maintain as precise 2:1 Omega 6:3 ratio as you can if you want to get anywhere in fitness. It also doesn't help that a lot of food that you wouldn't expect to have fat do in fact end up having fat. Example is Scotish Oats in UK having 10g of fat per 100g.
Same applies to other macro nutrients really. You want simple meals where 1 ingredient is mostly carbs, 1 is mostly protein and 1 is mostly fat so you can easily adjust as needed.

nta but omega 6 causes inflammation, which is important for healing wounds. While omega 3 is anti-inflammatory, which among other things is good for recovery from exercise.
Our "natural" diet was about a ratio of 4:1 because of fatty fish, but modern diets are more like 15:1 or 20:1. It's extremely easy to massively overeat omega 6, because that's the main source of fat in seed oils, as well as nuts like peanuts and almonds. And eating too much omega 6 can cause chronic inflammation, which is not good.
I personally think that the main issue with seed oils is that they're very high in omega 6. But there's a secondary problem that if they're heated to a high temperature for too long (ie in a deep fryer) they form trans fats, which are REALLY bad.

any euros / brits that can recommend a walking/hiking shoe or boot? I get almost all my cardio exercise from hiking as I live near a national forest its uneven terrain and i've had a few injuries / ankle / foot swelling all that sort of shit. I bought some "North ridge" mid boot from Go outdoors but they were shit and fell apart after 6 months. I'm not giving up hiking/walking in fact im increasing it, so I need the right footwear. Any advice appreciated.

yeah a few people said that to me, but maybe its just where I live it's all 16 year old kids that recommend nike all the time and really dont know anything. But I guess I can try. I was hoping someone does lots of hiking and can save me the trouble and expense of buying something shit again

I'm a burger but I like my merrell "moab speed" boots. The merrell insole is extremely comfy and durability is fair. Also they are super light weight.
I've been using them for a while, and just finished a hiking trip with 0 complaints.
They are ugly I guess, but who cares

They are pretty true to size in my experience, and they have other moab styles that are more bootlike if you prefer having higher tops for ankle support
I don't miss the ankle support as much as I thought. Nice to have an overall lighter boot, but I hike with poles
I was in the Adirondacks over wet leaves, wet rocks, and occasional ice and snow still. The vibram soles in on these made me feel pretty surefooted on most surfaces

My 170 goal by end of month seems very attainable. 12 days left, under 4 lbs to go.
160 by end of May might be a little bit harder as I have less weight left to lose, but I think I can stop the two-a-day workouts after that and switch to just disc golf and lifting. Looking forward to it.

Yeah that's the way, jump face first into a hobby and commitment you have no experience with or knowledge of. DON'T go to a real gym for even like 6 months to learn the basics, see if you'll stick with it, or figure out if you even like lifting or not. Because that would be fucking stupid.

the bucket of sand I use as a kettlebell popped something in my hip and now it feels funny. I was at walmart and tried a similar weight bell on the shelf and it feels a lot better, but it's 80 fuckin dollars. I ended up buying an ab wheel instead.

If I can just remember that these fast food cravings pass eventually. I will make it to my goal ezpz. Cravings always fucking pass eventually. Something I need to remember. One moment you can be deeply craving chipotle like your life depends on it, 5 minutes later the craving will be completely gone. Just wait it out.
>>
>>77211354
each time you successfully resist a craving like that, you put the last time you succumbed to it further in the past and it becomes less and less a part of the routine of your life. eventually you won't think about it out of nowhere anymore and you'll be highly practiced at saying no to it in situations where you're reminded of it anyway (e.g. passing a chipotle on the street). it only gets easier with time.

Bad news: I have a date in a few minutes with a girl I've been majorly hitting it off with.
