>>7951158 Because it's often used when it's totally inappropriate. Like people are talking about the business of the art industry, someone might mention dropping quality, and someone's response will be 'pyw'. What's their own artistic ability got do to with their taste and judgement on the quality of a product? And I'm sure someone will hilariously say pyw to this post, but again, what's the quality of my work got do with my opinion here, or this post?
That said, if you're going to critique someone's work on here, acting as if your some form of authority, you should be able to back up your own skills with your own work. We can see this right now in >>7862151 where some crab faggot seems to have completely derailed the thread by critiquing someone's work, and refusing to post their own work or redline the work they're critiquing, and deflecting by saying the criticisms are just observable. Just telling them to pyw and ignoring them if they don't is the way to go, otherwise you're just going to help derail the thread by trying to debate them.
>>7951188 Haha, this has happened to me more than a few times. I even try to respond to a fair few others' work and say what I like about their work - they often don't even so much as respond with a 'thank you' though. Oh well, lead by example, and be the change you want to be, and all that.
>>7951202 >Because it's often used when it's inappropriate. that's also my only gripe with it It's not even funny because the timing isn't even right a lot of times
>>7951202 >Like people are talking about the business of the art industry, someone might mention dropping quality, and someone's response will be 'pyw'. Yeah, this is used too often to say that you disagree with someone. You say "post your work" to say that if they don't post their work, then what they're saying is obviously wrong. And if they do post their work, you can shit all over it and say it's bad work to also prove that what they're saying is wrong. What logical fallacy is that? Ad hominem? I don't really know. In any case, it makes for poor discourse.
However. The thread you are referring to, and the anon you are critiquing, those posts he is making is his art. It's performance art. If you're going to critique it, you should pyw.
>>7951202 >We can see this right now in >>7862151(Cross-thread) where some crab faggot seems to have completely derailed the thread by critiquing someone's work, and refusing to post their own work or redline the work they're critiquing i hid it right after spotting that faggot because i knew the thread was done. there wont be coming many other drawings that will surpass most of the threads great anons that attempted and succeeded. overall it has been a very good thread. >pyw here is the outline from my piece that i posted
Posting your work here is genuinely a waste of drawings. In general, posting here more than just your usual zoomer brain rot is simply a waste. There are way too many outright malicious individuals farming this board trying to make any kind of thing impossible.
>>7951220 Ultimately, a thread's fate isn't due to the crabs, it's the attention they're given. Just look at how long the reply chain is for that one retard. ONE retard shit up the thread that much.
>>7951238 honestly, it's not that the troll will stop even if he gets ignored. even then, making fun of someone that can't control themselves is not really an art or trolling for that matter
>>7951158 It doesnt mean anything, its just a non sequiter. Like "fuck you". You don't actually want to fuck them, you're just signalling that you do not like what they said and that it bothered you.
The problem of art circles is that they're either an hugbox or a nuclear reactor; never something inbetween. It's also pretty insane that artists have no sense of humor.
>>7951270 >It's also pretty insane that artists have no sense of humor. Artists clearly can have a sense of humour, or humorous comics and cartoons wouldn't be a thing. It's moreso that many are overly sensitive and can't take criticism.
Though I do think that artists have become more left leaning politically, and that crowd as a whole has seemingly lost their sense of humour, but that's neither here nor there.
>>7951283 >Though I do think that artists have become more left leaning politically, and that crowd as a whole has seemingly lost their sense of humour Sorry we don’t find misogyny, racism, and transphobia to be funny, MAGAtard.
>>7951168 I dont really like this piece at all. First it's fanart which isnt inherently bad but its also not very original looking either which is worse to me fanart is nice but if I dont know an artist I'd like to see something that represents their own ideas more than just pre-existing ones. For the piece itself you just chose a bunch of generic tropes from that are popular and acceptable online like Anime woman Dommy mommy with abs very annoying. Even the environment this character is in is generic here where you give her ringlight reflection under her boobs and her abs getting lighting from the opposite direction there's just nothing about it thats really all that impressive and really does just come off as low effort coomer work. All of this is personal preference of course but you should know your work does not stand out at all. So far? Not a fan.
Also here is something I made since were in the pyw thread.
>>7951158 PYW is generally used when someone calls someone else's art dogshit or otherwise gives unhelpful, nitpicky, and/or vague advice (anatomy bad). It makes people angry for the simple fact that they can't post their work and they understand that they have no real artistic legs to stand on... or, you know, they're too much of a pussy to reveal themselves.
Anyone who disagrees with this is the type of combative, condescending idiot who gets hit with >PYW All the time.
>>7951168 >>7951246 You should really work on your shading. Right now you are in this limbo between simple anime and more realistic stylization. It's busy and you lose subtlety, but at the same time it looks wrong and unrealistic. tl;dr Tone it down or ramp up the quality.
>>7951425 I swear I hate his art and he seems like your garden variety coomer but posting art on the art board is not against the rules and there are only two posts here
>>7951509 It is all right. I would recommend working on your composition. Also, you might want to review a little bit of Loomis fundamentals. The colors are nice, though.
>>7951470 >Irrevocably based for posting your work next to your opinionated nitpicking. Of course! In my opinion you don't really need to be a good artist to criticize a piece but I see the importance of PYW for here being it's evidence that you are apply your own advice and not talking out your ass.
>>7951283 >>7951270 So-called artists online, who really should call themselves illustrators, are childish and naive, as evidenced by their ignorant use of the word "artist" over "illustrator." And said childish naive illustrators are also emotionally immature, therefore falling into online social conformity tendencies and wanting to signal that they are indeed the childish romanticized image that they have of an "artist" and all of the stereotypes that come with it.
>>7951545 >allat Get a better computer then instead of practicing your ebomics knowledge on 4chan >>7951547 He's crossing his feet but I'll keep this in mind that could probably be better shown visually to avoid confusion
>>7951565 Nta but my 2 cents is. The value ranges are too close with the background. The colors bleed into the subject and other elements so the image is hard to read.
>>7951901 I'm not the author, dumbass. any self respecting artist should study anatomy as much as possible. you've been exposed for being a moron that can't tell the difference between AI and a genuine illustration and have now you're moving the goalposts where you try to tell people how to draw. you lack self awareness, begtard.
>>7951427 >tl;dr Tone it down or ramp up the quality. Yeah bro this has honestly been something I have been working on recently but I think it's either a 'tism or compulsion that any lighting I give her I feel compelled to add it on every limb/crevice/etc of hers, but like you said it's too busy and can ultimately fuck up the whole thing.
I have been working on toning it down but sometimes it does straight up slip through when it comes to the thematic presentation (like this one where Hela's in a THICC steamy jungle environment)
Appreciate the feedback Playa, fuck realism I'll work on toning it down in the future.
>>7952751 >fuck realism I'll work on toning it down in the future That's definitely the right way to go I think. Like, the one you posted here looks much better than the other two. Simple and appealing af. Personally I would just slightly darken the ambient occlusion shadow to make the forms pop a bit more. Everything else is great.
>>7952789 >Everything else is great >shitty careless lines everywhere >no coherent grouping of shadow shapes >sloppy half assed rendering thrown everywhere that poorly defines the forms >awful highlights that doesn't make sense (though that's all anime gooner slop material)
You should pity the crab. Do not taunt them. Do not abuse them. It is by the grace of art alone that you too did not end up as a nodraw crab. Miracles can happen.
I hope one day every crab learns to have fun like I did. I am very lucky.
