Hey guys so I graduated last year in June 2025 with a CE Degree from UofT and I’ve been unemployed since. A handful of interviews I couldn’t convert. You can check my post history for more info but I’m starting to feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Everything I spend my time learning is just replaced by AI. I don’t find any value in learning anything anymore and feel like everything is over. I don’t retain any of the knowledge I garnered while grinding, the Leetcode all of it feels level zero. I tried to get my self esteem up but I still go to sleep crying every other night. I hate what I’ve done and it almost feels comical writing this because it really just feels like one big joke but it’s my reality. I thought I could pick myself up but my time has run out. I’m an international so I’m also on the clock on my PGWP. I don’t feel like talking to any of my friends because of how well all and by all I mean ALL of them have been doing career wise. I can’t fathom doing all this work for a 50k role which I might get laid off any day. I’ve been spending my days doing nothing now because it all feels pointless. I guess the question here is what should I do now that everything has come crashing down?

I'm just going to get a bunch of shitty old desktops, rebuild them as Proxmox machines, run a whole bunch of Debian VMs with various open source CRM software and host them for a bunch of local small businesses and town governments for money. I will probably fail but fuck it, I'm too angry to consider anything else.

My country can afford to hire jeets now, they can't afford china yet, but some slavs are wiggling it in.
They took over the frontend, sloppy but efficient and fast a few years and it's over. Java ain't cutting it as much in backend.
Seeing the market has some good requests for python, thinking of picking it up as a backend tool. been in the industry for 8 years and if I don't make it into management soon i'm gonna get choked out of the game by kids with AI Agents and shit.

Most people aren't stupid by this qualification. Which is true. At the same time: They want to know there is some reason to hire you above hiring one of their buddies. Most HR makes sense when you realize that it only exists to justify the nepotism they were already going to do. You have to SHINE above Poohreet and Cleetus of the Curry Boys and Old Boys club who can't stir a cup of coffee on their own whom they were going to hire because of favors pulled in by their parents. If you can't absolutely curbstomp them and make it seem like they are obviously hiring on favoritism on reviews, then you don't get hired. Even for burger flipping jobs, they want Masters degrees minimum
>>108968737
Claude is trying to help you between the lines: Don't tell them the fucking truth. Don't tell Claude the fucking truth. The only reason they listed 5 years experience for a jr position is because they already have someone lined up, likely family, and are trying to push this position into the field to find if there really are any kind of retards with 5 years experience applying for a Jr position before they award it to Ransheet their fellow villager from Bangladesh.

I think this yo-yo effect is pretty funny.
Let's be honest, ai is pretty fucking effective for a dev. But it's not a 10x thing unless your stack is hyper optimized for ai (this is literally only the case if you're a webshitter with a monolith backend, both in a monolith repo).
So companies go and hand out ai credits, people waste them only to get stuck on PRs
>>
>>
>>
>>108971104
>>108971040
I've called this happening for many months. AI usage costs are going to continue to increase because AI companies are not turning profits. If they actually raised them to profitable levels (assuming nobody left afterward which is not realistic) they'd need to charge something like 0.0025 per token. It would cost tens of thousands just to stand up a repo with some slop in it.
I can't remember whether its my company policy or a copilot policy, but we're using enterprise wide pools now too, so that each developer uses out of that entire pool. We're definitely going to have some devs/teams draining while others only trickle out of it. That'll be SUPER FUN if we use to the limit and one day everyone just can't call agents because some other fuckers drained the usage.

what do you call this brand of autism where otherwise above average iq competent people are functionally retarded and cannot contribute to society in any meaningful way because they refuse to execute shit in a way that works?
I see it all the time in dpt too. Instead of making projects people actually want to use they make niche shitty emulators in C for outdated systems no one plays and better alternatives exist. Like making a text style d&d game in 2026.
Why the fuck wouldn't you just host your shit on AWS instead of dealing with the headache of physical servers on terrible hardware?

