As little as physically possible so many years in most cases. Unless it's a collector piece I shoot guns until they stop working which pretty much never happens

Won me an auction last night on a S&W 500 for $899 ($1000 after shipping and taxes). Gun certainly has some wear in the pics but its all cosmetic and will be easily polished away. Spending the money I saved on ammo instead.

I clean them if they're going into the big safe, whatever's not in the big safe just gets shot and lubed until the next time it sees the big safe. I love living in the desert where nothing rusts or rots.

Is this normal wear for the under side of a Glock barrel? There's some on the top, too, but less.

It were sarcasm, anon, that wear is perfectly normal.
>>
>>
>>64888855
It does vary, some do more, some do less, notably people have said the GenV Glocks wear more noticeably than previous ones and it's often attributed to tighter fitment, and the finish on the barrel of course makes a big difference in how it will wear. It's gotta be really excessive to indicate an issue.

.22 enjoyers please how could I custom my MkIV 22/45 Tac a bit ? I want to like it, but I don't currently. Upper rail is too big, irons are quite meh. I'd need a small red dot, not mailbox-tier. Also 10 rounds but i'm stuck with that.
>when I say "custom"
I just mean small improovments with small new parts, not fully different slides or else. The overall aesthetic should remain quite the same I guess.
>also i'm euro
Tandemkross and Volquartsen (and maybe Ruger) are shipping to Europe through EasyExport. I could probably buy non-ITAR parts. But no mags, no full slides or frames, and so on. Any input could help, thanks, moreso from MkIV enthusiats.

Look at vortex and holosun for small optics. No need for a trijicon rmr or sro on a 22 plinker. You can always remove the rail or irons. Maybe an enhanced bolt or trigger.

Haven't cleaned or lubed my 92 in ages. It's starting to not lock back on empty mags so I'm going to have to lube it soon. Could have been the ammo too.
>>64889057
They don't charge less for no cerakote, but you get it back quicker.
>>
>>64889118
anons have noticed that between frames the mag release is in a slightly different position so mags can either sit higher or lower in different frames. you might have a low sitting frame so you might need stronger magazine springs (?) or follower tuning or something to get the slide to lock back more positively.

Walther mogs based on this. It's honesty insane how cheap they are compared to their quality. It's a 1/4 price HK for something like a PPS.
Also in other news. Jay at EA told me a slide stop spring for a Five-seveN hasn't been available for 2 years. WTF FN! He's currently having them made as they're a common break item apparently.

Many years ago I was at the local range and was talking to an RSO I was friends with. He mentioned that it was a red letter day as the man who made his very expensive custom 1911 was coming to visit. I hung around until the man showed up.
I will never forget the look of reverence on the gunsmith's face as his fingertips traced the holster wear on the 1911. The RSO looked a tad worried and apologized for not taking better care of it. The gunsmith waved him off and said "This is what I always hope to see and never do.

I believe I was the one that found this out actually. This was because I got aftermarket baseplates and they needed some fitting to work in all my 92s. I think this one is just dirty. I literally never clean my shit until they demand my attention. Picrel is I think the last time I lubed it.

The frauds who wrote “combat revolver” manuals and training said that SA in combat is to never be used. That all your shooting will be from DA, wasting time cocking the hammer in combat will get you killed and how light the trigger is an liability
>>
>>64889764
what does "very few shooters" mean. Like yea nobody at USPSA uses revolvers, but for CCW, there is just "very few shooters" in general. Even cops almost always go their whole career without shooting someone.
>>64889756
340pd or 360pd. Use 38+p if ur a pussy. a snub nose revolver is just about the hardest gun to shoot so you better be well trained if you want to hit a silhouette past 10 yards.

