Picrel is another occult detective one that could be added though. Like the Jordan ones a TV pilot movie that didn't get picked up.

Start doing this
>>
> Well, I will say this. If you start your film with a ballet class being interrupted by a former student, who rushes in - topless, for no readily apparent reason - and sprays the class with fire from her Uzi: you have my attention.
>Unfortunately, this early goodwill is utterly wasted, frittered away in a number of ways over the next 90 minutes that would be spectacularly impressive, if that were the aim of the film-makers. >However, it appearstheir true intention was along the lines of, "Let's do a micro-budget version of Black Swan, but one based on our obsessive watching of SUSPIRIA, starring a cast of interchangeable Barbies rounded up from the strip-club nearest to the local community college." Actually, that
sounds rather more entertaining than this.
>>
And another. Very derivative. Could go under Other.
Speaking of, shouldn't Seven be under Criminal Macabre and Exorcist III under Occult Detective? The latter could easily be split into Occult Detectives and Occult Crime.

>The Exorcism
There's honestly a good movie in here somewhere, Russell Crowe was legitimately excellent, but once again bad editing and a disjointed narrative holds it back from being good. I'm also not sure David Hyde Pierce really works outside of comedic roles but I haven't seen him in much outside of Frasier admittedly. I also think some of the horror scenes felt a bit too tryhard honestly. It's difficult to explain but you'll know it when you see it. I don't think it's outright bad like everyone else says though just not good either so somewhere in the middle. It did have really good cinematography too though.
>The Ritual (2025)
Apparently this is based on a documented case of an exorcism ritual and the characters are based on real people and it's not the case that inspired The Exorcist but an even earlier one, but unfortunately this one is really just bad. Bad cinematography, bad acting particularly from Dan Stevens who's the main lead (though I think the possessed girl herself was mostly fine), bad writing, bad editing. The cinematography is honestly the worst offender here though because it has the soap opera effect where it looks like some cheap TV show or a found footage flick with the constantly shaky camera and it just does not at all fit with the aesthetics of the time period the movie's supposed to be set in which is the 1920s. It was surreal to see such a legendary actor like Al Pacino star in this like I'm sure he's been in a ton of shitty movies before but I've only seen him in all the good onesand Godfather 3. Not sure what compelled him to want to be in this but I kind of would like to see him in more before he croaks. I think he took the role seriously enough for the most part but he's definitely a very old man now and has the energy to match. It's a shame he didn't make more horror before and after The Devil's Advocate. If you're curious or just a big Pacino fan there are definitely far worse movies out there though.

both those films were slaughtered in reviews so I never found the energy to watch them. first positive thing I've heard about The Exorcism. it's funny that Crowe didn't tell the director he was also starring in The Pope's Exorcist.

Yes. I'm extremely tired of people overestimating a chimp's strength.
Yes they are stronger than the average person. Yes they can do a lot of damage if you let them. No they are not unstoppable monsters.
Like all non-human apes, they mostly just wildly flail, trying to scratch and tear and bite if they can. They cannot grapple like a human can. They cannot kick like a human can. They are much shorter than most people. Just deliver hard kicks to their abdomen and/or face. If near water, throw them in; they cannot swim.
>b-but it will rip your face off with one swipe!
No it won't. The de-facing happened one time to a retarded woman who thought cimps are friends. It was also a sustained attack, not one swipe.
Death to chimp simps.
>>
>>218221621
Although I generally agree, that's kind of more about chimps not being built mentally for brawling a human. What's interesting is the type of unique explosive energy they have because their bodies are made for actions like swinging and parkour shit.

Just finished. Okay horror comedy about some crooks in New Zealand on the run from a jailbreak who end up in the home of some suburban cannibals. Would've benefited from a bigger budget and a more creative team, I can see some of the shots having come off great if there was more talent behind the camera. Overly silly, kind of in the vein of the run of Tarantino ripoffs from the 90s. A missed opportunity but not a total waste of time.

You know what, I liked it. You need a damn notebook to follow along but after the initial clown scares it settles in for more of a slowburn ambient approach, I also liked the lead a lot.
I can see how reviewers hated it, it's makes no sense if you're not putting in effort with the lore. Also ends on a huge cliffhanger storywise, but the feeling of it felt decent.

chimps have the bodystr of 10 grown adult males.
this includes higher adrenaline and pain tolerance.
not even a professional killing machine soldier with 30 years experience of melee combat could do shit to a chimp you absolute retard.

All of these releases are insanely grim tiktok stuff. Not an ounce of dread in them. Thank god a flawed masterpiece like Red Rooms came out, we will have something to discuss until 2040something when another decent horror movie will fluke its way into reality.
>>218210357
It's interesting that Ghost Writer has the exact same cul-de-sac setup where protag is threatened by forces lying in wait, and it's much more horrific than Ninth Gate which is playful and fun so you don't really get scared.
>>

I just saw this last night. I expected Polanski to be a lot more complex and entertaining, but he's much like Epstein in the way that there's a great deal of mystique around him but he's just kind of a stupid dork. Movie was trite and too fast paced.
>>
>>218227430
there are numerous dread-inducing scenes in Ninth Gate.
off my head:
- dead man in the pond
- hanged man to look like hanged man the tarot card
- burning cripple lady
- scene at the quai
- balkan immolation
- creepy illustrations and final revelation
etc
i love it so much

Director's commentary on Ninth Gate is great because he keeps mentioning all the covert cgi elements they put in, like every scene has 5-6 fakes that I had no idea were such, like windows, pictures within pictures etc. Ninth Gate actually has a metric ton of cgi stuff. All small green screens and various composites, like Balkan skyscraper.
Polanski also dispels the theory that Depp wears goatee because he's Lucifer by saying he wanted him to have a moustache to look a bit older.