>>
>>108968400
If they're so smart why don't they start a housing/homeless-support nonprofit as a side gig? It's not like they don't have the money and they'll probably get tax write-offs.
Surely it's not because CEOs are actually incapable of solving problems outside of the sandboxes where they set the rules, so most of them avoid doing anything outside of that sandbox at all costs.
>>
>>108971674
>Why the fuck wouldn't you just host your shit on AWS instead of dealing with the headache of physical servers on terrible hardware?
Not sucking Amazon's dick is a good starting point.
But besides that, I can understand the autistic need to have access to the bare metal, even if it adds a whole fucking slew of bullshit upkeep. If a server goes down in an Amazon data center, not being physically present to see what the problem is could naturally make people nervous. It's dumb, but I understand it.

For sure, anyone even halfway serious about wanting to do SaaS for business would at the very least pay for colocation, if not just straight up use AWS since it's dirt fucking cheap. You don't have to like a company to utilize their shit.

>>
>>
>>
>>108971940
They're not being paid. C-suits are just retarded. All of the positions have devolved into sales and networking jobs over time. You might assume jobs based on bullshitting would be less susceptible to it, but because they are so stupid and they drink their own cool aid, they are actually some of the most susceptible marks because they think the con strategies are just 'things that work' because they (a smart person, surely) employ them, and don't realize they're being conned.
>>
>>
>>108971940
>>108971985
I think it's retarded executives too. I dunno what sort of seminars these idiots are attending, but like lemmings they're all parroting some line about how "Our organization is severely behind in AI adoption and this is putting our competitive advantage at risk."
And as a result, the job definitions are becoming more vague. Objectives are becoming more vague. Product requirements are becoming more vague.
I feel like the integrity of this company (if there ever was any) just evaporated in under six months.
FDA regulated products btw. Apparently that doesn't matter either. Just a glorified checkbox on a sheet of paper.

>FDA regulated products btw. Apparently that doesn't matter either.
It's true, this doesn't matter especially under the current admin (and likely foreseeable ones that will be convinced to continue failing to regulate while "Regaining public trust in government" by lobbyists. But that's another story).
I will say, there IS an actual element of this I will cut CEO's slack on, and that's that the only way to boost investment right now is to pretend your an AI company. So in a sense that can be helpful. But I would say that the vast majority of CEOs/C-suite people are not in that camp. It's really funny actually, I talk to a lot of these people casually and you'll go to an event, everybody is talking about how AI 100x'd their productivity, and then essentially all of them in private are like
>I can't say it to investors, but I'm not seeing those gains! I don't know what we're doing differently than these other companies who are using AI more efficiently!
Like... Bro... Maybe they're lying the same way YOU ARE ALSO LITERALLY LYING ABOUT IT?! You're not supposed to be lying about your company, hearing the same lies about other companies, and then trying to adjust your business to conform to the a model that only works if the lie that YOU KNOW IS A LIE, is true.
Honestly, it's so strange.
Anyway, yes, businesses have become completely unfocused. I agree.

Software development was my hobby and I also turned it into my job because I'm retarded. Will working on cool projects on weekends keep the interest alive or speed up the process of me hating it?

In my opinion it would improve your career prospects but not particularly your love for life unless you work on something extremely enjoyable or purposeful
If you make software for a living then the best thing you could do for yourself outside of work is anything else

There is plenty of time after work to both exercise and pursue your hobbies. I guess what happens to most people is that they can't be bothered to do any hobbies any more because then they won't have time to play videogames or watch tv or browse the internet. You have to choose.

Building crud sloppa and weird game engines are not the same activity. It's like claiming that writing legal documents is the same as writing stories because both require writing text in English.

not really. if you think that way, then you probably never had it as a high priority to begin with. that's okay, because it's okay to work just for money and it's no lesser than if it was something you love or if you don't
if you love it then you will find a way to make time for it. it's that simple.

The activity is not the same, but the format is the same. Much like line cooking and home cooking are not the same, but line cooks rarely cook elaborate meals at home because they're tired of cooking all day anyway.

>he proomptmaxxed with agents and made all his prompts contain a shitton of garbage instructions