It's the best model they currently make if you don't care about weight. You can polish the stainless infinitely and it takes .357 if you really want to. Basically every other concealed hammer j frame smith makes is painted or coated in some way and they get cruddy as fuck after a couple years. When the gun is raw stainless they actually have to pay attention to what they're doing and can't just bead blast it and coat it before sending it out the door.
I like the 60 but I already have a J frame with a hammer and its not really that important.

they are only like 1100. There is one on caguns for like 900. They sacrifice literally nothing over any other J frame. The trigger pull is actually better because it has a titanium cylinder.
.38+p in a 1.875 inch barrel with only 5 shots is getting close to dangerously underpowered.

Advice for lubrication? Been carrying a Tisas B45R for around 2 years now but it's constantly been having failure to feed issues because the slide seems to get stuck moving forward unless it's sopping wet with oil. Tried Hoppes oil and that stuff burns off immediately after a few mags whenever I'm at the range. Tried motor oil (0W20?) and it lasts a bit longer but still experiencing the same issue. Could very well be my weak ass wrists not handling the recoil properly but any advice is welcome. Also picked up a Beretta M9 and worried I'm over oiling it so do let me know what you guys use or where I could go find this info for myself. Don't really trust the people on Reddit for sound advice so I'm trying to avoid that whenever possible. Heavily considering switching to the Beretta for daily carry for that same reason. Thanks in advance.
Oh and before anyone asks why I didn't just go for a glock or something instead of a 1911 to prevent the issue entirely I'm just stubborn as hell and kind of a tard. Just really wanted one as a first gun so here we are.

>Also picked up a Beretta M9 and worried I'm over oiling it so do let me know what you guys use or where I could go find this info for myself.
I have just the video.
https://youtu.be/p9bOT_d60LM?t=58
Failure to feed. Hmm, what is the bullet doing when failing to feed? It might be more of a magazine issue. Or is the slide like 1/4 of an inch from going into battery. It might be a 1911ism and not a oil issue.
Have you tried replacing the recoil spring?
I use coomlube (nano arms, we call it coomlube since it's milky white), mostly because it's made by an non, but also because it's good.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, basically as you described. Most times the slide is just shy of going into battery but stopping short about 1/4 of the way there. Replaced recoil springs with a wilson combat spring (15lbs?). As far as over-oiling I know it's not exactly an issue to have more oil than needed within reason but I hate having it get all over my hands when handling it. Thanks for the tip by the way I'll definitely check out your suggestion.
>>
>>64889981
>Replaced recoil springs with a wilson combat spring (15lbs?)
what caliber bro.
commander .45 (4.25) is 18-22 pounds, government length .45 (5) is 16-20 pounds (could go lighter but why)
nano arms is nice since it comes with a needle applicator, you don't need alot of oil, you just need oil where you need it. slide rails, barrel lugs, bushing is basically it on a 1911.
>>
>>64889867

Reminder that C&R guns are exempt from the roster, so any gun from 1976 or older is legal. Single action revolvers are also exempt from the roster. Virtually any revolver can be converted to single action, so you can nearly get any modern revolver legally too (outside of modern snubnoses that don't fit the minimum size requirements, but C&R snubbies are still fair game).

Step it up to a 18-20 pounds recoil spring. That’s what I use in my .45s, specifically the 18 lb round wire or the 20 pound flat wire.
Something can be robbing the slide of energy going forward, the disconnector spring tension could be too high, a feeding/magazine issue, or maybe something else.

If you want a snub there's the kimber k6s, which might be a little out of your price range. Other than that there's the Diamondback sdr and Smith and Wesson J frames. Smith and Wesson probably have the most spotty QC right now, but best aftermarket. Although most people don't buy revolvers for their aftermarket.
>>
>>64889856
I carry mine pretty often iwb. It's ok, basic but I kinda want one with removable sights and a shrouded hammer or at least a slightly bobbed hammer. The best thing about it is with rubber grips there's nothing to poke my tummy so it's very comfortable.
>>

