>actually this piece of cardboard is worth $125,000 more than that piece of cardboard because it has a pink border sports card troons are shoot mentally ill
Now watching Yes! Wonderland 2019. Looking at the card and even just looking at this screenshot, so many things have changed...except for Pom. I keep getting older, Pom's gear stays the same.
>>20436587 this just confirms my suspicions that pom's gear reeks. it looks like it traps odors like crazy, she's been wearing it forever, and you know she barely washes it.
>>20436619 Yeah, looking at her here, one could imagine her being more. But she's gotten good at her comedy schtick and occupies a decent place on the card at this point. Not everyone needs to be a main eventer. The only issue is that that generation didn't produce any main eventer at all >>20436658 I'm surprised it hasn't gotten worn out at this point. That's some hardy fabric
>On Friday, May 22, at Shinjuku FACE, and Saturday, May 30, at Azalea Taisho Hall, the same eight-woman tag team match lineup will take place for two consecutive weeks! The bout featuring Yuki Arai, Miu Watanabe, Rika Tatsumi, and Suzume against Yuki Kamifuku, Mizuki, Shio Tamami, and Mahiro Kiryu has been officially confirmed. The excitement is building in both the East and the West as we head toward the upcoming title matches!
Wow, Mirai's debut featured an appearance from Tiger Mask. Idk the full context, but it seems like TJPW was committing to her from the get-go. Too bad she could never commit to a company in the same way
>>20436887 Nah, I'm part of the wave that started watching after Itoh appeared in aew in early 2021. And I had only started watching wrestling in general in summer 2020. Though perhaps there's an alternate universe out there where I started watching in 2018. I remember seeing those ads Reika did for that maid anime, but I didn't follow up to see what she did besides body building
>>20437076 Mirai was always pretty good for TJPW, her gear was shit but she was fast and physical. It was clear she had a decently high ceiling. Then she disappeared. I did not follow to where she went. Still might be cool to go back and look at some of the old TJPW shows. I don't think people here do that enough. There is a big body of work that is often forgotten.
>>20437121 >>20437127 I haven't watched aew in a long time. It was a quick jump from wwe to aew to TJPW, which is the only promotion I've been regularly following since 2021. Anyway, Baby Bee
>>20436587 Man between Mahiro, Neko and Suzume two of them ballooned up after suffering setback injuries. I guess credit to Suzume for being as durable as she is even if she added some weight over time.
Also early Mahiro was probably the last time she actually did a dropkick. She could try again in her title match vs Suzume as a callback.
Namba posting that she brought a souvenir knife from Mexico onto the plane and then got stopped by TSA several times because of it, like an idiot who trusts ChatGPT
>>20436874 They were building her up to face Aja Kong when she abruptly quit. For whatever reason she left, it wasn't because they weren't booking her well. She jobbed to main event Miyu like everybody else but she was going to be somebody no matter where she ended up.
There was also a Raku vs Sakisama match a few years ago where Saki clearly kicks Raku super stiff, and then for the rest of the match is super gentle with her kicks. Probably caught Raku too hard with one and realized she had to lighten up.
>>20438263 Raku flinched/went down early when taking a shining wizard so Reika punched her in the head like a roid raging gorilla. I also remember her potatoing YUMI with kicks during a match because YUMI didn't get down low enough for Reika to leap over her in a leap frog spot or something like that around the same time frame.
>>20438115 They really should ban misao stacey. They’re just wasting resources on her if she won’t ever actually wrestle for tooj. She’s just drinking the free tea and taking attention away from anyone else that actually wants to become a player.
>>20438253 She debuted in TJPW not because she was in love with the TJPW style (as was the case with Suzume) but simply because it was the first place to accept her application. I think she left because she liked the stardom style better. But of course then she left stardom after a couple years for marigold, then left marigold after a couple years. I don't think it's a money thing. I think she just doesn't know what she wants when it comes to her wrestling. She made a big deal of covering up in TJPW but then did several coom books in other promotions. She acts super serious in some promotions but then does a McD's gimmick in Michinoku. She feels a bit lost in her career. >>20438263 Reika wiffed the shining wizard so covered it up with the punch. It's not a big deal. She was just trying to keep the flow of the match going. It would've looked weird if Raku had gone down after not getting hit by anything >>20438474 The classes serve a few purposes: revenue from the attendees paying to take the class, encouraging more women to take an interest in TJPW, and lastly (and not publicly acknowledged) trying to find new trainees
>>20440147 Seems like the players had a nice little tour of London and saw some actual sites instead of just stopping by the M&M's store or whatever. The British Museum is world class. I went last year. I was amazing, though the North America section was pretty thin, but that makes sense since the Brits never owned most of it and didn't really get a chance to plunder it. >>20440392 Next Korakuen on commentary iirc
>>20438754 I'm watching it now and that trios match was really good. Himawari and Raku have good chemistry. Also Kira has a nice lariat and her back drop is really cool now
>>20441408 Kira is really good at should be at midcard level by this point but Koda's obsession wit glacial movement and the fact the uncles don't care because she isn't moe holds her back.
