40k has been largely turned into a board game, a complex board game, but a board game nonetheless. The issue is that a massive chunk of the player base started in the last half decade, so they think 40k playing like a board game is how it’s supposed to be.

Hows the guy on the right look? I tried to use some highlights on the armor, but I don't think they really showed up too well
Also how long does it take you guys to paint a model? I feel like I'm spending too much time per guardsmen

I quite liked it. I always love seeing my orks get some proper representation. Seeing the mekboy trying to excite the boyz was really funny and cute, came off as a shy autist attempting to be confident around his friends, and they cheer him on because they like him. The only complaint I have is how the voice actress for the leader is absolutely horrible, its like shes phoning it in and chewing the scenery at the same time.

Can you actually explain why/how, in detail? Or are you merely repeating JewTuber opinions? I think you are merely repeating Tubeslop.

>Hows the guy on the right look?
Like he's got a huge fucking mold line on his gun and a big-ass seam on his helmet. If you mean his painting standard compared to the other two, he looks the same - largely flat with just a hint of shading. Fine for large numbers of mooks, could probably use a wash though.
>Also how long does it take you guys to paint a model?
Varies wildly with the model. Most Necron units look decent in about half an hour or less, most CSM variant models take 2 or 3 hours to look acceptable.

I finally broke down and ordered the Ravenwing bikers kit just for the bits. I'm afraid the Primaris Ravenwing release will be a repeat of the Blood Angels stuff, so now I'll at least be able to jazz them up.
Plus I slap those bits on a couple spare Intercessors, I got a free Apothecary and Ancient. So it pays for itself.

NTA, however you must now show off your fully painted army that has not one mold line or seam.

Convince me not to start a tau army. Seeing sally anons tau has given me a brain worm that wants to own some myself. I’m thinking infantry heavy with lots of the hammerheads, pirhanas, and a broadside squad or two. Probably gonna get the new twins too.

NTA, however a mould line on a model’s calf and partially obscured by a sword is leagues different than a gun that is practically jutting out from the model, and although I don’t know what that anon’s models might look like, I don’t think it would be wild to assume he doesn’t have a mouldline that egregious.

I normally use a gunship green (AK) and then I tried for a 1:1 mix of gunship green and intermediate green (AK), then just intermediate green. I think I just didn't use enough, but what would you recommend? I thought I need to go one shade higher

a lot of the kits are fucking ancient and have giant mold lines and seams. some are so big you'll almost be convinced they're an intentional detail of the model. it's also not a cheap army unless you hammerhead and riptidemaxx
really though i enjoyed painting my tau. you can go extremely low effort like mine or high effort like sallyman's and they can turn out great

as someone who built carnifexes, you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.
older GW models are disgustingly negligent with their quality assurance, you get parts where the molds were a millimeter out of alignment, so you end up doing shitloads of sanding work.

The worst kit for mold slippage is the falcon. The chassis gets away with it because the seams are all on the bottom, but the turret for the falcon is fucking awful, my last one had a bit slipped so bad I just cut it off the pulse laser.
The tiny wave serpent turret, which comes on the later designed upgrade sprue is still ok.

Not that anon, but I find that the game has stripped opportunities that allow your models to interact with the table and vice-versa. For example: wheeled and tracked vehicles used to get a bonus for going flat-out on a road which makes sense. It was trying to be more of a simulation whereas the game nowadays is very abstracted from that. Another good example is how you could really only shoot & kill models that you could see which just isn't the case nowadays.

The flesh is a progression of Monument Dark Jade mixed with black up through Jade, Bright Jade, and White Blue, and the lower half and wing membranes were washed with a violet oil was before highlighting. The wing membranes were just primed black, airbrushed from the bottom with purple, oil washed violet, and dry brushed Monument Dark Hot Pink and a mix of that and Bright Pale Yellow.

Hey frens, I’m planning to start my 3rd army and after playing BA and Deldar I’m trying to choose something a little more shooty. I’m also trying not to spend a lot (relatively speaking) this time. I originally had my heart set on T’au and got the codex, but after further investigation that’s going to have a hefty price tag. I was considering Thousand Sons instead as they’re a much cheaper option and I like the aesthetic.
One of my main reasons for T’au originally was because I wanted something with a competitive heft. That said, I don’t know much about TS in terms of how they fare on the table. Anyone with experience able to tell me if this is a good option to peruse? I know they took a pretty solid nerf, but how detrimental has that been?

nothing beats the old wildberry blast, it's a great "underworld" color scheme.
one small suggestion, I think the green would "glow" more with a yellow base coat.
it's how I do my nid eyes, a dab of yellow, then a dab of tesseract green.
either way it looks fantastic.

