We all start somewhere, anon. No one is good at photography (or anything) from the start. They build that skill over time by taking thousands and thousands of mediocre photos while they develop an understanding not just of how to take photo good, but what "good" means for them in the first place; art is subjective like that. Keep taking photos and don't worry about if they're "good" or not, but instead just have fun with the process. And in time, you will develop the skills to improve your craft, and determine what you want to achieve with your photography, too. We're a bunch of grown adults playing with dolls, at the end of the day. Don't take it too seriously.

Fuck. I ordered some of the new Dolpa 55 outfits from Volks JP the other day because I thought it would take some time for them to show up on the US store and I really wanted one of them ASAP, but they just got listed on the US store today and my order from JP still hasn't even shipped yet. Probably saved a lot of money ordering from JP anyway, so maybe it's not all that bad. (A ¥8,700 outfit (~$55) is $96 on the US store for example).
>>
>>50950373
>(A ¥8,700 outfit (~$55) is $96 on the US store for example).
yeah, but the problem is the Volks' oversea shipping fee (2200yen) + tariff(10%-ish) + import documents fee($15) that you will have to pay on top of the $55 vs $96...
I think in the end you'll save only about ~$8.
>>
>>
>>50950581
I think your math is assuming I only ordered the one outfit, but I actually ordered a few things, so the savings should be more than $8 in the end. The part where I really fucked up is that I actually placed two orders. I got the email while at work and just ordered a few things that I really wanted on my break as I worried they might sell out, and then had a more thorough look at the offerings after I got home and placed another order for more things. So I'll have to pay the shipping and "import documents" fees twice. Oof.

I'm sorry you're having a bad day, anon. I hope tomorrow is a brighter one.
>>
>>50950373
>>50950581
I can tell you right now it's still going to be cheaper to order from Volks JP even after the shipping and tariffs, especially if you're buying multiple items. Don't beat yourself up about it. Your doll isn't going to notice that she doesn't have her clothes as fast as someone else's doll anyway.
>>50950592
The trick is to just buy in bulk. The tariffs on imports from Japan aren't that bad. It's that stupid fee on top of the tariffs (I guess the paperwork fee?) that's annoying, but it's not so bad when you have a larger/more expensive cart of stuff. Certain shipping options also have the tariffs included in the shipping fee so you're not surprised. I can't remember which ones off the top of my head, though, sorry.

>taking your dolls outside
I know it doesn't sound like good advice, but the best thing is to just not worry about it. My experience is that the people who give me looks are almost always "huh, that's not expected" and it doesn't go any deeper than that. If you act like you're doing something embarrassing or gross, people are going to assume that you are. If you carry yourself well and act as if nothing is out of the ordinary, people will treat you just the same.
>>
>>50968807
I live in an area with a lot of young families and eldery and don't want to freak them out even moreso because I already stand out here because of my race (dont live in america so etiquette is a bit different here)
Also dont want to get my doll dirty or broken from anything.. dont really have a good stand for outdoors? or carrying case
But I want to take some fun pictutes ..
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>50969549
If they get dirty, you can just clean them. I'm not saying to treat your dolls with neglect, but they're more hardy than you might think. You can get "proper" carrying cases if you want, but you can also get cheap tripod bags that work much the same. Stands are also most helpful when the doll is, well, standing, so you can just take pics of her sitting down if you don't have a stand.
>>
>>50969549
>a lot of young families and eldery and don't want to freak them out
This is all in your mind. Have they actually been freaked out by you? Just get over it and be more based. Its not like you're selling drugs or dancing nude in public.
>I already stand out here because of my race
I don't know the specifics, but racists exist everywhere. But, I believe most people aren't racist enough to care that you are taking photos of a doll. If some racist comes at you, its probably not your fault and definitely not because you are taking photos of a doll outside.
>dont want to get my doll dirty or broken
Anything can get damaged or broken. Just take good care of it like anything else, a car, a watch, and don't be careless.
>dont really have a good stand
Just buy one or have your doll leaning against a wall or tree. Try sitting poses. Taking photos invokes your creativity!
>carrying case
Literally just need a bag. You could hold your doll the entire trip like something precious.
>But I want to take some fun pictutes
Thats all it takes! Go outside and have fun!
>>
>>50968488
I just take them out and take photos of them as if I were doing to to any other object I see, such as a flower, a boat, or whatever I think is cool.
I like lower traffic areas because I have more space to do my set ups but that's about it.
>>
File: 1768827839988141.gif (134.8 KB)
Often, when I'm having an especially bad day, I'll sit at my computer with a doll in my lap, and it will, genuinely, make me feel a lot better. I'll even sit there, holding their hands. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing, but it definitely is the truth.
>>
>>
>>
>>50969549
It's easy to tell strangers on the internet "just do it sunshine just be yourself" but if you have a bad feeling about it then follow your gut. Remember that the person telling you this good feel shit might get around his daily life in a fursuit with his cock out for all you know. Male + dolls here will brand you as gay or a sexual deviant who fucks dolls, possibly a pedo, and other unwashable bad shit I would never want to deal with. I would never take the dolls anywhere I can be recognized.