I remember back in like 2013 people said beretta m9 was unreliable don't get it. hated it in the service. etc. now all of a sudden m9 is extremely trendy and highly regarded. what happened? I've never shot one. was that just glockfags back then fudding or what?
>>
>>
>>64890594
The ones in the military would go tens of thousands of rounds without being maintained properly and would be used for shit like hammering spikes into the ground for tents. I work with a guy who absolutely hated the M9 in the military because "the finish had worn off of them so during the day, the light reflecting off of it would blind you at the range". Yeah, no gun is immune to being clapped out
>>
>>
>>64890699
As far as I can tell it's because some of it is polymer. I agree I've always thought they were cool but I guess if anyone wants an older Sig they want to go all the way and have a completely steel gun like a 226 or 229.
>>
>>
>>
>>64890699
Its a budget gun with the same issues as the ar 18. Everyone knows its not the best, its not even the 2nd best or the 3rd. It was made to meet a pricepoint. Which is fine in a vacume when its only compared to the 1 gun it was made to undercut but there are a fuckload better designs in the same price range and you also have used guns to compete with. People used to say shit like 2022 is 80% of a 226 at 50% of the price. And its true 80% a good enough gun but that missing 20% you feel it in performance if you ever had the chance to shoot em side by side. The 2022 was a worse gun. They also did some what scummy stuff to keep the price low. This is based off 2010 pricing. Sig 2022 350-400 dollars which sound good right thats cheap. Except it only came with 1 mag. spare oem mags were 40-50 each. Meanwhile the more expensive glock that you were too poor to afford is 500 and comes with 3 mags. the spare mags were 20 dollars. If you wanted 5 mags total all of a sudden what you saved on the cheaper gun is gone. Holsters ahaha.
Then you got the polymer frame. Polymer means light right? Lighter than a metal 226 but still really heavy for a polymer gun. The frames are heavy. People dont want to admit they are poor and are buying the good enough gun with better guns exist. It wasnt cheap enough to be that budget gun everyone would buy. It was cheap for a "sig".
>>
>>64890699
People used to not be able to shut up about it, because it was a Sig and it was very inexpensive. But they're gone now, out of production maybe? Dried up at least, they're not $250 anymore, so out of sight out of mind

I had a new old stock issued to me in the army in mid-late 2010s or whatever and I have something positive to say. People tend to regurgitate whatever they’ve been told, but military M9s were fucked for multiple reasons
>25k round service life per the contract IIRC, guns were shot way beyond that. Same issue with the M60, the frame/receivers were meant to be replaced but never did
>ammo supply infected with proof loads, Olin/winchester accidentally released an unknown amount of ammo into the pool that was like 50-60k psi (double that of standard 9mm)
>improper maintenance, the locking block is supposed to be replaced before it breaks, letting it break damages the frame.
>Army chose cheaper 3rd party magazines that had a worse finish that trapped sand inside the magazine and would cause it to jam in sandy environments
>the gun wasn’t really sand proof, people meme about the big hole in the slide but the bigger issue was sand getting into the hammer strut area fucking with the hammer
>>
>>64890853
I meant that their friend in the army would tell him that it’s ass and will get you killed and everyone believes him.
The m9 is fine, it just kneecapped by the army for not letting beretta improve on the existing design and shitty mags. Beretta kept making improvements over the years but the army never adopted them, they never moved away from the Gen 1 locking block while Beretta’s Gen 3 might not need to be replaced ever (some people report extreme round counts without replacement).

Not him but I only ever shoot at indoor ranges because the outdoor ones near me are run by fudds and have retarded rules. One near me doesn't let you bring magazines with greater than 10 capacity. I live in PA, it's not even a cuck state!
>>
>>64890867
I pay 400 dollars a year to go to a really good indoor range where the ventilation is good. No rules for rapid fire or drawing from the holster, don’t even need to qualify. The quality outdoor ranges are member only and have year+ waiting lists. Action bays are available at a few outdoor ranges but you need to become an RSO to use them
I am mostly interested in shooting handguns so it doesn’t bother me. I can get a lot of shooting in if I don’t have to wait for ceasefires to change targets

Why would your expectations be low? It’s one of the goats.
I hope you don’t listen to one retard who’s only used to shooting tricked out handguns with the latest trigger jobs and optics cuts. He was simply expecting a stock duty grade gun to be like a custom 1911 or LTT 92 just because it’s kind of pricey or some retarded crap.
Go ahead and reply to me guy you know who I’m talking about. Give me that (YOU). I’m waiting.