To go into autistic detail, I start out with my bases depending on what I am look for. The 'elevated' base is for a biovore that will be aiming up, and the smaller base is for a custom Tyranid Prime with Lash that I am building. The tree stump in the latter acts as the 'tactical rock'.
I place the 'big' terrain first. This includes but is not limited to cork, the tree stumps and any other rocks I want to add.
Without sounding like an ad, lots of my plants/stumps come from GreenStuffWorld, although you could try people like Etsy and other places. Tamiya 1:35 scale stuff is even decent, the logs you see are actually from a WW2 tank trap model set.
Unfortunately for one of the accusers, I then use AK interactive paste sloppa and heavily apply it, while creating patterns in it if I want to make any unique shapes or just to balance it a little. For example, you cannot see it well but the smaller base has a stream running though it, and I created this by applying a massive amount of paste, and then clearing a line where I wanted to put the water.
Once everything dried, I heavily apply Dryad Bark, then drybrush in light browns/greens depending on how I feel. It doesn't need to be consistent as a jungle floor never is. Lighter is generally better.
The trick is that if something looks 'off' or ugly, that's exactly where you put a big fat plant to distract from all of your errors.
I like doing detailed bases because my model painting skills can be average and as the saying goes - faces and bases make aces.

All the xenos choices are awful compared to imperium/chaos. Tau are particularly bad, you get a stealth suit, fireblade, or kroot, and basically just weapon swaps. You can't really do much else with them other than make a meme 3-railgun broadside.
>>
>>97631604
Modelwise they’re pretty damn good. Posability, really good 3rd party bits support, and the best 3d printing and model support if you want to go that route. They have a lot of flat surfaces if you’re into that stuff.
Gameplaywise is a toss up. They’re probably the most terrain-dependent army in the game, and there isn’t a single tau player on the rules writing team so their table favor and power is a coin flip.

Appreciate the write up anon, my bases are for nids too but they are going to more swamp like. I like how yours are loaded with details, thats what I want to replicate as mine atm are just Strickland mud, wash, drybrush, a few shitty vallejo / ak plants and a similar technique that you for water features (i was just mixing the realistic water effects stuff with contrast / flouro inks to make it stand out and then pour onto the base). I might check out gsw and tamiya, the only plant I have from gsw is pic related abd I have no idea what to do with it as its very meme worthy

Literally everyone I know who knows a thing or two about 40k thinks that sisters are one of the coolest factions.
If they want to make them more popular in tabletop I think they should first and foremost flesh out the various orders more and add more minor orders, so that people can identify with and kitbash their favourite one on the level of SM chapters.
Also ironically probably making the core units not that detailed and time consuming to paint properly could help

Lots of their infantry and mounted units don't have any characters that can lead them
The characters they do have are almost all locked to one specific unit type
All their transports have firing decks but they don't have a heavy weapons squad to put in them
They don't have a lone op character or an assassin outside of Harlequins allies
They don't have any indirect weapons or any super long range weapons at all
They don't have any anti-monster weapons anymore since poison all got changed to anti-infantry
They don't have a main tank with a big gun of any kind
They don't have a chaff horde unit anymore since nothing can be run with more than ten models now and their alien arena beasts are all gone
They don't have a terminator/wraithguard equivalent since their Grotesques got squatted
They don't have a command squad anymore with the court gone
They don't have any unit that can use more than one flamer or any other kind of overwatch threat
They don't have any high volume of fire weapons or units outside of melee since carbines can only be carried in small numbers
They don't have any units with abilities that work in or on transports anymore despite a heavy focus on them

"Incapable of procreating" is not the same as chemically castrated. Considering Marine implants work in conjunction with the body's natural evolution in puberty and boost the body's own hormone production, fucking with the body's own hormone production doesn't seem smart.

Marines brains are forever locked in pre-puberty state, which is why they are so easy to brainwash.

