>Who is /fat/ for?
For Pantry Patrollers who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/
>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).
>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html
>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

It could also be that all the fat came from an area you were hyper fixated on
I'm the same weight as I was 2 weeks ago but I look thinner. I'm in the middle of a body recomp.

This. Butterfly moment of the month came yesterday after restricting carbs for three days.
>46.5 kg
>lowest since: 2 months ago
I actually thought I looked small. I'm anorexic - I never feel small!
>>
"graduated" from /fat/ in 2021, went from 126 kg to 74 kg and held it stable for quite a while. Starting around the Christmas feasts this year, followed by a Japan holiday etc I somehow bounced back to 81 over the past 4 months, so I felt it's probably best to return here until back to 74 instead of becoming fat again.
Hi fatties, been a while

Have you ever experienced the "pang" of hunger? I’ve always felt drowsy and found myself opening the cabinet for a bowl of ramen when I’m truly hungry. Now that I’m aware of it I slip under my bedsheets for a short nap and the craving vanishes
>>
>>77213749
Also I’m a no-lifer low-effort and here’s the diet I’ve been following for the past three days:
Breakfast: An omelette, a cup of milk tea
Afternoon: Le milk tea
Dinner: An omelette, a slice of bread
I also sleep a lot. Two-thirds of my days are spent sleeping

My clothes are getting looser but I can still wear them. I was going to wait until I get to my final weight to buy new clothes.
>>77213725
94 kg and 190 cm, started at around 115kg I'm trying to get to 80kg
I just started lifting so I barely have any muscles. So my bodyfat percent is still high. How many years does it take until you see weight lifting progress?

These threads are really stupid.
Just eat as much grilled chicken as you can stand, then when you are hungry again eat more chicken. Slip some steamed veggies in there occasionally and a multivitamin and electrolytes, and you are good to go.
I lost 20lbs CASUALLY in the last 3 months eating chicken. Like how is this even a fucking problem for you people? You will feel stuffed on meat long before you hit mx calories for the day, 1200 calories worth of chicken for a 200lb man did it.
How is anyone fat????

I was always told to imagine yourself as a roll of paper towels. A new roll when removing the first few layers will not make all that much of a difference visually, however, the closer you get to the centre, the same number of sheets removed will make a much larger visual impact.
Just keep going!

I was 136 kg at my peak. After about 32kg lost then I felt "fit" and felt like I could talk to girls without grossing them out instantly. Still fat but im getting there. Now im lik 99.5kg and think I look and feel so much better and I am still continuing to lose. I also do resistance training at least 4 times per week. According to the measurement system in the OP I am around 27-29% bodyfat. So maybe there.

I lost control due to a combination of attending family gatherings with a lot of food and buying snacks thinking I could control myself around them. I could not. The family events are one thing, but for the latter I simply just resolved to not have any more junk in my house (i.e anything I could overeat on and jack up my calories tenfold). I also skip breakfast entirely and don't eat anything after 9PM.

NTA but my neighbor commented on my muscle, he asked if I had been working out, he said it shows. I lost a lot of weight last year, like 80lbs and I've been plateauing on weight for months now, but it seems at least to my neighbor that some of that is me gaining muscle. So swinging those weights around wasn't a complete waste of time. Its hard to notice the changes yourself since they're so gradual.

Started at 400. I'm down to 328 purely off dieting and walking. At what point can I start going to the gym? I held it off until now because I didn't want to fuck up my joints but I think I'm ready. I want to lift weights and get some fucking muscle
>>
>>77214281
As soon as possible the main factors of retaining muscle during weightloss are: protein intake, and using the muscles you don't want to atrophy. You are also fat enough to build muscle during a caloric deficit. It gets harder the lower your body fat and the greater your training age.
>>
>>
>>77214281
just don't be retarded while lifting and start light.
make sure your form is perfect and immediately stop if you feel any pain.
people mostly fuck themselves up doing deadlifts and squats. be extra careful with them.

honestly i put it in a zip lock, smack it enough to tenderize/flatten it, put a TINY bit of olive oil and my spices in and rub it all around to coat it evenly, then just throw it on a skillet and cook it until its done. Works well enough
>>
while we’re on chicken recipes, lemme redpill you all on brining. chicken breast, or really any part of the chicken, no marinades needed, just saltwater in a mixing bowl or jar or whatever. About as salty as seawater, maybe slightly less, submerge the chicken for 3-5 hours, nothing else needed. No matter how you cook it after its gonna be much more tender and the flavor will be better. I just spice it, put on an oven rack and bake.