>>20441506 Miyu sells almost as few portraits as her but is still the ace so I don't think that's a huge factor holding her back. I think they're starting to recognise that she's getting good, like they did with Haru and Uta, but you're right about the glacial booking. Maybe in the next few months she'll get a singles showcase with Mizunami but that's the most I'm hoping for.
>>20441561 She could get an IP challenge. Everyone from the class of '23 has gotten a title challenge at this point, so there's nothing preventing the class of '24 from challenging now. And of course Uta is now on her second title challenge, but she's getting that super push
Take known portrait sales and double it and add $15k base pay Mizuki and Arai are making $100k+ easily Low tier members like Chika and Hyper Misao are around $25k
Looking at CyberFight's job postings, the starting salary for low level staff is ¥3.5 million to ¥5 million (~$22k to $31k), not including overtime pay which is up to ¥1.1 million (~$8.7k) extra a year. They have a management/admin position open with a ¥5 million to ¥8 million (~$31k to $50k) starting salary. And at some point recently they had a presumably executive position open with a starting salary of ¥15 million to ¥25 million (~$95k to $159k)
I'm afraid that events over the last four and half months have debunked the notion that TJPW portrait sales numbers have any correlation to overness or drawing power.
>>20439427 She also got into much better shape once she left tjpw. And the culture is different. Tjpw did the one coombook and then never pushed them to do them ever again. Stardom and Marigold under Rossy, you know who's buttering your bread. So you do the coom book
>>20443057 I thought I heard "Tsukuba otsukareka" which google is telling me means "Tsukuba, are you tired?" I'm not sure that's right. But anyway based on context, whatever's she's saying seems to be like what a singer might say at a concert to hype up a crowd, and at the end she's asking the crowd to tell her to do her best >>20443060 Those are fake nails
Kira posted some gym videos of her lifting 90kg/200 lbs, but her thigh is still wrapped where she had that bruise last year/missed some shows due to injury. If it's the same injury, surprised it lingered that long.
>>20443464 She really does, and I'm glad she chose to grace TJPW with it instead of anywhere else. But also, doesn't kickboxing usually involve kicking?
>>20443510 I was favorable because she was pretty and also free agents don't normally choose TJPW. So if she was here, it's because she wants to be here.
>>20445353 They didn't even bring Namba over to LA originally, she paid her own way there to go on vacation. They're not bringing over referees or announcers.
>>20445380 Maybe it's because one company has more money budgeted for it than the other, but Stardom brought Barb over this year with the rest of the talent and Diachi last year. So I was thinking it would be natural to send her, or any ref over with the rest of the TJPW roster.
>>20445517 Possibly, but also TJPW ran several shows in Japan while half the roster was touring internationally. Fumirin doesn't even make every Tokyo show because she has other jobs in Osaka. It's probably tough to ask her to take two weeks off to bum around America for a job that they usually can get someone locally cheaper to do. Same with Shirai. Especially with Namba already in town.
And by using local refs we get to meet Ref Mike.
Also maybe less so this year, because I haven't heard as many complaints, but I feel like Stardom traditionally never brings over the top stars, uses a lot of partner talent to fill cards, etc. Maybe their refs have second jobs in the office.
>>20445573 He had an interview on that new tokyo joshi podcast and he's coming this month. I listened to it when I was bored and apparently he's booked for the 5/22 show
>>20445625 i know their reign was forgettable but ober eats were tag champs for over 6 months and won the max heart. both singles titles at the last korakuen were defended against first time challengers. uta is challenging for another title next month and kamiyu is challenging for the pop for the first time in her career
>>20445669 i listened to the alexis lee interview on there and apparently she has a skeleton gimmick because she got bullied in high school for being anorexicly thin. they called her a skeleton like the ohio schoolgirls called kamiyu sushi girl lol. menhera everywhere you go
>>20445573 Maybe he will be on some sort of deal where he is the first option to ref on a show where TJPW is booked and would work as a liason for the talent(s):that work on a show as well. He was working the table for the meet & greets in Las Vegas, so maybe they have some sort of deal worked out with him already.
