Finally getting around to watching the first episode of Gavan. A lot of tokusatsu shows in recent years have this really bad habit of trying to cram way too much shit into the first episode. It feels like they should have spent one or two episodes on just Infinity and his team rather than immediately going into another world and meeting Bushido, but I imagine they're wanting to get the main trio together as quickly as possible. Fight choreography was fairly decent and I'm glad they have at least some out of suit action, which I hope they maintain. Overall not a bad start, but it's going to take another couple of episodes to really judge how it's going to go.

Kyuranger was squandered because it began with redwank despite the series' whole marketing is about 9 members. Add that with the red being grating, it sours many people off. Another is that they ditched the space adventure aspect by immediately setting on Earth, only got to other planets (Toei's quarry) in later episodes. And also the roulette system which caused rotating rosters instead of all 9 fighting.

The show is above average but it doesn't make good use of its gimmick, Hammy is unlikeable, La Puta, Espada and the kid were shafted hard compared to the rest and the show wanks its red way too much and not in a fun way like Momotaro
However the biggest issue that dragged the show for me and the reason why I hope Mouri never gets to head a toku ever again except maybe if the show is serialized is that the motw simply weren't fun most of the time and dragged most episodes down, the 2 seasons right after Kyuranger also had this issue only even worse

But, yeah, the Lucky focus... initially they try to have him and another character spotlighted at the same time in order to cover the large team, but later on he also gets solo focus episodes. So, the shared spotlight in episodes of other characters just ends up giving him too much presence.

The only requests by the producer was all the early setup which is why the first quarter of Kyuranger is more serialized and hectic since the producer was very hands-on early on to introduce every concept and that the show should be episodic because he was afraid that being serialized would make people hate the show like Go-Busters which he also worked on
