More spelunky/noita with a dash of zomboid's medical system.
You go down into a hole and do your best not to die, while the game does it's best to kill you.
Surprisingly fun for something so miserable.

I feel like all the expies should have little micro explosives implanted in the base of their skulls. You know. So they don't have to suffer. But also so that all head trauma, no matter how minor or catastrophic, always has a 0.1% chance to make your brain instantly explode.

The github release for Casualties XL doesn't include source code, and one of the devs of the mod said that the game's dev is fine with the mod's existence, so that's probably not the issue here. Unless he changed his mind or something.

If you feel the need to max out crafting every run, then the start can be slow and meticulous, but you never get to the point where you're invincible.
Even if you're massively overprepared you'll still die if you make mistakes.

I did the sun quest. Hence my grudge against Noita.
Its a really cool concept for a game. And the main objective is fun enough, just going down the cave.
Going for anything else but rhe basic bitch ending is a fucking chore and almost becomes a half time job.
Sometimes I wonder if Noita would've been better as a regular hand crafted world, and the cave as a roguelite sidemode.
Its not like the terrain rng varies that much anyway, its just the spells

I died stupidly quickly too, at first. I've made it to layer 5 now.
These tips may sound insultingly obvious but they really are the best. Nowadays when I get hurt it's almost always because I neglected to follow these two tips:
1. Perhaps the most important thing is always paying attention to your surroundings and looking for traps so you can avoid bumbling into them.
2. Second most important thing is not jumping down into the darkness where you can't see anything. Or avoiding all risky jumps in general. You will avoid many preventable injuries by doing this.
3. If you do get injured, always disinfect the wounds. Glowfruits can be directly applied to wounds as an emergency disinfectant source.

Unfortunately all the better bags need to be found or traded for.
The plastic bags, or trash bags are comparable to the foliage bag, but don't fall apart nearly as quickly.
The purple school bag looking thing is one of the best options if you don't feel like turning it into a duffel bag for your back.
Grav bags are risky, but if you remember to take the batteries out before they explode they're best in slot.
Also you should rush making a material pouch as soon as you can justify it. Just stick all your small crafting materials in there and you'll be able to carry so much more.

CU would need some more beauty in it, preferably more open areas and a wider scope. I would genuinely like it adopting more from Made in Abyss, particularly in regards to the survivors you run into the deeper you go.
I wish layers were generally much larger and the access points to deep layers were more hidden and in more specific spots than just generally going down.

The problem I have is that the game flips from impossibly hard to extremely easy in basically an instant once you figure out how the crafting system works. You can get fully geared up by the end of the second layer if you take your time and craft everything you need, which makes no sense because there is no way your rat-dog should be able to cobble together a flashlight from a random circuit board, a pile of metal scraps, hunks of plastic, and some plant glue. But once you're kitted out with a backpack and some other containers with a titanium machete and multitool, a flashlight, a laser drill, and some spare batteries you can turn every layer into a cake walk.

>>738621323
crafting is not the answer, you can get extremely unlucky and not find any proper material but still go through all the layers
it is absolutely not necessary and i have learned to play well before it was even added
no amount of gear stops you from landing on a landmine or getting headshot by a turret, navigation is what actually drives the run

Honestly yeah, kinda. Blind drops in an area with land mines are very dangerous. Check bushes for mines before you get close to them or, better yet, don't drop into areas you can't see the bottom of without at least dropping something down there to trigger any would-be mines first.

The armour is actually very good. You take significantly less damage with a helmet and limb wraps
>>
>>738621825
armor just gives you more leverage post-injury, it doesn't actually prevent it
and every injury can be fatal and permanently crippling if you're unlucky, so the best course of action is to not get hit in the first place, and it is possible
i am not saying that it's bad, i mean that you should not rely on gear as your main means of survival

>you can get extremely unlucky and not find any proper material but still go through all the layers
If you don't find at least a few plants, a copper deposit, a few traps, and some plastic by the end of layer 2 then you are genuinely accursed by god and should make it your new goal to die as painlessly as possible.
>no amount of gear stops you from landing on a landmine or getting headshot by a turret
Partially true but unless you go full comedy mode and get turreted into a landmine or vice versa that's still totally recoverable if you have the right medical supplies. With a helmet on a turret headshot usually only does ~20 brain damage which is bad but not a run ender if you have braingrow and some time to wait things out.
But navigation is extremely important, yeah. Gear can pay for a whole lot of mistakes on its own though.

