It's decades off from being the first. Zombies were pretty well established by that point, even non-Voodoo ones. NotLD was following the 50s scifi zombie trend

This was great. The acting is pretty bad, the kill scenes are bad, there's no nudity, and it's kind of boring because a lot of it is just the girls sitting around being bored. But there's something comfy about it. I could only find the Rifftrax version which was at times annoying because of them talking over the dialogue and at times funny.
>>
>>218175866

>>
Just finished the Darkest Hour.
Very tight movie, no drags or slow down.
>>
Watching Boy of Your Dreams
>>
>>218175924
surprised to hear that considering its low ratings. I'll add it to my list
>>
>>218176151
It is tight. Great pacing. Actually a very solid good movie. Doesn’t look or feel cheap. Probably one of those movies where it isn’t good on release but a decade later, after a decade of garbage came out, you realize how good Darkest Hour is, not that it was ever bad.
>>
>>218174982
It evolved gradually, but he didn't single-handedly invent it. He was continuing what other movies had done, only NotLD was more gruesome visually, owing to the time it came out
>>
>>218176202
They don't make 'em like they used to
>>
>>218176151
Why do you care so much about ratings?
>>
>>218176288
I don't. They're just one way to gauge a film before deciding to watch it or not.
>>
>>218176282
You can tell the movie isnt some slop. Joel Kinnamen and Emile Hirsh were in it. Joel is still in movies now.
>>
>>218176314
No point bothering to bring up ratings for horror movies. Better to judge a movie by poster than ratings.
>>
>>218176346
I don't think I'm familiar with either of them
>>218176365
Like I said, it's just one way to gauge a film. Certainly it's not the best way.
>>
>>218176399
Emile was in Alpha Dog.
Joel still has movies out. His thriller with that fat black guy with a fucked up eye was good.

Just watched Killing of a Sacred Deer

I dont get it
So this whole family got mindfucked and enslaved by a retarded autistic teenager? Is that what happened?
Nothing in this movie makes any sense. Every single character is fucking weird as fuck. They all talk and act so fucking weird. Its like a fucking autistic weirdo contest and theyre all going for gold.

Did I miss something? Someone explain this to me please.
>>
>>218177830
I really dont understand why anyone in this movie acted the way they did

None of it makes any sense at all
>>
>>218177830
Best I can tell you is it's an adaptation of a Euripedes play
>>
>>218177830
>Yorgos
not even once
>>
>>218177929
Well I read the wiki entry on that play and I can see how the plot is clearly inspired by it but I still dont understand why Martin was able to do anything he did. "Just because" I guess.

Extremely overrated movie.
I give it a 3/10.
Waste of time. Not scary. Not creepy. Just kinda dumb and senseless.
>>
Just finished. Bottom of the barrel garbage from China. No ghosts, no horror, just yawns. Some girl got raped because another girl made a prank call that distracted her boyfriend so she stages a kidnapping or something. I could barely understand what was happening and nothing interesting happened onscreen. Worst thing I've watched this year so far.

Just finished. Kino. I thought the old alcoholic carnie running the Satan's Den had some great lines. Also picrel really reminded me of being a kid, and how much I loved haunted rides at carnivals even though the interiors weren't half as cool as the outside.

One bizarre thing though... it was eerily close to a screenplay I sketched out last year. I mean, "gremlins meets funhouse and they turn big at the end" isn't exactly groundbreaking but still, I didn't expect it to already exist. Mine was about a clowngirl fwiw.
>>
trying to remember ff movie, non english pretty sure they are speaking spanish two. dudes going to abandoned house, there’s huge dude with axe walking around looking for em