I have a question if my /your dudes/ sister of battle order is lore breaking.
Their order symbol is a flower unique to their world that has incredible healing properties (if it doesn't kill you) when consumed. Once a Novitiate is ready to become a full SoB she is beaten close to death by her peers and fed the flower which either drives her to insanity, kills her, or heals her, the process can take hours or a day. Ones who take to it will are granted visions in the form of fever dreams. It's random but sometimes it's some message from a saint, loved one, big E, or a premonition of a future event, or their own death. They are not allowed to reveal what they saw to others (thinking of letting Dogmatas being allowed to know).
The flower consumption is a one and done thing as an initiation. It's supposed mimic what their founder went through when she was close to death and was saved by the planets human natives who cultivated this flower. They are very protective about it and keep it secret.
I know very little about Sister Orders so how lore breaking is this?

The Lewis gun is closer to modern day and as a desperate last-ditch move. It's not the tip top of the line military. It's the standard UNSC bullet and the designation is so precise that it's not even the most up-to-date 7.62. It's like if a Space Marine wandered into battle with a musket. This is given to elite spec ops.
By the way, one of the stupidest complaints I've heard about the Halo show is about how there's AKs in space. Yeah, one of the most common IRL gun patterns that can be made from a shovel, that smugglers everywhere use, that would be easy to smuggle weapons or the design schematics to make it, in a world where insurrection groups are everywhere. Those complaints are dumber than the show.

Why don't they start using a musket or flintlock in that case? Why have arms development stagnate so hard that it's inferior to modern day? Ammo development happens. Today's 5.56 isn't Vietnam era. People fiddle with the powder. And Halo has 500 years do worse than modern 7.62.

To make a realistic Renegade Astartes Pirate Chapter, my Devastators all going to be 40k Leadbelchers with cannons. Fuck Lascannons.
>>
>>97632952
Because accelerating a mass of lead (and potentially tungsten or other such heavy materials) faster than sound is more than enough to kill a person
Armor has only improved incrementally so weapons have not improved beyond mico-optimizations. The human body hasn't improved at all. We'd need a nigh-miraculous breakthrough in weapons technology to abandon good old chemically propelled masses of lead.
>>
>>97632956
I am weirdly tempted to make a pirate-themed space marine army now. Power cutlasses, flintlock-themed bolt pistols, etc.
>>
>>
>>
>>97632920
is the complaint here that the unsc is still using nato ammo five hundred years in the future, and not some 'future' bullets
or that the unsc is still using bullets and every soldier isn't outfitted like starship troopers (the book)
>>
>>97632964
That doesn't answer it. Accelerating a mass of lead is what arms from pike and shot era do. Why be inferior to modern day or even mid 2000s in ability? Bungie just isn't that good at military technology. The UNSC didn't have any kind of IADS until Halo Wars, and that was a single vehicle. They didn't have full access to important infantry weapons--like LMGs and Mortars--until 343i took over because they cancelled the GPMG in Halo 2. NPC dialogue and beta footage are the only reasons we know underslung grenade launchers exist in the setting when Vietnam had them.
Point being, small arms development in Halo isn't just modern day. It's measurably worse than what would've existed in CE's release. It's a pew pew shoot aliens game that makes less sense the more it starts being serious.
>>
>>97632973
No, the complaint is that the more Halo tries being "grounded", the more massive flaws in anywhere from vehicle design to infantry doctrine and weaponry show up. It's because Bungie's initial goal was just a pew pew shoot aliens game. It's a step away from if Futurama tried being grounded. It wouldn't work.

sure, i suppose, they could shore up a few things like the scorpion, but an unmanned turret isn't a bad idea

I used 1mm on Wraithguard, they're plenty strong so I would use the smaller ones. I ran into an issue where the magnetism was strong enough to pull through to the other side of the model to the opposite shoulder, so I had to be careful when gluing them that they hadn't flipped. Just keep real careful track of what side you need to face outward, I'd recommend following the same order for every model.

Yeah, 3x1mm. Just make sure they go on flat, especially if the arms are 2-peice holding a gun or something. I would opt for 1mm, they're more than strong enough for plastic infantry and it's easier to drill & fit smaller ones. I just used a pen drill and gave the super glue plenty of time to set, because I found out pretty quick the magnets are strong enough to pull themselves right out unless it's fully cured.