>>738621958
Kind of I guess, but it feels extremely easy to abuse in a sense. I honestly kind of preferred the older itch demos before the whole updated crafting system was added because back then it wasn't a virtual guarantee that you'd find what you need to save yourself. Stuff like LRDs and backpacks felt legitimately rare and powerful, now you can just make an LRD out of trash and keep a milk carton full of serum on the side to refill it whenever you want.
I guess I'd just prefer for some of the top tier items to go back to being world drops only. Crafting makes sense for hacking a crude cleaver or a makeshift digging tool together, it doesn't make sense when you're refining titanium with plant juice and making tools you can use to kill god.

In addition to what other people have said, you can use purple herbs from the later levels to reduce internal bleeding somewhat.

The wiki has all the effects listed if you want to check, but I'll share some here.
STR influences melee damage and how hard you can throw things.
RES is pain tolerance as well as stamina regen.
Both are involved in the carry weight formula, but you need to build both to see any benefit.
Apparently if you get RES to level 20 you just turn into the terminator and won't go into shock or pass out from pain anymore. I don't think that will happen in most normal runs though.

When ever will hiroshimoot fix this?
Anyway, CC expie got off way too easyafter pushing the MC on the verge of bankrupcy and nearly crashing the ship just for the lulz, but there's really no suitable punishment here.
Force him to read space OSHA volumes 1 through 999? He'll love it because autism or something, and will annoy you for months pointing out every single thing you're doing wrong.
Force him to do some kind of manual labor? He'll gleefully jump at the opportunity to make himself useful.

Just finished my run. Got a helmet and everything but made like 5 mistakes in a row and it got me killed on layer 2. Fell too far into a bear trap that broke my hand, rolled into barbed wire, jumped on a spike trap hidden behind a glow plant, soon ragdolled onto ANOTHER barbed wire fence, and finally died probably from hemothorax. I managed to pull 5 rolls of dressing out of my ass but the internal bleeding still got me.
Lesson of the day: don't be a retard and open your eyes
>>
>>
>>
Just did my first run in this game. i've been in a couple threads so i knew to craft foliage bags right away. got lucky with some bandages that kept me well for a little while. met a survivor whom I bought a liquid pouch off of. his pod was apparently dripping with water so no wonder my sleep quality was so poor in there. hit some wood to craft a digging tool, but I lost it when I had to ragdoll to get out of a tight spot and fell + geyser'd for a while. was pretty beat up by that point (infected limb but nothing to treat it) but I went a little longer until I found an empty escape pod to chill in until I succumbed to infection. I found a few crates along the way, but couldn't figure out how to pick them without hurting my paw
It was a constant battle with thirst because i never got around to making a campfire. I found a toolbox which would have been nice for storage if I wasn't dying. I forgot to check my depth before it was all over, but that was about 45min of steady descent
How did I do? Also I played with 20% traps because it was my first time. I want to get another run in already but tonight is a school nightbark
>>
>>738635226
>It was a constant battle with thirst because i never got around to making a campfire.
Drinking groundwater isn't all that bad. Clean water is better but groundwater is better than thirst. It'll just make you just a little sick but that goes away pretty fast. Also glowfruits can be directly applied to the body as a makeshift antiseptic, and if you splash in water when dirty it'll clean you off and improve your immunity (which reduces infection). You can ragdoll with X which will help when bathing.
>>
>>738635226
You did better than a lot of people on their first try.
Next time you're nursing an infection in a drop pod you should hit the shower button to disinfect your whole body. It won't save you if you're already deep in sepsis, but it will otherwise help you recover.

You click on the semi circle. There is a radial section of it that will open the lock. The further the lock turns before jamming, the closer you are to that section. If you hold for too long while jammed you will hurt your claw.
>>
File: Untitled.png (6.2 KB)
>>738635226
>i've been in a couple threads so i knew to-
Pussy. Real scientists go in completely blind and enter their first downward spiral 5 minutes in.
Really though, not particularly bad for a first try, plus I'm fairly sure the tutorial also tell you to prioritize foliage bags already anyway.
And like >>738635461 said: Don't be afraid of drinking ground water.
It's the main intended source of hydration. A couple versions back you couldn't even craft clean water at all.
>>738636026
Choose a random spot (A), watch the lock turn, and release the split second you realize the lock's jiggling and stopped turning. Make sure you note how far it managed to turn.
Try again on a nearby spot (B). Note the direction towards which progress increases (A -> B) and choose a spot a bit further alongside that arc. If this new spot turns out higher than B, that's your now B. If it turns out lower (C) you now know your search area (Yellow), between B and C. You can guesstimate where the right spot is depending on how far along B was and how much worse C is.
Keep tightening your search area until your done.
Also, practice on a pod crate first if possible, maybe a medical crate.