>I mean, "gremlins meets funhouse and they turn big at the end" isn't exactly groundbreaking but still, I didn't expect it to already exist. Mine was about a clowngirl fwiw.
Now your screenplay is "ghoulies 2 but with clownpussy"
>>
>>218179883
It's true.
>>
Just finished. Love late era Bruno Mattei, he was making the same movies in the early 2000s that he did in the 70s. This one borrows a bit from Predator but isn't the full on ripoff something like Robowar or Zombies the Beginning is. Pretty low on anything interesting even though technically there're boobs and gore. It's a little too action oriented for my taste. The dubbing is spectacular, there's nothing like a Mattei dub. Not a very good cannibal movie, but a genuine one at least.
>>
>>218177830
Try and watch John and the Hole
>>
Just finished. Even worse than >>218178749 . I've got a strong tolerance for Dustin Ferguson because I live the kind of stuff he rips off, and I love Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout, but he didn't even try here. Feels like he shot it in two hours, no boobs, almost no blood, no jokes, it's just a pile of nothing.
>>
>>218177059
Nta but it's great fun. They're following the old anthology formula of a wrap around frame story, and the individual stories are also all strong (I'm biased because one of the stories involves creepy dolls)
Any obviousness in the fame story at the end is carried by the undertaker being creepy af. Really good 90s anthology of music too, if you've ever been high to Cypress Hill, the movie is made for you

That's why reiterations of the best stuff will usually be good. Like Smile. It's the same psychological horror we've seen since Dr. Caligari, but it's done well enough and has a interesting idea to seem fresh. What were the best horror movies of 2025? Usually I see a bunch of youtube lists or see a lot of chatter. But not last year. I usually pay for Shudder for a month and catch up on their exclusives.

All I could think of was Smile 2, Black Phone 2...Weapons?
None of those really appeal to me. But it was a good year for discovering older ones. The Deadly Spawn and Possession were absolutely top tier. Also Watched Night of the Demons for the first time and it was great.
So I'm not missing anything by not giving Shudder my money this time.

Primate wasn't perfect but it already scratched an itch that last year didn't. And Adam's Curse is on the horizon too.
>>
>>218192079
I didn't really like Smile 2, I can see why some would though. It just didnt do it for me.
I didn't watch Weapons because Barbarian was only good for the first half. It was good and suspenseful but I felt it got really cliche after the main girl got down into the basement.
Black Phone 2 I didn't watch because the first one felt really stretched out. The short story was good, in fact the whole collection it came from was great.

Maybe this is a (me) problem and should give Weapons and BP 2 a shot.

both 28 Years movies
Companion was good but very much a horror comedy.
Sinners is good if you care about the metaphor and the music.

Kek that's like mind reading my thoughts about Barbarian. It's a shame "gender flipped Castle Freak" was all they had up the sleeve. The discovery of the tunnel was great. Weapons is a better film, but still misses the mark in other ways.
Fwiw I quite liked BP2 but just because of the visuals. Feels like the culmination of Derricksons Super 8 aesthetic.

I hope it's decent. Hopefully the director can knock it off with the troon analogies and be normal for once.

Movie idea: Natural Decline

A woman placed in a care facility for early-onset dementia realizes a caregiver is killing residents. As her symptoms worsen and staff dismiss her as confused, she has to create proof that doesn’t rely on her memory before she becomes the next “natural decline.”

Just finished. Is it a horror movie? Probably not. A Tommy Wiseau guy and his gf are searching for a treasure in a millionaire's booby trapped basement, filled with Cube style trap rooms but they're really low budget, like spikes from the ceiling and filling up with water. This is BORING and has nothing interesting, no death scenes, no laughs. Just a eastern European dude wearing all denim.

Just finished. Absolutely not horror. Comedy about a cooking based noise band and their petty squabbling. A lot of things I like here: noise music, sex, fart anxiety, Gwendoline Christie, but there isn't much of a movie here.

Are there any cartel horror films?I feel like if you based it off the torture videos, it would be too gratuitous even for horror fans

>>218194915
Yeah, I got the idea. Because, after watching high tension, I was like, I don't think, women actually commit crimes that violent. So I was looking into what would be a realistic female slasher, and caregiver, serial killer is one of the common categories for women

Should probably watch at least 5, for reasons, maybe 6 (worst one imo), though the two leads from them aren't in 7. You can skip 4 if you want and not miss much, won't recognize a character that shows up in 6 if you do though.

lots of burning, a dead dog, and the finale having the demons turning into ash so the place looks like a wasteland after all that is cool
I think people are going to be less open to this because of the small amount of blood despite the brutality remains the same even with all the fire. Think 2013 but with a fire theme and you got it.

I don't understand what's supposed to be so great about the Evil Dead movies
>>
>>218209234
The first three have a great aesthetic, mythology, humor, interesting camerawork and effects, and a charismatic lead.
What I don't get is why anyone cares about Evil Dead after 3, when they stopped having any of that