>oven
>>77214364
>oven at 220c
>>77214379
>oven for an hour and 20 minutes
why oven instead of pan?
>>
>>77214385
my personal reason: pan frying gets cooking oil everywhere and requires babysitting. for oven I can just throw it in and forget about it. getting a crust and making pan sauce is one reason to use a pan but for cooking chicken in any reasonably healthy way its not necessary.
Steaks you should either start or finish in a pan, for chicken you’re just making a mess for no reason.

Most of the frozen ones say 15% brine by weight or something to that effect.
>>
>>
>>77214355
>defrost chicken
>pat it dry on both sides with paper towels
>season, usually salt, pepper, garlic as a base then add other spices of choosing: italian season, cumin, paprika, cayenne, etc
>Either cook breast whole or cube
>preheat pan
>oil pan, preferably with spray oil for dieting otherwise be careful
>let oil get hot
>using tongs or something drop chicken in pan lightly, if it doesn't sizzle, pan is not hot enough
>add enough chicken to cover the pan, but with there being at least some space between pieces, otherwise itll get too cold / uneven browing less flavor / too much water and it boils instead of sears
>cook in batches if you need to
>dont touch the chicken for about 3-4 minutes
>flip, should have a nice sear
>Id say 1-2 minutes on the other side, depends on the thickness of you cubes, for whole breasts cook longer
>make a pan sauce or make some sort of glaze, butter and hot sauce work, light cream cheese with spices work, honey and hot sauce work too - all of these should barely add calories and add a lot of flavor if you are prepping for a week (as in, it's calories added divided by 5 so.....)
enjoy

Still gotta watch my caffeine intake and avoid eating close to sleep time. Looking forward to going out again and easy fatloss.

been out of this for years but back then (4-5 years ago) the general consensus was to simply not take exercise calories into account and treat them as a bonus, due to the many unreliabilities and overestimations of the various ways to calculate exercise calories.
Like whatever app you're using might tell you you've burned 500 kcal when you've burned 100, simply to keep you motivated, or because we don't know any better. I don't know if this has changed since then, but it sounds like this might be the issue.

I did, not gonna lie. I had some hiccups adjusing to the new diet. mostly fast food, things like panda express and pollo tropical. I’m not trusting the calorie counters on there anymore. gonna skip lunch, get breakfast at home and eat when I get back from work. no take out period.
>>
>>
>>77214534
I’ve resolved to doing that too. apps are all wrong on TDEE myfitnesspal said my maintenance was 2300. I’m fortunately smart enough to know thats not fuckin true and I dont burn 300 cal on average a day with “light exercise.”

I'm doing about 1500 calories right now too. It can be challenging sometimes to hit macros, but it's feasable.
for proteins I swapped milk in my cereals with greek yogourt. I get chicken breasts / beef and cans of pink salmon I also eat daily for brotein.
Cottage cheese also helps.
But yeah fast food will kill your calorie goal for the day, I stay away from that except for some social occasions.

I did back in October, but man it was rough, I was not comfortable at 170 at all. My goal when I started was 180, I hit that and my goal this year was to just stay around 180ish and not immediately start to gain it all back, and that's almost been as hard as losing it in the first place. I could try it again, I am a lot fitter now than I was in October, my lifts have gone up considerably since then and I can run around my entire block without getting winded / stopping to catch my breath now which was not the case when I first hit 180, so maybe a another push to 170 is warranted now. I'm just really comfortable right now so I'm hesitant to get my head back in the game.
>>77214590
Its the 'RENPHO 550lb Scale' I don't know why it has that 1000s place digit, I got an one for extra fat fatties because I had no idea just how fat I was and a lot of the digital scales were like "300lb max capacity" and I was like, yeah... I'm probably more than that...

Are you talking canned potatoes in water? It's probably a combination of the potatoes taking on water weight and leeching starch into the water you drain off. Fresh red/white potatoes are only a teensy bit lower in calories per 100g than russets,

Nobody is going to be jealous until you actually do it.
Biggest downside of fasting for longer than couple of days is that you might get light headed, faint and bonk your head. There isn't much upside if any for instead doing something like few days fast - eat - fast again type pattern.

Good guide but I'd say use olive oil instead of spray since spray always contains onions. Just account for the tbsp of olive oil or whatever. Olive oil is good for you and also doesn't crass pants like spray tends to do over time.

As long as it's within your calorie budget it's not a sin. On my work days I'll have maybe 200cal of something in the morning and not eat anything else until I get home since I work better on a relatively empty stomach.

