I just want a Space Pirate faction that's humans who more or less just sell xenos to the Dark Eldar, but are kinda that perfect mix of expendable and competant that the Dark Eldar don't just harvest them for torture.

Not Chaos, but in that odd sphere of survivors of humanity collapsing every few 10,000 years.I just want space pirates who actually do mercantilism and aren't some gay ass rogue trader shit.

How did you all actually start getting into the models?
My buddy got me the space marine videogame a few months ago and ive been having a lot of fun. I guess games workshops plan worked because im looking into the miniatures but fuck its a lot.
I know painting and making them your own is a huge part of the hobby but each little dude is like $10-15 a pop, the bigger models are all $80+! $15 for a 2" plastic figure i have to assemble and paint myself seems excessive.
They even charge a subscription for the official app so i have to use 3rd party stuff. Im sure the 3rd party stuff is great but from the outside they are bleeding every cent from their fans they can think of.

I dont mean to just complain since im clearly not a part of the hobby yet, just seems like they dont have a way to ease new players in really. Even the starter bundle is nearly $250 after tax, and probably hours of painting (badly id assume) and assembling before id be able to play.

I'm looking for something from the newer 2019 line of sisters. Older models look very small when standing next to a lot of newer sculpts.
>>
>>97638574
But it'd be cute.
>>
>>97638559
The prices are a retarded scam. This has been so for 20 odd years. The game sucks too. Some people just accept the awful prices due to stockholm syndrome and being that much into painting and attachment to the universe. If you aren't otherwise already into painting model kits in general there's absolutely zero value in it.
>>
>>97638559
Just grab a combat patrol. That lets you play with one box.
>>
>>97638559
This is a niche hobby, GW don't expect everyone and their dog to participate, so they're not really trying to get new people into it, just gouge the people already in it.
>>
>>97638285
Which head is that?
>>
>>97638559
You honestly cannot be involved in 40k casually, like you also cannot do something like rock climbing casually, it's really fucking involved. The buying, building, painting, learning the rules, learning your army, getting good with your army, learning a whole new set of rules every 3 years. GW gives you nothing and expects you to give all your money and time to them in return.
>>
>>97638559
I just started later last year, what got me to make the leap was seeing how much well painted (and even not well painted) models can sell for, i figured after some practice painting i could at least make the money back if i ever got sick of it. But i am in love with it now and have already spent way more than i should have starting with a more expensive army (sisters)..
>>
>>97638559
>I dont mean to just complain since im clearly not a part of the hobby yet

Complaining about GW prices is the first major step into being a part of the hobby anon.
Welcome aboard!
>>
>>97638583
I always just assumed the talk i heard about overpricing everything was a meme or joke that went on too long. I didnt realize some people actually spend $1000s of dollars on their armies.

>>97638586
>>97638588
Maybe i will just enjoy the videogames and lore and not engage with the tabletop for now. I like the idea of it but it just feels like theres a massive investment with time, energy, and money before i can find out if i even enjoy it.

>>97638603
I appreciate the tough news. I dont mean to sound like a broke bitch but ive got enough expensive hobbies draining my time and wallet. If i got into it i would be uber casual and that doesnt seem like an option.

>>97638608
Nice paint job anon. In my ignorance i didnt even think of people buying already painted figures.
>>
I was looking at the webstore and I had a panic attack
I saw this set of minis and it shook me to my core, I had to double take, triple take, to make sure
Where are the black models? Where are the women? How can the leader be male? Don't they know female leaders are historically better and less prone to violence?
How could someone get away with this today?
I don't think I, as a white man, can conscientiously buy from this company anymore

>>
>>97638618

we were just joking about how it looks like a five year old painted it, but it sold for like $300
just consider it an investment anon, it isn't cheap plastic it's painted gold sitting on your shelf. really Games Workshop is doing you a favor selling it so cheap
>>

>Bloodbowl II->Wow this is cool->Wow they're bringing the side game back???->Wow that's expensive but the starter set + rules is okay! I'll take i!->Haha third party go brr
(was given multiple models with pieces that fell off during the printing process, sigh)
>Killteam->I'd like one set please!
>Okay now I have a wishlist of models!
>check webstore
>imperial guard has now been primarisfied
>Haha third party go brr, I don't like 40K anymore!
>warhammer fantasy comes back
>notice it's being age of sigmar'd but not entirely yet
>ebay has the models GW has replaced with strong female folx
>guess I'm a /grog/ now
I started by buying a few... I think it was reaper minis? Maybe it was someone else? And seeing if I liked painting. I did.
I still struggle with "Table distance" paintjobs and focus too much on detailed paintjobs that are a little unimpressive up close (to me) because much like paint on canvas, you create a texture unless you're exclusively using washes/contrasts, and the physicality of paint + brush means "lines" often gouge a channel that is worse if you water it down or use a layer paint... there's probably a word for it, and I struggle not to be annoyed by these little details at least at the time of painting.