last I tried writing something it took me the better part of a day to write like 5 greentext paragraphs, not even close to what I'd consider a full chapter. and that was with help of a burst of inspiration lodging a clear idea into my mind
obviously my inexperience plays a huge part, but I look at how much CK has already written up roughly a week in (let alone CC) and I can't even imagine doing that, not when all I'm sitting on is flashes and ideas for scenes, barely no key points figured out, let alone dealing with the in-betweens
speaking of I just looked at CK and of course there's new stuff to read since the MC got a bad case of acne. I swear it's approaching a near-daily update rate, even if the updates are bite-sized.
I've some newfound respect for writefags now
>>
>>
>>738644193
>a bad case of acne
putting it mildly lol
but yeah, writefagging is a whole different thing. I've done stuff for other generals and these things can take from days to weeks to years. it's based on the scope of your ambition, but also, real life just always seems to come your way to fuck things up. I guess I'm biased in saying that because I hate how much of a social life I must maintain compared to your average anon, but stuff like just a mild cold can fuck you up. you'd think when you have nothing to do but sit by your PC and sip tea all day is when you get to be creative, but when you just can't get your thoughts aligned and you know whatever you type up will be shit even multiple editing passes can't fix... you just don't even want to bother

Ah, my idealist friend. Please, do consider that proposal for a moment, what it truly entails. The experiments we create contains trace amounts of human flesh, with their brains also being quite similar to humans. These can cause sickness when consumed by humans, as I'm sure you're aware. Not only that, but their muscles are not similar to purpose-bred farm animals, which feed themselves primarily on grains and don't exercise. Experiments exercise and eat a variety of foods, which would make their meat and muscles "gamey" and difficult to market.
Surely you understand this proposal isn't one worth pursuing, don't you? I won't entertain such folly ideas further.
And, of course. We have... better uses for them.

bruh canon expies are NOT uncanny and creepy, that's literally your headcanon
in every in-game artwork they are cute, at worst the art is mid because the dev has mid art but that doesn't means they themselves are ugly in any way, they are canonically cute in-universe going by plushie sales too
going by the health panel sawians are naturally thick bois too so that model is only mildly exaggerated and cuteified
also mal0 is literally a fursuit lol, a creepy one but a fursuit nonetheless, and the complete lack of canon lower-body images and that mal0s are slightly different from each other lets you do whatever you want, although the bimbofying does get more ridiculous in mal0's case

I like survival games with a slow rhythm like Darkwood where periodically a more dangerous interval rolls around and you're expected to (but don't necessarily have to if you've got balls of steel) find somewhere to hole up until it passes, is there anything similar currently?
I think it's the feeling of relative safety when there's a shitstorm going on outside your own little bubble of light and warmth that tickles my caveman brain.
>>
>>
>>738684194
this game is fairly static and safe areas are generally safe, while dangerous open spaces are not
you usually look for a small crevice to sleep and recover and then continue on
there really isn't anything like darkwood, except maybe cataclysm's portal storms
>>
>>738684194
if you sleep and something approaches you, your character jolts up awake and alerts you to it. Finding safe spots to sleep isn't very difficult but you want good quality spots since that helps their mood. The best places to sleep are survival pods but they become rarer and more difficult to access as you go further

LOLwut? Did the guy from Greater USA had some kind of "'unfortunate accident'" in order for this clown to replace him?
My dad once said he's been on the run from some Interpol offshoot called AMS for his whole career, but I don't believie in anything that old git tells me ever since he said that my mom used to be a man before they got married.

Holy moly. No wonder the Corporation can throw so many of these fuckers to their deaths in the Grey Planet. They inherited the animal parts of their animal genes and birth whole litters of fresh new volunteers for science experiments and testing.
I choose to believe they also inherited the human genes granting monthly fertility cycles, once again maximizing breeding and reproductive potential.