The USPs are still made in Germany. I don't recall the specifics, but something about German proofing law changed, so they don't have to put the antlers on the slides anymore. That's why newer production has the antlers lasered on the lower instead.
>>64889771
>>64889808
There are some HK45s manufactured in Germany, but the majority that you see in the US are made in the Georgia factory. The VP9s were originally all made in Germany, but in 2020 production also began in the US. The CC9 is the only handgun from those mentioned that is truly 100% only ever manufactured in the US.
>>64890895
I actually shot at a popular (i.e. CROWDED) indoor range last weekend for weather (pouring rain) and logistics reasons (meeting a coworker midway to shoot together) and holy fucking shit it was such a terrible experience.
>range rents full auto + people with super safe AR-15 SBRs blasting on either side of you
>bad ventilation, hard to breath
>non-stop gunfire so can't communicate for shit
>can't draw from holster
>can't engage multiple targets
>can't move and shoot
>can't use a shot timer cause too much gunfire
>regulated time on range is strict
>crowded with long waitlist
>amateurs and tourists galore
>only one person can shoot at a time unless you want to pay double for another lane
>garish LED lighting
>expensive to boot
I feel blessed to have access to multiple outdoor ranges with tac bays of various sizes and extremely long ranges. Going back to an indoor range again was really eye opening. If it were all I have access to, I probably wouldn't be as into shooting as I am today.

I will admit my LTT USP with a match hammer had an exquisite SA trigger that would print one hole groups at 7-10 yards due to the OPTIC CUT and SA trigger on par with a 1911. 2.5 or less pounds.
The DA trigger was pretty bad, worse since I was comparing the full hammer down DA trigger to a beretta while the USP is supposed to be at half cock.

Yeah, I was just pointing out what is manufactured in the US by HK right now. I'm glad they keep the USP german made, its hands down my favorite pistol.
Separately, on the range issue, I have the misfortune of the outdoor ranges near me sucking total ass. I only go if I have to zero a rifle or whatever, otherwise I shoot rifles on the family land (five hours away).
The indoor ranges here are actually super nice and not run by angry old autists.
>>
>>64890867
My issue is outdoor ranges are an hour or more away. Plus, so I hear anyway, they're more regulated for the privilege to use their facility compared to pay for a lane and shoot. An effective filter I suppose, but not friendly to a poorfag new shooter.
>>
>>64889644
If I show up and there are more than 1 or 2 other people on the pistol range, I go home. The average American does not have the mental capacity to safely handle firearms. I've seen things at gun shops and public ranges that have made me question whether we should actually let these people own guns.
>>
>>
My advice to people seeking good ranges is to shoot local USPSA matches. They'll be held at places that have tac bays. The other people competing will also tell you where they train too. This will key you in to better ranges if you're struggling to find them through Jewgle. Ofc, it's entirely possible you just live in some God forsaken corner of the US that doesn't have good options.

That's really the only real benefit I can think off (aside from weather considerations).

I thought it would be kind of bad but it was in fact quite good.
I always thought they were fuckhuge guns but was surprised they’re actually a pretty normal size; even the .45 version is the size of a Beretta 92. It certainly fits smaller hands better than the Beretta.

The mo was junk. They cracked, broke, failed to function. That's what happens when you use one. They are popular now because people aren't using them hard. It's a bunch of range queens that think they know. Paper punchers shooting what amounts to low recoil training ammo and thinking they know better than the soldiers that lived with the failures. There is a reason the Marines held on to the 1911 platform till 2023. It's better.