Here's a simple as fuck keto diet. Same thing everyday. Its what I'm doing now. Either eat everything in one meal at 5PM or split into two meals with the first in the morning before you leave. Supplement vitamin D, creatine, fish oil, and whatever else you want.
80 g Ground Flax Seeds
260 g Non-Fat Greek Yogurt
20 g Protein Powder
60 g Peanut Butter
340 g Boiled Spinach
10g Frying Oil (Avocado Preferred)
10 Large Eggs
Salt
This covers literally everything you need including a shitton of magnesium.

I decided to buy a new scale just cause I’ve had my old for many years. I tested it out and there’s a 10 lb difference between my old scale and new scale. I decided to use the scale at the gym and the number was a lot closer to the number on the new scale.

my progress after starting weight loss and gym in August 2025. starting weight was 132kg, i'm 91kg now. mostly ketogenic (still high protein with moderate to high fat, 20g net carb daily) with a calorie target of 2000 per day, upped to 2650 about 3-4 weeks ago (still mostly low carb but carbs are now around 40g net) . i had my hormones tested and they were on the low side of normal which my dr attributed to just not eating enough food. i'm trying to find my maintenance and it's probably more but i want to lose a bit more fat.
i would have thought that after this long i'd have a bit more muscle growth. i train hard 4 days a week and never skip days, there's noticeable improvement in lifts since i track everything but i think i'm over training. my gym sessions are too long and i don't have enough recovery. i'm reading about cortisol suppressing hormone production and i think that's what's inhibiting my growth

You really gotta add you're like 6'5 if you want people to believe that pic is you at 200lbs. Bu good job. You might want to try dropping keto entirely and going to a normal mixed diet but still in a good calorie range, that might help your gym sessions.

>>77214889
i'm 6'3. it really is me at that weight. tried adding more carbs but my body is just not used to them at all and it fucked with my stomach and energy levels. also my sleep. i know i'd have to keep at it for weeks but after nearly 2 i just said fuck it and went back to low carb

no one can say, depends on what your skin is like and how you carry your weight. this is not 100% reliable but imo if you have distinct flabby hanging rolls, you're more likely to have loose skin. more stretch marks also points in the direction of loose skin. i don't think speed of weight loss matters for this.

Loose skin depends entirely on what food you eat.
Do carnivore and you will not get loose skin. Pic related.

>be fat all my life
>distinctly remember hitting over 230lbs when I was in Middle School
>weigh myself and hit 390lbs as an adult, and try keto diet
>keto works but I fucked it up by having a cheat day due to feeling like shit, not knowing the cheat day pretty much undid the entire process
>end up losing about 40lbs in about 4 months
>2024, weigh in at 410lbs
>someone I know goes to a place that injects them with some shit to kill appetite and gives them a keto diet
>tell someone else that the injection is bullshit because keto alone was likely the responsible one for weight loss
>to prove them wrong I start keto again but this time I make no mistakes
>lose about 15lbs in a month but start feeling like shit again, even more so when I tried going out for walks since my stomach would burn like hell
>drop keto and just start walking
>from walking, I would jog for short bursts. Track near me has .33 mile laps, and I would maybe jog 10 - 15 second bursts like two to three times per lap
>go from going out to walk every three days, to daily due to having some type of ocd that makes me HAVE to go out to walk
>fast forward to now
>weigh in at 225lbs last week, technically not obese anymore, just overweight
>jog 8 miles non-stop daily
>started weights almost a year ago and have noticeable muscle in arms, chest, and shoulders
I feel a lot better but I have to say that a pretty bad negative is that when I do push-ups shirtless, most of my torso skin hangs a few inches. I figure that with the muscle and loose skin, I probably am a bit closer to my ideal weight (like 185lbs) so I'm wondering if I should look into getting the skin removed or wait until I reach my goal weight. At the very least, when I stand the skin is not noticeable and my arms look way better than they did before I started losing weight, that shit would hang as well mostly around the biceps.
How many pounds would noticeable muscle and loose skin add?

You're welcome, friend. Unlimited bacon is a great weight loss diet.
>I expected that even though I was eating 2500 calories a day, an increase of 500 calories a day for me, that I would not gain much weight, I already knew that eating fat and protein doesn't make you fat.
>The biggest and most unexpected change was losing so much body fat in the 30 days. I lost 19.6 pounds by the end of the month

Alright, good to know. I'll just keep losing until I'm somewhere under 195lbs. Hope there's payment plans or something to help finance it, because I'm guessing it's over 10k at least. I'd hate to drop that money at once.

