it truly depends on your budget.
do you have like, $50? want a little taste of Lego?
the recent Space Exploration sets are not that expensive and you can probably still find a bunch of them at retail
or can you spend any amount?
just go with the $400 Enterprise and get a cool little Picard figure

>Stop trying to be Nintendo and just be Lego
Lego fears that somebody will beat them to it (whatever "it" is, lol) unaware that their success is ironically mainly due to the LACK of electronics. similar to how the NFL (and other sports?) alone maintain the concept of "watching television instead of streaming app" Lego is alone holding up the concept of children "playing with toys instead of screens"
every time Lego tries to add the screens to their toys, it diminishes them
>>

All the dumb gimmicks are just bloating the price. They're best when they're just making good sets with thoughtful builds, and one of their strengths is in the IPs they can get.
The off-brands are running circles around them with lights and electronics, and they're giving similar piece count and set sizes that Lego is and at 1/3 to 1/2 the price.
Lego has gotten so fat that they want people to think they're for everyone, but they're acting like they're a luxury brand and you're paying a premium just because the box says "Lego" on it.

>All the dumb gimmicks are just bloating the price. They're best when they're just making good sets with thoughtful builds,
I still think that it was only PRICE that killed Vidiyo. the sets were creative, thoughtful, colorful, artistically cool... everything a Lego set should be.
but Lego wanted the customer to absorb the cost to develop the app program, so the sets cost twice as much. I think the [smart bricks] will be just the same. customers will look at the boxes $$! on the shelf and "nope" right back to the less-expensive options right next to them. almost an instant failure, just like Vidiyo
it was smart for Lego to start with Star Wars, by default those will sell at least somewhat, but as soon as the City sets give it a go... nope!

6079 Dark Forest Fortress. Being from a highly niche, short lived subtheme, having a raised base plate, and having two minifigures only found in one other pricey set from the same theme has made prices for it become crazy in recent years. I really like dark forest as a forestmen lover in general but $400+ for a set below 450 pieces is too much for me.

So many decisions around this are so confusing to me. So it can't play sound files and synthesizes the sounds from the smart tags. Why choose an IP with such irreplaceable iconic sounds as the intro to this tech.
So it's intended for a 6-12 demo. Why choose a franchise that has almost exclusively an adult baby fanbase that kids don't give a shit about
If these don't take off it's going to seem like a rejection of the technology, but I truly think they just chose the wrong IP to leverage

Lego NEEDS the guaranteed man-baby sloppity-slop-slurping bucks of the Star Wars fan base to make this SEEM like a success
--those people won't care that the sound effects are not accurate (at least enough to avoid purchase due to it)
--the tech might be intended for children, but Lego cares about SALES more than "muh children"
--Lego can use illusion of "interest" (because of the guaranteed Star Wars fans) to advertise the viability of the tech to retailers, and thus sell them more of the other sets later
I wonder if Vidiyo had a Star Wars character and set, would that have mattered?

>>
>>11714066
>Lego NEEDS the guaranteed man-baby sloppity-slop-slurping bucks of the Star Wars fan base to make this SEEM like a success
That's my point though, those people won't buy this. If it made the sounds maybe they would have, but I see very little value in this for an adult collector except for the lost souls actually collecting every single piece of shit star wars toy released
>>
>>11714083
>except for the lost souls actually collecting every single piece of shit star wars toy released
you solved your puzzle again.
there ARE enough of those people.
you might not think it be that way, but it do.
adult collectors just put the box in a closet, or even open it, build it, and display it, but "play with it"? nope. Lego knows this, which is why they didn't prioritize the authentic SW sounds (and whatever legal nonsense that might have involved, like if the City set with a SW Sounds brick would need to pay SW? things like that)

there are "reasons" they use the red pins instead of the black pins, it's ironically one of the things that makes Lego superior to the competitors: Engineering experience, over Art
the red pins use dye that makes them less fragile, and able to withstand fatigue. there are very small chemical differences in the dyes used to color the plastic. that's why the brown bricks are super-brittle. and why we don't get Mixel ball joints in colors other than grey.
it's not like a Lego designer wants to ruin it on purpose. they know those black pins would look good, but in X situation for X function, you need the red ones instead
though sometimes the odd color is used simply to make the instructions easier to follow, which they should NOT do, but that's another reason the colors might not match

>Someone tell me what these actually do.
that. exactly. is why these will fail.
it happened to Vidiyo, and Hidden Side.
the box is not able to explain it enough, and the price will be too high for people to "get one to fiddle with and find out for themselves"
kids didn't even want to buy one minifig for $9 rather than $5, to try a Vidiyo. who's going to want to buy a $70 toilet set to hear a poop noise?
Lego will need heavy investment in CLEAR advertising as to what this tech can do. because. right now, nobody knows
>>
>>11714786
The only technology that really works with lego are battery-powered motors, anything that requires you to download an app is just annoying, not a fun gimmick. The fun is in the building and imagination, not the phone doing stuff.
>>
>>11714790
>anything that requires you to download an app is just annoying, not a fun gimmick
I think that's what Lego "learned" with the failures of Vidiyo and Hidden Side, and why all the [smart brick] functions are in the brick itself. are blinky lights and noises worth so much? that's the new thing they will find out
>>
>>
>>11714780
>that's why the brown bricks are super-brittle. and why we don't get Mixel ball joints in colors other than grey.

