This is why I don't even mind the idea of a TOS remake with modern effects and narrative depth. Nobody is ever taking the OG away from you. Get a bunch of classically trained stage actors. An episodic format with the B or C plot hinting at a bigger story, and a budget to make it work. You can even flesh out the side characters like Sulu and Uhura without overshadowing the main three. It also needs12 episode seasons that air every year for relevance. But nobody in Hollywood is talented or well intentioned enough to make that happen.
>>
>Lets remake Citizen Kane, with modern effects and in color.
This is you, this is what you sound like.
>>
>>218286622

What are some misconceptions you had going into Star Trek due to pop cultural osmosis?

i know gene didnt want it but i love how everyone hates each other in the first season of ds9
>>
which trekisode is most like the movie the ninth gate?
>>
>>218286647
TOS would be weird with a modern veneer because it would be hard to accept a lot of the padding and dialogue in the scripts if they weren’t accompanied by the equally cheesy camp visuals
>>
>>218286734
>films shouldn't aspire to make great masterworks like Citizen Kane anymore because... uh... i'm retarded and i like slop!
great post
>>
>>218286741
Kirk is a womanizer and the borg are the primary antagonists of TNG. You made this post just so you could do the fat nerd ACHshully meme but unironically think you’re correct and smarter than everyone. Mostly because you crave human connection, which to be fair is the reason all of us are here.
>>
>>218286741
All the talking points about how Star Trek was always progressive and socialist made me think the franchise wouldn’t click with me. But I started with TNG and the characters won me over near instantly.
>>
>>218286832
The problem is modern progressiveness reached the end point they had since the enlightenment (which is the zeitgeist in Star Trek) and didn’t know what to do

I, Borg is about the crew's internal conflicts.
The Borg in Descent are the victims of Lore.
That just leaves Q Who and BOTB. It would be more accurate to call Q, the Romulans, House of Duras, or even Cardassians the "main" antagonist if you had to pick one.

Cardies don't do much in TNG. I'd say TNG has a lot of Klingon politics, or it at least it felt like it anyway. Some of the worst episodes of TNG. Made House of Quark so good when they messed around with the concept.

The Cardassians are only antagonists because of DS9. Hell one of their first episodes (with Alamo as some other Gul) has them clearly in the right and O’Brien being a bigot. The Ferengi are talked about more in a more adversarial way than them in TNG

There was a wave of shows and movies in the early 2000s where the white and black heroes beat up and killed brown people. Ever wonder why the show 24 has almost no cultural nostalgia? The whole thing was Jack Bauer going around pistol whipping Muslims. Now New York has a Muslim mayor.

Why do I have to choose between this and women counting down until their 18th birthday so they can start an OnlyFans?
>>
>>218289470
Yeah it’s because Bush’s approval rating was like 90% after. People were legitimately considering Japanese style WWII internment for towelheads. So the defense of them became a touchstone of the furthest left opposition, as pointing to the poor wittle Aladdins and generating sympathy was a way to criticize their political opponents without seeming too unpatriotic

I'm serious. There are nerds and there are nerds.

Some people are nerds because they're intelligent and have forceful personalities that lead them to like something other than mumble rap and whatever slop is popular when they're growing up. These are the "leaders" of the nerd cliques.
Meanwhile, the average Lower Decks fan is the type of nerd that is just a nerd because they don't like to shower and they can't get along with anyone socially. They've been outcast by every group because they're autistic and unpleasant. These are the types of nerds that are at the bottom of the nerd pecking order. The leftovers, the redditors.

I understand wanting to create relatable characters who speak like young people. But that's how you date a show horribly. Chekov never said 'groovy' or 'far out' to appeal to kids in the late 60's. Wesley and Jake also avoided contemporary slang. And the dialogue is one of the best aged things about 20th century Trek.

I don't even hate new Trek. I just don't care and I am tired of things being made by a boardroom instead of one person with an idea and a concise vision. People want something to pad out a streaming service and appeal to X demographic nobody has an actual story they want to tell.

>Seriously, what's up with civilian clothing in Star Trek? Too much cross pollination with alien cultures? Everyone wears weird wrap around shirts with v-necks. Do t-shirts and denim not exist?

The Producers wanted clothing that characters could still easily wear, but look slightly different enough that it didn't look like normal human clothes that anyone could buy.

Even when they find out they're fake doubles and destined to melt away, Janeway STILL insists on soldiering on to Earth at all costs, and the crew still goes along with it. I would've mutinied at that point.

MACOS are space marines, like others mention. They're on the NX-01 because the crew of the Enterprise have basically no combat training and, yes, they were deployed because of the Xindi War. Archer asked for them because he had a rare moment of lucidity from his CTE.

Hating a man for something that was out of their control seems most illogical. Future niggers are just like our niggers?
>>
>>218297866
It's not illogical at all, the insanity defense is still employed in the justice system to this day.
If your wife's killer was determined to be mental impaired would you hate your wife's killer any less?
>>
>>218297925
Picard wasn't insane, he was taken over as a Borg, which means he basically became a robot, he didn't just have a bad day.

Maybe i'm just a Star Trek newb but i think saying "oh those Borg, they're just crazy that's all" is pretty fucking far off in describing them.

It's natural to hate someone who killed your wife. Humans aren't so robotic that we can easily separate the fact that the murderer was mind controlled. Every time you'd look at the man you'd look at the face of your wife's killer.

Except your wife didn't die in your dream, she died in real life and the (mind controlled) person that killed her faced no real consequences for it. Every time you'd look at the person who killed your wife afterwards you'd see the murderer who got away relatively scot free.
>>
>>218298521
The Borg didn’t get away scot free. Every time I’d look at Picard I’d think of how the Borg hurt us both.

That's an admirable position to have, but I don't think most people could have it in practice. You'd be full of what ifs and blame him. It's worth remembering that the people mourning their dead loved ones most likely also wouldn't get the full picture of what happened.

We aren't Vulcans, or androids. We're human, our emotions is what always set us apart from various other sci-fi races.
>>
>>218298699
A lot of psychologists think aphantasia is just humans not being able to verbally communicate what it means to visualize or imagine something to one another
>>
>>218298743
Star trek humans are not like current year humans, that's the whole point. Gene believed we would no longer be victims of fear, anger and hatred, and dedicate our lives to bettering ourselves, gay orgies on Risa, mocking the Irish and hologooning.
>>
>>218298743
>we're able to do space stuffs and warp 11 but can't control our emotions like sub-Saharan Africans

>>
>>218289285
>Hijab woman in a post religion society
This is the worse one. It's so thoughtless.
>>
>>218298773
Star Trek humans have developed to a point where the specific struggles we have today don't (or shouldn't) exist but that doesn't mean that negative emotions don't exist. The good and the bad are a package deal but it's through bettering ourselves that we can focus on the positive after working through the negative emotions.
>>218298825
Star Trek was never about humans becoming Vulcans obsessed with logic.
>>
Does Klingon milk taste funky?

>>218298878
>if you don't think irrationally then you are obsessed with logic
Or just obey logic instead of emotions, pretty simple, i don't know how to better explain it to your monkey brain other than it being like a speed limit for safety of yourself and others. Sisko acting a fool because he can't control his sub-Saharan African genetics should immediately invalidate him being in any command position.