Always go with your gut, but don't be afraid to try something new. I'm in rural West by-god Virginia where it's common for people to answer their door gun in-hand, and at most when I'm out photographing dolls (or toys, or stuffed animals, etc) I will get people coming up to ask me questions about what I'm doing and why. In the age of instagram and tiktok, if you walk around holding something weird, but also a camera, people seem to just assume it's an internet thing in my experience. Little old ladies will come over not to ask why you're in their neighborhood, but to tell you in detail about their porcelain or reborn collections. And if other people are a worry, take them on trips if you ever go, whether it's on an actual vacation or just innawoods, assuming you go outside (no judgment if not, the woods is a luxury not everyone can access if you're in the middle of, say, the desert.) Being aware of your surroundings and how people might act is always good, but I think people, especially younger ones, tend to overestimate how many fucks people have to give about Joe Random they pass by on the street. This is no weirder than taking photos of your meal for a blog, and far less obnoxious by comparison. (Of course, if you have no interest in doing any of that, that's fine too. Just having them at home to look at is also lovely.)

So instead of outdoor photo shoot, I bought some acrylic nail stickers for like $2 awhile back. It takes some work to apply and trim them doll sized but they are actually quite nice quality!

Thanks for this. Azone's branding for their doll bodies is really confusing. I've lost track of the 1/6 stuff. For 1/3 they did, what? 45(S/M/L), 48(S/M/L), 50(S/M/L), then AZ02(C/G/I)? What the heck was AZ01?

She's the TinyFox (Arachne) I got a little while ago. I haven't taken her out as much as the others, since I want to change her wig/eyes some. Her fullset has this cute back ribbon, but it really messes with her long hair when you move her around, so it is not ideal for the sort of pictures I take. Ah look who's back on the operating table. Maybe a 4th time will get the Imomo body into something decent. The local library has a 3d printer, so I've been prototyping connectors to fix the shoddy lower body frame. I might swap everything below the knee for Obitsu GGR parts, but ehhh that's money I don't really want to spend on body that'll be (maybe) replaced.

Out of curiosity I checked out the bjd subreddit once. One of the first posts I saw was someone complaining that the occassional lewd/sexy doll outfits are "problematic" and "objectifying women".

None of my dolls wear trashy gooner shit. Just cute gothic lolita, some jirei kei and some trad dresses. Sometimes some risque underwear and legwear mostly hidden. Nobody is obligated to like everything. Its just psychotic to bring politics into this and try to portray the things you dislike as some moral failing. Its very much a reddit hivemind thing to do.
In the first place plenty of middle aged woman like dressing their dolls in slightly risque outfits too, as you said the hobby is dominated by woman, most social media isnt exactly anonymous.
>>
>>50987782
The boobs are nice, but Imomo's real standout point is the lower body proportions and stomach sculpt. On the vinyl side of things only Dollbot is comparable, and good luck getting those. Thankfully there's a growing selection of shapely hip parts.

That's the world we live in now. I think it increases my enjoyment of the hobby that I don't talk or post about it anywhere other than here. I have a xwitter account but never post, it is just for following company feeds for product announcements and such. Otherwise I avoid social media like the plague it is. That way I can enjoy dressing up my girls any way I want without having to get crapped on by these 'people'. Here's a pic as thanks for reading my blog.

I tend to avoid BJD communities like the plague due to their behavior. Even though I do prefer resin as a material just because it's much less stain prone. I greatly prefer the anime asthetic though, but there's a ton of resin sculpts that cater to that now. I feel I fit in much more with the otaku and MDD side of the doll sphere. Even though I probably wouldn't buy a vinyl doll body again because of the anxiety of staining it.
Maybe hybrids are the master race. Vinyl heads on resin bodies.

It's almost like there's multiple women with different mental illnesses out there!
Sometimes the nooo don't sexualize my microkini loli or w/e does coincide and I'd love to know how that works out in their minds but not at the cost of opening up that interaction.
>>
>>
>>50988878
I'm pretty sure the Japanese otakus posting their MDDs in micro bikinis are not posting in the western BJD subreddits. And if they were they would be complaining about that and not objectifying women. What it really is about is plastic dolls making grown middle age women feel insecure about their own appearance. That's always what it is when somone mentions objectification. But I'm not sure why you're arguing on their behalf here, they wouldn't step foot here and can't see you defend their honor. It's not the place for it.

I've set an alarm before if I have a pretty good idea when pre-orders are going live, in this case I only had the date. It's just like getting Bandai stuff from HLJ. It's possible, but you have to hit a 15-minute window with little advance warning, usually in the middle of the night, and compete with Chinese scalpers to boot. I find that for shoes that JB weld original works best. But it takes like 10 hours+ to dry. It doesn't stick at all after you just applied it, so you might need a clamp just to hold the pieces together.
Super glue and Rubber cement does not hold at all for shoes.
For pleather surfaces, its a pain. Completely sand off the good and bad cracked parts of the surface and repaint with leather paint. I wouldn't bother if its some minor cracks.