I'm really considering taking up another, more potent addiction as a means to an end. I don't do anything besides eat food and drink water, no drugs or alcohol. I feel like I've never seen a fat cigarette smoker, heroin junkie or meth head. They're all skinny as a rail. The other addictions don't allow room for food addiction. Think about it it would be like setting off a bomb to put out a fire.

I'm probably addicted to coffee (I haven't tried stopping) and it surely isn't as bad as junk food or smoking. As a bonus it's a pretty good appetite suppressant.

feels good man, might actually stick to it this time. I already look better than I did even at lower weights, plus gym is fun as hell, I don't even need motivation anymore. Gonna bulk when I hit 70-75kg depending on how my gut looks.
Also is basing your protein on goal lean mass really enough? Right now I do 1.6-1.8g per kg of my current, full mass.

Controversial take:
The only exercises you need as a fattie is some sort of high intensity cardio and working out biceps/triceps/forearms/shoulders until you lose the fat via dieting and just moving around more.
>WHY!?
Working out your legs, chest and legs will just make you look bigger. This is especially true for the chest which will give you even bigger manboobs. Also when you are really fat, you will have horrible balance/cardio and your fat will be in the way of your lifts, making you have horrible technique and most likely injuring yourself. Go down to 25% body fat before doing compound exercises.
Working out arms will make you look better while losing weight, the worst look is being fat with small arms. It will also improve grip strength so that you will do your compound exercises better.

Your t-levels might fluctuate just like your weight has. There's really no hurry to leave the machines, I'd recommend maxing leg presses. The stimulus to t-levels is nice. You can also do sets in multiple different foot placings, so you basicly have to only supplement with curls and abductors.

Being in a calorie deficit is the only method that works. I don't think eating as much fried cheese, microwave bacon, and chicken tenders with chick-fil-a sauce as I can possibly eat every day would let me lose weight.
I already tried the low fat (less than 10g a day) and low sodium (less than 250mg a day) meme diets and felt like I was dying. The eat as many cheese sticks and chicken tendies as I can meme diet sounds tasty though.

"Calorie deficit" is the same thing as "weight loss". You're just referring to measurements. It's linguistic trickery.
When you lose body fat you can measure the body fat by weight, energy, volume, and many other measurements. The measurements are not causative. They are just observations of the effect.
If someone told you that you needed to be in a "waist circumference deficit" would you start tracking the circumference of the food you eat?
The causative factor is hormones. To lose body fat you need to lower your fattening hormones. The way to lower your fattening hormones is quitting carbs.
Estimating calories and tracking them in a diary is a waste of time and counterproductive.

The brain uses more energy than any organ in the body. Nobody tells you to read a book to get lean.

this
A fat cell does not know how many calories the human has eaten or is expending. All it does is react to various signaling molecules and hormones which tell it to release or store.

place your chicken cut in the pan when hot
cover with lid

you can always poke chicken with a toothpick to see if it's done if you're worried.
if the juices run clear, it's done, if not clear cook another 2 mins or so.

Trying, and probably failing, to start a keto diet.
I know I'm low-carb, at least, but not strict keto yet since: I occasionally have carbs like tortillas in a quesadilla or sugar/carbs from flavored Greek yogurt.
I'm making strides in eliminating all sweet, pops and carb centric items like bread, rice, ect while prioritizing protein and fats and even switching to unsweetened almond milk. I know this diet will work for me in time, especially if I keep exercising on a deficit but it's not as clean as I'd like it.
>>
>>77215977
Don’t get all worried about exactly how keto you are
Carbs, especially fibrous ones, will help you energy levels (unless you’re legit in ACTUAL ketosis)
As well as helping your cravings from not spiking blood sugar and protein being more filling
Eat like a philosophy really not some strict rule to lose sleep over you’ll get used to it
>>
>>
>>77215992
Yeah, that's kinda how I feel/think that I'm not in ketosis cause I'm not having any of the flu-like symptoms and don't really feel run down despite this being my third day.
I do get noticiably fuller off of smaller portions and I can supplement fiber for virtually net-zero carbs. It's something I'll keep pursuing for a month and see where I'm at in terms of actual weight loss.

How do I reduce the amount of fat in my diet? I like eggs but calorie-wise they're about 2/3s fat and 1/3 protein, I got some frozen breaded chicken strips for lunches and they're the same way. Lean ground beef is getting way to expensive to be eating every day. Any tips?