Why, he's never said or done anything that implies that he actually has more then a basic knowledge of the lore.
>Imagine if you were a engineer and asked your director of engineering if you could use a different type of fuse in a fuse box. Why would you waste his time wiht that, it just makes you look like an idiot who doesn't know their job (TRUE).
Yes and imagine that said director of engineering isn't actually qualified to do engineering work, let alone "direct" said work and the fuse he wanted to use was either wrong or was not the best for that particular job and then some "idiot" who actually knows how to do their job suggests they use a different, better fuse.

he's read the source material and expects others to have read it as well, that ensures he's already know more than anyone who refuses to do so thinking they know better
Also the analogy is falling apart in your hands, literally all you have here is cavill expecting the guys working on the set to know the basics of the lore, he's not micromanaging direction and writing.

Yeah if you wanted to purchase and play Eldar army.
But that's not what we are talking about. If in some alternative universe, Amazon show destined to be about Eldar, Thorpe's Eldar trilogy, along with Dark Eldar trilogy, FFG and Wrath and Glory books are mandatory (and still writters would had to make plenty of stuff on their own or borrow from LoTR, WoW or WHFB/AoS).

Actually no.
Path trilogy contains all lore codex have, about path system, about what craftworlds are (and much more detailed btw), about spiritstones, about Slaanesh and Eldar Fall.
>then they're worthless
For who? Henry Cavill? Yeah surely Henry is expert on that field.

3. Hes saying "if you havent even read the codex your opinion is worthless" which is true. You are just a retard autist who is biologically incapable of saying ah I see I misunderstood I will back pedal on that. Obviously we expect the shows writers to consume a decent enough amount of the lore to write the show, and Cavill is quite literally expressing the same opinion you share.

I'm not sure how many points that would translate to, but it looks fine (apart from the WK, but it's no so bad it's unplayable). Farseers are good, eldrad is good, fire prisms are good, warlocks are good (both as unit leaders and as warlock conclaves). I would maybe consider having at least one 4-man conclave with a farseer inside a falcon, it's a surprisingly nasty package. Guardian defenders are fine units, and storm guardians have sticky objective which is always a very good rule to have. The eldar codex is deep as fuck and there's almost nothing truly bad in it.

They're excellent anti-horde shooting, and enable Asurmen, who is a very good character. If you think they're bad I think you're wrong. Yes, you won't want 30 of them, but a 10-man on horde-clearing duty if you expect to have to clean up tons of gaunts or guardsmen, or a 5-man together with Asurmen bouncing into and out of a falcon won't do you wrong.

He is supposed to write about good story. Codexes are optional here.
>Autism is what makes 40k a unique universe
Quite false. We both know that marines is what makes 40k unique and generates most of the GW's income.
>From what?
From Fantasy
>Seethe
Projecting much?
>They cpuld live without yaoi books
Questionable at best. But again, I have no desire to discuss your twisted worldview eldarfag.
>Still more than in any blslop
False.
>Im not for spoon-feeding you here
Burden of proof lies on you.
>Does that generic shit helps POtE to become a good novel?
Actually yeah. At least partially, because it's the only redeeming quality of series. Because Eldar lore is such a poor man's High Elves that it's not even funny.
>Main audience in wargame universe want a shuriken porn with six trillion killed monkeighs by single cast or by japanese-weared pale elf warrior, and codexes could help this much more than retarded fanfiction
Now now, let's be honest here, main audience of the wargame wants: >>97633559
Also, wargame's main audience doesn't make money for live action shows or cartoons.

Yeah, I can see space elves making those nodules and bumps on armor gems if they feel like it.
I had an idea to paint them in color of their armor on normal craftworldes, but as gems on corsairs, since those guys like to flex their drip

No, he's literally even said that he hasn't played "this edition" and it's been out for 3 years.
He just posts random shots of his custodes every now and then.
I'm pretty convinced it's PR.
Now, an actor who ACTUALLY plays Warhammer is Dylan Sprouse. Dude posts his army and got to voice Alith Anar in Total War.

>He is supposed to write about good story. Codexes are optional here.

>marines is what makes 40k unique and generates most of the GW's income
Marine autism could be harshly
>From Fantasy
40k goes too far from simple whfb cosplay
>Questionable at best
Its non-negotiable, no plastic - no stories
>False
There is so much Black Library (tm) stories how path of spiritseer and infinity circuit was established, right? Oh no, it doesnt
>Burden of proof lies on you
I accept your concession,lorelet
>because it's the only redeeming quality of series
Ok dork
>Because Eldar lore is such a poor man's High Elves

>let's be honest here, main audience of the wargame wants: >>97633559

I used her in basically every list I could squeeze her into. She was just good to get on the home obj, shoot at someone, then scoot back onto the obj. Great distraction piece against my buddy and his characters.
