Kind of indifferent about the finish but it was quite a bit cheaper than the same guitar in other finishes so whatever. Thin skin nitro so maybe I’ll just easily strip it off and hit it was rattlecan black or white

Maybe, for now ill just use it on a less meme setting and play around with it on other friends setups. Still sounds nice. I am curious about one thing though. A lot of iconic sounds are a combination of certain pickups, pedals and amps. Do people ever use a tone preset for a specific amp like a 5150 on their katana and run a pedal into that preset vs just running the pedal into the katana's clean channel? Forgive the dumbass questions, I'm super new and I spent the past few months actually playing the instrument instead of fucking around with pedals and amp settings.

Is there a name for this style of guitar playing where you play simple chords only using the thinnest 3 strings?
songs that come to mind:
>Chastity Belt - Seattle Party
>The Strokes - Someday, You Only Live Once (mostly)
>Mac deMarco - Cooking up something good

I ended up getting a sterling music man. Going to try this out at home and see how i like it. I hate the feeling of round wounds but I had fun playing this in the store plus it matches my strap. I also played a Rickenbacker in the store. That fret buzz thing the guy told me about at the other store just isn't true. It was definitely just an adjustment issue.

I have a very good suburban code switching accent. Even though my car smells like weed I have never been searched or got a ticket after being pulled over. Also I usually put it away in the center console thing. I forgot to lol
>>
>>
>>129945934
its 2026 theres no excuse to get a dui for weed anymore. use a cart when youre out and leave the actual bud in the trunk until you get where youre going. carts kinda suck, but theyre good enough in a pinch. i prefer joints and dry herb vapes myself

Likely to go shopping for a new guitar in Japan soon. Any recommendations on 8/9 strings with floating bridges that don't break the bank? I'd love an Explorer or V style but not enormously picky on shape as long as it fits my body well, it'll be used for metal.
Will also be looking at basses but might be hard to get it home.

I need to bring it back tomorrow and have the action adjustment. Hopefully it's free but I cant get a sound of the first fret. When I played this earlier I forgot to play along the whole fret. I was in the upper range the whole time.

Fender doesn’t make this specific model Strat in black and that’s what I really want and I’ve got tons of high temp grill paint from painting old surplus muzzle devices and blank fire devices so I’m just gonna strip it and paint it black with that

I start with the open on each string then go to the first fret. Literally just placing my finger not even trying to put pressure.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>129947787
Might need some truss rod tweaking, might need saddle tweaking, might need nut slot tweaking/new nut, not to be condescending but are you sure you’re pressing hard enough? Pressing lightly causes buzz and the first few frets are usually a little tougher to press hard. I’m assuming you are because you’ve been playing and taking lessons and everything but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Is it buzzing at the actual fret you’re playing or is it buzzing farther up the neck on a different fret?
>>
>>129947823
>>129947874
I think it needs some sort of adjustment. I played a red one of the same brand and that one I did play at the first few frets. That sounded fine so I just took this one instead when I saw it on my last scan and played it for probably 30 seconds.
>>129947921
Nah I tried all kinds of pressure. If i put the normal pressure i use while playing my p bass, no sound comes at all. I'm guessing it may have just needed an adjustment and I didn't notice since I didn't play for long.
>>
>>
I'm a liberal California indie rocker who fell on hard times due to Trump's economy, forcing me to take a job as a police man to make ends meet. Until recently, the only "thin blue line" i cared about was the racing stripe on my CIJ mustang. A few months ago, the only black thing I stomped was my Proco Rat pedal. I admit I'm still learning the ropes and coming to terms with being "the fuzz" instead of rocking out with it. Sure, I'm a fish out of water, I'm learning the ropes... but maybe I can change the system from the inside out.
>>
>>129948006
https://voca.ro/11AImsL7H8Yo
So adjusted the truss rod but I'm still getting the buzzing. This is after the truss rod adjustment using my normal pressure. After I played the MM I played my P bass using the same pressure and even played sloppy but still didn't get that buzzing that the MM has.
>>
>>
>>
>>129948242
well you said it wasn’t moving at all earlier is that an improvement? make sure it’s in tune then fret the first fret and the 17th fret at the same time and see if the string is touching the frets in the middle of the neck

what did you use? I usually use audacity, I don't remember if I processed that since it was just a lazy phone recording but normally I'd amplify, normalize, compress, and reverb just with the presets for acoustic guitar I used to try noise removal too but that always makes it sound crazy unnatural

I met Kim Mitchell once in a dive bar in Dundas Ontario. I was the lead guitarist in the opening band. So anyway, we finished our set but I had to piss real bad because I'm about 8 beer deep. I ran to the bathroom but Kim Mitchell was already there. I did my business and nodded to Mitchell and said to him "good set last night"...and I shit you not, Kim Mitchell turns to me from the urinal with cock in hand still pissing all over the floor and says "thanks man".