>>
>>
>>
>>11714780
Sounds legit except they use those very same red pins in black in the same build.
Also "brittle brown" doesn't exist in the 1999-2007+ era.
It is 100% them trying to babyfy the building process but then they shouldn't label it as an 18+ set.

I also heard somewhere that they mix in nonsense colors in the middle of the set, not only to make the instructions clear-er but also if you want to destroy it and make a new set, hey... you get some extra colors, why not?
but yeah it's likely the color choice is what they had the most of, and are trying to get rid of

I generally agree, but a bluetooth and phone app upgrade for the mindstorms ev3 program brick would be nice
partially because I'm too lazy to plug it into my computer to program it
and partially because if they remade it today and used an app instead of it having it's own screen and buttons, I'm sure that they could shrink it and the sensor bricks down enough to fit into smaller builds too
the technic connections on them are fine, but alternate sensors/motors with brick connections to fit them into brick builds easier would also be a nice thing to have
it's a shame that lego is focusing on gimmicks instead of using or improving bricks that already exist and can do so much more than those gimmicks are capable of
imagine a light output and sound output brick that connects to the program brick, you can adjust lights and record sounds yourself to play on the them through the program brick
it would require an upgraded program brick and computer program to code it in
but even if they didn't do anything else, that alone would still do more than the new AI bricks can just by letting you make it yourself instead of relying on preprogrammed actions based on what tile it's looking at

It basically was a five year run of sets from the mid-90s designed to get girls to buy Lego. It had a ton of newly made female mini figures that went on to become parts of other sets, three exclusive brick colors (neon pink, dark pink, lime green) that were never used in any sets except the Paradiso sets, and featured a unique beachfront resort theme to it.
It was largely forgotten until the late 2010s when Vaporwave aesthetics became big people discovered that there was a forgotten Lego theme that was entirely Vaporwave themed.

What do you think the worst theme that Lego ever produced was?
I'd probably say it was the dinosaur's theme. They were not fun to build, were colored very bleakly, and overall just looked like garbage.

You know, it's funny. I was thinking the same exact thing when I posted the image. I didn't mention the time cruisers or time twisters because they were pretty disliked and I didn't want to start any drama, Even though it's personally my favorite theme of all time.
>>
>>11715341
The sets were ugly, but that's what made them enduring. I was a huge fan of BttF as a kid, like two decades before we would ever get that first DeLorean, so I had two minifigures I used as Doc and Marty, and they would go on adventures with the Time Cruisers crew.

The sets were so weird. They were just a hodgepodge of parts from different themes, but I thought that was the cool part about it. Like they added new bits to their machines and vehicles from every time period they visited.

I've not heard anything about microcontrollers being affected by the rampocalypse, and it's probably more likely that it'll fail because they just don't work that well. I seem to remember seeing that the people running the demos had to keep grabbing spare smart bricks cause the one they were using had died.

Honestly, it just sounds like they have a surplus of certain colors, so the design team is forced to use those colors in large builds to eat away at the surplus, hence why the interior/frame of larger kits has such bizarre colorways going on.

I genuinely have no idea what those other posts have to do with mine. I just wanted to know what the other user was building with his Pick-a-Brick order.
But he also wanted to be talked out of that order, so I suggested he try one of our great new kits instead.

>What is this image supposed to demonstrate?
close enough?
it's the Skyward Sword shield, not the Ocarina of Time shield
so... Lego goofed by not double-checking
or Lego is not going to make a new shield for each game (should they? for the $$ they ask for... probably...) and that one works for Twilight Princess mostly, too.
it's not the first time Lego goofed by missing a needed detail in a MHD (multi-hundred-dollar) set, for example Beverly Crusher is the only blue Star Trek uniform, but they did not give her woman boob-lines. (nobody is buying a $400 set to MOC 1 blue torso with, thus requiring gender-neutral no boob lines, and Lego will never re-use that torso in a smaller set. it was a complete waste NOT to make the character accurate, so sadly, that $400 set is frustrating-ly not perfect.)

Looks like it’s also the design from BotW/TotK. I guess I’m torn. I don’t know if it’s reasonable to expect a brand new print to slightly adjust a design that’s practically indistinguishable from another variation on the same design (especially when 90+% of fans won’t even notice). At the same time, this is definitely going to bug me now that I’m aware of it it, and I feel like it’s perfectly reasonable to have high expectations for these expensive “adults only” display kits.

So, that upcoming Ford Model T apparently has a massive design flaw in it where headlight bricks are put in such a way that the stud on the side is pushing against the back of the piece in front of them.
