Better acting but weaker character I'd say. Not that Sam was particulary strong but Tatum was just there to say "Im Sidney's daughter"
>>
Psycho Killer may be the worst theatrical horror movie I've seen in the last decade. Incompetently made in every way. Not even so dumb its fun.

While the script for the new one was a bit disappointing for Williamson, I liked the little dig at the Billy Loomis secret daughter twist. It was never a good idea.
The stuff between Sidney and her daughter was some of the stronger material here and a more logical way for the franchise to go

He didn't write it, he only directed (which is odd I guess) but I assume the script was already written before he got involved. Maybe he'll write/direct Scream 8
>>
The gore was surprisingly graphic, my theater of black teens at 11am were laughing their asses off at the final kill
>>
>>218250791
He's got a screenwriting credit but someone else got story credit. Probably rewrite an indie script.
>>
>>218250809
Considering Neve complained about the gore in 5/6 Im surprised this one was arguably gorier/more brutal

>>
>>218250791
He has a screenplay credit along with some other guy.
The story by credit mentioned Vanderbilt who was a writer on 5 and 6, presumably because the earlier script had to be heavily rewritten

Those killer reveals though. Woof what a dud. Until then it was the best Scream in a long time.
>>
>>218252348
It’s inconsistent and flawed but I still think I’d take it over 5 and 6 because it isn’t just remaking an earlier film in the franchise with shitty new leads. Little moments here and there echo earlier scenes as nods, but generally it did its own thing. Though its own thing had a couple of horribly cheesy moments and a very unsatisfying villain reveal
>>
>>218253942
It felt like a different ending was tacked on because the reveal and motivation was completely shit. Some great bits here and there leading up to it but disappointing conclusion. I wouldn’t have wanted a big stupid retcon but they were barely even proper characters, never mind characters with a decent motivation

I wash shit scream for she and she die like dog ;____;
>>
>>218250934
Everyone cringed when they played this before the movie
>>
>>218257287
The story starts with this washed up writer finding his wife cheating on him with some random schmuck in a model. Many years later, we see Depp's character hiding out in his cabin all day in the woods while he avoids signing the divorce papers. He's got a dog, he's a slob, he has writers block and his maid makes him want to blow his brains out with her kindness. Then after the maid leaves, some weird southern hick guy in a black hat, named John Shooter, visits him at his cabin insisting he stole his story and published a worse ending. The entire mystery revolves around him finding out who this southern hick is (played by John Turturro) and figuring out which writer actually has claim to the story. The story itself is about a guy who dreams of murdering his wife, something something it's called 'Secret window.' Very soon after he discovers his life is in danger when the man in the hat kills his aging blind dog by stabbing him with a screw driver.

The movie was actually not half bad, as this anon was saying here >>218257551

Now for the twist, which I assure you comes out of nowhere:

He's John Shooter. John Shooter was born the day he went to a garage sale with his wife and he spontaneously bought the black hat. He made up a stupid story for him and an even stupider accent. She divorced him over his terrible southern impression. Depp made himself black out so John could do all of his dirty work for him. But John Shooter tries to frame him at multiple parts in the film, resulting in him leaving his watch behind in a car that was driven into a shallow lake that had two dead bodies in it. The end needed to be rewritten, by him finally killing his wife and turning her corpse into crop fertilizer for his new forest corn field. He gets away with everything and there's no consequences. He eats corn as the camera pans out the secret window and shows off his bitchin' corpse garden. The end.
>>

yup
>>
>>218258512
Oh wait I've seen this, now I remember.

I never could understand why it was called the "secret window" in the first place though.
>>
>>218258770
That's just it, there's all these plot threads that go unanswered and just drift away at the end. It was a good intrigue mystery for like two thirds of the way but then suddenly there's this twisted moment that the main character has, and at least for me I was wondering "is this a joke? Is he trying to freak out John Shooter?" The moment his wife comes into the cabin at the end... you can tell they really really thought that would be spooky and cool, but it came across as entirely deadpan. I seriously want someone to go back and write a better ending for this thing. Why the fuck did the dog have to even die?!