The second I posted it and gave it another try I was able to figure it out. I think this is it:
Am G F Em, played as root position triads. The prominent guitar melody I heard was playing the 5th of each chord.
>>
>>
>>
>>
I bought an electric guitar and plugged it in my PC and booted Rocksmith 2014. Took me a good hour but I finally managed to play the very first practice track without missing a note at "master" level (which for a practice track is still baby mode of course).
Still sounds like shit because I'm not pressing the strings well enough and I pluck them sloppily but I guess I'll come with practice.
I'm kinda terrified though, that track was literally only the E string and going 3-4-5 7-8-9 12-11-10-9 and so on and so forth. Once they add more strings and shit I'm gonna struggle hard. Thankfully I'm not in a hurry, my fingers feel very clumsy and stiff though, just doing 3-4-5 was difficult without moving my hand.

how important is it to actually keep track of playing in the correct hand positions with bass? i have pretty flexible fingers so i can stretch my pinky to the 5th fret from 2nd position instead of having to move it, but the bass method book emphasizes on them a lot
>>
>>
>>129954830
I only use 1 finger per fret if I’m playing triads or chords. switching to 3 fret fingerings is better for playing octaves and both the major and minor pentatonic. use pinky joint barring to play 5th and octave, slide down and play root and 4th with pinky and the flat 7th and flat 3rd and go down a string for lower 4th-5th. for major pentatonic keep the R58 shape but slide up to where your pinky is on the 3rd on the same string as root and now you can play the 5th and 6th on same string and root and 9th on same string. I don’t think playing the 4th sounds good when playing in a major key personally so no real loss
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>129955014
Turns out it wasnt broken. There was maybe a pocket of air or something but the guy initially thought it was broke. He smacked it and that fixed the problem. I was very happy cause I did not want to lose this MM
>>
>>129955083
they can get bound in the channel, when I did tech work I always massaged the neck before and after a truss rod adjustment by holding the heel of my hand on the body and pushing down on the tip of the neck just til I saw the strings touch the frets. you could hear them pop loose sometimes.

OK so $750 is wa-a-a-a-y too much for that guitar.
I spent $200 on mine, sunk a couple of bartolini pickups into it for maybe $150 and it sounds good enough.
The problem is, if you put it on, the balance is way towards the headstock, so you wind up having to hold up the neck with your left hand while you're playing. no bueno.
Still tho, fun instrument to have & look at.

This is a really good bass. I actually might keep rounds on it. Pretty fun to pick round and finger flat on my p bass. Hopefully I'll get a jam session with my friends this week to test it out there. I'll probably down tune it after a month of playing with it

You do both when you’re standing. Mostly it’s in the middle, but playing around open position, you’ll find that it wraps around your body based on the balance point
>angus young speaks of this
Middle is the best for RH fingerpicking, as it’s like scratching your midsection. Right leg position is when you want the open position dead and center. Look at how guitarist likediabetic Chambley play like a bow tie.
Holdsworth did the same, and you can watch guitarists put a foot on the monitor when they reach the upper sections. Unless you like slinging it low, keeping it in the middle is the best.
>pickups should be on your balls

I think this is a lot of YouTube now, but people just ramble for 5 minutes before getting to the point or talk so vaguely, you have to wonder if they even play guitar. I saw some dude doing a video on how to make neural tone vsts to sound good and he was speaking about random shit like your mindset when playing. like they are reading a wiki how script. the best channels are boomers who work on their own guitars in the style of Guy Clark or tone and pickup design autists.

you should take a note that you know works and keep incrementally adding fretting pressure until you can’t add anymore while picking it each time so you have a frame of reference for what a good and bad note sounds like

so what the fuck is up with all these youtube videos goin "yeah here's what you look for with neck relief and here's the recommended string height" and you buy all these gauges and rulers and you set it up exactly how they tell you and the first 3 frets sound like ass and it also buzzes on some frets around the 12th
>in b4 your frets are unlevel
they're not. i set up two completely different guitars with the exact same measurements and there's still buzz. is my fucking playing technique just shit? i also google if some buzz is acceptable and people say that some is excpected for "low action" but are all these youtube videos and luthier faggots really setting up these guitars with the lowest possible action every time?

this is the general consensus on other sites from what i gather. apparently this shit just lives in peoples guitars and i guess because it doesn't translate through the amp or isn't as noticeable through recordings, it doesn't fucking matter. or is it that everyone on the internet followed some stoner fucking idiots idea of what it should be like and it just caught on sometime in the 60's/70's? it just doesn't feel right.

yes, if a string buzzes, that means its hitting against the fret, and thus, its movement will be impacted, thus slowed down, and therefore maintain less momentum
buzz kills your sustain
