Does /g/ honestly buy phones and not put custom ROMs on them? If you bought a phone from Xiaomi how could you be reasonably sure they aren't sending a live camera feed directly to Jinping's office? I used my friends Samsung phone the other day and they showed me the phone forcibly installed both Microsoft Onedrive and Facebook and didn't let them uninstall either. Surely ALL stock ROMs on ALL manufacturers are filled with bloat, spyware and backdoors, even after using the debloater scripts?

I am thinking about buying a S24 Ultra new if I can find it just because it looks good, but the S25 Ultra is just that much of an improvement that it seems hard to justify it. Also phone prices in my country are a bit stupid.

It has to be plugged in and have at least 50% battery to initiate updates.
Also when is Samsung going to be able to stop battery from exploding? They haven't fixed the famous green lines issues either.

Ignore the lying kids itt, you can install ANY ipa files and side load as well without a PC and get permanent e-sign certificates so the apps keep running. No 7 days fugazzi fantasy scenarios happen.

No need to jailbreak anymore. Look into side loading using sideloadly or others and after you can get ad free apps.
>>
>>108912209
Phone still ships with proprietary apps and system that cannot be uninstalled or changed. Default map app has ads in it. Still no FOSS app store like F-Droid. Still has a locked bootloader, still has a file browser that doesn't work and intentionally won't show you system files. Apple security policy is "trust me bro" and shares almost no source code to verify their claims, the phone could be filled with backdoors and constantly sending your data away and you'd be none the wiser. Apple still sends updates to the phone that intentionally slow it down over time to "save battery life". Solve these issues and I will use an iphone. I have done jailbreaks, developer app loading, everything from iphone 4 all the way to iphone 8. Every iphone I have used has had no good apps, and self destructed within a few phone releases. Developer friends tell me now the same issues still exist, and that they have to disable updates to get a usable experience so the phone doesn't shit itself.

Ignore the person posting fantasy stories and scenarios as usual and what's funny is normies have been side loading for a while, they even got their own little subreddit. It's very easy. I got ad free Spotify, ad free YouTube and Rockstar game ipa files running no issues for months.

Boxy design with sharp corners looks nice in product photos and when watching shit or playing games but it kind of sucks in real life. The corner digs into your palm no matter what and it feels bigger in the hand than a comparable phone with rounded corners.

so i bought a NIB Pixel 8Pro on eBay. I was a bit skeptical about the seller claiming to be in Texas, shipping from Cali, and the business being based in China.
Anyway, I got the phone. It does appear to be NIB and the box quality matches my other Google devices, and the IMEI checks out
Upon opening the phone, I see there is a serial number sticker on the back, from my experience, this is usually on a refurb item.
2nd there are a few minor scuffs on the back of the phone.
So what is this?
is there a way to check if its a refurb?

>>108919386
How would a refurb be different than a new phone? The IMEI would be the same, the only thing that makes it "refurbished" is some dude factory resetting it and maybe checking the hardware works.
If there are any scuffs it's probably a used phone, whether it is an open box or "refurbished" is impossible to tell.

last year my friend gave me his Pixel 9 pro fold. He said he in prefers a regular slab phone and barely used the inner screen. I use it for about a year and also find myself not really using the inner screen. Apparently the 9 fold has a hardware defect of the ribbon cable having a chance of detaching from the battery when you open it.
Google apparently gave some 9 fold owners extended warranty because of this. I went to the Google store and they replaced it with a brand new Pixel 10 fold for free. /G/entlemen, how long will this phone be last?

>green lines "after a software update"
You dropped it or otherwise damaged the screen or ribbon cable. Don't lie. iPhones aren't immune to this, why would they be? They use Samsung screens mostly.
>exploding batteries
Issue with all batteries, lots of capacity in a small space means the risk of fire or explosion, usually again because you damage the phone.
>omg did you see that electric car fire? I'm avoiding that brand!

Just adding to this I have nothing against Samsung and I owned a S24 ultra and s25 ultra. Samsung handled the battery incident pretty appropriately and aggressively at great cost to their brand and profits.
>There is a statistically rare chance for my phone to have an issue that doesn't impact functionality and has to be taken in for a repair, something apple has famously never had happen.
There's a very good reason you can't articulate the superiority of iOS and chose to focus primarily on small issues.
iPhone's can't even natively play webm in browser. how am I supposed to phone post?
>>
>>108926851
Theoretically it could be a driver issue, but likely it's cause by damage+thermal issues, and they still give you a courtesy replacement if you bring them an unsmashed phone in a first world country...

Just adding to this. For devcheck pro to properly give you the battery capacity mah you need to leave it plugged in with battery monitor enabled until it reaches 100% and you have to watch the charging current mah input until it hits 0. That's how it shows the full battery health.

All those phones wouldn't be selling so well globally if they were so bad.

Childish negative opinions are not facts and they derail intelligent intellectual knowledge base discussion about technology

That's not a fact that's just your opinion based on circumstances that only affect you financially and not everyone else. Do you think everybody is somehow not capable of purchasing a minuscule $2,000 smartphone?

It's not too much money for me it's too much money for a smartphone. What does a smartphone bring, what one actually needs, that justifies a price of 2k?
For 2k I get a mac mini with M4 ship and 48GB ram, 1TB SSD, that MIGHT be justified at the current prices but for a phone it's just retarded.

This is you though >>108934914

Once again your opinions on what you find as a proper price for a product does not mean it has to be the same thing for everyone else. Everybody has their own budgets you and I are not in charge of everyone's wallets anon. It's cool that you feel that way but it doesn't mean that you are allowed to tell others how to spend their money. You know people are spending over a hundred thousand plus dollars for a piece of cardboard in the form of a Pokemon card right?

I don't need to answer the question because I already did you didn't read anything that I posted my answer to that question and yours is not the way everyone else globally thinks it just depends on what you justifies the proper amount for a piece of tech and what that cost for that tech justifies as far as features hardware etc is all up to the person spending the money or not spending the money whatever

Huh? Apple isn't the most popular selling phone over there. Should I post the chart for which phone sell the most over there or do you want me to post the largest smartphone factory that's over there which makes Androids? >>108892574

Once again you are trying to force your own opinions as the global scene fact you can't do that that's not what everyone thinks about how much money should be spent on a smartphone or a collector's item once again you are acting like your opinion is the only way people think do you not understand how that just derails this entire discussion you are not even being intellectual or honest. How are you so confused about the fact that some people like a certain thing enough where they are willing to spend more money than you are?

What are you talking about once again you're trying to claim that your opinion of a certain smartphone not being a collectible to someone is not true what if that person for example is a huge Motorola fan or a huge OnePlus fan that could be a collector's item to them you don't get to justify that. Who are you to tell anyone what a collectible to them is or what amount of money they should spend on said collectible or smartphone? You are clearly showing a sign of immaturity and a lack of knowledge on how the world really works. I've answered your question multiple times on why a smartphone that costs over $2,000 is okay and now you're trying to move goal post by adding an iPhone once again like I said it doesn't matter what brand it is or what features it has if the person likes it and they can afford it it's okay for them to buy it just because you don't like it or can't justify that amount doesn't mean the person buying it is in the wrong. If it's not hurting anybody then buying it should be of no issue to you but obviously you're hiding the fact that this is a deeper problem for you you were just seriously a huge hater you come to this thread and you just post a negatively.