There’s a flashback where the wife moves some furniture and finds a small window that they didn’t know was there, and refers to it as the secret window to the secret garden (the original story is called Secret Window, Secret Garden). She later ends up buried out there

fun fact, Misfits wrote their 90s comeback hit Scream in the hope that Wes Craven would use it in Scream 2. It didn't make it in, which I always think was a miss because there could have been a cool Ghostface vs. Crimson Ghost crossover video.
What happened instead though is that George A. Romero directed the video. He did this in part so they'd lend their music to his film Bruiser (which they also wrote a track for released on Cuts from the Crypt)

>>
>>218262725
>The only problem was the choice for the killers and motivations.
This is the problem of all the Scream sequels. First one worked, but for the all the next ones they had to come up with eloquent schemes and motivations and conspiracies for the killers, and it almost never fucking works. Thanksgiving fell for this same shit.

This is why Jason and Freddy and Michael and Leatherface works better. They just kill for the sake of killing, no need for some stupid prank or revenge.

It's from the original that anyone can die. Barrymore was on the cover and all the promo, and she dies straight off. Then it became about predictable deaths, which is why the Stab movies joke is they all open with Inception levels of famous people stabbing each other, but after one, the real world joke is of course this opening plot line character is dead, and in a way you should predict if you really were the Randy levels of horror movie well informed you think you are.

This yeah I thought it was missing alot of the fun feel the rest had well 4 being serious too but it also just felt different, but other problems are the trailer and poster being a bit misleading on who's house set on fire and the controversy about mellissa barrarra and Jenna Ortega and begging neve to come back. And still missing Dewey, then Gail just dissappear when she could've followed Sydney and the cops not hearing what was going on in syds house. Also they should've done more with McKenna grace since she's hot, fun, listed as a main member and was on a song for the movie. But I did like how Sydney is and the daughter and friends are good and fun and I thlughtbit was fun seeing some of the other killers even with Ai and Roman finally being mentioned but Jill should've too. And stu is always fun. The killers are not as big as before even in 6 but it again shows anyone can start it again by killing dressed as ghostface

Cool.

I saw Return to Silent Hill and it is definitely the top horror movie of 2026 so far. It was clear the movie was fan service to the games and gamers. Anyone who talks shit about it is a midwit who tries to larp as intelligent or critical. Honestly, movie was perfect. Total gamer death. Movie was pretty much the same as the games.

That is so accurate that it is scary.

My brother is a huge Scream fan. He has a whole Scream section in his man cave. He said 7 is the second best film of the series after the first one. I thought it was unashamed and unabashed nostalgia bait with kills that should not have cleared an R rating.

this is another speed racer incident with critics

>>218280120
this was pretty decent for a low budget film (absentia 2011)
the mystery / tension building parts were interesting but felt like they didnt know how to handle any dramatic moments

>kills that should not have cleared an R rating.
Scream 7 rivals 1 and 4 for goriest Scream movie, although 1 has more brutality, pretty hard to top Barrymore's death. 7 easily clears an R rating, Scream 5 and 6 are the ones that feel like PG-13 CW shows, both in story, production quality and bloodless kills.
>>
>>218269934
The first home media release for "Scars Of Dracula" in the United States was rated PG despite having a naked woman in the movie, "Critters 2" was rated PG-13 despite having uncensored tits, I guess they didn't care as much back then
>>
>>218283628
No
>>
>>218284181
4 is the goriest one, that doesn't make it good, but it is the one with the most blood, the fact that the movie's Ghostface starts cutting herself and throwing herself against windows and down the stairs near the end for a extended period of time also helps
>>
>>218284279
It's because they had to rate everything overnight basically. Video releases meant you had to rate things from decades before again, while also getting letters from people who got an R or X or whatever saying that social standards had really changed so it shouldn't be that high, along with letters from concerned pearl clutches about how everything should be higher because think of the 15 y/o children who find their parents R rated rental they will be lost to Satan
A lot of things have bizarre video v cinema ratings