Are you excited for when Dark Heresy drops?
It has a black female apothecary.
For at least 5 years all attempts to google either edition of the RPG will redirect to the video game.
.lexicanum and .fandom will flood all associated materials with that of the video game and screenshots from it. There will be many new pages and updates including for random planets mentioned once in a codex everyone forgot about because the video game used their name, forever changing the canon fluff.
There will be a 5 minutes of fame addiction to the OST like for that Mechanicus game everyone's forgotten about which your friends will want to put on during IRL or tabletop sim battles or RPG sessions.
There will be a splurge of poorly drawn "I want to fuck the Kroot" fanart on xitter that will be reposted here.
More secondaries will migrate here and not post models. Half of them won't even have played the game and will fight with those who did. Worse still, they might actually get into the hobby.

I don't really see what the issue is.
I mean if I had to take a guess, I'd say the Diplomat is probably about 24-25 Tau'cyr old. The Translator looks pretty young and is probably about 17-18 Tau'cyr old. And the Shas'Ui looks like she's the oldest so she's probably about 25-27 Tau'cyr old.

Or to in Solar Years
Diplomat, 19-20 years old.
Translator, 13-14 years old.
Shas'Ui, 20-22 years old.

So the translator probably still has some growing to do.
>>
>>97639056

So I'm trying to find information on how Space Marine Chapters are created.

Like, I assume they don't just make 1000 fresh space marines, hypno-condition them, randomly choose officers, and then cut them loose.

Presumably someone trains them, passes on culture, so on and so forth.

Also not sure who is "in charge" of the chapter until they get sent off to do their work. Or where they are stationed until then.

Generaly some senior leadership of another chapter is given the go-ahead by the administratum to go ahead and found a new chapter and then is given a donation of Gene seed from their parent chapter from the tithes collected and held on to by the administratum for just such an occasion. But they can't just found a chapter willy-nilly without approval from the administratum because the Imperium watches and tracks the movement of Gene seed very closely to prevent Legion building and the total number of space Marine chapters from ever becoming unmanageable. Very occasionally do they try to found a whole bunch of chapters at once and start from scratch, such as the infamous 21st "cursed" founding. It's usually only in response to the identification of a new threat that they feel justifies the need for a bunch of new Space Marine chapters to be trained up quickly.

To build off of the anon that said Dark Eldar are hard to write, I think he's right but its easy to fall into the trap of
>Deldar minds are so alien and different that you can't even write them in the 1st person but only write from the perspective of humans experiencing interacting with them
Which would take away a lot from them. I do think dark eldar haemonculus have so far never been written properly since they should have the alien formulas, and the inner working of the most advanced technology in the setting through their minds. If you ever talk to engineers they tend to refer to the shit they know and maths shit pretty often so they should be thinking about this stuff constantly.

And again I wanted to express how blown my mind was when I realised that Commorragh is 40k Carcosa. I don't know if the OG 40k guys were that based or if its just a coincidence but the only thing the weakens it being a 1 to 1 copy is that Vect isn't a literal embodiment force of nature and physics and a great old god that casually induces madness

I don't mind this design for space marines. I think with how popular tacticool slop is it makes sense to have a tacticool type of power armour. The skull mask like a bandanna is also great for being an extreme version of tacticool. The heads with the big ass night vision goggles are great and all their kit needs is a proper full face skull masks

Not from any picture they show in their webstore.
At best you can check for double mould lines once you have them in hand.

I got partial refunds on one purchase after sending them photos that it had mould lines on a part of the miniature that had a trinket cut off from it because some retard recasted it with the missing piece.

They most definitely do not recast the models themselves, they just buy for cheap used models from others and then resell those with little fanfare, but they obviously don't care about checking whether they're buying and then selling recasts, and most definitely know they're selling a lot of recasts.

If it's plastic sprues you should be able to tell at a glance it's plastic instead of recast resin, but for painted stuff or models that are resin to begin with that will be harder.