Better than 5 and 6 but still dog shit. The first 40 minutes had me pretty hyped and convinced I was going to watch the first great Scream movie in decades. The movies nosedives off a cliff when Chad and Mindy show up. The momentum is completely killed and we get this horribly long drawn out scene where Mindy does her usual cringe meta speech of you could be the killer, you're creepy, which makes you really obvious, but that's a bluff cause the killer is so obvious you wont suspect it, shut the fuck you annoying cunt.
>stuisn't back, the killers are just impersonating him with AI
>the killers arean asylum employee and sidey's neighbor, both of which have about sixty seconds of screentime
>the neighbor is le crazy because she had an abusive husband, no idea why the fuck the asylum employee decided to team up with her
>chad and mindyboth get attacked and survive as usual
Unironic Scream fans (of the newest movies) are the ultimate goycattle, they sign up knowing damn well they'll be underwhelmed by the worst killer reveals in whodunit history, every time the masks come off everyone collectively sighs and says "that's it?".

Radio Silence are some of the biggest hacks in the industry but they actually didn't direct Scream 7, Kevin Williamson is directing it. Although it's written by the same hack that wrote Scream 5 and 6, his talentless aura is all over this mess.

>I liked Ready or Not. Samara Weaving a cute
Samara is cute and that's the only thing the movie has. She's so coddled by horror fans. The movie sets you up with the most insufferable antagonists ever and we don't get to see them suffer. Whats the point in the comedy elements with no catharsis? You flip a cat and mouse game with no payoff. Most undeserved shots of Samara in a bridal dress covered in blood with a bandolier.

I like the original more, but that's a niche preference forcandanaidian boring of the 1970s architecture and clothes not the fetishes you sick freaksand the blatant shaving foam
Crimes of the Future and Shrouds are kind of more deadpan comedies/satires than body horror focused, and I think with the 70s vibes a lot of the surreal comedy parts are there, but it's hard to tell because leafland in the 70s looks like everything might be sincerely that boring
Bored rich people brings the jokes quotient up I think, along with CGI not making everything two litres of ketchup for body horror.
What makes me really happy about it though is Stewart being fucking weird after that greentext where someone proposed Cronenberg was the only one who would shoot a Twilight pregnancy movie right.

Exorcist 3 is exactly what you want. A detective trying to figure out the identity and motives of a serial killer, just happens to be supernatural and occult

Based, she still looks good imo.
Olin was easily the hottest and tallest actress in the film (5'11" compared to 5'10" Depp). Even Satan/Seigner is 5'8" which is above-average height for a woman.

I'll give it to Tubi, they sure know how to make a fucking exploitation movie. I've never watched one of their originals before, but I was surprised at the amount of times they took things there with scenes of attempted rape, abuse of a disabled person and incest in the same scene, and a woman masturbating off screen. Just a shame that it couldn't keep the momentum going after the first half, and the only great actor is the one that played the crazy bitch mom.
>>
>>218239488
I've never really paid attention to the platform until I found Ninth Gate after unsuccessfully finding seeders for the torrents I found. Tubi is actually pretty good at offering a nice selection of highly watchable content without it requiring a subscription fee to allow you to access them.

I think I got the idea that a few roving insaniacs had been sneaking into existing haunted houses and stalking them. An actual giantinsane clown possewas slightly less believable.

>This. I haven't liked a Scream movie since the original trilogy, I'm dumbfounded how Scream 5 and 6 seemingly received unanimous praise amongst normies but Scream 7 is getting mixed reactions. Scream 7 is objectively better than Scream 5 and 6 but still utter dog shit. I get normies are retarded and are MKUltra'd into thinking shit movies are good by paid rotten tomato scores and social media bots telling them a movie is "good" but their reaction is insane. I think normies mostly tell themselves a movie is "good" or "bad" just so they can feel part of some club, it's more like a social thing for them then a care for the artform. In the case of Scream 7 the waters are muddied because of the actresses of 5 and 6 getting shitcanned so normies are struggling to understand which social club they need to subscribe to.
>>>218221909
>And Scream 5 and 6 weren't boring and nonsensical?
>>
>>218237588
It's in between a comedy and horror/detective. Light watch IMHO. Overall I would be more appreciated if Hollywood keep shooting these types of movies, but everything now either "indie" or too serious or too silly.
It reminds me of Ruthless People 1986 but in the different genre

How would you fix the Scream franchise?
>>
>>218249344
by not making them anymore, it's done to death. First was a clever satire and a classic straightaway. Second was a good sequel. Third was fucking shit. Fourth was a welcome proper part 3, a nice movie. Fifth did what it could for a reboot. Six and seven were just shit.

File: masks.png (837 KB)

>>218249344
From a narrative perspective, not sure. But I've often said it would be fun to see some mask variety. Maybe multiple killers, they have different masks with their own methods. Or do ghostface vs ghostface which has only been touched upon. The original Scream 5 idea would have been cool where Jill gets away with it and then becomes a target of a new ghostface.

Jill should have been featured as a deepfake or even mentioned. She is arguably the killer that is closet to her (even more than than her brother). Considering that the movie is basically a redo of Scream 4 (but way worse) with its emphasis on family, its weird she wasn't featured in some way.