I've been using myfitnesspal for like a decade now and it works great. How well it works depends on country, since the barcode-scanner is community-sourced. Fat is the best macro for satiety. No need to restrict it at all. I always choose higher fat foods (regular ground beef, highest fat dairy). Your body regulates fat intake.
The only thing you need to consciously restrict is carbs.

Don’t get into the weeds on that shit. Nutrition is pseudoscience and everything that’s even slightly correct gets treated as gospel. Keto does work. So does CICO. Both require you to hit protein and fat macros. Both require you to hit low calories despite what ketoschizo says. Everything past that is mental illness peddled by charlatans and the insane.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>77216547
I'm just worried that I'm not hitting my protein targets, I'm doing some weight training while losing weight and protein is only making up ~15% of my daily calories while fats are ~40-45%, nothing seems lean enough for me.
>>
>>77216554
If you can't bench your bodyweight it's safe to presume you wont have control over your handstand. Which is to say, lose weight or increase strength, preferably both.
>>77216557
Start with 1kg then once you're used to it 2kg and so on, you don't need to be lifting 20kg from the get go, as long as you can grip the weight then if it gets too much you can let your arms drop to the side and release the dumbbells straight down.

Try not to keep anything but what you're actually going to eat in your house. Like if I bring a whole pizza into my house it's useless to trust to willpower, I will overindulge. Takeout pizza is also super easy to just grab another slice of, whilst preparing a meal kinda sucks. It's important to create good food-situations rather than trust to your own willpower (which is a gamble).
>>
>>77216563
fats are more calories, thats all it is. you’re likely gonna hit equal grams on both even if you are eating pretty healthy. all you have to do is hit protein and hit the count. protein is 1.3-1.8g/kg in athletes, so for people with sedentary bf% 1g/pound of lean body mass is what most people here do. you can do navy bf% method to find out yours but protein isnt something you need to obsess over. If you eat too much all you’re gonna do is turn your piss cloudy and make your fingernails grow slightly faster

>>
>>
>>
>>77216616
you gotta cut carbs or eat less fatty meats. red meat tends to be fattier depending on the cuts, chicken breast is gold standard for lean protein. you can find others like lowfat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, skyr, whatever you fancy in that department. other than that the only other way is cutting more carbs.
>Maybe I should try protein powder?
only if you want to. not strictly necessary. I did end up ordering a bag in the event I can't hit macros for the day but I don't envision using it regularly.
>>
>>
>>77216630
That's probably on me, I was really craving bacon and eggs. Also checking my grocery store's website they got frozen chicken strips with a lighter breading that'd half as many calories for the same amount of protein so I'll look out for them. I should look for turkey and fish options if I can, red meat is way too expensive nowadays.
>>
>>77216653
canned tuna is good. ideally I’d say no breading on the chicken, most I let myself do is a seasoning mix I make myself with flour and spices. adds 100 cal max to the whole batch.
I could just brine, cook, and eat with no seasoning like I’ve been doing with just eating canned tuna straight or plain greek yogurt but I like to see how i can make this stuff taste good as a challenge, keeps my mind occupied.
>>
>>
>>77216681
That’s a shame. Imo its one of the tamer canned fish so if you don’t like it then it’s gonna be hard for you to find one you’ll like. You could try tuna salad just to get used to the taste if its that which is bothering you. tbsp mayo to a can of tuna add sweet relish if you want, eat with butter crackers if you want. Significantly less healthy that way but if you enjoy it then eventually you will be able to just slam cans tuna with nothing but salt and pepper.
Honestly though it does sound like you need a little help on protein you might want to try powder. Track your macros for a month with myfitnesspal and once you’ve done that you’ll be able to calculate mentally pretty well.

I varied it up by suits. 99 decline pushups, 99 dips, 17 diamonds (my left shoulder near my armpit really started to hurt like four cards in and I couldn't even do a single diamond after the first seven) and 162 regular pushups. once upon a time i was very fat. over 300lbs. came to /fit/, read the fucking sticky, and learned about keto and then i lost more than 100lbs. how? CHICKEN THIGHS. i ate so many of them and i didn't even hold back. when you're 300lbs your TDEE is huge. you can eat a lot of chicken and still lose weight. i wasn't good at staying under my limit at first though, it took time and practice and forgiving myself when i didn't meet my goals. but i didn't give up. the weight came off 1lb at a time sometimes 1.5lbs on a good week. i knew i that diet wasn't enough though so i also did light cardio and lifted some babby weights.
then one day, i wasn't fat anymore. i didn't even believe that it was really possible until i was doing it. you can too.