The good news from the problem above is that if you find a good deal and want to outjew them you can purchase the model, edit a photo of it to give it mould lines where it shouldn't have them and then lie through your teeth at the customer service. They have ebay accounts you can purchase stuff at instead of using their page, so you might get a layer of buyer protection there.

> Internally testing is being done for a new format of play, GW really wants more "explosive, edge of your seat plays", stuff like heroic duels, critically passing morale, summoning greater daemons.
> The hold up with this form of play is the inclusion of a GM called a Warmaster to keep the game balanced and allow for all the swingy nonsense. Internally, the team doesn't think players would ever elect a Warmaster and instead just play with two players
>obligatory henry cavil has had zero involvement with the writing team, I know that we all know those pictures are bullshit but for those who live under a rock.

Also no point to doing these anymore because the game just isn't about that anymore. >>
>>97639701
>>the team really wants to do another global campaign with stakes but they fear the meta may swing the event before it starts
They should completely ditch the concept of connecting the results to actual games and instead connect it to hobby engagement
>release new models for the campaign
>in the box you get a code to throw your vote on the direction the narrative goes
>if you buy the model at a physical gw store you can sign on a secondary objective: if you bring the model painted to the store, the store takes a picture and sends it to gw, this counts as another vote in the campaign
the people at gw most definitely have estimations on how much each faction sells, so they can adjust the votes per capita to track relative increases in engagement instead of absolute engagement

if they want actual games to decide the fate of the campaign they can limit those games to narrative events held by official stores, then the blackshirt there can step in to avoid waacfaggotry or attempts at rigging things, while keeping something fun for the community

>> The hold up with this form of play is the inclusion of a GM called a Warmaster to keep the game balanced and allow for all the swingy nonsense. Internally, the team doesn't think players would ever elect a Warmaster and instead just play with two players

Space Wolves are made with ragtag armor cobbled together from scraps of old armor marks because they are pulling the second grand galactic civil war like people theorized previously, but not in the ways I thought. It's not the Lion and the firstborn standing against the usurping Gulliman and his Primaris but Russ and the Khan opposing the other two and their captive Imperium.

I wonder what the new Army Rule is going to be for Aeldari + Drukhari + Harlequins + Corsairs + Ynnari + Exodites?

because they have to maximise the release date value of products, so in order to make you buy more noise marines they make all other shooting in the army less viable or accessible
and then once the release window is done (products sell 80% of their lifetime copies in their release window) they turn on them to favour a different new product
and then, once they've got nothing new to push for that army, they rotate what's viable so the people have to change their army by buying different products they might have not bought before, like the older products

and the paypigs will thank them for it

they would rather normalise easy to build kits and monochrome spray painted armies than shift their entire production and distribution to models they assemble and box before shipping them, or models that get printed already painted, or an unsustainable mass production of hand painted models
spraying the sprues during the production is not viable, they can't get precise enough to make the final result look like a painted model

Stop falling for the same-old routines. If getting his posts deleted the last few days didn't send a message to him there's no changing him. He's not worth the effort.

there’s definitely some shitflinging and arguments can quickly escalate over dumb shit, but outside the mutant and his orbiters I don’t think its bad enough to say that the only thing to talk about is a really loud sperg. models posted, lore discussions, model advice, and other shit still happens pretty frequently.

the decalhaters definitely think they are here to police the thread and have been shown to go after reaction images (anime, beautiful women), lore discussions, inappropriate jokes (nothing worse than what your uncle might share at a get together), etc. Some of them seem to be operating under the misguided notion that 40k is ONLY for model posting and nothing else.

Pretty much. Painting models, and reading books are well known to be something almost impossible to do by yourself, so unless you have someone to hold your hand while painting or someone to turn pages over for you its completely hopeless.

>>97640642
I see painting as a means to an end, so they look cool when playing a game, but I have no one to play games with, so no point buying and painting models
>>
>>97640640
Even if you do play building and painting models takes the vast majority of time you actually engage with the hobby anyway. So as long as you enjoy that it's still worth it, I think.

Erebus and/or Kor penned it.
Wow. Not that hard.
Also despite how people want to tout the Divinitatus book, it is not as foundational/central to founding of the Imperial Cult. Since by the time the Heresy starts/happens, there were already shit loads of small cults and fringe groups who already believed the Emperor was a God and prayed to him, even during the Great Crusade and the subsequent Heresy. Some did so even openly.

Lorgar is not at all that important. Erebus and Kor are.
