Would love to see tng-ds9-voy era, style, and content trek show about a freighter crew and the adventures they go on. So not star fleet.

>about a freighter crew and the adventures they go on. So not star fleet.
In today's era it would still feature a lesbian black queen and some sort of adorable Baby Yoda wunderkind maguffin that's the secret to changing everything. So the show would end up being called Butch Kasidy and the Sundance Kid.

do people dislike Encounter at Farpoint? season 1 blows in general but i always thought it was a good episode in its own right + a great pilot
>>
>>218266228
It's very rough, trying to figure out what it wants to be. Like everything with Riker and Troi.
>>
>>218266228
>>218266238
Agree with both. The pilot has creative and interesting premise, but overall the plot is underwhelming and the characters are undeveloped. E.g. Picard is much colder and more robotic that the future Picard-Speech-Picard
>>
>>218266228
It feels like two separate episodes mushed together (it actually was, the Q plot was added later)
>>
>>218266228
It was very interesting and surreal, but it is also trying really hard to distinguish itself from TOS.
>>
>>218266268
idk the whole scene with riker and the apples feels 100% TOS scene
>>
>>218266228
I mean, it's a little messy in some ways, but I never thought it was a bad premiere. I remember seeing it back in it's time and no hesitated to be back for episode 2 the next week.

realizing one of the unavoidable problems with trek is that there's a point of diminishing returns with fleshing out the different races.
the klingons are at their coolest like midway through TNG and start to seem kinda lame and gay midway through DS9. the borg get rapidly less compelling the more they show up. romulans and cardassians get nerfed. the only ones who're consistently interesting are the vulcans, because in spite of being the OG aliens of the franchise they barely got used until ENT.
one of the best things Voyager did was introduce the hirogen and then immediately toss them aside as soon as they peaked.

Whatever happened to all the augments? Khan and his crew got frozen, and there were the ones that Soong made in ENT, but there must have been hundreds of thousands of genetically augmented humans by the end of the Eugenics Wars. Surely the remaining world authorities couldn't have weeded ALL of them out of the population, and even if they did then what? Mass grave? I doubt they'd let that happen to themselves.

My dad was watching Strange New Worlds on cable tv and since I'd never seen it I decided to sit with him and give it a fair try (and to spend some time with my dad). It was an episode where Spock became human. If this was a discription of a TOS episode it would fill me with interest, but the way the characters acted and talked felt really weird. The funny bits felt weird and the dramatic part had me feeling bored and uninterested after a while. It saddens me to say that I don't really have much interest in watching more of it. Also sorry I don't have a Star Trek meme to post, I don't know it it's against the rules.

All streaming shows are written to be "visual Muzak". This isn't a term I made up to be cheeky. Netflix tells their writers not to make the dialogue too complex or viewers will tune out. They have data to back it up. Characters need to speak simply enough that the audience can follow while typing a message or folding laundry. So it all ends up sounding sterile and forgettable. That's by design.

I think Star Trek got caught up too much in "realism" and turned universal exploration into something mundane. Roddenberry understood the importance of existence beyond our perception of physical reality and at least Voyager did too but Star Trek really needs more interdimensional matters like astral projection and other mystical elements.

This was a private agreement in rehearsal between Robinson and Siddig (Robinson's idea) because they realized it would make their scenes more interesting then the writers picked up on it because it helped distinguish Garak from Dukat. Also ffs, a straight tailor? This is science fiction not fantasy.

The BPD personality ruins it. Genesis is cute despite Space Chola eyebrows and has an actual personality. My mom met Majel at a con during a slow point and congratulated her on how accurately she portrayed grieving in that ep where Lwaxana has to let go of a man obligated to kill himself at a certain age and Majel thanked Mom but replied "The shoot had gone over, it was 1:30 am and what you're seeing is my exhaustion and David's (Ogden Stiers) because we just want to go home."
You never know how many takes the scene you're looking at took beforehand and extras are paid trash as set decoration. One time on McHale's Navy, the only reason Gavin MacLeod was even in a scene was because someone had to obstruct the camera from seeing a building outside the backlot. He was pissy about that kind of thing.

>>
>>
>>218285436
I don't think the UFP is backed by its own monetary system, it is entirely barter-based. Planets and companies making direct trade deals. Maybe individual planets have their own personal currencies, or use gold-pressed latinum to barter with.
>>
>218285436
Why the fuck are you asking question that has been answered dozen of times in the source material
>>
>>218272596
Every time I come back to this I keep thinking AGAIG could have been a great character study if Brooks hadn't pushed for Nicholson as Melvin Udall and cast someone less manic (and someone not twice Helen Hunt's age). Yeah they took home the Oscars, but dramatic actresses who show nipples and leading men who play a cripple are shoe-ins with the Academy. Fun movie and Kinnear impersonating Nicholson was a treat but it's still a miscast.
>>
>>218285436
Yes but it's not used internally. UFP citizens can go to planets or stations that Non-UFP citizens frequent and engage in commerce there, but within UFP planets and amongst UFP citizens there is no money used.

Why would you barter when everything exists in abundance and most material needs can be acquired through the use of a replicator? People don't barter when going to Siskos restaurant they just walk in and eat their meals, it stays open because Grandpa Sisko likes cooking.

This is why I don't even mind the idea of a TOS remake with modern effects and narrative depth. Nobody is ever taking the OG away from you. Get a bunch of classically trained stage actors. An episodic format with the B or C plot hinting at a bigger story, and a budget to make it work. 12 episode seasons that air every year. But nobody in Hollywood is talented or well intentioned enough to make that happen.
>>
>>218285656
It's never been answered in the source material because the source material contradicts itself several times and even the writers have admitted that they really have no idea
