There's just better sketchbooks for how much they cost. I'm using one right now but want to switch to another brand because I'm tired of how the paper reacts to half of the art supplies I use in them.
I think they're decently well constructed at the very least. I've never had paper fall out, only had it get loose in one sketchbook after a lot of abuse. I'm likely switching to a Leuchtturm next. I swear moleskine used to be better quality like 15 years ago.

I use 5-15$ ring sketchbooks and never had problems with shit falling out, and like im retardidly abusive.
Nice quality books are nice but quality should be reserved for notes, as they are "less sturdy" and more important than images. Used to main the "peter pauper press" sketchbooks as they were cheap-ish and pretty sturdy.
There is value is good quality paper, want to get into book binding so I can have nice ass paper with a proper leather cover. Brownline executive planners are quite leasing to look at, and it would be really funny to bind a comic like that, including gold leaf lettering on the cover.
So yes, I make fun of you for being a fag but I appreciate things that feel nice, even if my quality judgements arent particularly quantitative, and moreso based off of qualitative properties a consumer retard like me can appreciate.

here's my comparison for water based mediums (fountain pen, watercolor)
midori MD is my favorite
leuchtturm is a good, but i find many more "oil spots" on the paper, where the ink doesn't adhere. maybe i'm just greasy af but i am not noticing this on midori
moleskine is.... really expensive pencil sketch paper. cannot handle fountain pen ink and pills immediately with water.
I do not use ANY of these for my regular pencil sketching. i waste cheaper sketchbook paper on that. i would be spending hundreds of dollars a year on sketchbooks full of studies since i go through them so fast

i'm not super picky if it's just for pencil. i'm not a graphite master or anything. I will try just about any thrift store sketchbook that doesn't have a dealbreaker point. strathmore 300/400 and canson xl are good. the strathmore 300 sketch im using right now is taking ink, which is unexpected but welcome.
i'm picky about size (9x12 or larger) because small ones are uncomfortable to use. I slightly prefer ringed over bound due to desk space when open
koh-i-noor "in and out" pages were the worst sketchbooks i have ever used. the pages are really good at removing themselves and getting caught in the rings. it's infuriating. do not buy it

idk what's up but I don't really mind if you like ring-bound sketchbooks, I just prefer stitched pages because I travel with my sketchbook so it's a little rough on it. I'm not saying a ~$20 to 30 sketchbook is necessary for everyone, frankly, I'm planning to switch away to a different main sketchbook brand myself because it's not worth the price for me anymore.

Looking back in these threads and suprised that i've only told one story about stupid shit I did.
Had one come to mind tonight. its a little funny.
So like last summer I was drinking pretty much nightly/daily and one night after finishing a bottle or so of vodka I felt really depressed, so I walked over to the highway and lay down in the road. Construction truck pulls up, this big butch lady jumps out and I kinda get up and start "running" into the woods. She overtakes me and pins me down, tries to get some information but im way too drunk to speak at that point. She calls the cops, I get cuffed and put into the car. Wake up in the hospital in a soundproofed concrete room, apparently I was chill enough that they just left the door open. They see me pacing or bashing my head against the wall so I get fed antipsychotics and pass out. They also gave me 4 or 5 cups of apple juice and had me piss in a cup. Wake up, lean the matress against the wall and the toilet so that I cant be seen and hide. They pull me out of the room and place me on a bed beside some dying person. I had to call my mom to pick me up and explain what had happened in the morning, which really sucked. My recorded BAC was only like 0.27, but that was a few hours after getting involuntarily transported.

I am burning years away of my life accomplishing and doing nothing of value.
If I continue with post secondary, despite being 3 years in it will be at minimum 2 years for a degree due to failing classes and switching majors, and its in a feild I cant work in anymore.
I have been working stupid physical labour jobs that are unsustainable, from them I have transient tendonitis and nerve damage in both of my forearms.
I cant do them well anymore but I really dont have a choice.
Drawing here is just a bandaid for the utter lack of meaning and direction in my life, currently.
I hate every second of this. I need to figure something else out fast.

You're so young still dude, it's fine to fall off track as long as you get back on it again. It's not an uncommon experience to quit drinking and fall back into it when stress gets worse, you just need to not fall into black and white thinking where you feel that sobriety is over because you had a trip up if that's how you feel at all. All that matters if you try again.
Find a healthy place for you, if this place makes you fall back into bad habits, then try to find new places to be. Maybe find a therapist and be honest with them. Even if you don't have insurance there's a way. If you're taking steps to better your life then you're not wasting time at all.
Realistically with college degrees, a lot of people don't end up using their degrees, it can just be a dumb hurdle you have to jump through. It can still be worth it to have a degree even if it's unrelated but you have to figure that out yourself, maybe talk to an advisor. Even just an associates can be helpful with finding jobs.