I saw Les Baer made some under the “Prowler” model line. They were popular for competitive shooters to eke out more weight without going full sight block or ribbed barrel. I can attest they do cut down recoil versus a standard bushing 1911, nighthawk claims it tightens the lockup so you don’t need as heavy as a recoil spring.
I saw a STI 1911 with one.
Unfortunately the barrel maker who made the barrels has closed their doors. You could do the same with welding a EGW Cone Comp and trimming off the comp but for what purpose, you have a compensator already!

This blank could be cut down too. How is the barrel on that Elite Professional made if you can tell?
I assumed Wilson/Nighthawk were using barrels that were one piece to start with, but reading a little more about cone barrels you fit the hood, then attach the cone, and fit the front of the slide. Is that why cones are more accurate? Otherwise it would just be a bull barrel with more weight at the end which is what I thought before. Who used to make those barrels?

I'm currently trying to get a good rail from DefenderCo but they are sold out and i'm not sure the guy will send it outside the US. About the light, it's rather simple : Olight in the only 100 bucks model available. Streamlight goes for x3 or even x4 here. I just can't let myself getting fucked this rough. Microcomp goes for 100 bucks, from the US. Sights cost me more than 200 bucks, imported from Israel. The X-Grip style mag extension, imported from the US too, with a serious markup. I'm waiting for an extended mag lever from Spain (60 bucks). Every mag, 15 or 18 rounders, goes for 100 bucks. The can I need to buy will cost between 550 and 750 bucks. And so on.

t. noguns eurofag looking to buy first piece
I'm leaning towards a DA/SA (probably a HK USP), is that a bad idea for a first gun? I'm looking to do some casual range shootan and possibly CCW if I manage to get the license for that and not just have it locked in a safe unless im going to the range.
>>
>>64892035
>is that a bad idea for a first gun?
No, as long as you practice with it often (as you should). If you can master the DA/SA then you will find it easier to shoot pistols with any type of trigger. Don't let strikerbros scare you away from DA/SA, it's really not as hard as they make it out to be
How likely is it that you'll get this CCW in a timely manner? If you can get it easily or quickly and are into HKs, then go for one of HK's compacts (USP compact, HK45C, P2000/P2000SK/P30SK) since those are not too bad to carry while also being fun to shoot at the range.
If the CCW is a long/difficult process, I'd go with a full sized handgun first because you'll be more likely to practice with it and you won't be carrying it soon anyway.

>If you can master the DA/SA then you will find it easier to shoot pistols with any type of trigger.
That was my reasoning, and the lighter trigger after the first shot seems like a really good feature.
>How likely is it that you'll get this CCW in a timely manner?
The process can take around 2-3 months. It's not that long, the catch is I need to give a reasonable motive to own and carry a firearm. I believe I have good reason to carry one, however that is up to a commission to decide and that is inconsistent at best.
Regarding caliber is .45 reasonable to look at, or should I stick to a 9mm?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>64892228
Another nice thing about DA/SA is that it's effectively always a SA after you fire your first shot, with the bonus of being able to "restrike" without recocking the hammer or slide in the event of an exceedingly rare light strike. With a USP you can carry it decocked and on safe for the added peace of mind, and depending on how fast things are starting to go south you may have enough time to bring the hammer back to be ready. HKs are pretty solid all around if you have the money for them.
As a 45 fudd, 9mm is good. Much friendlier recoil to play with, faster velocity so flatter shooting, ammo is easier to come by, more rounds in the magazine, more guns chamber for it. Genuinely, I tell my friends that if they have to ask just stick with 9mm.

VP9s are still made in Germany, including the VP9A1 models. Both my wife's VP9A1 K and my F are imported guns, and both were bought last year. If it doesn't have German proof marks, it's because there's a workaround for guns solely marked for export and HK were being jews about it for a while there with the VP series. Thankfully both my wife's and mine have the proof marks, just on the trigger guard instead of the slide unfortunately.
